Well, this was a little awkward. Amy wasn’t sure whether to say bless you or if that would piss him off more. She stiffened as he grabbed the pill box, her expression a grimaced mixture of concern and caution.

“You might want to take that with-” Beck had already downed a shot along with the pill. “Water…” she trailed off. A quick search on her phone told her that, unsurprisingly, mixing alcohol and antihistamines was unadvised. Hopefully this one wasn’t the drowsy kind - they could do without Beck passing out and drowning in the hot tub when he inevitably joined the others.

“Don’t leave me out of the fun!”

Preoccupied with trying to determine Beck was in no real danger and refreshing her memory on good CPR practice, Amy hadn’t noticed Adi come through until the familiar voice rang out. With the door to the porch now wide open, the strong scent of weed was impossible to miss. This was anticipated, and Amy wasn’t judging anyone for it, but phew it was an assault on the senses. She exhaled long and slow through her nose, trying to redirect her attention to Beck.

“So, the cat. I’d like to say you won’t even know he’s here, but, well…” she gestured vaguely to his general - clearly affected - being. “He’s a sweetie, though.”

She scanned the counters, noting how they were already crowded with glasses and bottles galore. Time to pick her poison, she supposed. Although she wasn’t sure what the situation was in terms of sharing. If she were to guess, anything out in the open was probably communal, but clarification would be nice. The platter was definitely a free-for-all, at least, so she pulled some grapes from there.

bored

"Noah was lost in thoughts...
He sat there on the backseat of his mom’s car, looking outside the window. The scenery, trees and city lights and whatever slid past so quickly he couldn’t really pinpoint what he was seeing. His mother wasn’t the best driver, usually driving too fast, doing u-turns and sudden brakings.

The fresh high school graduates, the siblings were ready for the future. While Noah was already thinking about the next step in his education, Nora was looking into the summer party week she had dragged her brother in. Noah would have preferred not to as he was busy preparing for his psychology entrance exam.

But he would lie if he said he absolutely hated the idea. Celebrating the graduation and hanging out with friends (he knew luckily few people there) in a fancy summer villa sounded good. Besides, after googling the place, he was sure he would find a peaceful corner to bring his course books and study for the exam.

Then there was one of his mom’s sudden brakings, and Noah almost jumped out of his seat - thank god for the person who invented seat belts. “Okay, twins ready for a fun week?” His mom asked and Noah grinned - she knew fairly well that neither Noah or Nora liked being tied together like that.

“Noah and Nora, not just twins.” He sighed and she just laughed, and drove away once her children and their belongings were out of the car. Noah had two backpacks that had been next to him - Nora’s luggage was on the back truck. He carried one backpack on his shoulders, the other hung in his hands. That was the heavier one and it was a bit tricky to carry. Nora, who had brought her stuff too, gave a questioning look. “Books and my typewriter.” He explained and Nora’s gaze was even more confused, the wonder ‘why the fuck you brought a typewriter’ was all over her features but Noah said nothing.

Once inside the villa, he just threw his stuff on one of the bedrooms, a bed that was still free - the other had some luggage on. Whoever was his roommate for the week, wasn’t present currently and Noah wasn’t sure if it was a good or bad thing. Maybe it was good being alone for a bit after being forced to be in a car for time that went too long - he didn’t mind long drives unless he had to share them with his mom and sister, they were insufferable separately too but together? Yikes.

Either way Noah had not come to this trip to be completely, so he decided to go to the kitchen and see if anyone was there - Nora had already ditched him for better company.

excited, curious

The car drive had gone well
, it felt slower than it actually was, but that was something Nora experienced often. If she was excited about something, the waiting always felt impossibly long. The scenery, trees and city lights and what not, had slipped fast - their mom was a fast yet not very good driver but their dad happened to be on business.

She and her mom sat next to each other, mom naturally behind the steering wheel and Nora next to her on the passenger’s seat. Nora had been chatting with her pretty much the whole drive while Noah had mostly been lost in his thoughts - maybe stressing over entrance exams besides there being a lot of time still, heck Nora didn’t even know what or where she would apply but she wasn’t worried about it. She would go along with the vibes and see where life took her.

Eventually they arrived at the summer villa, their mom stopping the car with one of her trademark sudden parkings and Nora almost jumped out of her seat. “Damn, it’s never boring in your car.” She chuckled softly and jumped out of the car. Mom’s comment made ‘twins’ roll her eyes. She and Noah both hated that but were also too used to being bunched together to not make a fuss about it.

They took their luggage and with this their mom drove away. Both twins had two backpacks, and Noah seemed to struggle with them. Nora gave a questioning look, confused. However, Noah’s reply about books and a typewriter made her even more confused. It was one thing to own a typewriter (who did that in modern etra?) but bringing it with you as if you couldn’t stay without it for a week… That was even wilder.

“I mean, I guess I can’t judge. I have two giant Coca Cola filled with something hopefully-alcohol the internet told me to make.” She shrugged her shoulders and now it was, yeast sugar, water and waiting. And boom. Alcohol. Noah gave a confused look so Nora continued. “What? I wanted to drink and couldn’t get anyone to buy me anything. Don’t worry, my guardian spirit will make sure I don’t go blind.” She smiled sweetly. Besides that, Nora ignored her brother and walked past him to the villa.

The villa was even bigger and fancier than she had imagined. She wanted to instantly explore it more and just left her luggage in the living room, she could find a bedroom later, for now exploring it was. As an afterthought she brought her messy sketches and planning - sketchbook and a pen.

It was a nice summer day so she decided to go to the backyard first. Turned out she wasn’t the only one with that thought. There was a hot tub and a bunch of people inside - some familiar faces, some not. She walked slightly closer, unsure what to do - the tub seemed quite already full and she was not wearing a swimsuit. After standing there for a minute or two, she smiled and waved her hand, stood awkwardly some more and then sat on the ground, legs crossed. She held the sketch book on her lap and started sketching, then she realized she might seem like a creep. “Oh, for your information, I’m drawing a bunch of fairies. Not you.” She explained.

“Unless you want to. Paint me like one of your french girls and all that shit.” Nora chuckled, her grey-blue eyes having a tint of mischief and curiosity.

