history

veronica grew up in town, near sunshine fun zone. her father left when her younger brother was born, she was about five. she doesn't remember much about her father, but the details she can recall aren't great. she remembers him yelling at her mother a lot, but she can't remember the specifics of it all. growing up, she received very little attention from her mother, who was either at work or drunk (most of the time it was probably both). she's always had a contentious relationship with her mother, but has been very close with her brother and often acted as a guardian figure. she had to learn to grow up quickly. even at a young age she was taking care of her brother since her mother typically wasn't up to the task, while trying to take care of herself. she was always a bit of a shy kid, closed off and guarded. instead of doing childhood things like joining sports teams and doing arts and crafts, she was constantly worried about herself and her brother- never knowing if they'd revive the support they needed from their mother. as she got older, veronica grew more intense. she always had an attitude at school, somewhat angry at the world. she got a job at sunshine fun zone as soon as she was able to. most of the money she got went to her brother and basics for herself. she didn't try very hard in school and was a straight c student. as soon as she turned 18 she got a crappy apartment and moved herself and her brother out of their negligent mother's apartment. knowing that college wasn't going to happen and she likely wouldn't find a better job, she kept working at sunshine fun zone- even got a promotion to be a shift lead and trainer. she was never great at her job, she doesn't take things too seriously and only does the bare minimum. as of now, she's worked at sunshine fun zone for six years and has loathed most of her time there.

  growing up, beau was quiet. quiet, unassuming, polite and reserved. he had to be, if he wanted to survive in the beaumonte household. he always tried to be an optimist - to see the best in everyone and everything, but with his education, it made things hard. knowing how the world works and how people think makes it close to impossible to convince yourself everything will always be okay. especially when your sister goes missing, and your parents die. optimism begins to become more of a joke theory than a way of life. no, instead he was a realist. beau always saw things exactly as they were. no dilution - no watering it down or dramatization. he took everything at blunt, face value, and viewed it as though he were a spectator. it made it easier for him to decide whether it was something he should be angry about. yes, someone upset him, but what were they thinking when they did it? yes, this broke, but did its creator know about that flaw? a thought process like that. at times, it’s valuable. during others, it can be exhausting. his refusal to view things from his own perspective means he finds it hard to ever blame anyone, or hold people accountable for mistreating him. he's smart enough to work out what other people were thinking at the time, then everyone sounds reasonable enough. a true middle man.
  
  he’s always been dedicated and focused, having spent most of his childhood with his nose in a book, so he doesn’t struggle to get to work. if anything, he finds it hard to turn off his thinking-brain. this can be off putting for others, as it can feel like he’s always analyzing rather than taking a break and just having fun, but he really tries to stop. beau longs for closeness with others and charisma and relaxation, but it’s just not his nature. his way of life is coldhearted responsibility and loveless, hard stares. if he’s going to learn how to have platonic exchanges like teasing, mischief or just plain, laid back conversation, it’s going to take a while. he needs to expose himself to others more. fortunately, with his application to join a sunshine fun zone, he’s been getting better at it. he's found his voice in sarcasm and irony, and seems to be pretty good at flirting, too. he's worked out that confidence seems to be the key, so he just talks like he knows exactly what he’s doing. like it's an operation, and he’s reading from a script he’s memorized. he knows exactly what to say and delivers it with perfect accuracy. though, this means people with eccentric personalities are harder for him to tackle. he's a simple man when it comes to socialization and thought processes.
  
  of course, due to his lack of people by his side, he’s very loyal. he refuses to lose anyone else. he's lost his parents, his sister, and his brother’s personality faded away in front of his eyes. he can't bear to lose anyone anymore. beau would do anything and everything someone asked of him. it's most likely due to how demanding his mother was, but he tends to forget that he’s allowed to say no to people. being overprotective is in his nature, an older brother looking out for the little man. he struggles to express more complex emotions, being very direct. he's straight to the point. i like you, i don't like you, i love you, etc. he doesn’t know what to do when that isn’t good enough for people. he needs simple love. simple friendship. he longs for that simple, domestic life. he fears disappointing people and hates accepting betrayal or failure, so just ignores and ignores and ignores until he finds himself crying and pulling his own hair out. he's always working so hard for good things, so when they go wrong, he finds himself denying and denying until it boils over. beau just wishes the whole world could be good and kind to everyone. he's got a heart of gold and a mind of gold too, it's just a shame that he doesn’t know how to feel things as messy and wild as others do.
  
