The merc was silent as the boy fought the urge to have his mental breakdown right then and there, face neutral and uncaring beneath his suit's mask. "Believable enough to work. That's fine then. That's not an 'I guess' statement, Sean. If you intend to keep seeing Ada and breathing, you're going to need to learn a thing or two on how not to be as useless as a bag of bricks. Because right now, that's what you are. You're big and heavy to carry around, and you're no good without being some effort put into you to make you good." The sound of the weapons safety clicking could be heard as he holstered the pistol, Casey speaking cooly as ever. "How am I going to whip you into shape? By drilling it into your skull, that's how. By the time I'm done, you'll either be dead, or wish you were dead but at least be able to defend yourself. If I have my way, lesson one will involve an actual whip."

The man grimaced as he barely held her attacks at bay, clearly on the losing side of this battle. Each attack was barely deflected from causing wounds, the one to his midsection even getting so close as to cut his clothing. He wasn't able to attack in kind at all, especially given the torrent of lightning that constantly glancing off the barrier he had to keep erected lest he turns into a fulgurite shish kebab.

Hearing Japanese so suddenly stunned the girl into silence. She stared at James like he was a god himself and in short order felt herself start to cry. It was so relieving to hear Japanese. The girl picked her up into her arms and she clung to her, not minding now that she knew these people were safe for sure. She enjoyed being held tight as she cried and the woman went around collecting civilians. Her methods were... weird... but she was in no position to argue about it. If it worked, then good. She hoped she wouldn't have to be knocked out though...

The OA man couldn't get any leeway with the goddess directly. There were other people here as well, one taking care of the victims, two managing some sort of shielding, and then there was a man left alone now. He seemed to be giving orders. If he couldn't make any leeway with her then perhaps he needed to come at this from a different angle! He took the energy that his shield had been gathering from her lightning and used it all at once to burst outward and knock her away. It only needed to work a little for it to be enough for his goal.

In a blur of wind, only half-corporeal, the man flew to James and took out a dagger to hold against his neck, intending to hold the man hostage.

Though he had heard of being summoned for a higher purpose, Mason had always imagined that would be something a bit more... gentle? Air burnt his lungs without warning. He stumbled on the concrete like he had just jumped from a height. Those that saw his sudden appearance scrambled away, not wanting to get involved with whatever super shenanigans this was sure to be. He was dressed in a simple suit.

He stood, disoriented, and found himself staring at his hands. They were smooth, unaged, and pale as though he hadn't been outside in months. His brows knitted and he coughed, clearing his throat as one of his hands covered his mouth with a fist. Where was he? His eyes flitted about, surprisingly calm, simply taking things in. None of his surroundings were familiar. The direction people were driving told him he wasn't in his home country. Speaking English... was this the United States? How odd. Whatever had brought him here felt holy, he knew that. It wasn't the disgusting feeling the demon that killed him left him with. They had also left him with a polite request, "Teacher. Guide the siblings and help Natalie."

So... Natalie lived, then? Good. That warmed his old heart. How long had it been? How did she manage to get away? That beast of a demonic creature was something he was unprepared for. He felt as though he failed her. Even in his afterlife, he felt guilt over that. Some of that eased knowing she was still alive. He'd have to give her a hard time about giving him no rest. Mason felt a small smile tug at the corners of his lips. Of any reason to get dragged back to this world, he supposed little Natalie wasn't too bad.

His focus turned to a hotel he stood outside of. If he was brought here, then perhaps it was to the right location. He could feel his age was... not correct. While his bones didn't creak, he felt a little bitter about that. Convenient, good for work, yes, but... he was sure he looked like a brat. Touching his face as he went inside the lobby, his fingers found lines of a scar that connected around like cracks in glass. Strange. Something had changed about his body and not just his age.

After speaking with the receptionist and convincing her to give him a room number, he headed up the elevator. A mirror in the interior allowed him to peek at his changed appearance. His eyes were piercing, bright blue like crushed ice, with sternness in them that came from experience. So much brighter of a blue than they ever were in life. And then that scar on his left cheek... it glowed with a dim white light. His hair was still white as though with age, and somewhat long and unkempt. He could accept that he looked like a handsome kid... but just that.