Today was the day! They were finally going to the Villa with some of their friends to enjoy a week of freedom before having to go off to university. This summer had honestly been longer than she imagined it would be. She thought things would fly by after they won prom king and queen, but no, every day came slower than the last. Perhaps because she didn't really want to go off to university despite it being the expectation. Maybe because she wasn't even getting to major in what SHE wanted to major in. Not like it would've mattered, it's not like things weren't already lined up for her job wise. All she wanted to do was relax with her girls. Perhaps wanting this trip so badly is what made time tick by so slow?

Now in the final stretch before freedom this car ride seemed to take a billion years when in reality it should've only been a couple hours. You'd think being in the back seat with your boyfriend while your personal driver took you would make things better...but of course not. Honestly Sera wasn't even sure what the problem was today. She was scrolling through her IG with one earbud in listening to music, and the other ear free "listening" to whatever Phineas had to say because there was always something. She was pretty sure he felt some type of way about her choosing to room with Elle instead of him, but why he felt some type of way about it confused her.

A phantom of a smile graced her lips however seeing a photo pop up of them from two years ago. Ah, simpler times. Maybe this trip away from the cameras, away from everything could give them a glimpse of those days again. "What do you think of going social media free this week? Like we can still take pictures and stuff, but just you know...maybe wait to post them?"

PHINEAS BARCLAY

Phineas was annoyed. Not so much that Sera had chosen Elle as her roommate on this trip over him, but more so the fact that she hadn't consulted him about it first and now that she seemed to totally not care about the implications. It was so easy for media to grab up small things like this and twist it, make them look bad. He could already imagine outlets suggesting that the pair was on bad terms, using their distance on this vacation as a source of potential drama and rumors. He had been trying to explain this to Sera as they sat side-by-side in the backseat of her family's limo, but she didn't even seem to be listening to him. Just scrolling on her phone. Pouting, Phineas turned his head to glare out the window, seething over how typical it was for her to be absorbed in her own little world. His attention was drawn back as she suggested going social media free for the duration of their trip. He turned back to her, raising an eyebrow inquisitively. His dark brown gaze dropped to her phone screen, sighting the throwback picture she had pulled up. He pursed his lips, the memory of when the photo was taken filling his mind. It had been at the beginning of their relationship. Things had seemed so easy back then. He remembered thinking that they'd never disagree on anything. How could they? They were basically the same person. They just understood each other. Releasing a small sigh, Phineas leaned his head against Sera's, letting their hair intermingle and taking in her sweet, familiar scent. He really did still love her. Despite everything. It was just hard sometimes. Everything was harder than it used to be. "I'm down. My mom will hate me for it, but I don't really care. She's already told her followers about me going on this trip. It was a pretty cringe blog post though, I kinda wanna get back at her by just not engaging." He chuckled softly. His mother had described the trip as his "emergence into manhood" and as his "last exploration of adolescence before his next great adventure of college and deepening his relationship with Sera". Then, she'd gone on to give a slew of tips on how to let your children embrace new experiences such as this one as they got older. Making herself out to be the perfect mom doing the perfect things as usual. It made him grimace to remember. He hated having his whole life written out like that, like he had a narrator there to direct his every thought, his every movement. "Let's go social media free, then. Maybe it'll be good for us." He agreed. The boy gave her a small smile and then took one of her hands in his own, weaving their fingers together. He leaned his head back against the expensive leather seat and closed his eyes, feeling the slight jostle and movement of the limo as it made it's way towards the villa.

Sera noticed from the corner of her eyes Phineas turn to look out the window. The tension in the air was thick and she knew he was mad...again. She caught bits and pieces of why, but it still didn't make sense. Should she have told him first? Sure, she can admit that. Honestly she figured he'd want some space, and the parts about how the media would take it also didn't phase her. Unless they talk about sleeping in separate rooms how would anyone know? Also wouldn't it be even more scandalous if they were in the same room? People would then start talking about them sleeping together, and that wasn't something she wanted to deal with. Sure some fans assumed since they were teenagers after all, but they have never confirmed that sort of thing. Her parents would actually kill her if something like that went public. Her mother had the 'no nudes or sex tapes' talk with her freshman year, and that was awkward enough to scare her straight.

She was surprised by his reaction to her question. She was never sure anymore how he'd react to things. She wasn't sure when she started feeling like she was stepping on egg-shells around him when they were in private, but she hated it. Loved and adored him, she just hated this particular feeling. Feeling his head rest against hers she let out a mirroring sigh of relief. It felt nice. It was so nice she actually closed her eyes and let her phone rest in her lap a moment just soaking up the moment because who knew how fleeting it would be. "So will mine! Oh I actually saw that. Well it was sent to me by my mom. Not surprisingly my mother texted me right afterwards saying we needed to film my 'send off' so that'll get posted sometime today by her. She didn't wanna look like she was competing with your mom even though she totally is." She grinned giggling a bit.

She nodded her smile widening as he agreed, "I think so too! Though we are gonna have to tell the others to be really effective." she hated that every part of everything about them was always for the world to see, so just this once she wanted something to be theirs. Something only them and their closest friends will get to know about. Maybe just maybe they can find that warmth they used to have. "Lacey will probably have the hardest time." She laughed knowing her friend all too well. She gave a slight squeeze to their woven hands before leaning her head on his shoulder. "Thank you." She whispered softly before turning up the volume on her ear bud.

PHINEAS BARCLAY

Phineas felt a touch of relief as Sera's attention returned to him. It seemed there was a distance between them so often these days, a divide made of their own self-absorbance. When she admitted to having seen his mother's blog post, Phineas released a groan, his head rolling back against the plush leather seat. "So embarrassing." He grumbled. "Of course she did, they're so freaking weird sometimes. Like they want us to be so close to each other that we're basically the same person, but also somehow want us to be able to compete with each other. So much fun." He guffawed with a shake of his head that caused his blonde locks to fall over his deep brown eyes. The topic also gave rise to some nostalgia for the boy. He and Sera had first bonded over their unorthodox relationship with their parents. It had been so nice to finally find someone who not only had a similar upbringing, but also had very similar feelings about it all. It had seemed like she was the only one who understood him. The only person that ever really could.

Sera was obviously happy about the no social media rule, and that made him feel a sense of appeasement as well. He did always like to please her. "Ha, you really think we can get all of them to get on board with this? We might have to bribe Lacey." Phineas snickered, thinking of all their extravagant friends that they'd be seeing shortly. He really hoped that the social media thing would be doable, and that it wouldn't blow up in their faces later. He knew his mom would be upset about the lack of updates, but what could she do? It would feel nice, like a tiny win in his overly sheltered life, to be able to make this one decision for himself. And it really would be pleasant to spend some time just focusing on his relationships without the constant pressure to perform.