  he needs friends who pay attention to the little things. beau is forever a ‘little things’ person. he's too direct for flourished confessions by word of mouth. ‘you're good.’ and ‘i like you.’ is the best he’s able to give verbally. instead, he helps out, or lends a shoulder to cry on. he's not good at keeping things complex. he hates the complicated. he's had enough of strong, negative feelings in his childhood. traumatic experiences and hard situations. he just wants a perfect calm now. though, he has to fight for it first. in an ideal world, beau cures world hunger and global warming, then marries the perfect man or woman and they die old together, having spent their life doing laundry and eating home cooked meals. that's what he wants. he's soft like that. gentle. clinging to the hope for a painless life. he longs for it, despite knowing it's unlikely to happen.

  beau, being the oldest of the three beaumonte siblings, received the brunt of his mother’s anger. annette was a woman scorned, and not one to control her temper. he grew up terrified of her, and betrayed by a father that didn’t care enough to stop her. he knew no life beyond the walls of their estate, homeschooled by babysitters and fretted over by housemaids. until his sister went missing, that is. his siblings, until then, had been his only joy. whispered conversations through paper thin walls, funny faces shot across the dinner table, his only comfort in the early days of childhood… slipping through his fingers like ropes of sand.
  
  sylvie… nine years old, gone. there one morning and gone the next. his mother only got angrier as time went by and she still wasn’t found. her aggression became more frequent, and beau found himself wishing more and more for an escape, like whatever one sylvie must’ve come across. because at the time, he was so sure she escaped. nowadays, he’s smart enough to know she’s dead.
  
  all beau had left with sylvie gone was hugo, but their sister’s disappearance and their mother’s increase in hatefulness was taking a toll on him. hugo shut himself up in his room, avoiding beau as much as you can when you live together. beau, with no other options left, delved into his studies. found comfort in the wonders of science - how things worked. how it felt almost like magic - how perfectly the human body works, how the world came to be, how things can be created, etc.
  
  and then his eighteenth birthday was approaching, and he still had nothing outside of his own education going for him. at this point, he wouldn’t even mind if his mother paid someone his age to be his friend. he just needed the socialization. and he worked up the courage to tell her such. unfortunately, her response was worse than he could’ve imagined. she whined about him coming of age in two years, how he was becoming old enough to gain responsibilities, how he had to buckle down and learn (as if he wasn’t already a goddamn genius due to her incessant teachings) and how someday he’d have to inherit their business. beau was heartbroken. he hated the idea, had no intentions to run the business, and couldn’t care less about software and computers. he wanted to make things. friends, inventions, medicine, whatever. he didn’t care as long as it wasn’t his father’s company.
  
  then his birthday came. march 13th. due to this whole new idea of ‘buckling down’ and responsibilities, their usual family meal out for a birthday did not take place. instead, only hugo was sent out. sent to a work friend’s home for the day, the plan was for the whole day to be spent preparing beau for his future running the company. beau, however, had other plans. he refused to spend his eighteenth birthday learning about such boring shit. he snuck out, for the first time in his life, and it was both the greatest and worst decision ever made.
  
  he returned home after a day of buses, museums and parks, to find his house destroyed and his driveway full of police cars. his heart plummeted to his stomach and he practically threw himself at hugo, who was sitting on the sidewalk curled in a blanket. he’d returned after receiving the news. his parents were dead. beau didn’t know how to feel. he almost forgot how to breathe. his parents, dead, on his birthday. died waiting for him. if he had been there, would it have been different? would he be dead too? or would he have noticed the fire? would they have lived?
  
  both of his parents didn’t have any siblings, and his grandparents were all deceased except one, who was deemed unfit to care for beau and hugo. in the blink of an eye, everything beau had ever known was soot underfoot.

  lyam beaumonte ♰ ⋆ father ━ lyam was less a father and more of a ghost, even before his death. avoidant and dismissive of his own children, beau learned to co-exist with his father, who at least shared some compassion. they never talked much, but his father's ignorance to his wife's abusive behavior is a scar better left untouched.
  sylvia beaumonte ♰ ⋆ sister ━ sylvie's death has always been a sensitive topic for beau, who blames himself for not looking out for her more, being a better big brother. as much as he knows she's long gone, a part of him still hopes she's out in the world somewhere, living life to the fullest, a happier ending to a sad beginning.