Alone, he allowed himself a groan-like sigh of frustration. He looked like a teen boy. Wasn't this a bit younger than necessary!? He brushed his fingers through his hair with a quiet grumble as the elevator came to a stop on his floor. This was where Natalie was supposedly staying. Rather expensive, wasn't it?

He gave the door in question three firm raps with the back of his knuckle and folded his arms behind his back. He decided to tease his pupil slightly, partially in an effort to not give in to becoming emotional, "Living large on the church's dime, Natalie?"

Mason felt himself getting excited to see her again. Would she even recognize him like this? How much had she grown? Was she well?

Gaia.pngGaia
Gaia chuckled, hands folding in her lap as she looked at the human man, “We tend to work through intermediaries, yes. The OA’s particular attack made it so that retrieving their souls from oblivion was too difficult for any of my champions that are in the area to handle. There are only a couple that could even do so on Earth as a whole at the moment. It’s not that much of a pain for me to get involved when it bothers Death this much. She’s so very restrained compared to me. Losing souls outright like that… the disturbances with the resurrections… it’s all been quite upsetting for her. She likes order to things, doesn’t do too well with chaos.”

She smiled sweetly talking about her dear friend, but her smile dropped as she sighed, “Ah, well. I suppose you’d prefer I take this a bit more seriously.” Gaia’s energy leaked out of her form as she adjusted herself and sat up straight, crossing one leg over the other. Her arms folded in front of her. Though his mind was safe from any discomfort, the sheer amount of energy she was exuding was enough to put pressure on him. She was careful not to kill the little human, the cardboard being that he was, so delicate despite his mind’s imperviousness, but it was undoubtably suffocating.

“Business. We have business here with each other. There are some events that will take place soon with our respective champions. There has been the reality-tearing efforts of the OA. There are people that have managed to catch our attention, like you. There are a number of reasons. The one that is likely of the most interest to you, beyond the OA which I’ve already talked about, is twofold. A meeting of champions and concepts using that meeting to have a meeting of our own. There also will be a tournament… but… that is of little concern. A game, that’s all,” she explained, watching Adam to see if he would shrink from the excess of energy or if he would hold her gaze.

sean.jpgSean
Sean felt himself shaking. He couldn’t stop his hands. He was so utterly terrified of Casey, and for good reason. He balled his fists up and stood, cementing his resolve even while his stomach wanted to leap out his throat. “I’ll do my best to learn from you. I want to make sure I can help protect her. I don’t want her to ever go through that again if I’m with her. I… can’t help but feel like she got hurt because she was protecting me. The look she gave me… I… Sir I’m scared of you but I’m more afraid of having to see that again.”

He lowered his gaze to the floor, “I’m sorry I’m so useless in a fight. Even though I have such strong powers… I should be a powerhouse in a fight… but… like you said, I’m just a bag of bricks weighing people down.”

“If… if you’re not going to kill me, sir,” he paused, tensing, “Then will we be starting training immediately?” Sean still felt like his heart was trying to escape and run away. He wanted to run, to use his powers and have a freak out moment and forget about all of this. But… He shut his eyes tight. The image of Ada giving him a reassuring smile while being tortured was burned into his mind. He couldn’t let that happen again. No matter what life she was in, or how scary her dad was, or how much it threatened his life… He decided he would stick by her.

“Oh,” he added, “I um… I’m a mage… so… I mean my specialty is spacial magics but, I know a bit of healing. I could heal the wounds you stitched up on Ada, if you wanted. The fact that they were tended to would make it much easier. It’d still be sore but I could lessen the pain and speed up the natural healing process. O-only if you want, Sir….”

Havoc couldn’t help the subtle giggle as he asked if she had skimped out. “How dar you think so low of me!” She said with a playful gasp and skipped after him. Watching as he ate her look grew a little bit colder when he mentioned that she had competition but quickly pushed it away with a big smile. “Oh come on now what? I can’t come see one of my favorite people?” She asked before her look went into a somewhat of an uh oh state like she had just told him a secret before chuckling nervously to Bryne. She couldn’t help but squirm a little and quickly thought of something else to say.

