Fandom Super Robot Wars (SRW) Anyone?

Hi. Anyone interested in mechas and crossovers? Besides canon characters and settings there could be original characters and an original setting that allows for the crossover but original characters would be limited to 1-2 like in most SRW games.

I like these things! Will we be limited by properties Bamco can actually get their hands on, or can we pick anything as long as it feels correct?

I say go with what you want! We can make a list of properties to toss into the pot, and see which ones will add to the flavour.

Awesome! Thanks for the interest!

Are there any canons or ideas you'd like to see (canons or originals)? I'll post some suggestions shortly too.

Well, technically you can use anything that fits if you use Dimensional Weapons as an excuse like Z, you could just straight up use Orguss or supplement your own story (so the world isn’t on a timer until doomsday and nobody must sacrifice themself to stop it).

I kind of prefer it this way as anyone can pull in another world if they want at any time, and the worlds will genuinely interact for the first time instead of already knowing eachother. This also means that any OC characters can pull from whatever story they want. Like if someone wanted to be a coordinator or newtype, or if someone wanted their backstory to be on planet Solo before the Buff Clan showed up they wouldn’t be restricted.

If you don’t want to do it that way though, the ones I want are L-Gaim and Code Geass, further than that I suggest FSS, Macross, Dancougar, SEED, Ideon, and Getter Armageddon. Of course, there should be at least one Getter, Mazinger, and UC Gundam show too or else it wouldn’t be SRW.

Holy hell. Where were you when I was desperate for retro anime rps. While I recognize all of the series named, my knowledge of them is far more limited. My knowledge of FSS, for example, is restricted to the movie. But I definitely would like to include it because of how much I love the mechs, Fatimas, and desert aesthetics. And it made me think of including Xenogears as well thanks to it and FSS sharing similar aesthetics besides it being an old favourite.

SRW usually includes at least a few newer series (Cross Ange, Expelled from Paradise, etc.) so we needn't restrict it to only old IPs.

Alright. Time to throw together a simple starter area.

We've got a desert environment a la Five Star Stories, Xenogears, bits and pieces of Votoms and Zoids Saga with a slightly medieval-ish level of technology (Other areas having a wide range of technology and civilization level).

Ancient mechs are buried under the sand, and bustling towns and large scale operations are dedicated to excavating and repairing them.

New shiny mechs get built too but these are rarer so when visitors from other worlds arrive, they catch a lot of attention.

What say everyone?

And to break the ice on choosing characters as well as pitch a potential first post for when the RP thread gets made (Any suggestions on the SRW title?_

(*Plays slightly generic SRW stage intro music and adopts snarky narrator voice*)

Stage 1: I Wish the Boy Who Fell from the Sky had been a Girl!

Meet Rui Kanoya. He's a 'Creation,' or what you call a fictional character, who just happened to fall into another universe with his powerful machine, the Gigas Machina.

Actually, he had been summoned by a god for reasons unknown to him, but that isn't revealed until later.

For now, he finds himself in a desert land that thrives on excavating and repairing ancient machines buried in the sand.

Ok, let's say this planet is one of few of a fledgling interstellar humanity. Humanity cannot FTL travel yet but they found convenient wormholes just outside the Earth Sphere. The findings here have accelerated mecha development by some noteworthy scientists and engineers elsewhere, which is why there are a few entirely new ones.

Why didn't we see the wormholes before? Uhhh, they produced minovsky particles and couldn't be detected.

Hmm, doesn't sound bad if Harlock or Yamato were involved. If they are then I'd want to bring in Galaxy Express. But it doesn't seem too SRW-ish especially for terrestrial based mechs and settings like Mazinger.

Edit: In a space setting though, bringing in Macross or Gargantia might be fun.

I didn't think Harlock or Yamato were very SRW-ish when they were first announced for their appearances, to be fair.

Yeah, not really super robot shows (and no screaming out of attack names) though I don't really mind their being included. It would be pretty dull if it were always the same 80s mechs and characters being included over and over. There are only so many variations you can do obviously.

Someone wanna toss out another character though? Might help to start cobbling together a setting and plot.

Right now, I'm just going off of FSS, Xenogears, and possibly The Third, another mostly desert setting, (where there is a Technos Taboo forbidding humans to develop technology above a certain level after an apocalyptic conflict. Doesn't have to be worldwide of course. Just restricted to the starting areas or anywhere under the group's control. This basically means that most mobile suits and even knightmares would be considered too dangerous and make the pilots into fugitives.

In SRW 3, Mazinger Z without jet scrander operates perfectly fine in space so do several Mecha Beasts. Most would just be at a disadvantage like the GP01. A simple solution would be having there be a secondary option for a mecha in space settings like having some extra GMs stored on a carrier or letting people choose their own secondary. There should be some degree of interaction in space. As far as I'm aware every SRW goes to space at some point.

The wormhole was just a suggestion so we could go to Earth at some point. Earth is very important in every Mecha I've seen except L-gaim, FSS, and VOTOMs.

By interstellar I meant they only controlled maybe one or 2 planets outside the solar system so the Earth Federation is still the big government, not that they have like half the galaxy, that's obviously too large scale for starters.

Not necessarily. Especially if it were the 3D Harlock movie being adapated where humans basically reach out to all parts of the universe although most places except for Earth are depicted as barren boonies that everyone wants to venture out to the stars to escape from. In that one, Earth is considered sacred and off limits to repopulation although the hypocritical elites of course slyly gave themselves permission to return there. Obviously, the concept of an offf limits Earth has potential for crossovers with other series where Earth is also newly recovered from a catastrophe or hidden away. (Yamato, Gargantia, UC, hell, even Asimov's Robot series.)
