Chase Keaton

Chase smirked at Mackenzie's question and nodded thanks at the congratulations from the two, "Ashley-Mae miss an engagement ring? Perish the thought." He shook his head, "No, she spotted it before I even had the chance to bring it up." The blonde woman wasn't exactly one to let something like that go unnoticed for long. Chase shrugged sheepishly at the next question, "Emile did, the night before I left for Arizona." He took in a deep breath with a smile whilst remembering back to it, "I uh, wasn't expecting it. But I guess you don't expect most of the best things in life when they happen huh?" While Chase knew it was inevitable to be more or less the center of attention with the engagement talk he didn't completely enjoy it, though without much else to bring up topic-wise he simply gave into it.

Charlie, the Silk MagicianSix of Swords

Charlie's life throughout the Midwest has been certainly a fun journey! Undesirable and miserable to many, yes, but not to him! Walking through what appears to be million of miles under a shining sun, taking seats on buses that smell like moving garbage disposals, sleeping on tucked away corners of society, all for nothing but a loose threads of rumors and vague retellings of events, that's been his current life, and Charlie would never choose otherwise, he even thinks it's nice! The constant moving and discomfort, sheer uncertainty of the future, it keeps his heart beating and his thoughts are rapid fire in processing, it's rather insane how Charlie can feel so at home in something so peculiar.

It's not like he's forced to go through this, as a matter of fact, Charlie can go and find himself a respectable place anytime he'd like, not just with his powers, he still has a fair amount of funds still saved up, he doesn't have to experience this hard way of living... But no, Charlie keeps on choosing the difficult side, just because it's more interesting or unique to him, and while it hasn't been easy, he is keeping himself fairly undercover, at least for now... The whereabouts of this strange catastrophe brought about has led him here, as well as the simple rolling of dice, to the land of the Phoenix. Charlie has first-hand proof that someone can die while they're still alive, and they're right in front of us, thousands of undead, living for a change of heart, there's a consensus that spells used to be a way to refer to words of law, judgment made true by the simple uttering of a phrase, perhaps then, that this is a place of rebirth, of the blooming feathers from the ashen remains.

Oh! Seems like Charlie's tangents have erased every memory of his current path and he happened to arrive at his destination! How unfortunate, let's recap a bit! So, he got to this town, and then he rolled some dice after a moment of channeling and... Luck led him to this pretty rundown inn! ...'Mountaineer Inn'... Well, it's mean to call it rundown, after all, it is Charlie's nicest hotel in a while! So! He made it with his tools in tow, huzzah!

Now, what does he do?
Walk through the front door and ask for a room seems to be the obvious choice, so let's not do that! Charlie isn't one for obvious choices, so let's try something out of the box!
Hmmm... Loitering around can be an option! It can tell you many things about where you're at, it tells you the type of people going in and managing the place, it tells you how things go around if you're attentive, it tells you what's the general feeling around here.
It's funny how just standing around can tell you about a place depending on who you are, but there's no time to waste! Charlie gets himself on the shade, and sits down, watching business go by, silently observing as he gathered what's up with this hotel.

Morgan smiled politely as their newest tenant declined extras for his room, despite her knowing, or at least assuming, he could use them. She finalized his payment, handing over his receipt. “Alright, well dinner is in an hour!” She waited for him to exit the office before settling back down behind her desk and filled in the books for the new tenants.

Within a few minutes she was done, packing up the office to close for the afternoon and leaving the after hours number on the door. She headed back to the door to the main office. She flipped the Open sign to Closed and stepped out after locking it behind her. She was about to step off the curb and head back to her room until family dinner when someone she had not seen caught her eye.

A man, someone she didn’t recognize, seated calmly beneath the shade of a tree. She wondered for a moment if they’d arrived with the tenant she’d just checked in, but then they had mentioned they were alone.

Before she could investigate further she was distracted by Brody stalking across the parking lot from their block of motel rooms with a scowl on his face. “Oh , what now?” She sighed, tilting her head and crossing her arms.

Brody huffed and wrinkled his nose as Morgan and her sighing. “I’m hungry.” He mumbled, nodding towards the restaurant. “Think she’ll give us an early plate?”

Morgan smirked but shrugged. “Worst case scenario she tries to kill you.” She didn’t wait for Brody to answer, turning to tug open the restaurant doors and wander inside.

Mackenzie smirked and nodded hearing that Ash was fully aware of Chase’s pending nuptials. There were few things in life that Mac feared but Ash’s party planning and attachment to bringing normal social events to the hunters' lives as often as possible. At first, when it had been only her and Ash, these social parties and engagements had annoyed Mac more than thrilled but Ash grew on her, like she did with everyone around her, and filled the room with light.

She was not surprised to hear that Emile had proposed, not Chase. He was a legacy hunter and like any other he was very aware of his expiration date, even if he was a wolf. Their lifestyle did not play into longevity and that meant having to cut out and cut things short. She was glad to know that Chase had accepted the proposal (otherwise he wouldn’t be wearing the ring, right?) He was smart enough to have learned there was more to life than hunting and death.

“So now we just need to get Eli on board.”

Elijah 4.jpg

Elijah had been happy to welcome Ashley-May back (as if she had been gone for days), wrapping her up in a warm embrace as she entered the room. He wasted no time in exposing the woman to one of her own tactics: trading kisses and affection for the "scoop" on Chase. It hadn't taken long for the woman to crack and give up her secrets -- if indeed any pushing had been necessary in the first place.