Sera thanked him and rested her head against his shoulder and the boy felt a lump of guilt form in his throat. It was easy when they were on bad terms to justify some of the things he'd done in their relationship, the ways he'd messed up. It was harder to ignore his own flaws and the shame they caused during sweet moments like this. And maybe that's why he intentionally avoided having many sweet moments these days. Not daring to speak with the tightness in his vocal cords, the boy simply responded to her gratitude by pressing a kiss softly against her temple before resting his own head on top of hers. She wasn't perfect, but then again, neither was he.

Moments like this Sera almost forgot the two weren't like this all the time. Moments like this made all the disconnects and misunderstanding fade into the background. She wanted to soak in this feeling and never let it go. Did they have to get out of the car? Could they just ride off into the sunset and never look back on anything? Sure they'd miss their friends, but what else would they truly lose? It was a nice thought until reality would set in because their faces would be recognized almost anywhere they'd try to escape to. Nope, there was no running when the world knows your name. Still a girl could dream right?

"They're super weird. The only thing worse was Dad trying to be 'teary eyed' about it all." She rolled her eyes while using finger quotes to recount the memory. She love her parents, but they were a lot all the time. Phineas was the only person who made going through all of it feel bearable. Like it was all worth it because it lead them to each other. Call her a hopeless romantic if you want, but despite everything she still believed they were meant for one another. Not on some stupid fantasy stuff the magazines push, but because of genuine connection.

"Ok maybe not all of them, but at least convince them not to post stuff with US in it you know? At least not while we are here." She explained hoping that it would sound better once they were in front of her friends then it did right now. "I think I can manage that." She giggled referring to her best friend. She had a way of always getting what she wanted in the end, so she wasn't too worried about it. Feeling the light peck on her head she nestled in and enjoyed the rest of the ride.

Of course the most peaceful part of the ride was the shortest lived. It felt like she blinked and suddenly they were at the villa. She grinned looking out the window, "Not bad." Was it the most luxurious place she'd ever been? No, but it came pretty close especially for something a bunch of high school seniors could pitch in to afford. The limo parked and she excitedly pecked Phinehas's cheek before stepping out. The driver had already started uploading their bags, and taking them inside. There was no way for him to know where to take them, so she told him to just leave them in the living room. She'd either convince Phineas or some other guy here to bring them to her room later. "Let's go find everyone and tell them the news." She hummed sliding her hand in his and interlocking them before walking inside trying to listen for where the others are. "Sounds like some are out back." She chimed faintly recognizing the ring of her friend Adi's voice.

Lacey

“God, could you two be any more fucking annoying?" Lacey wrinkled her nose as she cast a glance over to her sister, followed by a backwards glare to the freak in the backseat. Said freak grinned widely at her, lifting his midnight blue painted fingernails to wave them at her. Scoffing and rolling her eyes, Lacey looked back at the road, eyes still narrowed and her mouth pinched into a thin line. "And what the fuck are we even listening to? Why can't we go back to my spotify playlist? I made one specifically for this trip, and you two vetoed it from the beginning. It's my car, damnit."

Okay, maybe she was whining a little bit, but jesus-- she could only take so much of the screaming and the weird beats and tempos. She was getting a migraine, and stopping for some medication would only make them even later. Granted, it was her fault they were late to begin with, but still. Well, she'd take 50% of the blame-- the other 50% could fall on Elle, her airheaded sister. The two of them, while both blonde and beautiful, couldn't be more different. Night and day, really. It wasn't unusual for Elle to be running late, but Lacey took it as a personal failure that she hadn't realized she needed a tire change until this morning. It'd set her whole attitude up for failure, actually.

But then again, the closer they were getting to the beach house, the lighter she felt. Ignoring the way the music made her feel, of course. Stopping at a red light, she glanced at the GPS, grinning when it said they were only fifteen minutes away. "Perfect." Flipping down the sun visor, she slid open the mirror and ran her fingers through her long, wavy hair, fluffing it from where it'd flattened on the trip. Pursing her lips, she pouted before she looked down. "Elle, did you take my-- nevermind, found it." Plucking her plumping lip gloss from the center console, she twisted the cap off and applied another few coats.

When the car behind her beeped, she turned an annoyed look to her rearview mirror. "Impatient asshole." She muttered, closing her lip gloss and tucking it into her bra. Snapping the mirror closed and the visor right after, she removed her foot from the brake and pressed on the other pedal, lifting a perfectly manicured middle finger to give the beeper the bird when they flew around her. "Hope your funeral's important." She muttered, dropping her hand after he was gone. "Okay, seriously, I can't take anymore of this. We have ten minutes; we're listening to my music." Making a face at her sister, she flipped through the stations until she found a song she liked. "Perfect."

That is, until Corey burst out singing from the backseat. "Oh, godddddd." She groaned, though she turned her face a little bit to hide the smirk trying to tug at her lips. Corey could be funny at times; she'd give him that. But he was a weird one, and it was safe to say they weren't besties. But he sang along the whole time until they reached the beach house, and he was the first to hop out of the car before she even shifted into park. Lacey, however, took her time, applying another coat of lip gloss before she found her phone and pulled up tiktok, checking her selfie appearance before she went live. And then she got out of the car, talking to her audience as she headed inside the house. "And here we are-- party house of the year, right here. Isn't it stunning? Oh, I see Sera and Phineas!" As far as Lacey was concerned, she was right on time.

Corey

It was no secret to anybody- Corey included- that he wasn't everybody's cup of tea. Between the two sisters up in the front of the car, he was obviously on better terms with Elle, though he saw the way that Lacey tried not to laugh at his antics sometimes. He knew she thought he was funny, and really, that was enough for him. He didn't need to be best friends with her; it was enough that she let him in the car to ride to the beach house with them. Which they were gonna be late arriving to, but since when had Corey cared about being on time? Even if this time wasn't his fault-- he'd been to their place on time. Even if Lacey had made him wait out by the car. It'd been the two of them who were late.

But oh well, shit happens. Lounging in the backseat that he had all to himself, he spent most of the trip singing or browsing stupid websites on his phone. He had social media, but compared to how some people viewed it as though it was everything to them, Corey could care less. He probably had two, maybe three pictures on his instagram and he'd be lucky if he remembered the password. Just another thing he didn't care about. There were more important things than social media and being on time. Like the correct brand of eyeliner, nickel free jewelry, and jolly ranchers. Which he definitely had a bag of currently.

