Glass

About ready to leave, Glass sighed. "Oh well. Guess I'll just destroy it all..." she said as she began walking to the door, glancing over her shoulder to see the clay doll she'd made twitching and spasming. It reshaped itself into a handsome-looking man with hair that was brown so light it bordered white, wearing fancy clothes. What came out of its mouth, however, was less pleasant... but no worse than the kind of brain hemorrhages she got from time to time. She could handle it.

With a clenched jaw, she returned its thorough analysis, considering its painful words. Yet with composure she replied, "I shall be frank. From what I've read of your Cain's tales and memories, you have nothing to give me I have not already achieved or surpassed. Make no mistake, I am not here to beg or bargain, you are here to trade with me. I have reason to believe that you'll bother and bombard me with Cains until you get them back. I think we can come to a middle ground. I propose you allow me to take out artifacts to study... along with a couple of other conditions, including the improvement of conditions and training for normal Cains and the addition of positively impacting artifacts to alter negative fates... and I'll help retrieve artifacts for you, at my discretion. Ones you couldn't hope to get with a standard person. How does that sound?"

There were very few perks to being a Guardian aside from the obvious, and one of them was that you didn’t ever truly work alone, no matter how much gunslingers like her said they did. She had Sagii, her little buddy that was tucked under her breastplate for the moment, and they had a great sense of hearing. Until just recently, the cops were only talking about how “unfortunate” the event was and “everyone was too startled to do anything,” but one of them gave a tip to a “hero” Sagii admitted to themselves they weren’t going to like: it was a description. While Kallen was being handled by Samantha, the information they were gathering was being transmitted directly to her HUD in real time as the conversation was happening. They’d have a target, at least, and it’d help further cement Kallen into a more stable work-mode mentality.

Fortunately for all of them, between the information the officer was giving to some other hero and Samantha’s keen nose, it seemed like they’d all get a chance to put that anxious energy to use… But not before that new face that Sagii wasn’t sure they were going to like made their own showing. The little light was more than ready to pop out of Kallen’s breastplate to give them a piece of their mind, but Kallen seemed to sense the intention and clamped one of her hands over the breastplate. It, for the moment, made it almost impossible for Sagii to escape. If… Well, if the kid was still lingering around, she’d have to give him some sort of kind gesture, right?

Kallen started making her way to the kid’s body once again, her mechanical eyes set on the child and his mother until she had gotten nearly just behind the other hero. If it wasn’t for the fact that they walked off to blather something about taking her revenge away from her and rounding up a new posse for the sheriff or whatever they did in this world, she would’ve shoved them out of the way, but by that time, she had a cleared route and it was unnecessary. It was hard to even kneel and seemingly pull an object out of thin air: it was a badge of sorts; a small tetrahedron which held impossible shapes deep within its translucent surface, swirling and reshaping over and over again as if a galaxy of its own. It was a prized possession of Kallen’s – a badge of honor given to those who took place in a plethora of different missions that ended in saving her galaxy almost single-handed, and a record of all their achievements up until this very moment. It was a symbol of unwavering bravery and loyalty to one’s own code in the face of horrors nigh-unspeakable, and as far as she was concerned… Well, the kid deserved it more than she did.

Gently prying open the poor boy’s tiny hands that were dwarfed within her own, Kallen placed the tiny, monumental trinket between his palms and ruffled his hair just one more time. She hoped that whatever divine force – if it even existed – ruled over this world, they’d be kind enough to pass it onto the boy on the other side; the one she couldn’t apologize to and the one who deserved far better than a dog’s death.

With that, Kallen stood again and withdrew her handcannon, which she hadn’t even remembered placing into its holster on her hip before checking it over. Popping open the cylinder, she realized she hadn’t even had the chance to get a single shot off… Well, it really only meant that she had a cylinder meant just for them, didn’t she? For now, she’d switch it out. Ejecting the load was just as easy as pulling it out and – after etching “Target” on it – stowing it away so she could insert a new kinetic payload within.

“Heroes ain’t suited for this kind’a work, kid,” Kallen called out to the ‘Masked Wonder-’ yeah, she’s calling the new guy that from now on.

“Local Hero registry designates that one as ‘Ronin,’ Guardian-” Sagii interjected, finally freeing themselves from the breastplate to float nearby.

“Yeah, Ramen, whatever - either fall in line and agree to me taking the final shot or go save some gas station from being robbed. You weren’t their literal galaxy-wide ass-kicking guardian, which means it ain’t your kill to steal.”

It’s all she was going to say before she nodded to Samantha, acknowledging she had a trail. There wasn’t a derelict shuttle's chance in a collapsing star’s gravity well that she was going to let someone she didn’t know take the lead, let alone decide the fate of the kid’s killer, so she was quietly appointing Sam as the point-man of sorts. It wouldn’t have been right to the kid or the mother when she was the one who was literally summoned from her own galaxy to keep the kid alive if someone else took charge.