Chase and Emile had gotten engaged. He had instinctively searched Ashley-May's eyes at the news, trying to listen to her tone for any sign of inner disappointment or regret. Elijah was well aware that Ashley-May was frustrated with way in which their whirlwind romance had slowed down with the destruction of Vitae. She had had accepted -- albeit reluctantly -- the reasoning for his refusal to propose to her until their fledgling family had a home: a real, stable home with a foundation to build upon. Not some roadside inn, despite what they had accomplished here. However, even with her acceptance of a lack of a engagement ring for the time being, she seemed less patient about his stance on refusing to grow their family... but his answer remained the same. Elijah thanked his lucky stars for the support system Liam and Skye had, but he still hated that they had to spend their formative years in this kind of environment. He couldn't imagine bringing more children into the picture.

Almost immediately, he felt guilty for letting his thoughts drift to he and his girlfriend's ongoing "drama" when he should be happy for his friend's engagement. Deciding to redeem himself in the best way he could, Eli gave Ash a parting kiss before taking his leave. Stepping out of their room and onto the sidewalk, he glanced across the parking lot to see Morgan and Brody locked in conversation near the restaurant door (he could only imagine what about). Heading down the walkway and toward the kitchen, he threw the door open unceremoniously just in time to hear Mackenzie's voice, "So now we just need to get Eli on board."

The hunter crossed the threshold into the kitchen with a flourish. "Oh, don't you worry your pretty little head about Eli, he's been made well-aware," he said, grinning as he hoisted himself up onto a counter -- knowing full well that Mackenzie hated when he did so. He reached over to grab one of the bottles of booze that Mac and Addy had been partaking in, tipping it back before turning toward Chase. "In fact, I hear that his services for a stag do are also available," Eli remarked with an exaggerated wink.

rsz_adelaide_6.jpg
"Oh, god kill me now," Addy muttered under her breath at the Brit's offer. She turned toward Chase. "He means a 'bachelor party'," she explained.

Eli perked up, lowering the bottle of alcohol from his lips and nodding excitedly as he pointed to her. "Too right!" He paused, as if remembering something. "Oh, and uhm... congratulations," he added with a sheepish smile at Chase.

And lo and behold! Charlie's observation brings fruit as he tries his best to seem as unassuming and oblivious as possible, his rampant curiosity and mischievous excitement contained to the excessive caressing of his fingers. A woman, she looks a little bit stern but nice-ish, enters from stage left as she closes the doors behind her, the path of becoming a tenant shrouding in shadows for the day with the telltale sign of a closed business, no harm done for Charlie though, he had already chosen a different way in... Oh, she's looking at me, isn't she? Time to brace ourselves fo- A man approached her! Who would've thought? How utterly convenient for someone who wants to stick on the down low! This guy looks... a little lacking on the brain but lots of brawl, a lot of fun hijinks are a possibility but so are broken bones.

Well, it's a little hard to eavesdrop from here, but seems that they're trying to get some food and are heading into the restaurant, so what do we do here? Charlie has taken the habit to assume that pretty much everyone and everything he meets has something up, dirty things tend to attract dirty insects, so one could say that Charlie would naturally be attracted by the unnatural, therefore, it's probably best to assume that everyone is like him, it did lead to some really awkward situations and maybe some variations of the word "mentally ill" being hurled at him alongside a plethora of solid objects, but hey! Eventually he's going to be right! If you mindlessly throw things, one's gotta hit the mark! So, Charlie has realized he needs to take a risk and hope they don't have any knowledge about people like him.

So what's the best way to test this?
...Oh!
Charlie couldn't help but smirk as he noticed how easy it would be, just cast a spell! If they freak out, they don't know, if they head straight for him with murder on their eyes, they know! His eyes focused on this duo, one of his hands making a strange sort of sign pointing to them as the other is placed near his mouth, whispers of a peculiar language as Charlie visualized a thread unfurling and changing itself, conjuring up a trick.

Nothing more but a whistle sounded throughout the entrance area.
But that's not what his targets would sense, of course. The woman would hear a loud burp from man, as he would smell a nasty scent emanating from her.
Pure manipulation of the senses, a foundation of illusionary technique, simple but versatile, a little bit more challenging to do with multiple, but easy enough to do!
And, thus, the prank is done! Let's see the reactions!

After his payment finalized, Kyle decided to take his shower first before laundry. As much as he loved pennywise, it wasn't exactly his favorite shirt, but laundry would eat up the mere hour he had before there was food served, and he wanted, no needed a shower asap. As he exited the office, he pulled his phone out of his pocket, shoving the receipt down in it's place. He dialed a number only for it to be picked up and hung up on him. "Seriously, Grey? How many times do I have to apologize before you'll answer?"

With a huff, he shoved it back in his pocket and turned to grab his shower bag from the back of his truck. He caught a glimpse of two men and the girl he had just booked the room with. He raised an eyebrow at the colourful way of dressing one of the guys had. Then again, he was one to talk with his blue hair and the literal clown on his tee.

He snatched his bag from the back seat and headed towards his room for a much anticipated, and probably too hot to be healthy, shower.

Chase Keaton

Chase smiled as Elijah stepped into the little gathering going on in the kitchen, though he was both surprised and not surprised to hear that Ash hadn't been able to keep the information to herself. Though at the mention of a stag Chase gave a puzzled look and started looking to the others for any information, "Was that a Werewolf joke that went right over my head?" It felt necessary to ask because he absolutely hated not catching onto a joke. Thankfully Adelaide was quick to translate, Chase giving the aaahhh kind of nod and sound of understanding before catching onto what Eli just signed himself up to do and gave the man a dubious look. "You and Ash are more alike right now than I ever thought possible." He gave a light amused chuckle, reaching up to scratch at his beard. Admittedly he had mixed feelings about a bachelor party, since he hadn't even considered it until this very moment admittedly. "I dunno, I feel like if you were in charge of that I'd wake up naked in a silver cage in Mexico the next day."