“a-and besides you really think people are tryna compete with me? Maybe if you weren’t so care free about meeting psychos and crazies you wouldn’t have me stalkin ya.” She said with a cute poke of her tongue at him

the girl stood almost unbelievably still as her dead eyes stared into the girls as she whistled. The tune She whistled out Echoed around them for longer than it should have and once it finally died Overwatch finally got a signal that the girl was actually alive in the form of a slight hang of her head to the left before the girls creepy smile grew a little more. “Hello there. And who might you be my little red flower?” She asked in an uncannily innocent tone for the clearly creepy and scary situation Overwatch found herself in.

Still the creepy girl continued her quiet smile a while longer before the girls feet slowly lifted from the ground. Her rags floating in a ghost like fashion as Isla Slowly creeped forward. Floating past the bow without a care of it soon Overwatch would find the girls spindly arms wrapped around her mid section. The girls head buried in Overwatch a shoulder as she spoke. “Thank you my sweet.” She said happily. At the same time though the commotion from the castle now behind Overwatch continued to rise and grow till the city seemed alive in the night.

Natalie Brenton

The trip back to the hotel was marked with conversation here and there, Natalie shooting down the idea of using one of Darren's family's houses a score-shattering fifteen times before Tracy gave up trying to pursue the idea. Normally she'd be more than happy to have a chance to absolutely murder Darren's parents and uncle, but given the whole...everything right now, she had a different priority. Natalie was sprawled out on the bed, arms spread eagle at her sides, as she stared at the ceiling while the MacAlisdair siblings enjoyed a conversation at the hotel bedroom table. "Today can't get any insane, Darren. It's not allowed. I'm making it law now." Of course, no sooner had she said that was there a knock at the door, the young woman sitting upright. "Comin, coming. Darren, did you order room service?" The punk-rock-looking woman opened the door with a bored yawn, staring at the young man on the other side. "Can I help ya?" As she listened to him speak she fell deathly silent. His soul...why did his soul say that name? Why was he here? "Father Mason?" The woman's voice was soft and almost weak, unlike anything Darren had ever heard. It was like someone had carved her open and let out every ounce of air out of her lungs, tears pinpricking at her eyes. "Is that you? You...you..." It all happened so fast, her hand clenching into a fist as she suddenly threw a sucker punch towards his chin. "YOU BASTARD! YOU ABSOLUTE BELLEND, WHY'D YOU GO AND DIE LIKE THAT!?"

Shard was putting fresh Brioche in the oven before his eyes shot open wide standing straight up his eyes turned around. Looking over the counter. Only to see, a small girl. A rather bratty one at that asking for food. "Child. where are your parents" he asked as he took a muffin from his pantry walking around the counter crouching down to look at her. handing her the muffin. "child, are you lost?" he asked calmly while gesturing for epherial to come over, he was better with kids, due to fact he was a manchild himself.

Visvian stood still and watched with her usual blank stare as the man turned around, the bird demons magic having worn off a while ago her tail and horns where plain as day once again though she didn’t know she should hide them. He turned only to immediately ask where her parents were which honestly even if she didn’t have amnesia her answer would be the same. Her parents left her before she had even hatched like all dragons of her type do. No need to protect that which can protect itself right? Either way she didn’t have time to respond as he came around and her eyes set on the muffin in his hands. It got a different expression out of the girl as she smiled big and raised her arms in the air with joy for a moment before reaching out to the muffin.

Clearly happy as he handed it to her she brought it to her mouth with both hands and took a small bite at first. Savoring the flavor as her eyes closed and felt she could die happy, a feeling all food she had been given had done. Once that bite was done she took another, this time easily eating half the muffin in one bite before she decided to respond. In a casual blank answer she responded to him. “I don’t have a mama and papa.” She replied to Shard before finishing off the muffin in one more bite. With one or two crumbs still on her face her arms reached out to him again as she decided she wanted more. “May I have more please?”