personality bio: Others would say Ethan is having a difficult time growing up, Ethan would say it's that he refuses to conform. Over the years what began as a childlike wonder has developed into an obsession with the unknown, making Ethan somewhat of a conspiracy theorist who spends entirely too much time reading into every situation in life. Ethan can make something out of nothing in just a few minutes, leaving others to write off even his most truthful statements because he is always so fantastical that people just don't buy into it anymore. In reality, Ethan only ever tells the truth, or at least what he believes to be the truth. Having been homeschooled by parents who always worked on the road, his formative years lacked the socialization his peers received on a regular basis, and Ethan can struggle to create lasting relationships, and more than that, seems to be completely incapable of reading the room. He will say whatever comes to mind, in total disregard to whether it's currently appropriate or not.
His lack of friends isn't for lack of trying, but Ethan is often impatient with others and unwilling to involve himself in matters that aren't interesting to him. This makes his usual knack for being a quick learner relatively useless in areas, because if it isn't something he wants to know, he won't put forth much effort.
Ethan lived a life of comfort, and his parents identified a little too late that he possesses traits one might liken to those of spoiled children, and despite continuous efforts, they can't seem to get him to do much, and have determined the unfortunate reality that Ethan is just lazy.
Ever the open mind, Ethan doesn't agree with his parents' perception of him, and thinks that he is just a free spirit who sees the world differently- sees it the way that it actually is- and that others just don't get him.

family relationships: Phillip Ledger, father: close, but not as close as they were when Ethan was young. The relationship is especially tumultuous now that Ethan has moved in with his Dad after two years of living with his mom, and Ethan isn't willing to make any real moves to improve his life.
Melinda George (formerly Melinda Ledger), mother: Ethan loves his mother dearly but they don't see eye to eye. He recently left her house to go and live with his father.
Corrine Jameson (soon to be Mrs Ledger), future step-mother: Ethan doesn't really know anything about Corrine, but she seems nice enough so far despite occasionally bugging him about "needing to listen to his father". But he's glad his father found someone he's truly happy with and supposes she won't be the worst step mom. Since she has no children of her own, Ethan remains an only child.
history bio: To the outside world, the Ledgers were a tight knit crew, and for many years, Ethan believed that, too. His childhood was different than his peers, he at least understood that much. His parents are anthropologists, and Ethan was homeschooled so they could travel the world while his parents wrote research papers. It wasn't until he was a teenager that they finally settled down somewhere, and it took a great deal of adjusting to a day-to-day lifestyle for Ethan. Having a consistent schooling schedule and list of daily responsibilities just wasn't what he was used to, and he struggled to measure up to others his age when it came to standardized testing and exams.

Over time, as things became more routine, Ethan got used to it.

His parents divorce was something he didn't see coming. What started as a life of spending time together every weekend, special holiday traditions, and a family that shared everything, ended with just a few short weeks communicating between lawyers. Ethan understood the break to be relatively clean, and it wasn't until his mother told him that he realized they had only been waiting for him to turn eighteen, they had been planning this for a while.

However, one front his parents remained united on was the success of their only child. Ethan was propelled into college prep courses while living with his mother, and pushed to find a singular focus for a career. In rebellion to this, Ethan only delved further into the "nonsense" his parents had tried driving him away from his whole life. Urban legends, conspiracies, cryptozoology. It's something he hoped to make a career out of, regardless if his parents found it worthwhile.

For a time Ethan lived with his mother, he requested to take a "gap year" to figure out what he wanted to do with his life (though he knew with complete certainty he also wanted to travel the world and research, just in a totally different field than his parents) and his request was granted. After about a year, his mother started pushing him. Ethan has come to the end of his rope with excuses he can give his mother why he's not in college, so, he called up his dear old dad and asked to move out to his place. Unsurprisingly, Ethan's dad was ecstatic to have his son living with him, so he showed up bright and early to pick his son up from the airport. Unfortunately for Ethan, his parents still communicated. He was met with a barrage of reasons why he needed to go on to college. Somehow, Ethan talked his dad into just another year off, while he saved a little extra money... which was funny because Ethan had neither ever had a job, nor had any intentions of getting one.

Push came to the eventual shove, and his dad told him he had to work if he was going to keep putting school off and living at home. Ethan gave in, but elected to get another nonsense job that he knew his dad wouldn't approve of. Could he have called up any of his parents' colleagues and landed a better job? Definitely. But he didn't want the responsibility, and he wants to prove to his parents that he is not a man to be controlled...

..Despite the fact he's totally controlled by whatever the latest conspiracy fad is, or the fact he's completely too lazy to realize any of his own dreams in life.