“Follow it as fast as you can cuz I ain’t fallin’ behind,” she started, locking eyes with Samantha. “The quicker, the better. I want that War-Beast’s-mangy-sac found before they can wipe their blade clean in some back-alley speak-easy.

“As for… whatever your name is that talks to ghosts – Sable, right?” Kallen continued, looking to Sable. “If you can do more with souls than just talk, you’ll have the chance to have your own fun if you come along."

RONIN

ronin wast too happy with what he just heard, mockery wasnt something he was fond off , but the hero who was talking with seemed important , like someone who did things for the world he couldnt even wish to do and it kinda gave him a feeling of comfort that people this strong were working to solve this case , he smiles behind his mask to the dumb nickname .

he held the little creature in his hand handing it back to kallen.

he closed his eyes thinking about something then looked back at the robotic hero
" you can have the last shot , but i , i get to hurt him , untill he suffers just as much as he made them suffer "
he said extending his hand out for a handshake .

Lady Death

Sable watched Kallen patiently as she seemed to run circles in her mind for a while, electing to speak only when she was spoken to. At the question of the O.A may have been responsible, her response was rather prompt, soft and polite as ever. "Unlikely the O.A, I'd think." It seemed one of the nearby officers and a new arrival were discussing the scene as well, keen ears taking note of the description even as Sable took a few deep inhalations of the air, as if she was trying to force more O2 into her respiratory system than was truly needed. If only it was such a simple thing, for Sable had no beating heart nor lungs that would pump...no, she was scenting the air like a hound trying to track down the fox that had run off. However, everything else fell away as one of the spirits spoke, the young mother voicing her questions. Rather quickly, Sable stooped to her knees, her legs resting beneath her as she folded her hands in her lap, gaze going to the air right above the corpses...to two ghosts only she could see. She didn't hear Ronin's cry for a manhunt, nor even take note of Samantha confirming she had a scent to follow...no, every fiber of her being was focused on the two souls, taken too soon from their bodies.

It was an all too familiar situation...the question of 'what happens now', the pleas for any other option. Sable sported a sympathetic frown, the knees of her pants inches from that warm puddle of crimson ichor that bled from the two corpses. "Dearly departed...no, Vera is your name, yes? Vera and Louie Villin. I am sorry for the fate you have met...both of you so young. What happens now is typically I would escort you to the lands of the dead, so you may be guided to your final resting place...You're a good mother, Missus Vera. Your only concern is for your son, and you've disregarded anything that would happen to you...Do you truly mean that? You'd give anything for your child to live again?" It was a genuine question, and Sable seemed to have tuned out the world about her, and didn't seem to mind the fact she likely looked like a total loon talking to two corpses. This scene felt...unsettling familiar. Half faded memories of screams in the night and into the storm outside...a blood pool on carpet, a woman's corpse...a damaged unsafe. Haunting sounds of gunfire all around her, sounds of burning flora and shouted orders...Sable blinked, snapping herself back to reality. She wouldn't let herself reminisce on the past, she couldn't at this moment. Her attention shifted to Louie, sporting a polite little smile. "Louie? Please don't be afraid of me, I'm not that spooky, I promise you...I will ask only once, so please be honest. What did you want to be when you grew up? Did you enjoy going to parks? Playing games with your mom?" "I… wanna be a hero…? I love parks. But I love playing games more…” Again her attention shifted to Vera, speaking again, "What is your favorite memory? Of you and Louie, specifically...What was one thing you always wanted to do together? Do you have regrets?", "“That’s a cruel question… don’t you think..? I want to see him off to college one day. I want to see him get married one day. I don’t have a favorite memory. There are too many of them.” and finally she spoke to both of them once they answered. She knew she shouldn't offer such hope, even if she could grant it...but a child of five with his mother struck down in a crowded city street boiled something deep inside of her. This wasn't right, even by the standards of Life and Death..."Not a cruel question, I think...I simply wished to weigh your desires and your thoughts. If I could give you a second chance, would you like that? To live again?" “If you make sure the bad man isn’t gonna hurt me again…” "Of course! Why is that even a question? Even if you could only take Louie the answer would still be yes. A thousand times yes.” Sable gave a nod at that, working to unsling the rifle from her back, the old rifle well cared for and pristine as the day it'd had first been crafted. "I promise you both...I will not let harm befall you. And it is a question, Missus Vera, because you'd be surprised by how many are content to let their end be the final chapter...Thank you for your time."