Finally finally finally oh finally!! She had almost lost hope this day would ever come. Her beautiful masters return to the world after so long. As she came up upon the door to where her lord was staying the 6”9 vampires lips curled into an overly happy smile. She wore a what she would call modest set of vampiric clothes from Arenike’s old guards and a sword that used to be in Arenike’s personal “armory”. The same collar hung around her neck as it had all those years ago and she couldn’t help but gently bring a hand to touch the blood gem. “My master I’ve come.” She whispered happily to it before reaching out and gently knocking the metal gauntlet against the door with a psychotic excited smile. Her other hand resting comfortably on the hilt of the sword.

Father Mason
Darren looked up from his phone at the door, "Huh? Not me. Sis?"

"I feel like having my throat un-throttled, thanks. I’m not touching jack shit."

"Fair enough. Not us, Nat," he said with a shrug. The sound Natalie made got his attention again, though. She sounded so pained. Who the hell was at the- and now she was shouting...

Father Mason narrowly dodged her sudden sucker punch, sidestepping as decades of trained movement kicked in. He grabbed her wrist and flipped her over his shoulder into the hallway… with a bit more force than he meant to. Whoops. It looked like this new body would take some getting used to.

“I’m glad you’re still alive and well, Natalie,” his too-young voice said, his own eyes wet, “It’s rude to throw a punch to say hello, but I guess that’s just your calling card. I’d prefer a hug instead.”

Mason offered her a hand up, “We should head inside before we cause a scene. We’ve got a lot of catching up to do. A lot of stories to trade.”

He moved inside after what probably ended up being some form of aggressive hugging on Nat’s part if he had to guess, and stared at the two kids at the table. Mason chuckled grimly, “These two must be Tracy and Darren. I do believe I was sent back to be a teacher of sorts. Well… I assure you two. Neither one of you can be worse than Natalie here was. Especially at times… rebellious little twerp. I’ll get you two into shape.”

He bowed slightly, “I am Father Mason. Pleasure to meet you both.”

The two of them were a little slack-jawed and confused. Darren furrowed his brow and spoke up first, “Uhhhh… thank… you?” Tracy nodded along with her brother.

“We can start more formally in a while. I have a lot to catch up on with your friend… mentor?” Mason glanced to Nat to confirm, “With Natalie here. She was my apprentice.”

That statement, along with his appearance at the moment, got both the siblings to check out mentally. Too weird. Today was TOO WEIRD! They would just give up trying to make sense!

Shard stared at the small child as epherial calmly skated over. Deep down is his bloody spine, he could feel, this child would be nothing but trouble. "I see. No parents, Is anyone taking care of you child?" he asked as he took out a whole tray of decadent sweets he had prepared earlier for a centerpiece. A strange child with horns and a tail, Shard would have assumed demon but it was clearly not the case from the lack of demonic energy he felt. This was something else entirely. "Hmmm, Epherial watch the child for a moment." He said calmly snapping a picture of the kid on his phone before walking into the back room and going to the missing childrens section of the police website. For once these mortals were useful in these situations. Epherial simply stood next to the child as he watched her presumably devour the tray of sweets

James and Sato

James rubbed his temples in silence, veins throbbing with the early stages of a burst blood vessel or something of that nature, he wasn't a damn doctor. "Didn't need work, I just need time dammit." So long as Scile could have caused enough pressure to the surface of that water dome it would have given them a few spare seconds before it turned into a total slurry so he could come up with a new plan. Sato was going to bring an entire mountain down, he couldn't remember the last time he saw her this enraged...actually he could, and it wasn't good then either. Glancing at Thyris he gave a nod, motioning towards the large pools of water forming from Sato's torrential downpour. "Sato is creating more than enough ammo, can you support her? We need to wrap this fight up before it all falls apart. And with the demon helping for now, we can allocate resources and I don't have to get her involved." If he summoned Hignar and could get her to listen this fight would be over in moments, but that was like asking him to draw a lucky number one out of a jar of five thousand numbers.