She wears a lot of neutral and earth tone colors, like that lighter army green, beige, black, white, etc. She owns a single pair of heels, favoring her sneakers and sandals over the extra three inches. Occasionally, she does throw on the occasional sundress, usually some shade of yellow. Ivy is also a very big fan of novelty earrings. Not gaudy mind you, but things like crabs, mini brands, a working mini harmonica or watercolor pallet.
  
  Physical Description:
  First up, her face. Ivy has a mix of a heart and oval shaped head. Her jawline is soft, not very defined and she has a little double chin. And her actually chin comes to a small point, and while not visible, Ivy has the slightest of under bites. Her cheeks are round, often a little rosey. Her cheekbones sit little low with some definition. Her nose is on the smaller side, with a straight brideg and a tip that points up slightly. The nostrils are a little thin, and she often flares them as a bit of a stim. Her eyes are almond shaped, the corners pointed a bit downward, with hooded eye lids and long lashes.
  
  Next up, body. Ivy is plus sized. Just straight up, she is plus sized. She weighs 283lbs, and carries a lot of it in her lower half. She does have good reason for back pain 44F. Her legs are strong, she had big thighs and a nice calves which means shorts always ride up and she had great advice for summer chafing solutions beyond the standard deodorant and pray approach. Her hips are wide, but she has somewhat prominent hip dips, but her butt is proportionate. She also has a D belly (meaning her belly is shaped liked a D since she didn't suck it in as a kid), which is why low rise jeans are her natural body enemy. Her arms also nice and round, very soft. All of this is though hiding some muscle, thanks to helping her parents out.
  
  Some other details include the light splatter of freckles she's got over her body. She had one cheek dimple but two back dimples. Her hands are always soft, and her nails while short are very well kept.

  Personality Bio: At first, it appears there's not much to Ivy. She's quiet, flying under the radar in most situations and rarely does she make an attempt to go an introduce herself to strangers. She prefers being on her own, doing her own thing and not having to worry too much about other people. This comes from her being incredibly shy and her relatively low self esteem. This side is shed though behind the counter, some sort of customer service override. She can put on a nice, bubbly front of happy outgoing girl. That side comes out more genuinely around people she cares about or feels comfortable around. Her friends get that side a lot. Ivy is also always looking out for the people around her, even with her being as shy as she is, Ivy is definitely a "Mom Friend". She's always prepared for many different situations, wants to give advice, and always has a shoulder for you to leave on. Even if she struggles a bit to connect on that true emotional level. But she prefers to do something rather just say she understands.
  
  She's also rarely visibly angry and manages to keep a level, calm collected head in a cast majority of different situations. When she does get angry though, it's very rare that she yells, or even raises her voice. Ivy is very much a "I'm not mad, just disappointed" kind of person. With that being said, if you're doing something blatantly dumb that will lead to injury, she's very vocal about it. Especially if she is involved in some way.

  Fiona Stewart, Mother, 49 - A lovely woman well known in the community for running Sweet Things Bakery which has been open and running strong for the last 25 years. She looks a lot like Ivy, people often say Ivy is her mother's twin. They have a pretty strong relationship, open and trusting. It's of without the occasional butting heads, especially since they often work together as Fiona intends to have Ivy take over Sweet Things. A prospect Ivy is excited about.
  
  Henry Stewart, Father 56 - Your standard blue collar man, Henry runs his own AC company. A local business that employs around 50 people, Henry recently branched out to two neighboring towns to expand his business. Ivy and him are close as can be, she is 100% a Daddy's Girl, and he spoils her like a princess. Ivy thinks it's to make up for his busy he is. But he's also a great father, a good balance of firm, fun, and guidance. He's made sure she knows how to do basic repairs and home upkeep...while also making sure she never has to do it herself. He's also well known in the community for helping out single mothers by making sure their kids (mostly sons) have some fatherly guidance with an after school program he started years ago.
  
  Thomas Stewart, Older Brother, 24 - Thomas is very much a rough and tumble kinda guy. It looks like he and Ivy don't get on too great, but in reality, they're pretty close. He's very protective over both her and Melody, but given the age gap, he and Ivy are just closer. He's also very sweet, and a little dumb (himbo), and great with his hands. When he's not working with their dad, he actually takes custom furniture orders to make on the side for fun and profit. But mostly fun. In fact, a lot of the pieces in Sweet Things Bakery were made by him.
  