Mackenzie rolled her eyes and gaged at Elijah as he made the suggestion that he, of all people, take charge of the wolves bachelor party. She shook her head, lifting the bottle of rose back up to her lips, tiling it back so she could drink from it deeply in an attempt to wash away the sour taste from her mouth. It didn't work, Eli was still very much here and his terrible idea still firmly planted in her skull.

"There is no way you're in the party planning committee." she teased, a nickname she'd given to Ash after she'd planned her wedding in less than twenty-four hours. Despite them being nomadic over the past year, Ash still managed to plan and surprise each individual with a birthday party, even if it was at 2 am and two of them were coming back from a hunt bloodied and sore.

"Secondly, if you think for a second that Ash isn't coming in here with a binder of ideas for a bachelor party I'll let you plan it - I won't intercede AND I'll watch the kids that night. Alone time with Ash t'boot!"

Morgan frowned hearing a faint long whistle as Brody opened the door to the restaurant and held it open for her to step inside. It was an odd noise, totally out of place and odder still - she couldn't figure out where it had come from. It had sounded, at first, like someone was whistling from inside the restaurant but as she passed the threshold it quickly moved to sound as though it was coming from outside. She turned to glance behind her, once more the only thing out of place was the man sitting in the shade of the tree.

She paused, parting her lips to speak to Brody when he belched. It threw her off - not because she was so dainty she'd never heard someone burp before, but because it came from Brody. Of all the people she knew he was possibly the most polite, quiet and reserved … most of the time, but certainly in public. "What on earth is-"

Brody wasn't certain what was happening around them but he could tell by Morgan's stance and sudden turn around something was off and deeply upsetting her. He followed her gaze out to the man beneath the tree and wondered if he was the one to cause the noise. What sort of person were they dealing with now? However long before he could bring himself to ask any of these questions the most powerful, and nasty, stench wafted up from Morgan.

He'd been assaulted by horrid scents for most of his life - that was the bane of being a werewolf but this was beyond recognition and beyond what he could ignore. He gagged, quickly releasing the door to turn and sprint from the entry way back to the lot where he stopped. Leaning over the edge of the sidewalk, he gagged once more - his senses burning with ... he couldn't even begin to describe it. Morgan followed and made his gag a second time, this time he was unable to keep himself from dry heaving.

Morgan was shocked watching Brody run from her, moreso when she approached to help he shoved her away, gurgling that she needed to step back. This was enough - whatever was happening was intentional and she was about to find out why. Dropping her ledger inside the door to the restaurant she turned and marched down the sidewalk towards the resting stranger. "Hey!" She called out to him, crossing the lot to approach him. "What are you doing here?"

Charlie, for once in his impulsive and careless life, took full control of himself and his attention was sharped straight to the two of his vict- Ooh, some ants! Aww, look at that strong fella getting some food for his family, carrying a big ol' piece of cereja!... He thinks it's one, at least! Man, Charlie could go for some cherries right now, they're really tasty! You know, that reminds him, cherries came from the name of a place in Greece or something, does that mean that they're consuming what is supposed to be a location? After all, magic was once just naming things or 'casting the law' so to speak!... Huh, Charlie feels like he's forgetting something...

...Oh!
Right!
Charlie was doing a prank and needed to see the react- Now, why are they both looking at him? Was that too obvious? Man, he really needs to get a notion of how he says things, he tends to speak a little too loudly without realizing it, Charlie really needs to get a sense of what he's being like sometimes. Well! We have an answer at least! They're definitely knowing of magic, which ring-ding-ding, means they know of witches! His experiment worked! Charlie really is a good scientist!

They're also not immune to magic, apparently! Look! Look! He gagged!... And just ran to start hyperventilating? Wow, that's kind of a big reaction to just a lil' stink, huh! How elementary for his deduction of realizing what this guy could be... Which says...
This guy is a human hunter with respiratory issues and/or nasal problems! Damn, Charlie is so smart! Ok, now, that push was a little mean, kinda funny but it was not nice, come on! Let the gal help you, you dick!... Though it was also a dick move to do that to someone who has those kinds of illnesses, so maybe Charlie should be quiet.

But speaking of the gal! She's coming towards Charlie! He needs a plan and quick!
Running away? No can do, he may know what the guy is but not her!
Sudden invisibility? Spell takes too long and too much energy, besides, she could just see him!
Attack? Well, that's not nice! Charlie was the one who started it, not her!
...Not many choices to make, what does he do?!
Hope for the best!

"Oh! Hello! Good morning, afternoon, evening and night! It's lovely to meet you, it truly is!" Charlie brightly commented, standing up like a showman ready to introduce a circus act with that colorful patchwork coat and the light reeking aura of some herbs. "What I'm doing here... Hm, what are we all doing here, actually? Maybe that's the real question to ask, uh, aaaaajjjuuuummmichelle! Michelle!" He desperately tried to do a fake fortune-telling trick of guessing names via the reaction of people, an old one from back in the day, only to fail horribly, man, guess this inn really has something of a barrier to it, huh? "...Would you believe me if I said I didn't mean to do that?" A nervous smile as his hands motioned to the guy.
Woo, boy, maybe he's actually going to die today!

Elijah 5.jpg
Elijah arched an eyebrow as likened him to Ashley-May. He had to admit it was a comparison he couldn't totally deny in this moment, instead electing to remain quiet... at least until the man suggested that he might have something untoward planned for the party. "Oh, please. Do give me some credit." He grinned mischievously. "The cage wouldn't be silver."