Sable reached to the bolt of her rifle and slid it back, a hand reaching to little ammunition pouch at her belt before producing but a single round, flicking the pouch closed once again as she clutched the round in her hand, focusing on it. When she once again opened her hand, the round was coated in shimmering and shifting shadows, darkness clouding the surface and leaving wisps when she moved it from her hand into the rifle, slamming the bolt shut to chamber the round. Softly, Sable began to speak to herself, just loud enough to hear as if she was reciting some ancient rite or scripture. "With this round, I invoke my rights as Champion of your name. And with this round, may you take note of my request for audience. With this request for audience, know I wish to speak. I request to kneel in the presence of Death itself, and humbly ask her favor." With every line she spoke she did a quick field check of her weapon, the final line resulting in the garand being held aloft above her, Sable having propped herself into a kneel on one knee, her other foot planted on the ground. "Death, I would seek to barter, and to undo natural order." With that she pulled the trigger, the cacophonous noise of a rifle fired in broad daylight into the sky getting at least a block's worth of attention. As the bullet left the barrel it gave a ghostly hiss, a trail of shadows and miasma trailing after it as it soared high into the sky before suddenly erupting like a flare. And where it shattered in the light of day, a large black silhouette of a rose was formed, crossed with a rifle and a scythe in the air...otherwise ominious, but one of the only true 'sure fire' ways to get her Mistress's attention out the gates. Sable stared aloft for a while before standing upright slowly, looking over to Kallen. "My duties are here, for now, Missus. I will catch up with you, should you depart."

Ah. Right to the point, was it? Very well. Taking a seat confidently, she inspected each book. After careful examination, she opted for the first of the presented options: the princess of drought. A simple tale of a city in the desert that had a guardian water spirit that for some reason refused to commune and bargain with the new leader. Well... the answer to her seemed fairly simple. "Would I be able to go in with supplies? I have just the solution in mind for this one..." she said with a grin.

Hannya

The armor-clad swordswoman watched Cyri curiously as she seemed to converse with herself...was she schizophrenic? Speaking to spirits only she could see, perhaps? Or had she been chasing the dragon before the both of them arrived, and that could likewise explain her strange personality and actions thus far. "Sister?" Hannya asked calmly, just as lost as 42 at such a statement. Watching Unagi displace herself from the bean bag and go into the hall, Hannya's eyes landed straight onto Cyri who had gone and put her hoodie up, fingers continuing to rap atop her thigh. Was this girl putting on an act? No...her entire appearance had changed. If it had been just a change in her demeanor it could be disregarded as some sort of elaborate act or need for attention, like a child who had been deprived of such...no, something was amiss here, she just wasn't sure what yet. "Well met, Aranea. You are...correctly informed, it should seem. This city is a collection of swordmasters from my understanding, so my visitation here is partly to learn what they may offer and add it to my own knowledge..." Hannya's tapping on her thigh grew in pace, almost as if she was displeased with this development. It was a clear attempt at bribery...but was it truly bribery in her case? Now that she knew 42 was here, she was regrettably honor-bound to protect her. Though she despised the girl, she was the face and honor of the land of the rising sun. Obviously, she couldn't protect herself and she was inept...but her death would shake faith and wound the pride of her people...she'd decided she'd have to make sure her ineptitude didn't get her murdered in the long run. Of course, Aranea would have no means to know such a thing...not unless she could read her own thoughts, as she'd voiced such conviction to no one. If she agreed, she would simply be doing as she had intended from the start, while likewise making her means of establishing communication easier. "This is...acceptable. On my honor, 42 shall be safe, even if I should meet the grave in the process." Hannya reached out, a gloved hand clasping the opposing to give it a shake. "Is that all you had for me, Aranea?"

Corvus

She had to give it to the otherwise crippled vampire, she was a rather efficient means of transport. Whether that was because she truly cared for Corvus's daughter or the ever-present chance that Corvus could simply inflict some sort of terrible disease upon her she wasn't quite sure, nor did she really care in this moment. Half a block out and she could see the cloud of death that had formed at a park, a frown etching on her lips behind her mask. What had happened for this to happen...and what would they do to save her daughter? She could only fathom the amount of dead they'd be looking at for this...As the car screeched to a halt at the edge of the park Corvus unbuckled herself and slipped out of the car, made all the easier by the fact her side had lost the door. "Arenike, you may stay here if you wish. It's not safe to travel forwards into this." Corvus reached up to the brim of her hat to adjust it a bit, starting forward into the cloud of position, the soft click...click...click of her staff on the concrete walkway she followed the only noise she made. A hand was held aloft at her side, that black miasma forming in the palm of her hand and starting to actively siphon the poison around her into that pitch gas in her grasp. She could clear the park in time, but it'd take a while she suspected, and she'd need a tea break after...

There were so many dead, it was such a bleak sight...pets mingled among their owners, and children clinging to their mothers and fathers. Oh her dear Viona...what had she done? She had seen so many plagues in her life, but this was...a new brand of macabre and awful to witness. As that miasma in her hand continued to 'feast' on the cloud around her, a 'bubble' of pure air started to form around her, the little area of survivability that many may have sought not needed by Corvus. As she wandered through the cemetery that had once been a park, her attention drifted to two figures who crouched nearby...there was Viona, but what in heavens name was Eternox doing here? "Dear sir Eternox, developed resistance to death have you?... Viona, my dear, what happened?" Corvus's usual upbeat candor had held strong when she was addressing Eternox, but seeing her 'daughter' made it drop to a more concerned and hushed tone, the plague doctor moving forward until she stood but a few feet away, the 'bubble' around her of pure air continuing to grow.

