Fate could only fight it for so long, she had stopped fighting and got corrupted. She was silent so it was hard to tell if the machine worked.

(apologies for assuming only some of the apartments in the building are in bad shape and maybe a few of them have actually been fixed up to some degree by previous tenants?)

(ok but seriously you should've put that into the equation before explaining how ben and fate's apartment would be paid for)