"It's Black Veil Brides. You'd love their lead singer, Lace. He's a dime." Corey grinned up at her, wiggling his eyebrows suggestively and busting out laughing at the face she made. He then went back to scrolling on his phone, though he did look up when he heard the other car honk their horn. "Dick." He muttered, flipping them off from the backseat as well. Lacey finally vetoed his choice in music, but what she didn't know was that he listened to a wide variety. So her bubblegum pop song? Of course he knew it, and he busted the lyrics out loudly from the backseat to prove it.

When they finally arrived at the beach house, Corey burst out of the car like a man who'd seen land for the first time in months. He hated sitting still, okay? Glancing back at the other two, he grinned at Elle. "Come on! We've got weed to smoke; I can smell it." He couldn't, actually, but it'd be far-fetched to assume nobody here had weed. Grinning to himself, he grabbed his bag from the backseat and practically skipped his way up to the front door, bursting in. "S'cuse me, thank you very much." Not even looking at who he was passing as he made his way to the backyard.

"Party's here, bitchesssss." He chuckled to himself as he adjusted his bag, frowning when he realized he hadn't even dropped it off anywhere. Shrugging, he dropped it right where he was standing to come back to later, finally looking up and around to see who was out there. "Oh, fuck yes. A hot tub." Walking closer to the hot tub, he ditched his shoes and socks-- and then hopped right in, squeezing between people to ensure there was space for himself, still practically fully clothed. Stretching his arms out on either side of him, he grinned at the others already in, his eyes zeroing in on the joint a few people away. "You mind sharing? I've got some in my bag for later, but... sharing's caring, right?"

PHINEAS BARCLAY

Phineas rolled his eyes, a smile toying at the corners of her lips as she detailed her parents actions. It was so similar to so many of his own experiences. His mother was the master of fake crying, sobbing on camera out of happiness and pride for her baby boy or crying in an overreaction something 'devastating' that was in fact, simply not devastating. It made his skin crawl how easy it was for her, how it was almost second-nature to put on a fake face and make up a story and then sell it as your truth.

The boy nodded his head in agreeance with her plan to hinder their friends social media usage during the week. "I think that sounds doable. Hopefully." And then in reference to Sera's social media-obsessed best friend, Phineas shot her a look of uncertainty. "I'll believe it when I see it." He said, only partially joking. Lacey was an influencer, after all. Asking her to not post would be like asking her to pull the plug on her own life support. No easy task.

The drive seemed to go by faster after that, once the couple had found their contentment with each other. It was something they never seemed quite able to hold onto for as long as they wanted. The boy lowered his head to peer out the window as they pulled up to the villa, his coffee-colored optics taking in the exterior. It was certainly nice. He thought it looked a little smaller than it had in the pictures, but it still promised a fun-packed week. "This is going to be such a fun week." He predicted, unbuckling and making his way out of the limo. "And, hey, Sera... I just wanted to say... I'm not mad that you're staying with Elle. I hope you have fun. Just... Maybe come visit my room one of these nights? I'd really love to get to spend some time with you one-on-one. You know, away from parents." He informed her while they waited for their bags to be unloaded. And it was mostly the truth. Sure, there was still a hint of bitterness in him at the entire thing, but he didn't feel like it was something worth fighting over. Not right now, anyway. Not when they were about to be surrounded by friends and people who would be witnessing the dynamics of their relationship for a week straight. He needed to try to make things go as smoothly as possible.

Phineas happily allowed Sera to lead him by the hand through the resort, following the sound of their friends' voices. Before they could make it to the back, however, they were halted by the familiar, sing-songy voice of Lacey. Phineas instinctively tensed, his fingers squeezing Sera's more tightly. He knew before he'd even turned around that she was doing a live-stream, based entirely on the way she was talking. "So much for going social media free." The blonde murmured to his girlfriend. He lifted their interlocked fingers to his lips, planting a kiss on the back of her hand, before turning around to face the influencer. "Hey, Lace." Phineas greeted her with a bright smile. He'd become so accustomed to putting on a front whenever a camera was pointed at him that it just came naturally at this point.

~Elle~

Elle always seemed to have a smile on her face. She didn't care when they had to get the tire changed, didn't care when Corey broke out in belching song. If anything, it made her giggle. And when Lacey kicked Corey's music off the radio, Elle joined him in singing the pop song Lacey chose. It was fun! Calming, even. She kept her hand out the window, just enjoying the feeling of the wind under her hand and the sun on her skin. She'll get to feel this more when they arrive.

Upon arrival, of course Corey jumped out first and Elle giggled again, hurrying to follow. She didn't smoke weed and he knew that, but who was she to correct him? It was fun just hanging out around him. Elle caught Lacey's disapproving frown, but she continued on, following Corey. While her sister was busy reapply more lip gloss, Elle merely pulled her hair - the same long honey blonde hair - into a loose braid, strands slipping out. But it didn't bother her as she followed Corey to the backyard after setting their bags downs.

Well, she set hers down on the couch. He just dumped his, but it's basically the same thing anyway. Elle followed Corey out, letting out a bright laugh at him climbing into the hot tub fully clothed. She smiled at all the other people, not noticing the slight awkwardness that had appeared with Corey's clothed presence in the water.

"Hiya! Sorry we're late, had to get the tire changed." She waves her hand dismissively before sitting down, criss-crossed on a large cushioned chair, facing the hot tub.

IMG_1245.jpeg
Mati had been lounging, sunk low in the hot tub with his arms stretched out and the joint making lazy rounds, when the energy shifted again. He clocked it right away—new voices, new footsteps, new chaos incoming.

Then the back door opened again, and there she was.

The girl who had called out earlier—Adi—was already making his brain short-circuit, but now a whole parade of new people started to flood in. First, another girl with stormy blue eyes and a mischievous smirk plopped down in the grass with a sketchbook. “Oh, for your information, I’m drawing a bunch of fairies. Not you,” she said… and then immediately added, “Unless you want to. Paint me like one of your French girls and all that shit.”

Mati blinked.
“…Yo.”

That was all he could manage at first. He gave a half-laugh, half-snort as he glanced down at his plain-ass boxers, ink-covered chest, and fully “I’m too high for this” slouch in the bubbling water.