He turned, narrowing his eyes at Mackenzie as she voiced her dismay with him having any part with planning the party. It didn't take her long to bring Ash into it as well, stating that the blonde would undoubtedly already have plans of her own for the party. That was difficult to argue. If Elijah had to guess, Ash probably already had a venue, back-up location, and a night of fun in mind... and she would tolerate no competition. He pursed his lips. "Possibly," he acquiesced. "But I'm willing to bet I can convince her to take on a... collaborative approach to planning the 'festivities'. I can be very, very persuasive, you know," he purred -- deliberately exaggerating the attempt at a smooth tone as he knew how much it annoyed Mac and Adelaide.

rsz_adelaide_6.jpg
Addy had drifted away from the conversation, unable to follow it as she felt... something. Something tugging at the edges of her awareness. Even as the others joked at one anothers' expense, the witch couldn't quite place what it was. It was as if the runes she had placed as a sort of "magical alert system" around the Inn -- while not ringing out in alarm -- were certainly spooled up somehow. Someone was casting nearby and not with a kind of magic she was familiar with. It made her feel unsteady in a way she couldn't attribute to the rose as Addy crossed the kitchen wordlessly, ignoring the others. She glanced out the window toward the parking lot to see the figure of Morgan at the restaurant... along with Brody and a man she didn't recognize not far away.

Adelaide slipped out of the kitchen, leaving the door open behind her as she walked briskly across the lot toward Morgan and the stranger. He was on the smaller side, with olive skin and curly hair. His clothing was brash, bordering on impractical in this climate. And he positively reeked of magic. Addy's Gift was giving off all sorts of warning signals about him as she drew nearer, just in time to hear him speak: "...Would you believe me if I said I didn't mean to do that?"

Adelaide followed his eye line toward the retching Brody, her eyes narrowing as she looked back at him. "What's going on? Are you guys okay?" she asked, glancing in Morgan's direction.

Chase Keaton

While it was amusing to watch everyone bicker about who might be in charge of the bachelor party, Chase couldn't let the conversation get too far along or he'd find himself without any say-so. Especially if Ash arrived and started pitching in. He watched was Addy left quietly, and while he was curious there were bigger fish to fry. The man raised his hands up in an attempt to stop the two from continuing, "Well nobody should get their hopes up because Emile and I haven't talked about how we want to do things yet." Chase gave a sheepish shrug of his shoulders while continuing to hold up said hands, at best he'd just buy some time. That being said, given all of Ash's effort that sort of went to waste for both the parties and the wedding for Will and Mackenzie. Chase guessed she was probably putting together a binder as they spoke.

"Ash might have to make do with whatever kind of traditions Emile and his family go for." It wasn't easy slipping back into the word play for making sure he didn't oust himself or Emile as a werewolf again. After being around the people in both Vitae and Borseti it had slowly become second nature not to lie or word play. But now that they were among your average human and hunter both, it was necessary, and given the faint voices he'd picked up in the area he needed to start.

Morgan frowned at the strange man as he spoke a stuttering stumbling mess of words that seemed to tumble from his lips all at once but also so very slowly. She tilted her head as she listened, confused and curious all at once, even with Brody recovering himself behind her; whatever this man had come to do was passing and the Pack Guardian was righting himself.

Who the hell is Michelle?

She was not surprised to find Adelaide joining them from behind the building, it confirmed Morgan’s suspicions that this man had used magic of some kind to affect them. “We’re okay.” She answered the witch, though didn’t turn away from their unknown guest.

“You may not have meant any harm but what was the purpose of it? Why bother?”

Brody cleared his throat and took several steps away before spitting. It was necessary to clear his senses and he didn’t have the want or will to abandon both Morgan and Adelaide with the stranger. He might be susceptible to magic but no amount of nasty scents would stop him from tearing the stranger's head from his shoulders if he did end up posing a threat to either of them.

He could feel the uneasy tension between the two women, neither looking at the other directly. He had no idea how they were going to live like this without breaking.

Mackenzie narrowed her eyes at Elijah as he suggested more than what he was plainly saying to her. She knew if she hadn’t consumed a bottle and a half of wine while making dinner she’d be able to discern what the undertones were at this time. She decided to store it away for a future confrontation. She did agree, however, that Ash would likely bring him in as a consultant to the festivities.

Any thought to counter his statement was lost as Chase firmly implied that he would defer to whatever Emile and his family's traditions were instead. She couldn’t help but smirk and then laugh. “Oh dear god, you’re going to follow Quebecois traditions?” She shook her head but soon paused. “Ooooh, no, you mean Pack.” That made far more sense - she didn’t think Chase would be down for drinking flat warm beer in a sweat smelling strip bar in a shithole town was something he or Emile would ever enjoy.

“Fine but dinner is almost there and Addy ran off, you two go set the table.” She waved them back to the front of the kitchen and the doors that lead to the restaurant proper. “I don’t think we have any civilians here - At least Morgan didn’t tell me so just the family table.” She collected the empty wine glasses, bringing them to the large sink. “Oh, Eli, make sure you put Chase on the opposite end of the table from Skye and Liam; no need to torture him on his first night.”