  Melody Stewart, Younger Sister, 12 - Melody is a little pest, and Ivy doesn't like being around her that much. Since Melody is the baby, and everyone is so busy, Ivy tried to cut her some slack but it's hard when she's acting like a nightmare. Not to mention Ivy is very close to losing it on that ballet teacher who feels the need to comment on something about Ivy's physically every single week. Melody likes to throw tantrums and sulk, and all sorts of standard 12 year old things that just suck. But Ivy does love her, and is willing to do a lot for her. At the same time... she'd gladly sell her for a bag of corn chips.
  
  History Bio: Let's get this out of the way first. There is no major trauma or event that has happened in Ivy's life for any sort of tragic backstory. She had lived a perfectly normal life, with not much excitement.
  
  In any case, Ivy was born and raised right in town to her very loving parents. Her brother might have been an accident, but they had certainly planned for Ivy. Sweet Things had just started to take off and Stewart Air Cooling was thriving. After moving to nicer and slightly larger home, Ivy was the perfect little addition to their trio. From about a month old, Fiona would bring Ivy into Sweet Things while she worked since the woman couldn't sit still, her early days spent mostly sleeping in that back sling. As she grew a little older, old enough to cause problems, she'd be sent off to day care. Even at that age, Ivy was a shy little thing, usually off on her own. But not alone, as there was another kid just as shy as she was. Ivy cannot remember his name, or even what they did if anything at all, but that was enough for her parents to tell the attendants to stop worrying. As she grew, and entered kindergarten and then 1st grade, the other kids started to pick up on the fact Ivy was a bit different. Not just socially, but physically. She has always been a bit larger than everyone else. Even when getting daily exercise during grade school, eating right, whatever. This was always a popular topic among her peers, and made her an easy target for bullying. Which has been a persistent presence in her life.
  
  Anyway, at 13, after years of hanging out at the bakery, Ivy began to actually work there. Not officially of course, but she started helping her mom out with making batter, stocking, cleaning up, that kind of thing. It's how she learned about her love of baking, and cooking, the power that came with her mom kicking out people being rude to her. That was always entertaining. Anyway, her help was appreciated especially after Melody was born and got to the age of being a pest. Spending time at the bakery really helped with that. Especially when Melody started ballet and her instructor began to influence her opinions on Ivy's appearance. Her family had always been really encouraging and loving, but Melody just knew how to press every button.
  
  Once Ivy graduated, she was well on her way to taking over the bakery early but her mother actually encouraged her to persue some other hobbies or jobs first. There was no point in spending her entire life a the bakery. And Ivy had to agree at least a little, applying for an online community college to get an associates degree in History at 19. Not the most useful degree, but it seemed fun. She's on her last year now, and decided to apply for the theme park for some extra cash and more excuses to get out of the house. It wasn't exactly her first choice but... she's not too picky.

History Bio: Not much is known about the man known as Fernándo, he does not speak much about his past. As best as he revealed to his coworkers, he is just one of many immigrants who work for the park working to make a living and to help out his family back home the best he can. He began working in one of the stalls, selling various gadgets, magical kits and other little nick necks. He would get in regular trouble for living his post, often found using some of the stores' product to performs tricks for kids and some of the mothers as well. Despite being chewed out, his easygoing manner and charm made him quite popular with customers, saved him from getting fired, and he received and new role as fair magician.   From an outsider perspective, Clay comes across as a cool, laid-back and all around likable albeit distant guy. He has a mysterious air to him that allures people into getting to know him better, but you will never catch Clay talking about himself outside of the basic stuff, like what's his favorite color or what kind of music he listens to. This doesn't mean Clay is an apathetic loner. Quite the opposite, he's most commonly seen hanging out at the biggest parties, chatting with his classmates and having a fun time riding his motorcycle with at least one wasted person attached to his back in the dark of the night. Everyone who has met him or heard of him, and is worth mentioning that he has a significant reputation in town, considers Clay to be the ideal guy. A put together person with charisma, a sense of humor and a helpful demeanor.
  
  However, from an inside perspective —meaning he is the only one that knows this side of himself— Clay is a mess. Suffering from a condition known as Persistent Depressive Disorder, Clay is far from the mentally stable individual that everyone believes he is. When left with his pessimistic thoughts and familiar emptiness, he shows his genuine self. This Clay is numb, self-destructive and likes to spend all day long in his bed, watching the days pass him by in a state of hopelessness, eating next to nothing and contemplating the meaning of his existence and the possibility of his death. His double depression episodes worsen said symptoms, but his dysthymia forces him into a perpetual slightly milder version of it. Clay lives his life through a fog that allows him just enough will to go about his day.
  