Orpheus sighed as his employees began to work on him, refilling his ceruleum he began to try to talk, but his jaw locked up and began sparking. Orpheus closed his eyes as if exasperated, and grabbed his own jaw. Pulling before ripping it off, and handing to to a nearby employee. And as if already ready for it, 2 employees already had a new jaw and were installing it. Once he was able to move his mouth he let out a sigh. "this blue liquid is Ceruleum, liquid magic per say, it can be quite temperamental if handled improperly. But any decent magitek Engineer should be able to handle it fine." Holding out his hand a red vial was placed in it, quickly popping to cap off he poured it on to his face. Muscle tissue slowly grew back onto his face as frost had already covered the exposed metal parts of his face. "Spear is mine to kill. I'll find him so dont worry. And here, you forgot this back at the store" He tossed axiom the gold coins he had offered before, before going into the van behind him. "if your in San Diego. They will be very useful, until next time." Was the last he said before his entire group quickly drove off. as if they were never there in the first place.

Odin
The woman just grimaced, glancing over at King. She was glad that he didn't decide to fight either. It was good that this was one of the cases where he used his head. She hoped that would continue. The threat of being made into a reaper made her hair stand on end, and she almost readied herself to fight indeed in an attempt to be forced to fade... but the following offer got a sigh of relief.

The offer was a generous one, and possibly more in the two mortal's favor than Death was realizing. Like many terrorist cells, as that was indeed what she was, she knew as little as was needed to do her job. Shit, she didn't even know where any of their bases were. She had a notion of what the souls were being used for, but no idea where they were... and Odin would be surprised if Death didn't already guess that much.

A moment of silence followed as she contemplated why Death would allow such a thing when she surely knew that the pair likely didn't know much... but in the end it was worth taking the offer. "King... I won't force you, but I think it's worthwhile," she said with another glance over at him. "Even if we refuse, we'll be made into a reaper... and they will likely extract what we know during that process, or after."

1658196179775.pngLady Death, as well as Vera and Louie Villin
Death, an offshoot of herself since her main form was busy talking to the two terrorist souls, sighed as she decided on a form to appear in. There were heroes there, and a small child, so she didn't want to look too scary for them. Getting attacked would be quite a bother, an annoyance she didn't want to deal with right now. And so she chose something that she felt would fit in with the young and spry heroes of the area.

The young woman cut a portal through space with her purple scythe and stepped onto the pavement. She glanced around at the scene before her and settled her gaze on Sable, "Please don't kneel, my champion." Death noticed with a sigh that the gunshot had caused the local police to draw their weapons, which were now leveled at her torso. Lovely.

"Please no one waste ammo on me," she spoke up, "I am Lady Death, and I do not intend any harm on any of you mortal folk. Now then... Sable dear, you want these two to be brought back to life? You know I don't do so for free... are you alright with my cost of services?" Death knew the answer would be yes, or else she wouldn't have bothered to call in such a flashy and proper way. If the girl would just learn how to do so herself, she wouldn't have to ask... Death sighed... But if she learned it herself it would be more troublesome to her. She was always such a thoughtful little champion.

"Right, then. I will grant this, but it will mean you extra work," she stated, letting go of her scythe which floated beside her now unhindered, "Your first order of business will be to seek out others that deal with souls in the area. One such individual is known as Grave Speaker. See if she might aid you with the collection of souls. I will give you more information later on. You owe me for this, dear, but I can't seem to say no to you." Death walked up to the two bodies and touched them each on the head, "You all still need to catch their murderer, and these two will no doubt be rattled by their experience. Given the child's powers, some of you may want to stay with them to ensure their and others' safety."

Instead of resurrecting the two in the puddle of their own blood, Death walked to the side, to the edge of the police tape, and snapped her fingers. In an instant, their broken bodies were no longer there on the pavement, and their souls were alive and well again. She offered them a small smile as she walked back over to her tear in reality and left.

Louie stumbled and fell over from the sudden intensity of sensations, his mother barely able to keep herself on her feet, much less catch her child. The both of them began to cry, Vera silently, and Louie loudly sobbing like the five-year-old he was.

AXIOM

Axiom looks at the coins that Orpheus had given him and before he can have the chance to say 'Thanks', he watches as Orpheus leave. Axiom looked down at the coins and sighed with a smile. Another day where he wishes his armor had pockets. "Oh well. I'll just have to hold on to them tight." He thought to himself. Just then, he got an incoming call from his earpiece

"Axiom, we're going by to retrieve you. A situation has occurred, and it requires immediate help. Head towards the nearest clearing near you. Arrival time will be 5 minutes. Don't be late."