Charlie, the Silk MagicianThree of Cups

Charlie's breathing was maybe a little bit sped up as he stayed still on that same expression and pose, as only his eyes looked back and forth from the two ladies, analysing them a bit more as he... may or may have not forgotten about the retching man on the background completely in the worry of Charlie's own life! "...Why, because that's boring! I mean, knowing what I am, why would I ever walk through the front door and ask for a room?! Hell, I bet today was pretty uneventful, so, ta-da! Here's something to talk about! A strange magician making little tricks out of nowhere- Oh, and that's one more thing! We can talk about it straight away without needing the whole finger pointing thing or someone blowing up!" He almost spoke like it was obvious as he rambled on and on, lazily leaning on the tree behind his back as he crossed his arms, a mild annoyance as his stare remained focused on the duo.

Man, does Charlie love to talk!
It makes him feel a little bit more calmer, freer and it's fun to talk with strangers!
So that last statement's disturbing connotation hit Charlie a little bit later than his tongue, something that tends to happen a lot!
It keeps the stakes high and it's a little bit of a favorite pastime to confuse and worry, so Charlie just says what goes on his mind most of the time!
Not that the consequences don't scare him, though!

"NOT that I COULD blo- Well, maybe, I don't know if I couldn't, I might!... But not that I WOULD blow up anything or anyone! I have a good technique despite everything!" Charlie briefly tried to explain himself, but maybe just stuck the knife in further on the present distrust, as he continued to be his own enemy and spoke the wrong words at wrong times. To be fair, it's a little scary... but it's kind of fun to pole the tiger with a short stick!
Besides, what better way is there to see how someone's like when you introduce an intruder on their life?

"You know what! Let's restart this, I'm kinda being a little out there and I haven't even acknowledged you!" Charlie lunged out of his stance, standing up still as his head angled as if to point at this new arrival, he nodded his head towards the duo. "I'm just a friendly traveling magician chasing for something that may or may not be around here is all!"' He dramatically bowed, smiling as he did so, as theatrical as before.

"OH, and please don't kill me or jail me, thanks! Maybe I should've opened with that first, in hindsight, but oh well!" He laughed a little, hands resting on his hip, sliding down from their clutched arms..."Oh, and sorry for your lover or whatever he is, completely my bad! Thought he didn't have anything up with him, so I just assumed things, it'll pass soon though! Just illusion things!" Charlie apologizes to both of them, smirking casually, trying to show himself as genuine which he can be sometimes! He isn't lying!!... Kinda!!!

Either way... this new girl feels perceptive, that's a little bit intimidating, of course, and if she's here, there's a reason to be here.
Either she's VERY connected with one of them or... With me?
Witches live in a small and crowded world after all, and there's definitely a magic influence from someone floating around the area, Charlie can feel it graze his skin like soft feathers... And there was a reason why the guy got jinxed but the lady didn't...
So let's ACTUALLY pay some attention to this one now, yes?

Elijah 4.jpg

Elijah knew that the look Mackenzie leveled at him could only mean trouble for him later, but tactfully ignored it to watch as Addy ducked out of the room. He considered following her, but she had been... distant ever since returning to the Mountaineer. Deciding to give her space, he simply turned toward Chase as the werewolf reminded him and Mac that the final say on any wedding plans lay with Emile and him -- and that they would likely be following Pack traditions. Eli inclined his head in deference. "Fair enough."

Mac instructed them to set the table in preparation for dinner and place Chase well away from Skye & Liam. He gave her a mock salute. "Understood. Plenty of buffer between the guest of honor and the demon spawn," he said, turning to give Chase a wink as he fetched the plates and cutlery, passing some of them to Chase before grabbing the remainder for himself to set places for everyone.

"You'll want to be here then," he remarked, designating a chair at the opposite end of the table from where Mac and Ash normally sat with the children. "Just know that nowhere is truly safe if they're having a bout of projectile vomiting. Stay on your toes."

rsz_adelaide_6.jpg
Adelaide was relieved to hear Morgan's answer and to see Brody joining them soon after, though she could feel the unease and dormant aggression radiating off the man in waves. As the interloper addressed them again, Addy did her best to narrow her focus on him and pierce the veil surrounding his mind. It was... more difficult than expected. It was like trying to wrangle a bag full of angry cats. Was he insane, too far from human for her to read, or simply warded against mental interference? She wasn't sure which possibility disturbed her the most.

The man introduced himself as a "traveling magician", apologizing for nearly incapacitating Brody with what he described as "illusion things" (she did her best not to react when he referred to Brody as Morgan's "lover"). In doing so, he effectively confirmed Adelaide's suspicions. However, he had also done his best to reassure them that he was friendly... a hard sell, given the circumstances, and one that Addy met with a hard glare and pursed lips. More interestingly, the magician stated he was chasing something. Who or what could have brought him to the Mountaineer? That being the case, it was better to discern his intentions now than later.

"Let's definitely keep the finger-explosions to a minimum," Addy remarked dryly. Her tone softened ever so slightly as she continued. "Why don't you start by telling us who you are and what brings you here, this time without the carnival act? Maybe -- maybe -- one of us can help you find whatever it is you're looking for. But that would require us being able to trust you."

Chase Keaton

Chase was admittedly confused at what Mackenzie meant before she caught onto what he was saying. And when the woman told Elijah to set him up opposite end of the little heathens Chase sarcastically put his hands together like he was praying and gave the woman a bow in thanks. "You spoil me." He joked, then headed of with Elijah to assist. Grabbing the plates handed to him as they made their way out of the kitchen, "I'll be eating in my room at the first sign of projectile vomiting, thanks." The man chuckled, placing down the plates and cutlery as he went around the table. His stomach was rumbling yet again at the thought of food combined with the smell that had already been wafting throughout the building. "So how are things with you and Ash?" He asked while continuing to do so with only a minor pause. It was an attempt at being more subtle than outright bringing up Ash's earlier thoughts.