“Damn, I didn’t realize I was already someone’s muse,” he muttered with a lazy grin, shifting slightly so that the tattoos on his arm caught more of the light. He managed to play it cool, but inside? Fully recalibrating his entire level of awareness. That made like, what, three really attractive new people in the span of fifteen minutes? He needed a drink, and maybe a towel.

As if summoned by chaos, Corey burst outside like a walking meme, fully clothed, fully unbothered, and immediately cannonballed into the hot tub, water sloshing everywhere. Mati instinctively leaned away from the splash zone, raising one hand in defense.

“Ayo!” he called out, laughing through the small wave that hit his chest. “Corey, my dude, I respect the enthusiasm, but you’re gonna walk outta here in a denim wetsuit.”

Next came Elle, bubbly as always, greeting everyone like they were at a backyard barbecue and not mid-hotbox in a luxury tub. Mati nodded in her direction too, managing a smirk. “Tire change or not, y’all just brought the second wave of the party.”

But then came them.

Sera and Phineas.

Royalty energy. Magazine-cover energy. Everyone knew them, everyone had an opinion. They looked like a walking ad for vintage romance. And as they strolled in hand-in-hand like they owned the whole coastline, Mati suddenly became hyperaware of the fact that he was shirtless, high, and sitting in his boxers while everyone else was still dry and dressed.

He cleared his throat, casually adjusting his posture, sitting a little straighter in the water like that made a damn difference. Then, smoothly—classic Mati—he redirected with a grin:

“Okay, seriously—who’s got the aux? I feel like we need Santeria by Sublime or some shit before this turns into a social experiment. Someone pass me a drink and some dignity.”

The line got a few laughs, and that’s all he needed. He leaned back into the water again, flicking his fingers through the bubbles, playing it cool as always—even if his head was still spinning from the flood of hot people and back-to-back introductions.

Summer was just getting started. And apparently? So was the heat.

PJ hoped the drink in their hand would excuse their reddened cheeks. The blush was a result of a gay panic caused by a suddenly less dressed Vee sitting in the hot tub, the bubbles in the water roaring enough to blur her body in black and blue waves under them. The look Seth had given Vee hadn't gone unnoticed by his more observant ex. PJ could see the the look on his face after Vee had stripped off her clothing, leaving nothing but a matching pair of black underwear and bra for the guys and gays to gawk at. Though, PJ hadn't expected the sight of their ex's leg over another person's, or the loose arm around Vee's shoulders to stir something unsettled in their stomach. Two could play at this game if that's how the week was going to go.

"You know what, yeah, let's go Vee! Except when I win, you gotta skinny dip in the ocean tonight." A mischievous grin played at PJ's lips as they raised a fist up to duel in this high-stakes game of Rock Paper Scissors.

~

When more of the party crowd started rolling in, PJ found their eyes wandering among the group of attractive teenagers around them on the back porch. The buzz of good vibes and excitement to celebrate the last 12-13 years of forced schooling circulated in the air, and PJ was ready to feel the numb of alcohol and weed blur their anxieties and overthinking away. Sipping on their alcoholic strawberry concoction and finishing off the roach of one of the joints floating around, PJ smushed it down into one of Cody's ashtrays he had already on his little smoking station tray---all nice and neat with any tools he'd need to pack a bowl for the rest of the week. He sure knew how to make himself at home and PJ loved this about Cody. That's how they naturally came to be friends, anyway.

One day Cody had seen PJ sitting outside on the steps of the economics building at school back in 9th grade. Everything was overwhelming and bigger, louder, and more chaotic in high school and PJ was having themself a little anxiety attack after their last class of the day. Cody had exited the building late after his teacher pulled him aside for smelling like weed---ultimately choosing to let the taller boy off with a warning because he was a good kid, after all. Cody just sat next to them on the stairs, dug into the pocket of his shorts, and whipped out a half-smoked joint. He lit it up and passed it over to PJ, who looked around nervously before reluctantly taking a small puff from it. The rest was history.

"Adi," PJ smirked at the dark haired girl. "You made it." They acknowledged nonchalantly before turning their attention to the now packed bowl of the bong Cody brought. After watching him take green after his hard work of preparing it, PJ set their drink down and took the bong from Cody and lit it up, nurturing the perfect cloud within the stem, inhaling it deep into their lungs, waiting a few seconds before exhaling in a massive cloud. An eruption of coughs followed the rip. In between coughs, PJ glanced over at the girl sitting criss-cross-applesauce on the ground.

"Do you draw fairies because you, yourself, are a fairy?" PJ joked, walking over to the red-headed girl and crouching down to sneak a peak at her work. "Can I see?" They stuck out a hand with a friendly smile. "Don't think we've met. I'm PJ."

Watching PJ's exhale blow out thick clouds into the air, Cody smiled and nodded his head slowly, his eyes nothing but thin slits in this moment. "Look at lil man go." He encouraged, earning him a laugh from PJ.

High on life, and literally high, happy in this moment with a group of old and new friends, Cody cheered as whoever was in charge of the aux actually put on "Santeria" by Sublime per Mati's request. "Hell yeah, this is where it's at!" he gleamed, moving his body gently along to the music. Nothing could kill this dude's vibe, man. When PJ handed the bong back to Cody, he passed it off to Mati to continue the rotation.

Being the lightweight he was when he drank alcohol, he was already feeling those shots, and now having smoked a bit, safe to say Cody was feeling pretty good. The setting sun cast its rays out across the ocean waves, warmly kissing his skin as he stood and made his way out into the sand of their temporary backyard. "Anyone care to join me for a swim?" He hollered as he picked up his pace, kicking up sand in his clumsy strides toward the shore.

He was a summer baby through and through, a lover of water and the beach. As far as he was concerned, this right here, was the real reason why he was here.

Cody peeled his top shirt off, his green short-sleeve button up, and then his crystal tee underneath it. He ran and left the clothes astray in the sand, unbuttoning his light-wash jeans and nearly tripping as he quickly stepped out of them while he took another step toward the water. Finally, wearing only a pair of loose plaid boxer shorts, Cody ran full force into the ocean, letting the water wash over him as the waves took him in. He jumped up with the oncoming wave in perfect synergy and let out a happy scream into the sky, letting his hand sweep his hair out of his eyes. He could still hear the music playing from his spot in the water, and he floated, looking onward at the sunset as if he were his own personal heaven.