"Understood."
Axiom felt a tad upset he didn't atleast get to have his ala mode. Any soul would know he waited months to have this time to enjoy himself. But he couldn't complain. He met a too good men and helped save lives, that enough was just fine enough. What's a few extra months anyway? Axiom looked to Nexus and patted him on the shoulder "Thanks for your help. You did great helping these people escape. I hope you keep at it, you have the makes a real hero!" Axiom gives Nexus a thumbs up before departing from the scene to go meet his ride for his next mission.

The princess of drought

97101-drawing-artwork-desert-pilgrims-fantasy-city-staff-fantasy-art-digital-art.jpg

The monstrosity in human form before glass offered her no words, merely tilting his head before the book swung open and a blinding light consumed Glass.
Blistering heat was the first feeling that assaulted glass as she awoke in the back of a covered wagon, a white cloak donning her clothes. "Madam, The city is coming into view, I do not know why one such as yourself would travel to this dying land, but the coin is a coin. I can only take you as far as the gates. Inside those walls, we have no power. Madam, be careful." A man wearing a white cloak to block the sun announced as he guided the carriage. The land was barren and dry, the sun beating down upon the few civilians Glass could see without mercy. The citizens look famished, and many of them looked upon the carriage with begging eyes. As if silently begging for salvation, in this land abandoned by life. " I hope to see you again," the man said as the wagon stopped in front of the open gates. The inside of the city was not much better, from the looks of it this city was designed as if it was one giant water park, with fountains, aqueducts, beautifully designed pools, and waterways.... and yet all of them were empty and dry. Only dust flowed through them now, "Did you hear? the princess is performing the Sacred rite again at the ceremony square" An old wear man said as he rested in the shadows of the buildings. A young haggard man sighed "So? she's been performing it every day for the past goddamn year, It won't make a difference....." The man just sat next to the old man. Hiding from the raging sunlight above.

It was a windy day in LA as Byzanti stepped out of a plane in the airport. She had just got back from a concert last night in New York with her band. Byzanti had to fly ahead of her bandmates though because she had some sudden hero business to attend to. That and she’s been on tour recently and couldn’t do her hero work, but now that the tour has ended, she can get the ball rolling again in the hero department.

Byzanti looked at her scanner for the location of a museum robbery by a telekinetic villain, then looked at her manager carrying her luggage. “Please take my items to my villa, thank you. I have some business to attend to.” The suited man nodded and took her luggage. Byzanti then pressed a jewel on a necklace that she wears all the time that proceeded to transform her current outfit into her hero costume. She then made her wings visible and turned away from her manager. “Make sure dinner is ready by the time I get home, I’ll message you once this situation is handled. See ya!” And with that Zanti flew off, going to the location on the scanner.

A few moments later, Zanti arrived behind the museum. She didn’t want to be seen right away or else the pesky villain inside might try to escape, so through the back door it is. “Hello, may you let me in please? I’m here to handle the villain inside.” She said with a smile to the guard that was at the back door. The guard let her in without asking anything, as Zanti is very well known as a hero and a celebrity. “Thank you~”

Zanti stepped down the hallway quietly and went in the direction of someone maniacally laughing. As soon as Zanti stepped into the hallway, she spotted the source of the laughter. It was a purple haired girl with a floating stuffed animal, and many jewels going into her backpack. Zanti calmly stepped into the doorway of the room that the villain was in. Zanti approaced the girl with a kind smile. “Hello there~ Would you please unhand that diamond, miss? I believe stealing is against the law." Zanti clasped her hands together calmly. "If you don't put those jewels back, I'm afraid I'll have to force you to. We don't want that now do we?”

Shard sighed as he saw the woodwork pile in. Slowly turning to Seiva before he saw her just walk off, he pinched his brow in utter annoyance. ".......How the hell does this place manage to be the meeting spot for all the idiots of LA....." he complained to himself before walking into the back of the store to begin cooking. Epherial meanwhile zoomed between the customers, happily greeting them while giving out menus. "gods, angels, demons and superheroes... whats next" jezzabelle mumbled to herself as she took a swig of win from a bottle. Grune awkwardly sweeping the front of the store in their full plate armor as usual.

Thyris tilted her head before smiling sweetly at the little child.... then blinked and remembered she didnt fucking know japanese... and slowly turned to the demon. Scile just translated it with a smile. Thyris blushing before happily hugging her and Sato "Oh of course! I'm happy to be your auntie!"

daltli1-2588b141-0217-4b04-b241-6f8b581c315e.pngAranea tilted her head while observing the girl... clad in armor her emotions were hard to read. But honestly, aranea couldn't care less. This obsession was solely that of her sisters... but... she had only just begun her investigation into Unagi and already a few things were suspicious.... Why was 42 the only unagi to take up the blade at such a young age.... 14 years old is hardly old enough to be sent out as the Blade of japan.... A few things didn't add up, but she couldn't be sure. Sighing she grabbed a piece of paper and began writing names, addresses and personalities on it. Folding it into a paper shuriken before tossing it at Hannya. "Here... the immediate ones you could deal with in L.A. They can all be considered blade masters to some degree. But.... Avoid the hero known as kali... she's a monster beyond normal evil, Trust me......and... I don't know the full story...but talk to Unagi a bit about her early years as Unagi.... A few things don't make sense... and I'm beginning to smell some fucking bullshit about it... My contacts in japan are slow with info though... " She added before shaking her hand. and suddenly pulling her in close to whisper in her ear. "They may have dishonored the previous Unagis wishes...." before smiling and letting go. "have a wonderful time in LA...... Its full of psychopaths and idiots..." And with that.... she just collapsed into her beanbag chair pulling out a gamestation. The conversation fully done and ended.