  After a certain experience that pushed him to better himself and find a way out of his personal hell, Clay has begun putting effort into being what he deems 'normal'. He goes out to house parties, clubs and various social events despite his total lack of motivation, in order to accomplish this. He acts confident, plays up his smiles and pretends to be everything Clay wishes he could really be, all in hopes that "fake it till you make it" will apply to his case one day. Meanwhile, having to take breaks from this make-believe persona he has developed as to hide away in his room for days on end when it gets really bad. His colleagues have never questioned him over it, as Clay goes to great lengths to keep his mental illness a secret in fear people will treat him differently.
  
  In reality, Clay doesn't understand himself. It comes with the territory of distrusting his own mind, thinking of it as traitorous, sabotaging and useless. He reasons his very own brain is against him and the self-deprecating, defeatist mentality that he was born with is his fault. As such, Clay feels unable to escape and expects he'll be drained from his vitality with each passing day. He has been convinced by no one other than himself that he's destined to unhappiness and misery for the rest of his life. The young man wants so badly to stop being depressed, to be able to reach a hand inside his head and fix whatever is wrong with him, like reaching for a misplaced piece of a puzzle and placing it in the right slot. But that is simply not how it works. Even now that Clay's trying hard to overcome the limitations set by his depression, he has no inkling on how to begin and questions whether forcing himself to be someone completely different is the right thing to do.
  
  When it comes to others, Clay is reluctant to form close relationships. He's grateful to have casual companions that drag him to do things he wouldn't do without prompting, going along with whatever the flow dictates as long as it doesn't harm anyone, accommodating to people's personalities and sticking to the superficial aspects of socialization in a manner that accomplishes cordial relations with almost everyone he has interacted with. But his mental disposition makes establishing serious and intimate connections a challenge and his gnawing feeling of inadequacy further condemns this, constantly reminding him that 'people deserve better than him' and 'if he were to have a partner they would deserve better than him, too'. It's discouraging.
  
  Nowadays, Clay hasn't had a double depression episode in quite some time and he is getting better at maintaining the facade by ignoring his personal instincts and desires, which either leads him to favorable outcomes or really bad ones. Nevertheless the fact that he pretends there's nothing debilitating inside of him doesn't mean everything he displays to others is fake. Most often than not his emotions are simulated to be more potent than he actually perceives them, but they're still truthfully existing in him. His compassion, kindness and affection are real.
  
  Related to this, the emotions that Clay values the most are the ones born from extreme scenarios. He's a thrill seeker that gives priority to the safety of others rather than his own under the opinion that he is worth much less. Clay would easily put himself in front of an incoming threat to protect someone else or volunteer for the riskiest task as some kind of self-sacrificial noble cause. He wouldn't do this just for anyone, of course, as he's started trying to see himself in a more forgiving light. But the select few people he'd do it for, are people that mean the world to him.
  
  Some of his most useful qualities are pure Clay, like keeping his cool and a rational train of thought at all times, taking things on stride and adapting to the strangest situations by suspending his disbelief. Furthermore, he's sensible to people's suffering, he perseveres in adversity and he is a ride or die. On the other hand, he can be oblivious, too secretive and indecisive, he has self-destructive tendencies and he's detached yet overconscientious.
  
  All in all, Clay is just a good guy that has been dealt bad cards from the start. He's looking for support through his healing journey and reaching inside of him for the determination necessary to power through it alone, anyway.

  Born to two unknown-to-this-day individuals, Clay was put to adoption as soon as he found himself out of the womb, with his name being the equivalent of a last will from the people who left him in the arms of a nurse. He doesn't know why he was given up, who exactly his biological parents are or what they are doing with their lives right now, but ever since he became aware of what the word 'unwanted' means there hasn't been an instance where he cared enough to ask for said information.
  
  Instead of a normal and loving home where he could have stability and security, Clay grew up in the foster system, the antithesis of everything just mentioned. At least that's what he and his fellow foster kids would often talk about in the dead of the night, whispering ghost stories of word of mouth about the foster care system. About how this girl had run away and how this other boy had been starved. Thankfully, the foster homes Clay was placed in never abused him —at least not physically—. But they never kept him, either.
  
  Clay didn't quite understand why. He suspected it was because he never talked, he never ate, he woke up late in the afternoon, too late for school or didn't assist all together, and he looked a bit more like a real life zombie than the child those couples had been promised. The problem was given an end, a beginning and a name when his assigned social worker had him be psychologically assessed. He was diagnosed with chronic depression, more accurately known as Persistent Depressive Disorder, at the ripe age of seven years old.
  