Kyle threw his towel down onto the bed, shaking the last little droplets out of his hair. He winces at the new blue stains on top of the already multicolor splotched fabric and thanked his lucky stars that he decided against leaving the threadbare monstrosity in his truck. He pulled his outfit back on and walked back outside.

The crowd that had been gathered before he dipped out was growing and, checking his watch, he decided against trying to do laundry before food, so he opened the RV attachment on his truck bed, pulled out a butterfly knife to flip around, opened a fresh Monster, and started people watching. There's no way that would bite him in the butt, right?

Mackenzie turned her attention away from the boys as they went about their task to set the table for family dinner; she busied herself in putting together the final parts of their meal, removing the roasted chickens from the oven, fresh bread rolls, and basically any fixing they could have thought of. Cooking for the troop had become an art for her, knowing how much of which sides she needed to make to ensure that everyone had something they liked.

The wolves, thus far, always preferred a side that was carb or protein rich (both was the best) while Will and Ash liked their salads. She and Eli were simpler, fine with either or nothing at all. It seemed the legacy hunters didn’t care about variety when it came to meals, happy just to have food - good food - at all. The least picky of the people she had to feed were the kids; the tiny garbage disposals ate literally anything in front of them.

Morgan could not hide her look of surprise when the man’s answer came back as simple as : because he could. He was bored and therefore why not annoy and pester other people in his spare time. She’d heard the horror stories from Vitae where the pagan gods had much the same attitude, and had even fallen prey to one, Pan, and his game with hunting down Elijah. She couldn’t stop the rumbled growl from her chest as she watched the man bumble on announcing that he was friendly and meant nothing of it.

Hard to believe given the start but she didn’t interrupt Adelaide as she asked what it was he wanted or needed from them; he couldn’t have come here on a whim - no one like him ever did. She chanced a glance over her shoulder at Brody who looked like he was ready to tear the magician's head from his shoulders and she waved him away.

Brody paced a few steps away at Morgan's signal, ready to obey the command and honestly be away from the man and his tricks the sooner the better. He growled, turning back, ready to send the man packing when Morgan turned to give him a silent stare. “People like this don’t deserve our time or patience.” He didn’t take his eyes from the magic man as he spoke but when Morgan didn’t answer him, he inhaled deeply huffed, turning to stalk back towards the restaurant. Maybe if he alerted Mackenzie she’d kill him.

Ashley-May reached into the crib to lift the howling Liam as he woke from his nap and likely already hangry. She crooned and shushed him on her hip as she moved to stand in front of one of the large fans in their room in a desperate attempt to cool down his flushed face. She couldn't help but laugh as he screamed his protest then immediately fell silent as his eyes traced the ceiling fans blades in their slow spin above them. "Ah, yes, sky friend to the rescue."

She carefully made sure that she kept him facing the ceiling fan as she wandered around collecting what she'd need for their short trip to the restaurant for dinner, plus her tablet, into a small diaper bag. "Alright my boy, let's go find your real Skye friend right?" She stepped out of her and Elijah's rooms, stepping next door to knock at Will and Mac's door, already hearing Skye also throwing a rage fit of hunger beyond. She smirked at Will as he pulled open the door to let her in but immediately walked away, still getting ready to leave. She went to collect the screaming girl, who immediately quieted as caught sight of Liam. "Why does your mama do this to you, eh?" She crooned at Skye, bundled up in a pig sleeper. "What is her obsession?"

"Hey Will, when you step out can you check the guy standing by the camper?" She called to Will in the other room. "I feel like I know him from somewhere."

Charlie, the Silk MagicianThree of Cups

So, they don't seem to be harboring any clear evils, that seems good! They know of the supernatural, something Charlie had figured out by now, but it was nice to have it properly confirmed via words! They seem a little uncertain, which is pretty fair, I mean, basically stink bombing your friend in the middle of a rather meddlesome web of a situation considering what he has heard in the shadows seems hard to believe, that's not farfetched...

...What's curious is how he feels.
Sure, it's hard for Charlie to really gather a proper feeling in these peculiar moments of calm talking with how his mind tends to be, but alas, even a rowdy cacophony of children running around on recess can start hearing the commands of an annoyed teacher on the background, they continue to run around because if they listen, then the best part of the day is over!
But that voice is still there, the children acknowledge it as real, they just ignore it, but it is certainly perceived.
Charlie could probably find a way to drown this little lost sailor in his storming ocean... But let's see what this brave little guy finds in these unexplored seas! It can tell something about him he hadn't realized beforehand!
Besides, it can also tell him something about these people, what they're capable of doing and to what degree.

"Oh, that's so rude of me for not saying my name! But also how dare you? You can take Charlie out of the carnival act, but you can't take the carnival act out of Charlie!" Charlie held his hands to his chest as he shamed himself for his non-introduction, but quickly acted offended with a brief high pitch on his voice. It was true that he was a little uncertain to share his name, but that was mostly just a temporary precaution, just because something is named a chair doesn't mean there isn't a noise cushion or whatever it's called under it! "But greetings! I'm Charlie! I've come from a far away place thanks to some very smart people! No worries though! Despite the sponsors, I'm a one man show!" Almost like he wasn't even offended, Charlie happily introduced himself properly, keeping his origins a little vague for now, but giving the general gist in his own little unique way.