Rita.pngRita was filling her backpack with the jewels absolutely ecstatic. Until some weird lady came in asking her to stop. Tilting her head confused as to how she was standing normally. She looked around before leaning down. "Hey... Gravity is still increased, right? You're not just lying on the ground?" She asked as the civilians hurriedly nodded their heads. She took out her phone and calmly snapped a picture of the lady. Before googling the image, "Byzanti.... A class hero....... of course, it had to be an A-class... It's never just a c class or a b class." She put her phone back in her backpack before she looked at the giant gemstone in her hand, "You realize it's ironic to complain about a villain stealing from a museum. When over 80 percent of objects in museums were stolen from their original countries?" She spoke as she hovered backward, "Anyway.......No." she pulled the fire alarm causing the sprinklers to go off before swinging her hand up. Reversing gravity in the room, the civilians were flung towards the ceiling at a speed which they wouldn't get too hurt. " Better catch them! they'll drop the moment I leave the museum!" she said before getting the fuck out of there, hovering across the floor towards the front exit at a decently fast speed. Heroes and to save civilians, it was the right thing to do so, of course, they'd do it! The perfect way to escape! You got this Rita, your gonna successfully do a crime all by yourself! You'll be feared as a villain! Rita was so lost in her delusions of fame and acceptance... She failed to look behind her to see if the hero actually stayed.

Glass

For a moment, Glass wondered if she had had another ill-timed bout of heart failure. She was in one place, blacked out, then woke up to a different environment than she passed out in... that was usually the only time such a thing happened. But it was clear in relatively short order that she was not in her pyramid. She didn't have long to figure out what was going on, but thankfully she had all the clues to do so. "Right. Thank you for what aid you have offered, then," she said, glancing around the desperate, sad environment.

"I will return from this place, I assure you," Glass reassured, running over what she knew, and more importantly, didn't know. The most important question was a simple one: the water spirit. Why was it not responding? The first major step was to find out... but before she could she had to know what kind of culture she was interacting with.

Thankfully, it seemed as though it wouldn't take much to work the minds of those in this sad, broken place. Finding an isolated place, she copied the clothing that was seen around the town and altered some key features of her face and body. She was familiar with this process by now; one advantage of her skillset was that she could change how others perceive her rather well. Putting on a cognitive filter that would make people see her as local and unremarkable to their memory, she set about her first task. She found someone who was isolated, and approached.

"Excuse me, I have a few questions..." she asked, a wave of the hand filling the air with a dust that could serve as a mild, relaxing hallucinogen. It should help her shape their memory when she was done. As if their starvation-addled mind would be difficult... but it was better to be safe than sorry. "You should tell me about how our culture feels about magic. Especially water magic and summoning of nature spirits among commoners and foreigners," she said in a relaxed, conversational tone.

Ada
“Oh. Right,” Ada mumbled, a little embarrassed. Not just about that but about this whole thing. She felt so worked up. It was unlike her. Sure, she was excitable, but she was usually level headed when it came to most things.

She smiled, trying not to cry again, even if she really wanted to, “Yeah… thank you…” She had a mother. Maybe. Who knew if she was still alive. And would she want her? Hell if she did want her that would make things a complete mess… Her heart felt so cloudy. This sucked.

“Uh… yeah. Yeah. Let’s go… bother that David kid again. It’s good to fight someone at the same level as me. Better for training,” she said, but her voice didn’t carry any enthusiasm. She felt empty inside, one arm hugging the other. “Lemme go grab my gear I guess,” she said again, walking off, practically dragging her feet. For once she wasn’t even excited to put on the gear. She just wanted today to be a bad dream.

Catherine
Catherine smiled wide at the two of them, “Oh you’re very sweet. I appreciate your consideration.” She reached into her nigh bottomless purse and pulled out a notepad, which she handed to him, “Don’t mind the chicken scratch. My notes get a bit messy at times, but there’s my most recent information on sigils and the sort. Always learning, so I go through notebooks from time to time. I would like it back eventually but I have copies so it’s no big deal if you hang onto it for a while.”