"Your stamina will run out eventually mortal. You can't hold out against me!" Sato continued to harass her prey, for at this point that was perhaps the best term for what this was. It was a predator wearing down its prey before tearing its throat out, but given it was Sato...one could only hope for such a mercifully quick death. The burst of energy had been unexpected, and it served the goal of sending the goddess back a foot or two, just out of reach of slicing at her quarry again. It all happened so fast...James held in a hostage situation. At the sensation of a blade against his neck James looked out of the corner of his eye, going so far as to lean against the blade against his throat. "Skip the 'slap and tickle' routine and just slit my throat if you're going to do it, alright? With any luck I'll stay dead this time." Displaying a total lack of self preservation in a situation that absolutely demanded it existed, James eyes went wide as an almost ethereal howl could be heard on the wind. "How dare you touch that waste of space! If anyone'll kill him, it's me!" "Come again?" Before James could get a verbal answer Sato simply blinked out of existence, godly energy used to move at hertop speed. A sharp pain erupted in his gut, a crimson rose sprouting in his clothes as he slowly looked down...Sato and stabbed him straight through the stomach, while also stabbing the man right behind him in the process. "Now suffer." From the tip of the blade buried into the male behind James came a quick gust of wind, similar to how a hornet knife functioned when stabbed into a target. Sato had effectively mortally wounded her summoner and 'friend' for what could be considered a guaranteed kill.

Detective Marshall

The detective nodded slowly as Life itself explained the situation, continuing to write in his notepad patiently despite how otherworldly this experience could be considered. "Not surprising she values order, Concepts are essentially building blocks of the universe." At the comment of take things a bit more seriously Adam glanced up, straightening in his chair as Life began to actually host a 'serious' conversation. Though he didn't feel any adverse effects on his mind, his entire body bristled with goosebumps, and it became a conscious effort to breathe with all of the pressure suddenly filling the room. Despite the discomfort, Adam acted as if nothing was wrong with the current situation, stone-faced as ever and calm in body language. "Ma'am, with all due respect. Humanities concept of a 'game' and anything of a higher powers concept of a 'game' is cause for due concern from me. But with that said, interesting place to meet if you think about it. Any place on earth and you lot picked L.A. I'm not one to judge but surely there are better places to meet. Tourist season was last month." Despite the situation at hand, there was a bit of dry and gruff humor at the end of his statement, eyes focused on hers. "In a hypothetical sense then, what would be enough for you lot to be directly involved in anything?"

He was silent for a few moments, focusing solely on Sean. "She got hurt because of our lifestyle, don't flatter yourself. It was bound to happen eventually. The experience was unfortunate, but it was bound to happen at one point or another. I just expected it to happen when she was older." As Sean started to lower his gaze, Casey's cool voice could be heard again, icy in temperature. "Look a man in the face when you speak to him. It makes you look weak otherwise. People will exploit that. Even if you're scared to the point of pissing yourself, you hold your ground and you look them in the face. Your training will be starting after Ada gets rest, it'll be good for her to watch." At the otherwise kind suggestion of healing Ada's wounds Casey shook his head, arms crossed across his chest. "No. I don't like seeing her hurt, but this is a lesson to her as well. She has to learn how to hold herself while patched up, life has no shortcuts. She'll be fine. Are we clear?"

Natalie Brenton

A soft wheezing noise escaped the young woman as she was flipped onto her back, the back of her head nailing the carpeted hallway with a loud thud. Stars danced in her eyesight for a moment as she stumbled upright. Damn, what she wouldn't give to have SoulFlare's resistance to pain and damage by default. "Also rude to go and fekken die, you absolute-" what followed was perhaps one of the most prolific 'insults' in the British dictionary...and one of the most taboo in the English. Wrapping her arms around Mason she lifted him up, squeezing him tight before dropping him and making her way into the bedroom, shutting the door behind her. As soon as the siblings started to space out Natalie started over, grabbing Darren by the front of his shirt in classic school yard 'pay attention to me' fashion. "Darren, I swear to God himself, you and your sister are not spacing out anymore today. I let it slide earlier, but If I have to deal with THIS-" she pointed to Mason to emphasize her point before continuing. "So do you two! I can't hurt you, but as God as my witness I will strip you both down to your birthday suits, tie you both up in this long hair of yours, and dangle ya from a flagpole in front of all of L.A! I need you here for this dammit!" There wasn't any real venom in her voice, but there was certainly an alarming level of honesty in her tone as she released Darren, stepping back and rounding on Mason. "And you! WHy are you here!? How did you get here!?"