"As for my motives..." He quieted down a little, thinking... How much should he tell? Definitely not all, at least not until Charlie knows these people more. Sure, he's probably struck gold in his luck considering he's met others like him, but that might be fool's gold!... And he isn't entirely sure he can trust them either, as fun as it might be. "...Let's say this, I'm not hunting! I'm searching for information, and I'm simply following a trail! Whether it's correct or not, you will know with my thanks, but of course, I am willing to help out either way! I'm a nice guest!" Charlie's expression remained thoughtful before he explained with his usual pep on his speech, a big grin as he finished followed by a thumbs up! Now, of course, the Mountaineer was only a stroke of luck and chance, but that's his trail! He didn't omit it THAT much! That and it's also more mysterious about him... It's fun!

"Now, of course, I can stay out of your path completely, hell, I was first planning on sleeping right here if I didn't see you!" Charlie briefly laughed, motioning at the ground and then at his failed prank victim, that wasn't a lie at all! He's used to this little bedroom of his... Huh, seems that poor guy's going back! Thought he had already gone away by this point... Why does Charlie feel like he just glossed over something? Well! Whatever! It's probably something meaningless if he ignored it! "But, if you two are still here, that means that there's something you're willing to work out! So! What's up? Single? Married? Let's get to know each other!" He motioned his open hands towards the two ladies, cheekily smiling with a little comedy on his words, but genuienly curious.
What's up with these two anyway?

Elijah 5.jpg
Elijah shrugged as Chase remarked he'd flee to his quarters if faced with projectile vomit. "Your loss," he remarked casually, hiding his smirk as he set down the last of the plates and silverware. However, as the wolf asked about things between him and Ashley-May. It was an innocuous enough query, one he should have expected from a friend he hadn't seen in some time. And yet, Eli detected a slight change in his tone with the question and remembered just who had picked him up from the bus terminal. He glanced up at him curiously. "Very smooth, Keaton," he said dryly, though there was no malice in his tone.

"If you ask me, things are lovely," Eli remarked as he leaned on the seat back in front of him, hands braced upon it casually. "We're alive, we're not on the road anymore, we're all together for the most part. The little gremlins have a roof over their heads. And we're not constantly looking over our shoulder. And no, before you ask, I haven't done anything else colossally stupid like I did back at Vitae to make Ash want to claw my eyes out. I think things are swell."

He leveled a finger toward Chase. "But let me guess: she told you that I wasn't willing to settle down and expand our little family just yet -- something she's less than thrilled about and wanted your input on, maybe hoping you'd come and talk some sense into the incorrigible bachelor with commitment issues." He arched an eyebrow at the wolf before grinning. "Am I right?"

Adelaide finally managed to pierce the veil surrounding the magician's mind just as he formally introduced himself as Charlie. Her initial feelings quickly proved correct: the small performer oozed with magical talent. But as Adelaide tried to sift through it all, she quickly became overwhelmed by the stimuli. His was not a kind of sorcery she was familiar with. She had at least a passing familiarity with everything from Hoodoo to blood magic to the traditional druidic magic passed down for generations. But even through a psychic link, Charlie's... repertoire left her dazed and unsteady -- like looking through a kaleidoscope while spinning in circles.

However, just as quickly she reeled back, attempting to focus on what the man was saying. He was no hunter -- at least not at the moment -- but instead was searching for information and willing to offer his benevolent assistance at the Mountaineer... an offer that had Adelaide on edge given what his entrance had thus far consisted of. He certainly didn't spare the pomp and circumstance as he spoke, flashing a bright smile and giving the girls a great big thumps-up with the reassurance. He certainly seemed to take the carnival act seriously.

However, Charlie quickly transitioned into the tone of approaching that of a negotiator as he suggested -- less subtly -- that Addy and Morgan might be receptive to his presence and and arrangement... before promptly asking if the two of them were single. Adelaide arched an eyebrow at the sudden shift in subject, wondering if the man was hitting on them or if this was his idea of small talk. "My name's Adelaide, or Addy. And I'm taken, though I'm not sure why that's important," Adelaide said, impassively... managing to keep her eyes from drifting toward Morgan and Brody while she said it.
William 2.jpg

William managed to set Skye down for a nap in her bassinet before sneaking into the bathroom for a quick shower. He had the baby monitor turned on sitting just outside the curtain... and even still, throughout his brief time under the warm spray, he continued to reach out with his Grace -- sensing the child's presence and ensuring she remained at peace. He'd been told he "hovered" with the baby girl... and it didn't bother him in the least, frankly. There were worse things to be accused of, as far as he was concerned.

After finishing up and drying off without incident, Will climbed into a pair of jeans... just in time to hear Skye wake up and let out a torrent of hangry screams. He sighed, buttoning up the jeans before heading for the bassinet. He paused midway -- still shirtless -- as he heard a knock at the door, turning ninety degrees to open it and admit Ashley-May and Liam. He practically sighed with relief as Ash (or, more likely, Lee) managed to calm his daughter. "Thanks," he said with a grateful nod as Ash saw to Skye, giving him a chance to finish getting dressed.

William glanced over his shoulder as Ashley-May mentioned someone outside who looked familiar that she wanted his input on. "Uh, sure." He crossed the room, taking Skye into his arms as Ash offered her and looked over her pig sleeper that the woman had commented on. He shook his head. "Between this and her obsession with bacon, I'm beginning to wonder if she has a complex of some kind," he remarked with a smirk, pulling the door shut behind him as he balanced Skye on his hip. "C'mon, baby girl. Let's go see Mama and get you some good food. What do you say?"

Skye glanced back at him with wide blue eyes, offering him a coo in response that he could only assume was an affirmative, so he headed down the sidewalk with Ash, glancing across the parking lot toward the camper that Ash had mentioned. He immediately spotted the man leaning there, casually toying with a knife while sipping at a canned drink. He did look... vaguely familiar. It was hard to miss someone with his hair color and style, admittedly. But Will couldn't place it. Will gave him a nod to gauge his reaction, but didn't slow up as they headed toward the dining area.