  They didn't know what exactly triggered it, as even if living in an unconventional way, Clay hadn't suffered from any traumatic event —though they didn't quite believe him when he told them that—. Maybe it was hereditary, the old man in charge of his examination proposed. That struck a chord inside of him, for some reason. But the cause didn't matter as much as what to do with this information.
  
  With the money given by foster care, his foster parents at the time bought him the initial batch of medication. Things went downhill from there. If life had been hard prior to discovering his PDD, imagine how rocky it became afterwards.
  
  Even if compliant and supportive at the start, when the unexpected costs for medication and therapy began to chip away at their money, the marriage was forced to send him away, telling Clay that they hoped he would find someone more suited to take care of him. The sentiment was sweet but ultimately futile. Most people didn't want to deal with a mental illness in their kid. They either didn't consider themselves prepared enough to carry that kind of burden or they were the type that wanted to gain some easy bucks with the government issued subsidy to foster parents. Or both.
  
  Anyway, Clay was lacking in every aspect he needed to make his life tolerable. From professional help to medical assistance, there was no respite for him in an ever-changing environment that didn't cater to his very urgent necessities. He despaired and hurt and this didn't do anything as he still was supposed to live on. It was his new normal.
  
  And so, he didn't bother with acting anything other than how he felt. Clay would wear a blank face with eyes lidded by sleep deprivation, he wouldn't talk to people or go outside or do anything other than stare at the ceiling and consume time. This went on for years in which his hygiene and physical condition deteriorated. His intake of medication was on and off and it was notorious in the way he would crawl out of his bed to try and restart his life, just to go back to his previous pitiful state in a blink.
  
  Still, Clay's life isn't divided in pre-diagnosis and post-diagnosis. It's actually separated by before double depression and after double depression.
  
  The first time he suffered a double depression episode is a noteworthy memory. Up until then, the depths he had already reached by the time he turned seventeen years old were low and it was hard to believe he could sink lower. But he did.
  
  It is not something he likes remembering and he prefers acting like it never happened. Basically, getting held back a year because of your incapacity for consistent good work at school and watching all your friends move on to college while you reaffirm every bad thing ever said about you by others and by yourself. Well, apparently it can be a trigger for a double depression episode. And who knew double depression could be so intense and overriding, because certainly not Clay.
  
  It hit him harder than he could have predicted. The seed of inadequacy planted by his parents since birth, the verbal abuse he had to withstand throughout his years as a foster kid, the stigmatization and judgement from people who wouldn't understand he wasn't being dramatic or pretending to get out of doing things he didn't want like a lazy ass. It was all highlighted by the overwhelming onslaught of self-hatred, anguish and sheer tiredness.
  
  He was tired and he really wanted to sleep. Naturally, Clay woke up in the hospital and was immediately admitted into an inpatient mental health facility.
  
  There he met some interesting characters, a guy who liked rap way too much and a girl who would draw gory illustrations of you if you touched her muffins. One caught his attention, a woman that suffered from the same illness as Clay. She was soft in appearance and voice and kind with her words, and Clay liked spending his lunch listening to her anecdotes from back when she was a carefree little girl. The woman, when asked, said there was no hope left for her, that she was already old and didn't see any point to 'recovering', whatever it meant. Clay would complain that she didn't look nearly as old as she made it sound and they would both chuckle a bit, but despite these light-hearted moments she kept getting worse every time he saw her. Whatever treatment they were giving her, it didn't seem to be working.
  
  Clay's own treatment wasn't the miracle he had hoped for. He was reticent to open up to the therapist that liked prodding and pushing too much, the antidepressants reminded him of sleeping pills going down his throat and the cleanliness of the hospital walls made him feel like the most dirty thing out there.
  
  His talks with that woman were his real therapy and those were also taken away when the woman was released. She looked worse for wear than anything he had seen from her before, but her insurance had run out and it was time to go. Her final words stuck with him, "it's not too late for you, you can do it". She said as he patted him in the shoulder affectionately.
  
  This stranger who had settled for thinking of her depression as the final dot in an essay about life and death, was telling him that the pages of his own story were plentiful and blank for him to do as he wished. He didn't want to end up like her, Clay realized. It was as if his world had been put in motion.
  
  Suddenly, he felt a resolution bloom in his ribcage where not even his fatalistic attitude could easily quell it.
  
