✯Summer Camp is a Beautiful Thing✯

The Human Soul
"I'm going to hate it here." Aria muttered from deep underneath her breath. Her baby-blue head sat upon the fist of her hand while the curve of her elbow rested on the car windowsill. The figure of her mother sat on the drivers-side, eyes focused on the road which would shortly end. Against her will, Aria's single mother was about to drop her off at a Summer Camp, her mother says it's to keep her 'active' for the summer - but truly, her desire is to keep Aria off of her hands. Away so she would be free from her complaining.

Wearily, the girl frowned slightly as the car pulled into the rough driveway of the camp. Aria chose not to say a word to her mum and with that, she climbed outside of the car, her duffel bag hanging low down to her tanned thighs.

At that moment, Aria found herself entirely overwhelmed by other campers to whom seemed overjoyed to be there - well, at least more overjoyed than herself. And with that thought, the beaming, gold sun which was embedded within the blues of the untouchable sky, Aria unwinded the sunglasses from her locks so they relaxed on the bridge of her nose.

Teenagers of all ages bypassed her, the majority shoving and pushing Aria out of the way causing her to stumble and find it often hard to even stand. She then made her way over to a nearby oak tree so she had plenty of time to regain her balance. Her sharp, brown eyes darted throughout the crowd, particularly on the guidance counselors who seemed kept behind the entrance. And beside them, read a sign: CAMP OKINAWA. Great name for a camp of neglected teenagers... She thought, secretly wishing that perhaps another distinctive soul would share her discomfort and boredom.

Turning around so her attention was to the tree, Aria grabbed her penknife from the depths of her denim jacket, flicked it out so the bitter, acute piece was revealed. She began to carve her initials into the bark, some pieces flitting to the ground while the rest formed around each contour of a letter.

Jacob really didn't want to go to summer camp, he was practically an adult now he didn't see why his parents wanted hin to go so bad. He had his headphones in ignoring the music his dad had blaring through the car, his dad was always tough on him, judging his taste in music. At this point Jacob could really only just suck it up and try to somewhat find some thing fun to do.

Once they pulled up to the camp, his father barely looked at him, he was somewhat of an emotional person, Jacob was his only child so dropping him off at a camp that his wife picked out really wasn't ideal. Jacob grabbed his bags and gave his dad a hug, he knew it would be hard but it is something they would have to get used to before he goes off to college.

Once his dad left he followed the crowd, once he seen the other group of kids that were there he realized why he was sent there. He had been rebelling a lot lately hanging out with people he probably shouldn't. People were shoving others out of the way, he was a bigger guy but he wasn't a big fan of large crowds. he moved out of the group and noticed a few other people standing off as well, he glanced over and seen a girl and figured he would stand next to her.

Aria proceeded to carve the last of her letters into the tree, the sudden feeling of another presence sending shivers down the bone of her spine. Her head turned instinctively to the side to be greeted by a tall, dark-haired boy beside her. The girl could only estimate that he was a year or two older than her, or perhaps the same age - not that he exactly appeared that way.

Without hesitation, she continued back to her carving, her glance still slightly on the boy. Her eyes momentarily took another look at him. They stayed. She waited. Her lips were pursed together as she attempted to remember the history her and him might of shared.

Finishing her final line, Aria turned her attention to Jacob, her head somewhat tilting to the side so she could properly look at him. Shortly the edges to her lips curved up into a friendly smile. Her first smile in the holiday. By this time, her body was fully turned to her childhood friend, the knife of hers once again concealed back inside its metallic shell. "Jacob? Oh my god, is that you?" She said, her tone rather raspy with excitement at what a coincidence this happened to be.

Jacob had basically just been keeping to himself, he noticed the girl who he was standing next to kept staring at him, it was a little strange at first. He glanced over to the girl, something about her seemed oddly familiar, but he was having a little bit of trouble trying to figure it out. She did look a little younger, once he looked backed over at her, something started ringing in his head, he felt like he had known her before, he didn't want to seem weird so he looked down at his phone. He could feel her glaring back at him, but he kept his head down.

Finally he heard her speak, she knew him, she knew his name, once he turned and looked directly at her he figured out exactly who it was. "Aria?" he said getting really excited, it had been what felt like forever hence he had seen her. He didn't want to seem weird by just running and hugging her, so he walked over quickly to get a better look "I can't believe its you, I..." he didn't know what to say, a million things seemed to be running through his head all at once, he felt like he could barely speak.