Sera smiled letting his words ring in her mind. She would definitely come to see him, probably most nights rather than just one. She just wanted the option of space it they wanted it. But he seemed serious and committed to trying to heal parts of their relationship, so if he was willing she of course was too. It gave a warm sense of hope she hadn't felt in a while. That's warmth was quickly overshadowed by the buzzing energy that was her best friend.

She really should have texted Lacey because of course the first thing she did upon arrival was get on live. Bags probably weren't even out the car yet, but she was live streaming to the world their vacation. She wasn't mad or anything, in fact under normal circumstances she'd have given Phineas a peck on the cheek for the camera and moved to give the girl a bigger welcome. "It's not too late." She whispered back before they turned to face her.

"Lace!" She shouted giddily throwing her free hand in the air. Just like him the moment she turned her face went into acting mode. A painted dazzling smile graced her lips, with an excitement even she couldn't tell the difference between real and camera ready. At this point it was so embedded in her, she could do it in her sleep. In fact this was easier than sleeping. She placed a finger over her lips looking at the camera, "Hey would your followers like to be the first to know a little secret?" She hummed playing up the fact she was going to make a very big request. "Me and my love," She turned to look up at Phineas and pecking him gently on the lips, "Have decided for our last bit of adolescence we're going to do a social media free challenge." She hummed before shooting a wink back at the camera. "What do you think?"

Corey rushed past, and she watched as he made himself at home in the hot tub...still fully clothes. Yup this was going to be a hell of a week. She caught a glimpse of Elle too, but she figured they could talk later about the rooming situation.

Mati had just passed the joint off and was mid-stretch, half-floating with his head tilted back and the jets working their magic against his spine, when PJ laid down the gauntlet.

“You know what, yeah, let’s go Vee! Except when I win, you gotta skinny dip in the ocean tonight.”

He cracked an eye open.

Oh damn.

The tension in the tub hit a new level, subtle but spicy. PJ was usually chill, but that tone? The challenge? That was loaded. He didn’t even need to glance between them to clock the situation—he felt it in the air.

Mati sat up slightly, resting his arms along the ledge again, pretending he wasn’t clocking the shifting dynamics like some high-ass oracle of beach house drama. The way PJ looked at Seth’s leg casually flung over Vee? The way Vee didn’t flinch? Oh yeah. Things were simmering.

Still, when PJ walked over to the new redhead sketching on the grass and threw out the “Do you draw fairies because you, yourself, are a fairy?” line, Mati had to bite back a smirk.

Smooth recovery, bro.

Just as the laughter and weed-fueled haze started to settle again, Santeria came on through the speakers, and Mati visibly perked up.

“Yooo, someone actually listened to me? That’s what I’m talkin’ about.” He grinned, swaying slightly with the beat. “Let’s get some vibe balance in here before PJ ends up skinny dipping out of pure spite.”

Then Cody, good ol’ sun-soaked, vibe-immortal Cody, decided to go full dolphin mode.

“Anyone care to join me for a swim?”

Mati turned just in time to see Cody peel off his layers one by one and run straight toward the ocean, plaid boxers flapping like a victory flag. A splash followed, then a yell of pure freedom that echoed over the waves.

Mati blinked. “Aight,” he muttered. “That man is straight-up living in a Corona commercial.”

The bong passed to him and he took a hit, slow and easy. He let the smoke drift out with the fading sunlight, eyes following Cody out in the water like he was watching a wildlife documentary in real time.

Still shirtless, still soaked, still very much in his basic-ass black boxers, Mati glanced around the packed hot tub and realized: he was probably the only one still overthinking it.

So what if he looked like the chill guy in a skater ad who forgot his swim trunks? So what if half the people here looked like they were born to be on camera and he was here being the human version of "it's not that deep, bro"?

He gave a low chuckle and looked around the circle.

“Alright,” he said, lifting his drink. “We’ve got weed, vibes, and unspoken hot tub tension. I’d say we’re doing this beach trip right.”

He paused. “...But real talk, if PJ wins that bet, I’m getting popcorn. That’s cinema.”

And with that, he took another hit, leaned back into the jets, and let Sublime, sunset, and low-key chaos wrap around him like a perfect summer blanket.

~ ELLE ~

Elle laughed merrily again watching the bickering and smoking friends around her. She didn't seem to pick up on the simmering tension, but then again... She never picked up on anything.

When Cody decided to run into the water, Elle grinned and jumped up.
"Ooh! I'll join!"
She tugged at Corey's soaked shirt, trying to get her high friend out of the hot tub.
"Come on, Corey! Let's go swimming in the ocean!!"

Elle is like a puppy. Always running around, happy to just be there. She ran down towards the water, smiling and laughing. She quickly stepped out of her own clothes until she's left in just a simple black sports bra and underwear combo. But she quickly ran into the cold, salty waves.

Her honey gold hair is still braided back, but the water and wind has ripped some strands free. It frames her face, her blue eyes sparkling in the sun as she laughs alongside her friends.

Adi hadn’t even taken her shoes off yet.

She stood at the edge of the hot tub, perfectly dry and perfectly dressed. She wore a black tank top, loose linen pants, gold hoops glinting in the fading light like she’d planned this whole outfit for a Vogue feature titled “Beach House Chic: I Don’t Swim, I Supervise.” And honestly? She did.

“You leave me alone for ten minutes and suddenly it’s a full-blown weed sauna in here?”
Adi teased, lips curled into a playful grin as she watched PJ cough through a lungful. “I love that for you.”

She leaned against the side of the tub, one hand braced against the edge, her tone faux-scandalized. “Also, bold of you all to start the party without me. Who’s in charge of guest management around here? Because clearly, they’re fired.”

She didn’t reach for the bong. Didn’t even pretend to. Instead, she tilted her head and sighed, dramatically sweeping her gaze across the waterlogged chaos. “And here I am, overdressed, underappreciated, and painfully sober.”

Before anyone could offer a witty reply, the screen door creaked open behind her.

Adi turned, automatically smoothing a hand down her already-perfect hair.

Sera.

“Babe!” Her voice lifted, bright and warm and sugar-sweet. She opened her arms without hesitation, like this whole beach trip had been their idea together and not just a semi-accidental overlap. “Took you long enough! I was just about to declare a fashion emergency. Thank God someone finally showed up who understands taste.”

She stepped in to loop an arm around Sera’s shoulders in a soft but firm little side-hug, all affection and no bite.