Sean forced himself to look up at the skull mask when he was commanded to. He was softer when talking about his daughter. If he wasn't absolutely terrified, he'd think it was kinda sweet. It wasn't a simple yes or no, or a shut up, or whatever. Concerning Ada, there was explanation. Sean nodded firmly, "Y... Yes sir. No healing this. Look you in the face. And... what happened was an eventuality..."

"Eventuality or not, sir... I don't want to be a burden. So my point is... is still the same... sir...," he faltered, swallowing hard, "I have the feeling I'll need that extra motivation to get through this." Whatever this man considered training was going to be hell. That was a certainty. He didn't know what was supposed to happen now, though. Who knew how long she'd sleep for? Was he going to get tied up until then? He was really fucking tired of getting tied up.

After only a short fifteen minutes, Ada wandered back around. She looked very grumpy, and opened the door to stare at her dad, "Can't get back to sleep. Too sore and now I'm too awake. Stupid body and wounds and..." she continued to grumble to herself. Ada gave a loud huff, rather indicative of a teen, and folded her arms, "Whatever. I'm awake now. Took like four ibuprofen for good measure. I hurt like a bitch. God, I'm so sore. Are you done having a talk yet?" She put one hand up over her head and stretched to one side, then swapped and did the other, letting out a soft groan of pain as she did so.

"I'm lucky you're so good at stitching. Popping any of these would suck," she muttered, then smirked, "Oh, hey Daddy. I just thought of something. You finally have a chance to train someone like grandpa did." She laughed softly at the thought, like some inside joke, and finally let her eyes rest on Sean, "I think it'll be pretty attractive to watch you sweat and get better at fighting. There's nothing better than hard work, Sean. It's a special sort of satisfaction. But then, I'm also a bit of an adrenaline junkie. Heh."

Sean managed a weak smile. He was so fucked. "Can I message my guards to let them know I'm ok before we start...?"

Ada laughed, "Oh, you've already scared the hell out of the poor boy. Yes message them, the sooner the better... no identifying information. Just say you're at my house. They don't need to know anything else. I hope you're a good student, Sean. It's much easier if you listen to what he says right off the bat. If you don't, you'll learn real quick why it's better to listen. So does that mean we're starting now, daddy? You'll do it with your suit off, right? At least at first? We don't wanna totally break him right off the bat."

Sean was shaking still as he took his phone out and gave the head guard a quick message, "Am fine. Sorry I ditched again. Don't panic. Hanging out with Ada at her house." He repeated what it said aloud to make sure it was okay before he sent it. "Th... thank you...," he muttered, swallowing again.

"For letting you send a message? Civilians are so weird, daddy. Just calm down, Sean. We're gonna train you and you're gonna get good at surviving. Gonna get good at being less scared too," she took his phone from him and tucked it in her own pocket so he wouldn't have it available to him later. Just in case. Ada yawned and looked at Casey, "This'll be fun to watch."

mason1.jpgMason, Darren, Tracy, and Adon
Mason's arms were politely folded behind him, watching as Natalie accosted the young man. Wait... was he considered a young man now? The thought was an unpleasant one. So much to get used to... Darren raised his hands in defense, "Okay okay! I'm present! No spacing out! Damn." He stood, un-ruffling his shirt with an ounce of frustration showing on his face. Why was this his problem?? Tracy stayed seated, but was at least watching now with focus.

Mason's hands came forward to give an unsure shrug, "I do believe God sent me back to aid you... I... am not sure why in this method, however... I appeared suddenly nearby, on the street. I heard a sweet voice that told me to help train these two hooligans."

Adon piped up, in her mind, I was sad learning about him, and you said he was a really good teacher! She was still cuddled up against Agas, but was clearly in a much better mood, I am sorry! I didn't really... think very hard about it. I should have. I seem to be a bit impulsive right now.

Unaware of the conversation, Darren moved forward and offered his hand to Mason, who took it with a polite smile, "My name's Darren MacAlisdair. A pleasure to meet you. This is my sister, Tracy."

"MacAlisdair, huh? Doesn't that mean you're the kid of a tycoon?" Darren nodded, and Mason gave a little surprised chuff, "Well you seem polite at least. Your sister less so. What's the problem with you? Apologies, I just don't want to beat around the bush."