Aria tucked a blue stray hair behind her smallish ears in attempt to reevaluate the situation. Jacob - her childhood bestfriend - was here, standing before her, and had grown a ton since the last time she had set eyes on him. Perhaps she was going to have a good summer, after all considering Jacob's sudden arrival. Together, the two could cause trouble from about anywhere on the planet. They were similar to two mischievous children that caused havoc among the town, breaking, laughing, at everything and everyone they touched. But of course, Aria did have a small crush on Jacob at the time, something she wasn't entirely pleased about sharing with Jacob himself, but she always thought that she had kept it well as a secret.

At that moment, Aria whirled her arms around Jacob's neck so she could gather on her tip toes and give him an eager hug. Her head only went so far to reaching his chest, thus why she chose to keep it there. "...I can't believe you're here!" She stated, her voice becoming louder than it probably should have. After a few seconds, Aria gave him a final squeeze before reluctantly backing away. Pure energy was seen on the girl's face, "--Wait, why are you here, Jakey?" A nickname Aria would never fail to forget.

" I can't believe you are here" Jacob said hugging her back, he realized how much he missed her, it had been years hence he heard or seen her. He was still in slight shock over it all, now he at least knew one person at the camp, and this would give the two of them a chance to talk and catch up. They used to cause such trouble together, but to them it wasn't it was just them being themselves and having fun. After his family moved he was never really able to find a friend like her again, it was a missing piece. Hearing her call him "Jackey" brought back even more memories. "Well my parents thought that I needed to get away for the summer, meet some different people, how about you?" reflecting back to when they were kids, it seemed like the camp was the best place for them

Nodding her head, Aria could easily understand his situation - it was good that his parents were concerned enough to send him to camp for the right reasons. Unlike her mum, that is. "Well, you know my mom, she just wanted to kick me out of the house so she could have some summer 'romances'." Rubbing the side of her elbow with the tip of her finger, Aria's gaze was drawn back to the crowd of teens. She was ecstatic for the adventures she and Jacob were certain to have. This was only the beginning.

Aria flicked her knife back out from its shell and it held it out to Jacob, her head gesturing toward the tree to which she had just been working on only a few minutes before, "You don't carve into that tree, you owe me a piggyback to the cabins." She teased, although her voice was filtered with seriousness.

" I guess somethings never change" he laughed a little, he could remember their mothers getting along nicely, but also they did agree on somethings. Thankfully Jacob and Aria got along very well, and he was hopeful that they could get back to that close friendship that they had before. He glanced back over to the large crowd of people, all of them looked like they absolutely did not want to be there. He looked back down at her, he could remember the times they shared, and just how much she did mean to him, he wasn't afraid to admit that he may of had a crush on her when they were kids, but he really didn't think much of it at the time, because well they were kids. But who knows, maybe something would happen between them.

He looked at her, it was a strange request, carve something in the tree, he was tough so giving a piggyback ride didn't seem like a bad idea. He took the knife, he looked at it, and handed it back and reached into his own back pocket and grabbed his, it was slightly larger then hers, but not too much. He just carved "Hi" into the tree and then placed the knife back in his pocket and gave her a sinister smile.

Aria felt herself chuckle as Jacob rejected her tool, and of course, revealed to have one himself. Though, she wouldn't have expected any less from her dearest friend. At the same time, the girl rolled her eyes playfully as she watched him carve "Hi" into the rough bark. Sighing, Aria felt her face grow hot at the sinister smile he possessed on his lips. Still holding her knife, she shortly found herself reaching for his strong hand and connected it onto the shaft  of her knife. Aria's hands covered his, guiding the blade as best as she could. Attempting, she wrote out his initials, "Why do you have to be so difficult, Jakey?" Her words were soft while her shoulder pressed against his forearm.

He just watched her as she took his hand and the knife and started carving his initials into the tree, he could have pulled away be he didn't, he just let her finish. "Haven't I always been difficult" he laugh at her and just watched her. It brought him back to when they were kids, he felt bad because he didn't keep in contact with her. "Which cabin is yours" he asked, he figured his would be probably clear across the camp from hers, most places wouldn't let guys and girls stay in the same cabins.

Aria proceeded to carve letter by letter into the bark, the feeling of Jacob's eyes staring a hole into the back of her head, making her heartbeat faster, increase inside her chest, pounding to get out. "Yes, you have." She said, finishing with a final line. She hated to say that it was... nice to feel her friend's hands like from before when they use to pretend that they were married. When they were younger, Aria would play the wife while Jacob would play the husband. She could remember, them making pretend vows, pretend children, pretend types of affection, pretend holding hands. Hard things to forget even if it was over 10 years ago. Aria let go of his hand and backed away, her mind still reminiscing. "Cabin 3CF." Her hand went to gesture toward the third cabin on the left of the campsite, "C'mon, I'll race you... 1... 2..."
