Dean

It was late afternoon, and the black Impala purred as Dean swung the wheel with careless grace, angling her to park alongside the pavement. He knew his baby perhaps a little too well, having spent probably half his life inside her. He shut off the engine with a soft click, and leaned forward to stare at the building as he tucked the keys into his pocket. "Typical bastards," he grumbled to the boy sitting alongside him. "Abandoned warehouse, and a whole lot of them... This isn't going to be easy. Not that it ever is." He shrugged at his brother with his usual nonchalance that wasn't really real. Dean wasn't worried about his own life, going in here. He was going to die in a year, anyway. But he always looked out for his brother - he didn't want to have given up his life for nothing.

Still, it was a hunter's job to go into dangerous territory, and this nest had murdered a whole family the previous night. There had been almost nothing left of them. There were rumoured to be around five of them, and the daughter of the family had disappeared - either run away, or had been taken here. Or turned. Vampires were animals, and they made him sick. Dean opened his door, getting out and closing it softly behind him. He opened the boot and started getting out the equipment they'd need - three syringes of dead-man's blood each, and a large knife he tucked into a holster at his belt. There was nothing quite like cutting off a vampire's head. Then, after a moment's hesitation, he also pocketed the Colt.

"Ready, Sammy?" he asked his brother, sizing up the building. The vampires should be sleeping at this time of day, and hopefully they'd have the element of surprise here.

Rain

She was so hungry.

Rain hadn't slept since last night. Her memories were hazy. There had been screams from her brother's room. From her parents' room. From her own mouth as her door had been flung open, and the pale man with blond hair leered over her - beautifully terrifying as blood dripped from his lips. And then, a sharp pain in her head, and nothing until she woke up with a ravenous thirst. He had explained to her, as she'd sobbed and cried for mercy, his cold hand cupping her cheek. Vampires and monsters were real, and he wanted more family to join him.

But he'd killed hers.

Her arms were tied to the ceiling, chin resting on her chest as she stared at the ground. Dusty teartracks lined her cheeks, and there was a bloody wound on her arm where he'd turned her. Her life was over. Thoughts had reverberated around her head for the past few hours - she didn't even know what time it was. The few spots of light that peeked through seemed to burn her retinas, and she was thirsting so badly for blood. It was confusing and distressing and terrible. They'd left her here, alone in this room. She just wanted to die. Weak and exhausted, she closed her eyes and drifted.

Lumen had been investigating this particular nest of Vampires for a long while. She'd been following them around as they moved from town to town, hoping to get them in one spot and kill them all. She continued to hunt, even after all these years, even after her sister's accident. It was basically the only thing that kept her sane nowadays, so she couldn't find it in herself to stop. There was no way she'd be able to replace her days with anything else as meaningful. At least this way, she would continue to save people. Even though she couldn't save her sister, there were plenty of innocent people she could save. She would continue to do that until she died-- which, considering her Witch blood, could be many many years from now. Slipping into the warehouse through a small crack in the floor, Lumen looked up at the area in front of her. She was a Witch, and so she could easily take shape of any animal she needed. Currently, she was a tiny barn mouse, scampering across the floor, looking for the Vampires. She knew they were here somewhere. Skittering under a closed door, Lumen's whiskers twitched as she spotted the nest. A few of them were sitting around, speaking quietly, apparently unaware of her presence. A young woman was tied up nearby, in the next room, though to Lumen, it appeared as if she was passed out. This was not a good sign. Clearly she wasn't one of the Vampires. At least not knowingly.

Hearing a door creak, Lumen whipped her head around, listening, ears perked up. Apparently the Vampires had heard it too, because one of the men shushed the group, pointing to the closed door. Sighing inwardly, Lumen scampered under the door and back out into the main part of the warehouse. Spotting two men entering, she made her way to a dark corner behind them and transformed back to her usual self, before approaching quietly. "Hey. Get down." She whispered, pulling the men into the shadows just as the previously closed door opened, and the main Vampire looked out. As he scanned the area, Lumen whispered under her breath, a small enchantment to guard them from view. As the Vampire sighed and shut the door again, Lumen stopped her enchantment. Looking to the men, she put her hands on her hips. "Haven't you ever heard of being quiet?" She asked angrily.

Sam was nervous about this particular mission. Vampires were always dangerous, if only because of how easy it was to get bitten. He never wanted to suffer that fate, and he hoped if he ever did, Dean would kill him. Sam disliked most monsters, but Vampires were particularly cruel. Once someone became a Vampire, there was no way to turn them back, and usually, they ended up being bloodthirsty animals. There was no way to save them, and no way to stop them from killing. It was a sad fate that happened far too often to innocent people. As Dean turned off the Impala and got out, Sam followed, shutting his door quietly. The night was still and silent, and it brought a little bit of fear into Sam's heart. He would never admit to being afraid of their hunts, but he was, sometimes. It was hard not to be, after all. With all the things they'd seen, Sam still got scared sometimes. It was dangerous work, and he was mostly fearful for his life-- his and Dean's. Especially because Dean would be gone in a year. It was too distressing to think about at the moment, so Sam turned his attention to the mission at hand. This was, of course, what he should have been doing in the beginning. Sighing as he followed Dean inside the abandoned warehouse, Sam thought his brother might be making a bit too much noise. However, he said nothing. Following Dean into the dark building, Sam almost cried out when a hand touched his shoulder.