“As for any questions I might have… oh, I don’t know. I guess I’m mostly wondering what your typical day looks like. Are you in a position where you spend a lot of time at your desk? Do you have to use a weapon often? How much do you deal with non-powered vs powered people? Do you deal with cultists or monsters more commonly? That sort of thing. And I’d also just like to know more about you two. You seem like such fine folks,” Catherine chuckled happily, “After all, you seem to have a happy marriage and such a sweet heart for other people. That’s not something you can buy.”

Guardian Kallen

1660610409311.png
The sudden twinge of irritation that she had felt before when Ronin spoke was starting to build - first because he decided to try to pluck Sagii out of the air - you didn't do that with someone else's best buddy one could ever ask for, but he was acting like he had the right to this. The problem with that line of thinking, as far as she was concerned, was that it wasn't his place. So with a shake of her head and a holstering of her weapon, Kallen began her approach. If she was able to get close enough, Kallen's only plan was to put one arm around his shoulder and gesture to a spot no more than twenty feet apart, but the sudden ringing blast of a single rifle shot had broken any semblance of her previous intent. Instead, she found herself moving - even to her the world became a blur as her form zipped from where it was planted to just behind one of the nearby police vehicles, her trusty Handcannon firmly choked in her hands and leveled at the source... and she paused.

If she didn't have half of the trigger discipline she developed over the countless years, she was almost sure she would've put a round through Sable, but it was only a flash of though within her circuitry before she looked up, and then right back to...

To...

Fuckin' hell. The one thing every Guardian dodged, ducked, dipped, dived, and dodged was standing right there, and every whirring and moving part of her froze entirely for a few seconds. Kallen didn't need to be told that Sable had summoned Death itself onto the scene, but for what? She hadn't been paying attention and found herself cursing under her mask. Was the woman here to take the kid and his mother? Was she going to go after someone like herself after that business was sorted?? Every synthetic synapse in her system was practically screaming for her to move, but the Light that formed her soul was statue-still... until she finally listened in, and not even a few seconds later, the kid wonder and Vera were back and crying. Sable had made a deal with Death itself to bring back the two people she was about to go to war over, and everything in her processes changed in an instant... It didn't mean she wasn't going to hunt down that scraggy little shit that did them in - no, she was going to make sure they got what was coming to them, but Louie and Vera shouldn't be in the loop for this kind of thing. They were civilians - and Louie was still a kid.

"Ronin," Kallen started as she slammed her weapon into its holster and began her approach once more. The insults and the sarcasm would drop from her tone, entirely replaced by something colder - almost mechanical as each syllable slipped out of the filter of her helmet. Her right hand lifted to prod him lightly in the chest as she moved to no closer than three feet away from him. "Until I'm back, I'm asking you to stay with them. If you think you have the chops to deal with some nutcase with a knife, then you should at least be competent enough to do this for me.

"Besides, the kid has a thing for Heroes like you. He has a thing for heroes like the Wolf and - I'm guessing on this, but Sable, too. If you asked him about any one hero, he'd probably be able to tell you every good thing they've ever done, and I'd like to keep it that way. As for folks like me, well, we ain't got room for Heroes. While Heroes keep the peace and save the innocent, there's folks like me who do the dirty work. We don't play hero where I come from cuz we just ain't good at it, so do me a favor; do what Heroes do and get the kid and Vera someplace safe - call a buddy or two if you think ya need the extra hands, and I'll do what I do best. They need a Hero now, Ronin - not a 'Slinger."

With that, and not a single word more, Kallen tilted her head at Samantha to get the search underway as she re-checked her gear again. The kid would be safe if Ronin did his job, and Kallen could do what she needed without worrying about their safety.

(Also, clarification: Kallen does not attempt to make contact until poking wigi wigi 's "Ronin" due to how I imagine the timeline of events occurring)

RONIN
1656875492345.png

"she really just put me here to protect the kids knowing full well the sheer number of cops and heroes here would make a comic book universe looks small" ronin aid to himself , but outloud .
oh god the kid , he's alive , death itself revived him for what seemed to him like extra hours , is human life that worthless to god like figures , he was glad the kid's alive but the drive to find whoever murdered him is gone , he would still want to beat that man till gis eyes bled but it was kind of a lost cause .
"give him a broken bone from me robot girl"
ronin tightened his mask before turning back to the heores behind him.
"someone should probably go help her"

Now that they struck up the band and started the party, there wasn't much more to it that they had to prep for. Roughneck and Thumper were already finishing their rounds to slip out of their vehicles in both the front and back of the warehouse while Troll began working the crowds. To the civilians that would be subject to their barking orders, the voices were heavily distorted, and each and every one of them sounded the exact same to the finest detail. It'd be understandable if the ordeal was intimidating - they'd made it their entire modus operandi from the fire-ready stances they took as Troll's team-lead covered the civilian retreat to just how they barked their orders.

"Drop everything! Hands on your heads! Move to the furthest coastline!"