  Clay was discharged and instead of turning a new leaf like in a coming of age movie, he simply took things slow, into a gradual process scattered throughout months. He started by showering, cutting his hair, buying some new clothes and eating the greasiest hamburger and fries combo he could find. He got a part-time job cleaning dishes and some financial help from the Blakely family to pay for his education before he turned eighteen and ventured into the world on his own. It was painstaking for Clay, who just wanted to collapse, curl in bed and shrink until inexistence. But because he was someone who had never been believed in, the words of faith given by a random lady resonated within him through the worst of it.
  
  Currently, after facing innumerable struggles that are better left unspoken, Clay is still trying to survive his daily life and manage a balance between his outgoing front and his burnout true self, an idea that was born organically as he tried navigating socialization. For all his troubles, his situation has stabilized significantly. Clay managed to get his hands on a foster youth scholarship for college, he's living in a dingy apartment in the worst area of town and got three other part-time jobs to cover all the expenses for antidepressants and rent. He found a healthy hobbie in boxing and made friends with the majority of his same-age peers in the local college.
  
  Recently, Clay also managed to land a full-time summer gig in an amusement park called Sunshine Fun Zone, a somewhat well-known attraction in his hometown, that might help him on his savings aimed for therapy. Things are finally looking up for him and this is the first time in his life that he is looking forward to what the future might bring.

  Out of all his foster homes, the Blakely family is the only one he's still in contact with and on good terms. They never intended to adopt him, saying they were too old to raise another child, and Clay is fine with that.

The majority of them depict cartoon characters, but some of them have movie or video game characters on them as well. Her clothes that are not graphic are also lightly colored. Jeans are a go-to, both ripped and not, though she has a variety of knee skirts.

Noella's backyard looks more like a forest grotto thanks to effort she pours into it, and pour she does- regardless of if she has the means to do so. Being a college freshman, she is still coming to terms with the budgeting aspect of living alone with her less than stellar spending habits. It's just that there are so many things that she needs, like a vase for a new bouquet or more film for her Polaroid.

Of course Noella knows a line must be drawn somewhere. Thankfully, she also enjoys indulging in less expensive hobbies. A tried and true classic, running has an appeal that never gets old. Anything from a simple park stroll to a hiking trail that gets her lungs burning is on the table.

And while she is out, she might as well brush up on her photography. There are no shortage of photo opportunities, especially when you know where to look. Noella has a fair few spots where she loves to return to. She will not turn down a landscape shot, but wildlife cannot be beat. Flighty as they are, that just makes it all the more satisfying when she snaps the odd deer or rabbit.

Whatever she is doing, she will always be listening to something. She might eavesdrop on nearby idle chatter, but it will be her own music for the most part. Birdsong and woodland critter scuttle are not enough to fill the void of sound. There is something off putting, something deeply uncomfortable about silence that Noella could never label.

Which is why Noella loves team sports, Baseball in specific being her favorite. Not only does she play, but she also has quite the collection of player cards. Some of her best memories and friends have come from her grade school sports teams.

Nothing matters more to Noella than her friends, but it is not always a good thing. Her brand of advice can come off as uncouth to some. That, and her tendency to stick to her guns even if the situation calls for otherwise.

History Bio:

Who she is today probably was not what Noella's parents had in mind when they told her she needed to get out more. Once upon a time she had to be dragged to camping trips, park outings, and summer camps.

Noella got the worst of it from her mother, who had no shortage of not-so-fun health facts that she would love to spout off. Even Noella's dad was not immune, as even though he would try to keep up with her, she would find something she felt needed improvement.

Noella figured that if it could not be avoided, she should at least attempt to make the most of it. She knew her folks would bite without hesitation when she asked to try nature photography. It was a faint interest at best starting out, but one film camera and a few months later her bedroom wall was lined top to bottom with polaroids.

Often Noella would pick flowers and bring them home. They always died though, and much too quickly. She bought potted plants but then she would end up with so many she would not know what to do with them all. They were so beautiful though, and she would hate to waste them.

After asking her dad to help plant them so many times, a miniature meadow began to form. This clicked something in her, and once again, not much push was needed for her parents to let Noella have her own garden.

The small flowerbed in the backyard was Noella's domain. Soon enough the little patch sprawled with hydrangeas, azaleas, snapdragons, and whatever else was in season. Flowers do not grow overnight. Despite knowing this, it still agonized her. Though nothing made her swell with pride more than watching her seeds bloom.

Even with Noella's newfound appreciation for the outdoors, she still spent her summers trapped at camp because 'If you like being outside so much you should like it there!' and 'Why stop? You might stumble on something like you did with photography.' And she hated to admit it because she did not want to enable them, but it happened. Again.