Then-

“Phineas.”
Adi’s tone dropped just slightly, flirt turned up to a subtle simmer. Her eyes flicked over his frame and lingered for just a second too long. “That shirt is illegal in six states, right? You should be ashamed. Or proud. Honestly, both.”

With her arm still casually around Sera, she looked back at the group like nothing had shifted at all. “So. Someone catch me up. Who’s winning the unofficial Hot Tub Olympics? And which one of you is gonna be a darling and fix me a drink before I start being dramatic?”

PHINEAS BARCLAY

Phineas spectated as Sera worked her magic on Lacey and her followers, putting on a show just as well as he did, probably even better. They'd grown up with a video recording their every progression. It was engraved in their very being. He returned the kiss she gave him, bowing his head slightly to close the distance between them, lingering on her lips momentarily with a romantic smile on his lips like he was the only man who had ever truly been in love.
He was impressed by her convincing display. He wouldn't be surprised if they actually were able to pull off this whole social media-free thing.

As they continued their voyage to the rest of their group, they were met with another all-too-familiar face. Adi. Phineas's hand dropped from Sera's as the latina swooped in, giving the pair space to hug. Phineas wetted his lips, watching their affectionate display until Adi's dark gaze met with his. "Hey, Adi." He greeted, lowly, casually. Still, he felt his skin temperature rise a couple degrees as the woman's optics travelled over him. He looked down at himself as she analyzed his outfit. "Illegal in a good way or illegal in a bad way?" He queried, but deciding that he wasn't sure if he wanted to hear the answer in front of Sera, he cleared his throat with an 'ahem' and quickly moved on. "I can go get all of us going on drinks. Sera, love, what can I get for you?" He volunteered. He was usually careful about his alcohol consumption, with his image he had to look after and everything, but he needed something to distract himself. "And Adi, I can take your order too." He added as if it was an afterthought, although the way his eyes loitered on hers said otherwise.

Vee smiled to herself, hand still outstretched, at Seth’s legs now over hers. Especially in front of Pj, it felt like a small win, if you could call it that. More people were arriving, a flurry of hellos - some jumping into the hot tub or placing themselves around it. Vee hadn’t been able to fully acknowledge who had arrived, yet.

"You know what, yeah, let's go Vee! Except when I win, you gotta skinny dip in the ocean tonight."

Vee smiled, she wouldn’t mind going skinny dipping if she did lose - and maybe she could convince a few to join her. “Best two out of three, okay?” she said, beginning to bounce one hand on another.

After a few ties, Vee lost - hands down. As in, she did not win one single hand. “Oh my god! I was played!” she said, pointing to Pj, “You didn’t tell me you were a rock paper scissors PRO,” she said, flopping back in the hot tub and - conveniently - into Seth’s arm. “Oh well, I mean, skinny dipping sounds fun,” she laughed, “The loss of the snack tray is really the biggest L,” she said, placing her hand on Seth’s leg under the water.

Vee finally took in the scene around her, now that she wasn’t focused on comically losing rock paper scissors to an almost embarrassing level. Quite a few new people had arrived in the meantime. “Hey guys!” she yelled out of the hot tub, “Does anyone see my drink??”

Mati.jpeg
Matías "Mati" Calloway
Mati had been lounging with that post-joint haze, half-listening to PJ and Vee’s rock-paper-scissors showdown while Santeria played, watching Cody become one with the ocean like it was his natural habitat. And then—

Elle popped up like a human golden retriever, tugging on Corey’s shirt and yelling about swimming.

“Come on, Corey! Let’s go swimming in the ocean!”

Mati raised a brow, blinking slow as Elle sprinted across the sand and just fully stripped down like this was a perfume commercial. Between the glowing braid, wind-whipped strands, and literal sparkle in her eye—she made running into the Pacific look like a spiritual cleanse.

Meanwhile, he was over here in his washed-out boxers, still damp from the tub, and actively trying not to look like the background character in everyone else’s movie.

Then Adi showed up with her editorial perfection, gold hoops catching the light, casually roasting the hot tub crowd and making even her sarcasm feel expensive.

And now, Vee was flopping dramatically into Seth’s arm, PJ was glowing in their win, and Adi and Sera were linking arms like the Power Couple Summit had just been called to order.

Mati took all of that in and exhaled slowly.
“…Yeah, alright. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.”

He stood up from the hot tub in one smooth motion, water cascading off his chest and inked arms, and hopped the ledge like he was stepping into a battlefield. Steam trailed behind him as he crossed the deck barefoot, muttering, “No one’s gonna outdo me on spontaneity, I swear to God.”

And then—he ran.

Full send. Boxers and bravado. Straight into the waves like Cody had summoned the ocean gods personally.

What he didn’t expect?

The water. Was. FREEZING.

“HOLY—” he shouted mid-sprint, immediately questioning every life choice he’d made leading up to that point. The icy grip of the Pacific slapped against his legs, then his torso, then his soul.

He dove in anyway. Pride demanded it.

But one second in and he popped back up, sputtering.
“WHY IS IT THIS COLD?! WHO INVITED THE ICE AGE BACK?!”

With all the strength of a man who realized nature didn’t love him back, Mati turned right around and booked it out of the water, dripping and borderline shrieking.

He ran all the way up the sand like a stray cat in a sprinkler, eyes wide, gasping dramatically.

“YO, THE OCEAN IS LYING TO YOU. It looks like summer but it FEELS like betrayal!”

He bee-lined back to the hot tub and practically launched himself in, arms spread wide as he sank into the warm water with a moan that was half relief, half spiritual rebirth.

“Okay. I did it. I lived. I have regrets.” He looked around at everyone now watching, lips twitching into a smirk. “But also? That was brave as hell. Someone pass me my damn drink before I frostbite in July.”

And like that, Mati was back in his element: soaked, slightly shivering, but fully part of the story.

SETH LENSET

He didn't really have the heart to tell Vee that PJ had somehow inherited the Mandate of Heaven exclusively while playing rock-paper-scissors—it was almost inhuman how good they were at such a silly little game. And besides, if PJ was going to put in the work for him to getting Vee naked, Seth figured he should just shut the hell up and let fate play its hand. Sure enough, PJ wiped the absolute floor with Vee, who took the loss with an interestingly petty grace—accepting her defeat with a dramatic flop back into Seth's arms, her hand finding his thigh under the water. Playing along, Seth caught her, his arms under shoulders and his hands finding their way over her stomach. For their part, PJ had checked out and made way toward a very attractive redhead girl plopped down sketching something on a pad without a seeming care in the world. It was nice to see some people from school he was less familiar with, to be honest. Suddenly the energy had doubled, chatter and conversation becoming a constant hum at least near the hot tub there.