"Yeah, definitely know him from somewhere..." he muttered under his breath to Ash. "Maybe one of the hunters from the barracks at Vitae?"

Kyle's eyes flicked from person to person as he tried guessing what they were talking about. Guessing by their stances, he figured the dude dressed like a stereotypical fortune teller was either being reprimanded for loitering, trespassing, or did something the others didn't like.

Movement in the corner of his eye brought his attention to someone walking out of a door. They looked familiar... As the man gave him a nod, it clicked. He was part of the group threatening Alex. Though it didn't look like he remembered Kyle... How long has it been since they last crossed paths though?

Fighting a scowl, Kyle forced a wide, carefree grin and gave a cheerful wave, mostly to mess with him. He reeeaaally hated the feeling of being teleported, and still held a slight grudge against the group, yet couldn't resist his more childish side.

The man's lips curled lightly into a smile at being found out almost immediately. Though he let the man explain his thoughts on the current part of the relationship as well as the situation. Hearing Elijah say they didn't feel the need to constantly looking over their shoulder anymore was a little surprising, and he wondered if the others felt the same. It was almost a foreign concept to him, but maybe that was a combination of being a Werewolf and a Hunter. He'd felt the need to look over both shoulders for many years. But ever since the events at Vitae? Losing his father, Vitae burning to the ground, almost losing Emile. No, he hadn't let his guard down like Elijah described. Even at Borseti, especially at Borseti. Not with Emile there and still recovering.

"She didn't outright ask me to." He replied to the accusation with a light shrug and tilt of his head. "But we're friends and she talked to me about what was on her mind." His hands slipped up to rest on his hips in nothing more than a relaxed position. "And far be it for me to meddle, but have you two tried to compromise?" To be honest he expected that they had, but it was always possible the two were too stubborn in their own stances to actually reach that stage. The clanking sounds of Mackenzie in the kitchen and the wafting stronger smells of the food were grabbing hard at the Werewolf's attention, and he knew the woman wouldn't wait long for their assistance in carrying more out to the table and rounding up the others. So, while their conversation continued and possibly was coming to an end given the fact that Chase wasn't looking to insert himself any further into the problem, he started inching towards the kitchen area once again. Only keeping pace with however far Elijah himself was willing to go.

Mackenzie grabbed the closest platter of food - an arrangement of cooked vegetables - as headed for the kitchen door, backing into the double swing door to push it open to the restaurant . She turned and came face to face with Chase, who looked as surprised to see her as she was of him. She glanced between the wolf and the hunter before hefting the platter into Chase's awaiting arms. "Let me guess - You're talking about babies." She could see the smug, almost annoyed, look on Elijah's face - she'd seen it before, every time he and Ash has their grand debate about children. More children to be specific.

She rolled her eyes and stepped back into the kitchen, grabbing another over filled platter and backing back into to the restaurant, holding it out waiting on Elijah to grab it from her. "I live next door to you and the walls are thin - I've heard the arguments on both sides. From someone who adamantly never wanted to be married of have kids: you don't know what tomorrow is going to bring you, enjoy what you can now." She passed off the platter to Eli and stepped back into the kitchen to grab the final platter, this one with two bowls for the kids.

Mac stepped back out into the restaurant, letting the doors swing closed behind her. "And don't be pessimistic about it - both of you." She narrowed her eyes at Chase too. "Vitae gave us shell shock; all of us thought it was safe there and we let ourselves relax but it also showed us that we don't have to have a safe little hole to hide in to actually live. Or at least it did for me."

Morgan frowned at the strange man as he rambled on but finally introduced himself as Charlie then swiftly followed up with audacity to questions their marital statuses. She inhaled deeply, closing her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose willing herself to have some patience as this man might have some kind of mental disability, even if he was a pain in the ass, and she needed to remain calm.

"I'm Morgan, my marital status not anyone elses business. I'm the manager of this Inn and I'm concerned you're going to disrupt my guests here." She opened her eyes again to watch for his reaction. "So I'm more than willing to rent you a room, we're about to serve dinner at the restaurant, but you'll be signing an agreement to be at peace with the other residence here - no more magical shenanigans because I can't guarantee your safety."

She took a quick glance to Adelaide, nodding back towards the restaurant and kitchen - if this man pulled anything on Mac or the kids he'd have several people down his throat before she or Adelaide could stop them.

Ashley-May frowned but nodded; she had been hopeful that Will would know who he was but at least they had narrowed him down to Vitae. She didn't think he'd been a hunter; she knew them well after years of sewing them back together after hunts. She felt like he had only been part of Vitae for a short amount of time, perhaps one of the many who were part of the hunting community but didn't actively hunt. "Well, we'll know the second Mac sees him." She said with little confidence, offering a smile and a wave back to the friendly man.

As they approached the restaurant she could see Adelaide and Morgan speaking with another guests. "Looks like the seasons' picking back up." Brody was glowering by the door to the restaurant, arms crossed and a brooding stance as he stared after the trio by the tree. "Problems?" She asked playfully - Brody often saw problems where there weren't any; something she had once chalked up to the Cannonach family but Mac had been ... relaxed after the fall of Vitae; for someone who had watched two colonies get destroyed in her life.

Brody grunted his response, nodding towards the trio talking at the edge of the lot. "He's a witch... or warlock?" He frowned at the name. "Or whatever and decided to fuck around -" he paused, glancing at the kids in both Ash's and Will's arms, both paying attention. "Uh, yea, decided to cast a well on me and Morgs as a way of introduction... Sorry."