These orders were, though varied to force the civilians to listen, repeated multiple times, and once Troll had all the civilians in one place and were sure they were unarmed, two of them them pulled what looked to be a grenade and tossed it into the crowd. Before they'd have the chance to run, however, the grenades suddenly expanded before two half-bubble shield slammed down from above around them, one layered over the other. This meant that the two of them wouldn't have their dome shields should Leash forces make contact, but the other two of Troll were already working on their secondary mode of cover.

Pulling from their pack what looked to be large rods, both of them measured out in paces with their backs turned to the crowd before spiking them deep into the cement and backing away. The rods would quickly expand from their point of deployment and slam into each other to create a three-foot wall which both would take cover behind, and both kept their rifles trained on the warehouse.

This is the hill they were ordered to die on until civilian exfil arrived, and they'd follow that order to the seventh layer of hell.

Meanwhile, Roughneck and Thumper were moving to their first staging area with the last of their vehicle's drifting momentum, deciding that the only exits that existed were the ones they would have to take - one in the far back and one in the front next to the large service door that served as the largest exit. Three seconds later and they were in, with Iron already having scaled the building and taking crouched positions near opposing skylights with the clearest views of the building's span.

"Roughneck reporting - positive infil,"

"Thumper reporting - positive infil-"

Comms chatter was kept simple as each team called out their positions in a closed frequency, though nothing could be heard outside their helmets as they did so. As they had, one of team Roughneck stepped a quarter of the way out of concealment to roll what looked like a cylindrical grenade out into the middle of the large room before it fizzled... and appeared to do nothing. Each team lead's HUD within the confines of the warehouse, however, would shift as coordinate-like gridlines filled their view and it would ping whatever nooks, crannies, and cracks the sonar-like grenade could point out. It would ping every five seconds for the next thirty.

"Get to work," Thumper's lead called. "No way they have only one floor for a trafficking op - work the room, watch your corners, and find the VIPs."

And with that, they were off, each team moving from their initial cover to slip into another, working around the perimeter of the floor. They didn't have time to waste - if they could find a lead to the VIP's, this thing was as good as done.

Troll wouldn't be able to move until civilian exfil had arrived, which was hanging up the other half of Iron, but it wasn't like eight of Ms. Adler's best grunts couldn't do the job with ten men.

King gripped the chair he was sitting in. A low growl escaping his throat as he looked up. "I followed Them because I believed ina better world for those with powers... But my loyalty does not lie with them... It lies with new Sariton.... You have my word to the agreement." He said solemnly, he did not know if his words were even worth his life. The knowledge he had was little, he had been to a few bases. He had met an executive when he was recruited. But he was one who did not pry into others secrets. Odin had agreed with him, that brought him a small semblance of hope. And with that, he began speaking about the areas he knew. About the boy with the power to resurrect as well. If... this entity desired him to prevent from helping OA... he was slightly thankful, forcing him to do these things, making him a slave.... it ate at king as it was hypocrisy to all he stood for.

KALI AND SHERM

Sherm stared as he listened to Morgan.... the calm, concise words that spoke only what they needed to. They were almost robotic in a way, and as he heard her point, he gulped. Don't say it, he thought to himself, please don't confirm the fears and doubts that have always built up in the back of his mind, please, give him ignorance.... But he couldn't say anything as Avro crushed it, everything he feared, no, everything he knew but refused to accept came forward, she was family... he was in a daze, in a myriad of his own swirling thoughts as he just stared at kali, whose expression didn't even falter. In fact, her fake smile...seemed genuine now, even as Secretary held a knife to her throat. Even as Secretary's assistant pointed a gun at Kalis's head, all that could be seen on her face, was the genuine smile of a young lady. " I do so wait for your plan, My life has become a mire of tedium annoyances. To expose me to the world for my cruel nature gifted unto me by the world....." her smile got even larger as if it seemed like she was in ecstasy. Licking her own lips "I wonder... if anyone that comes to hunt me will make me feel." she said as the room felt a chill, but as quick as it appeared, it vanished with Kali's horrible smile. "The songbird, I see... an interesting plan... But I wonder if the woman in front of us will accept it," she said taking a sip of her tea. As she was about to begin Sherm finally spoke up. "why...." he asked. Kali tilted her head, "why did you do it!?" Sherm demanded, but Kali just looked at him, and her smile dropped, "Brother, would you be happy if I had a reason? If my justifications for senseless slaughter met your criteria, would you be fine with what I did? If you approved of the force behind my actions, would you look past the murder of your lover? If you are able to ignore and accept slaughter, genocide, and massacres solely because you are doing it for the sake of the world. I think you lose the right to judge me as a monster, No matter the reasons. Both our hands would be stained red. Isn't that right Miss?" she asked turning her head to Morgan. "Stone face you may be, but I know the weight that lives can carry, especially upon those who believe in some self righteous goal, tell me... Have you taken a life yourself, or have you hidden behind others to keep your hands clean to act justified?" She asked taking another sip of her tea. "Ah, I seem to be out. Secretary, please refill it." She said leaning back in her chair as if she was relaxing at a family dinner.