Darren gave a smile halfway between a grimace, "We... well that's a complicated question. My family runs the Leash." That got another raised brow, "Yeah... so... I mean I don't like anything to do with killing or hurting people. My sister on the other hand..."

"Hey! I've done nothing since I got resurrected."

"Yeah but if you could you would've!"

"Maybe. You don't know that!"

Darren groaned, "ANYWAY. We're villains... ex-villains. Nat calls me a pup though... apparently, my soul isn't that bad... and Tracy's just gotten resurrected so her's is new and clean. Apparently, our family was blessed by god like a long time ago and all our descendants are too. But most of the family kinda went off track and did evil. Nat... and Agas... want us to stay clean so we can help save God. Because apparently we can maybe be used as GPS if we're nice and clean. Or at least that's what Archangel Michael said."

Mason stared in silence for a few beats before he turned to Natalie, expression having gone to completely unamused seriousness, "I think I need a few things unpacked from that. Natalie... who is Agas? And why would God need to be saved? What in God's great name has been happening?"

Gaia.pngGaia... and Death
Gaia licked her lips, smiling cheekily at the man in front of her. She laughed lightly, "You are an odd one. If you weren't happily married... mm... But I'm not one to try to break up such a sweet and loving union. She's a lucky lady." She lazily held her hand out and created a small butterfly which fluttered against her fingers, "Los Angeles isn't anything special, for the most part. That said, more than one champion was already in the area. It's also a place with a lot of people, and for something like a game, an audience is important, is it not? Plus... mm... Death's little guilt trip is in town."

At that, like being called with a bell, a door appeared and in stepped Lady Death herself. She pointed a finger at Gaia, "Stop running your mouth about that, would you!? You're as bad as War. Why is it so bad for me to take interest in a mortal?"

Gaia stood, now grinning at her friend(family member?) that appeared, "Oh come on. Interest is one thing. Be honest. You feel guilty."

"I drove the poor man insane! Yes I feel a little guilty!"

"Adam, dear, we're talking about that Wildcard fellow. He saw something he shouldn't, after a death cult did some shenanigans, and went a little nutso. Managed to survive thanks to his regeneration, however. Lady Death's taken an interest in him ever since. Positively has a crush on the boy."

"I do NOT!" Death shouted, a wave of mist rolling out from her feet as she stormed up to Gaia, who was a good foot taller than her in this form. The mist ate away and decayed at the sofas as it touched them. "And what about you, huh? How many bastard children do you have? Some that you don't even know of probably! You're interested in anything that moves!"

"Such is the way of life," she giggled and side-stepped the small angry woman, "Careful dear, there's a mortal here after all."

She squinted her eyes and gave a "death" glare at Adam, "How would he die if I'm here? A bit of discomfort is a given when dealing with beings like us. Isn't that right, human... detective? That's what that badge means, yes?"

"Lady Death has a thing for mortals. In a more... mortal sense. Thus her form looking practically human."

"Oh my gods, shut up! I like mortals here! I imagine detective here would think that's a good thing!"

vice.pngMountain Fight
The utter lack of self-preservation made the OA fighter completely stop in his tracks. He couldn't fathom some man, some... what he thought was just a civilian leader type... not even getting scared with a blade against his neck! What was he, suicidal? He didn't have time to respond as the fearsome goddess ran him through.

His blade went one way as his body ripped the other, away from the tip of her blade as a basketball-sized hole tore through his midsection. It sprayed blood across the rocky mountain floor, which just as quickly got washed away with the rain. Which was all very dramatic and horrifying and full of gore. Vice, however, was much more concerned that she suddenly got yanked out of her book like a dog on a chain!

The small girl, now getting drenched by rain like the rest of them, had what looked to be a human arm in one hand, and a pointed, screwdriver-like tool in the other. Vice gave a choked squeak somewhere between surprise, horror, and rage as she stared at James and Sato. She hefted the disembodied arm at Sato and loosely swung it at her, "WHAT THE FUCK SATO?! The only reason I didn't get summoned here sooner to protect him was because of your relationship with him and the intent behind the attack! You absolute fucking lunatic! What the hell would I have been meant to do if my book's binding had forced me to retaliate against you?! James would've had to stop me with an order! James.... shit!"