A moment later, he and Dean were being pulled into the shadows, and a man was opening a back door and looking out curiously. It seemed Dean had been too loud, just as Sam had predicted. After the man returned to the room and shut the door, a woman stood in front of Sam and Dean, hands on her hips, angry at their lack of quiet.
"Where did you come from? How do we know you're not a Vampire, too?" Sam asked, holding his knife out at her. It was made of silver, which would hurt if it touched her skin. If she was Vampire, that was. The woman rolled her eyes and grabbed his knife, cutting a gash in her arm. As the blood seeped out, she whispered something, and a moment later, it was healed. "I wouldn't be able to touch that blade if I were. Now listen, they have a young woman inside, captured in the room over from that one. We need to get her quickly."

Dean was ready for a fight. He was the sort of guy whose bloodlust sometimes got the better of him, although his honed skills rarely let him down if he got into trouble. His steps, perhaps, were not as quiet as they could have been - he wasn't exactly elegant. He was getting careless overall, and he wasn't really even noticing it. It wasn't going to end up well one day. He only heard the vampires as the door opened - his pulse quickened even further, a soft sigh escaped his lips - and he was drawn into the shadows.

Only the fact that he'd assumed it was Sam prevented Dean from crying out. His lips were pressed together as he turned to stare at the girl who'd pulled them into this dark place. Through some miracle - or her spell? - they were not seen by the monster who peered out at the area. To be honest, his feelings were a bit conflicted. Although he should be grateful that she'd prevented them from being seen, he was more concerned by how she'd done it. His expression grew incredulous as she sliced open her arm with silver, then healed it. Not demon, and not a vampire - it couldn't be a witch...?

His first impression of her, quite honestly, was that she was short. Sam at 6,4" sometimes made him look stout despite being 6 foot tall, but this girl was tiny. Her face was too old for her to be a young teenager though; she was just a small young woman. Attractive, too, in that pale ethereal sort of way - but it wasn't the time to get distracted by that. Dean didn't know if they could trust her, and it wasn't in his nature to go along with strangers. That was how people got killed. Then again, if he was going down anyway... His eyes briefly met Sam's, his hand resting on the handle of his knife.

"The girl from the family that was murdered?" he murmured softly, looking interested at this new information. If she hadn't been turned, they could even save a life tonight. If not, he was going to have an uncomfortable job on his hands. "Alright. If we just barrel in there, we're going to get ourselves killed. There must be a way around. Sam and I will take care of it," he told her dismissively, moving more quietly this time as he started to slink along the side of the wall. "There must be a window that we can access from outside... Or something..." Thankfully, the sound of clinking metal masked his noise, as did the murmur of voices from inside the room.

Rain could hear it. Thump-thump. Thump-thump. It was the rhythmic beat of something behind her, where the other vampires were. At first, she thought that maybe - just maybe - they were playing music, or just smacking something. But as instinct kicked in, and her nostrils flared, she picked up the smell of fresh blood. She was absolutely starving, and the scent was as clear as daylight to her. She needed it. Struggling, her chains clanked as she writhed.

She was took weak to break them, and the sounds only served to bring the alpha into her room. "Are you hungry, my dear?" he purred, slinking toward her weakened figure. Rain stared at him with red-rimmed blue eyes, desperate for a drink. Red liquid, thick, warm... "I think it's time that you had your first proper snack." With a lingering stare, he turned around and headed back into the other room. He gathered two of the other vampires, and they headed out through the other door in the room. Two vampires were left waiting there, one of them napping in an armchair.

Lumen raised an eyebrow as the man who'd spoken dismissed her. Probably believing she was just some silly woman, despite the fact that she'd just saved both of the men's asses. Sighing, Lumen watched as the two men walked forward, trying to figure out some kind of plan. Deciding that she didn't need either of them, considering they were both super loud anyway, she crouched down and transformed back into a mouse. Scurrying by the two men, Lumen made her way to the room where she'd seen the girl who had been kidnapped. Lumen hoped that she wasn't turned yet, but she had a sick feeling that she was. Her feeling was confirmed as she slipped under the door, only to find the alpha Vampire speaking to the girl. He was speaking to her about eating something. Obviously she was hungry- and Lumen had a feeling it wasn't for a burger and fries.. Unless the burger was made of human blood. Watching as the male Vampire left the room, She heard a commotion outside, and knew that the two men who had entered were now most likely fighting the Vampires. This gave Lumen the perfect chance to free the girl. Skittering up to the girl's side, Lumen studied her silently for a moment. Her presence went unnoticed, per usual. She was easily unseen in her form as any animal. No one ever thought about the fact that the little mouse in the room could be a spy.