"Hey everybody!" Seth smiled, leaning over Vee a bit to address the crowd as he did. "Now we're really gettin' started huh? Gimme a few and I can roll some more joints up, if people wanna smoke?"

At some point during that, Mati said fuck it and decided he wanted to party hard. He rushed out of the hot tub with a passion, rushing directly toward the ocean like he'd seen the second coming of God and was the first to notice. Cody and a few others Seth didn't quite know had decided to take a dip in the ocean; he couldn't blame the guy for wanting to be in on thatespecially a couple of joints deep. When Mati rushed out of the hot tub, Seth hugged Vee close, blocking her from the splashing water as Mati ran off from the hot tub down to the beach and into the water.

"I haven't had a drink yet, want me to grab yoursand your, uh, snack tray or whatever?" Seth asked Vee, gently moving her aside so he could stand up and step out of the hot tub.
Somewhere off toward the not-so-distant beach, he could hear what sounded like Mati's pained shrieking. Maybe he'd need to get Amy and her first aid kit back on the job. "Anybody else need anything from the kitchen? I'll be back in no time."

Of course, Seth's 'in no time' could be anywhere from five minutes to an hour, but that was a different question entirely. And with Cody off in the ocean swimming with the sirens, Seth figured he would have to be in charge of keeping the weed flowing. He wrapped himself in a towel he'd grabbed on the way out to the tub, wiping off his legs and feet before heading toward the still-open sliding door.

"Oh uh...I'm Seth, by the way!" And, hardly having finished his brief introduction, Seth was strutting inside and heading for the stairs. As he started walking down, he heard a splash coming from the hot tub, and he heard Mati shouting, his pain more emotional than physical by the sound of it. Seth grinned, shrugged, and kept walking.

The way Phineas’s hand dropped from Sera’s like he’d been caught made Adi’s smile tighten, for just a breath. She clocked it, tucked the feeling away like she always did, and smoothed it over with something that looked effortless but wasn’t.

Her gaze drifted down the length of him like she had all the time in the world. “Illegal in a very curated, I-woke-up-like-this kind of way,” she said, voice smooth as silk. She didn’t bother to clarify if it was a compliment. She just tossed the line like a bone and turned her attention back to Sera before anyone could linger too long on it.

Of course he jumped to get drinks. Of course he offered Sera’s first, like this was their movie and Adi had just wandered into frame.

She didn’t give the pause long enough to let it sting.

“I’ll take something that looks like it belongs on a yacht and tastes like it might ruin my life,” she said sweetly. Then, with a glint in her eye, “I trust your taste. Sort of.”

She turned back to Sera like the years between them hadn’t sharpened edges they used to soften. Adi leaned in slightly, voice lower but still amused.

“So,” she said, brushing a stray curl behind her ear, “you two playing house for real, or just giving the fans what they want?”

The words were featherlight. But her smile? It had teeth.

And then… Mati.

Half-running, half-screaming across the sand like the hot tub had birthed him. Boxers clinging, inked arms dripping, hollering at the sea like it had personally betrayed him.

Adi turned, just in time to see him launch himself back into the hot tub like it owed him something.

She blinked. Once.

She didn’t laugh, but her mouth curved like she might. Eventually.

Her gaze flicked to the side, and with a perfectly practiced sigh, she added, “For the record, I’m still fully clothed.”

As Mati let out another moan, half-relief, half-performance, Adi raised a brow.

“Are you good, or are we calling an exorcist?” she asked dryly, but the corner of her mouth twitched like she couldn’t quite hold the smirk back.

Because of course he had to be that dramatic. And of course it was kind of funny. And maybe, just maybe, it worked a little too well.

She shook her head, wind catching in her earrings as she settled into her spot by Sera.

To be fair the odds of being 100% off of everyone's social media through the week was unrealistic. They would inevitably be caught in a live or picture background. The real goal was that those glimpses would be all the public and more importantly their family would get. They'd hear nothing from the two of them directly until the week was over. She'd have to settle for that, but at least with Lacey aware of the attempt maybe just maybe the exposure would be limited if not non-existent.

When Adi appeared she already knew what time it was. She embraced the girl back laughing along with her words, "Pretty sure he did." She teased playfully about his shirt. There was always underlying something when Adi was around, but Sera had become an expert at shoving it down and ignoring it because she believed it was just due to factors she couldn't control. She stayed at Adi's side, but her eyes finally started to roam a bit once they both mentioned drinks. Was anyone else getting started already or just them?

When she finally looked at the hot tub crew as well as her friends running into the ocean already, she got her answer. She hoped not too much because fishing drowning friends out the sea was not how she wanted to spend the evening. She turned back to Phineas, "You already know my favorites, love. Just remember it's day one and I gotta last all week please." She smirked before leaning over to whisper in his ear, "And all night." she pulled back slowly letting a sultry smile linger on her lips.

Truth is she's a light weight who just likes super sweet drinks. However drinking made her sleepy before sick, so if he wanted a little visit tonight he'd need to keep things light or else she'll be passed out...hopefully in her own room. She didn't distrust anyone here, but she'd be delusional to think she should trust everyone here blindly when she didn't know all of them as well as others.

Sera laughed hearing Adi's order, "That makes me think of a sparkly sex on the beach." She waited until Phineas started walking away to grab their drinks before turning her attention back to Adi. Well she listened and let her touch her hair, but her eyes weren't on her. They were instead looking at the friends in the ocean thinking maybe just maybe she'd go join them because she knew for sure she wanted no parts of the betting going down in the hot tub. She was so used to Adi being next to her, she didn't even register anymore that they usually stayed linked together. If anything she'd notice her absence more. Her thoughts where broken by the question. She grinned tilting her head teasingly, "Today? I don't have to choose." She hummed happily letting her eyes wonder over to Phineas and then back to Adi, "The ride up was nice. We're really excited for this week together."

It was weird because Lacey and Adi both knew that they weren't the picture perfect couple the world believed they were, but she also didn't always tell them everything. Tip-toing the line was hard, but she felt necessary. It was one of the few lessons she held to her chest from her mother. "So!" She looked between Lacey and Adi, "Who are you two rooming with while here?"