She turned her focus on James, "Fucking fuck fuck hell shit fuck. Are you okay? That must really hurt. Oh... crap. This is gonna hurt more for a moment please bear with it and then I'll heal you." Vice plucked him off the blade with a quick shove, like taking off a really sucky bandaid. She pushed her hands against his stomach where the wound was, the tool and arm disappearing, and pulsed swift healing energy through him. The warmth felt like a field of summer flowers, and a barrier appeared above them to avoid the rain.

"There... Are you alright? I'm sorry I didn't get pulled out of my book sooner. You could've summoned me, you know?" Vice looked beyond James to the OA man, "He's not dying yet. He must have some sort of regeneration or something, Sato. He's unconscious though. What the hell is going on here? James, I don't want to lose you already. I only just met you. That was scary."

Tactician

It was an awkward 15 minutes between Casey and Sean while Ada rested in another room, the merc occupying himself by simply staring at Sean as he leaned against the wall near the doorway. After the brief conversation, he didn't seem overly talkative...then again, he was never overly talkative. As Ada walked in, Casey's attention shifted to focus on her as she spoke and gave a small incline of his head. "You'll get used to it. By and large, those are just paper cuts compared to what the long run is...yes, we're done talking. I'm not going to kill him, yet." That 'yet' hung in the air like a foreboding omen given the fact he would indeed just kill Sean if he proved an eternal liability. At the suggestion of training him like his father used to teach him and having her watch earned a very low chill tone from him, Casey's mask focused on Ada and then Sean as he spoke. "The day you see any boy naked, training or not, you're going to never find him again. He would entirely and completely cease to exist or have ever existed." Terribly vague for poor Sean outside of the fact nudity was involved and having said nudity exist would cause him to be erased from the census...and possibly any census in the history of the universe in the process.

Casey made a motion of 'follow me' after that statement as he started back towards the main room with the rest of the training gear and equipment with the mercs main advanced computer set up nearby. Approaching a large table he started to undo the straps and the rest of his equipment as he started to peel out of the suit. Despite the amount of steps to it he seemed uncomfortably quick at getting out of it...the entire process down to two minutes and thirty seconds as he rolled his shoulders, dressed in that 'business casual' look he typically had. "This training is going to be simple. You're going to show me what you can do. Short of killing me, do whatever you want. Don't hold back, I need to know what you're capable of." As he spoke he reached up to crack his knuckles, icy gaze on his new 'student'.

And with dead uncaring motion, she began to squeeze the soul. just before the point of bursting, before releasing her grip, and then slwoly squeezing again, For sato, it would have felt as if she was dying, repeatedly, the feeling of her very soul crying out for help in fear of destruction, "S̶̤̈́̈́a̸͎̎t̴͈͖̄̅ȏ̵͔̀ͅ,̸̢̯͑̾ ̴̧̑̚Ï̸͔̥̿ ̴̠͋h̵̯͋o̶̯̦͝p̵̻̼̏e̷̠̊ ̸̖́̂t̴̛̰̼h̸̙̄i̷̭͛͘s̵̝̉̚ ̸̥̦̈̆h̶̹̱̎ḁ̶̆̈d̸͉̽͑ ̷̭̂ē̷͖d̴̡͎̓̚ǘ̵̲͕͘c̶̳̿̕a̶̱͆͒ṫ̷̠ě̵͕̏ď̵̺̥ ̵͇̽y̴̥̹̓o̵̧̫͐u̷̟̚.̶̫͛̑.̴̦͑͗.̷̭͊̓.̴̛̩́.̷̼̂ ̶́͜͜b̸̟̻̓̋e̴̦͆c̶̲͍̃̽a̴̟̲͆͝ụ̴̒s̸̢͉̍̕é̵̞͓̂ ̸͚̎ī̵̞̀f̶̨̛̙ ̴͎̑n̷̯͖̕ó̵̦͉̅t̷̙̒́.̴͍͗.̶̝̐̽.̷̢̀̀.̸̢̩̏͒" her face slowly cracked down the middle. before splitting open. revealing the horrors of beyond the veil of reality.