Deciding it was safe, Lumen transformed back, and put a hand out gently to calm the girl. "Don't scream. I'm here to help." Deciding the best course of action was to knock the girl out, Lumen touched the girl's cheek gently and whispered an incantation, instantly putting her to sleep. Undoing the chains and cuffs that the Vampires had used to keep her locked up, Lumen held the girl up with one arm as she slowly and quietly pulled her to the door. The sounds of fighting had ceased, so she guessed it was safe. Opening the door, she was surprised to come face to face with one of the men. The taller one.
"Oh." She said quietly, smiling. He smiled back, though it was weak. "Let me help you with that." He told her, taking the girl easily in his arms. Lumen nodded and followed him out into the main room, where the other man was waiting. It seemed they'd taken down all the Vampires easily. Nodding her approval, Lumen heard the taller of the two men speak. "She'd already freed her by the time I got in there. Seems we just needed to take care of the Vampires." Lumen cleared her throat and clasped her hands together awkwardly. "I think that.. They've already turned the girl."

Sam was concerned with how the woman in front of them had made them disappear so easily. He was also concerned with the fact that neither he nor Dean had seen her upon entering the building. It was like she'd just appeared. It made him uneasy. Even so, he didn't feel threatened by her- she didn't seem to be interested in killing them or fighting them. Sam could only imagine why she was here. It appeared that she was here to save the kidnapped girl as well, but he didn't know why. She obviously wasn't Human, so surely she couldn't be a Hunter. At least she wasn't a Demon or a Vampire, though. That much was clear when she'd cut herself with the knife. Seeing Dean's dismissal in his short sentence, Sam didn't argue with him. He just wanted to save the girl. The woman disappeared behind them, and Sam couldn't see her anymore. In that moment, the door to one of the rooms opened and a few of the Vampires entered the main room. Spotting them, the Vampires growled and charged forward. Of course, Sam and Dean were ready for them. Sam ran forward and stabbed one in the neck with the blood they'd brought along, and the Vampire went down immediately. As he went down, another rushed towards Sam, and slammed him into a wall. Sam winced as he felt his back hit the concrete, but focused instead on stabbing the Vampire with his knife. The Vampire screeched angrily and backed up, allowing Sam to stand. As it charged forward again, Sam finished it off with a stab of the needle to the arm.

It seemed Dean was taking care of his own Vampires, and he looked like he was doing fine. Sam decided to scout ahead and see if there were anymore before he bothered looking for the girl. In the room that they'd come out of, there were a few sleeping. A few minutes later, and it was all taken care of. Slipping out of the room, Sam saw that Dean was finished too. Swallowing harshly, Sam made his way to the room where the girl was being held, and opened the door, surprised to come face to face with the woman who'd seemed to disappear. Taking the girl from her, Sam held her limp body bridal style and brought her over to Dean, telling him that the woman had already freed her.
"We should take her back to the hotel. See how she's doing." Sam said to Dean, sighing. He had a feeling that the woman was right- the girl in his arms was probably already turned. "And I think we should bring her along, too." Sam told him, nodding to the woman who'd rescued the girl.

For a moment, Rain gasped as a woman suddenly appeared in front of her. It was only a moment before animalistic instinct kicked in, and her fangs started to grow down. In some deep recess of her mind, she was terrified, and bleakly wondered whether this was an angel to take her away - but most of her thoughts were centred on the obsessive need for blood. As she growled softly, a gentle touch alighted on her cheek, and her teeth receded as everything went black.

Dean glanced around himself, blinking as their new companion just seemed to disappear into thin air. Well, then. That was unsettling. But his focus wasn't on strange informers, however bizarre - she hadn't attacked them, and had only served to help. Right now, they were dealing with very dangerous enemies. Facing forward again, the door opened, and the direct line of sight was on Sam and himself. He was getting high on adrenaline, and he loved the feeling.

Dashing forward, Dean stabbed into the stomach of an approaching vampire. It reeled back, and he took the opportunity to slice off its head. Another attacked him from behind, teeth sinking into his arm - he whirled around, with a syringe of Dead Man's Blood. It was a blond man, tall and imposing. With a look at them both, he turned tail and ran. Dean pursued him, but he disappeared quickly amongst the shadows. He searched for him, calling, but to no avail. Deciding that Sam might need him, he reluctantly turned and returned to the main area.

His brother already had the girl in his arms, and his green eyes grew hard at the suggestion that she might have been turned. He looked at the girl, who seemed so small in her unconscious state, then down to the pale woman who'd helped them. "...Thanks," he eventually said, raising an eyebrow. She'd gotten in there before them, and he needed to know why. "I agree with Sam. I'm Dean, by the way," he called over his shoulder as he turned around, swaggering toward the exit with a bloody knife still clutched in his hand. Dean was determined to be ready, just in case she tried anything. "Who are you?" he asked, suddenly stopping to turn and look at her.
