[Sulfurix and Gilmore] Ranch loss

The morning rays, shone threw the window of The Vixen house. Vixi sat on the pourch with her father. She was taking care of him and smiles with a sigh. She was waiting on the city boy with a truck to show up. She had done all the chores today including cleaning and cooking.

She sat on the pourch and fussed over her father. He waved her off and told her to rest. She had been up since 4 and got everything done. Vixi saw a trail of dust behind a vehicle coming down the dirt path. Her face went to a frown. She jumped on her horse Thair and gallop for the gates. She went and unlocked it. She sat waiting on her horse for the truck to reach her. She sighed. She hated cars they polluted the air so much. It is why she hated the city.

Irish Ice Queen

Up at the crack of dawn, Harrison forced his younger sister from bed, the girl protesting by kicking him in the knees. "Get up, Lindsey, I have to get you to school today," he grumbled before pulling her from the bed. He received a few muffled remarks before catching the fist thrown at his gut. "See, you're half way there," he teased before leaving his grumbling sister in her room, going back down to his own room of the medium sized apartment. Harry tugged on a pair of jeans and a plain, faded red t-shirt with an old band name worn over his chest. Tugging on a pair of shoes, he stumbled down the hall and past his sister as she stuffed her mouth with a piece of toast.

It took a while, but he finally got his sister into his old white truck, and hopped in as well. "I'm going to be late!" Lindsey complained. Harrison snorted with a smile on his face; "maybe if you didn't take so long to pick out a shirt." Lindsey punched him in the shoulder as they went on the way to the high school building. Dropping her off, they said their farewells for the time being, and he turned the truck for work like he always did. As he drove down the dirt rode, Harrison grabbed his old football cap, placing it onto his head backwards to where the bill pointed back. A breath filtered out of his nose as he saw the girl on her horse by the gate that was now open for his truck to pass through. Harrison pulled through, guiding the truck into the gates and using a hand to roll the window down with the literal knob (since the truck was so old). Pulling the car to a stop, he hit the door open, knowing he aught to be polite and say hello, even as much as he wished to keep his mouth shut so he wouldn't say something wrong. "Good morning," he called out, one leg on the step up to the cabin of the truck. He didn't mean it, but his face stayed rather plain. A smile from Harrison was a hard thing to get, except for his mother and sister of course--but he really was one to just nod a greeting and be on his way.

Vixi nods to him and adjusted her hat.

"more like afternoon, your late. Work is done for the day, but we can start off simple today.come on I will show you around."She says. She got off Thair to close the gate. She gently smacked the dust off him and got back on.She had one hand in a glove, as she grabbed the reigns. And galloped for the house. Once there, she hoped off thair and tied up the horse. Vixi waited on him to meet her at the big house. When he pulled up.

"Well Welcome to the Vixen Ranch house. Lets get you settled in your room and then I can give you a tour of the farm."Vixi says.

"I am Adelaide Vixen, daughter and soul air of this ranch. This is my father Adam Vixen. Please don't bother him with anything at all he is sick and I dont want to bother him. Hold on one second. "She says she went over to the pourch as her father went to get up. She sighed helping him.

"Pa you need to be resting please. "She begged him. Her face was in a frown of worrie.

"Hey you boy, you help my girl run this place. She can do it, but she needs help and you don't mess with her head you and your city boy crap." He says. He started coughing and almost fell. Vixi caught her father and sighed.

"you need rest, now lets go" Vixi said and lead him inside. She came back after ten minutes.

"sorry my father is not well." She says. "Want a tour first or to see your room?"She asks.

He rubbed the back of his neck, uttering a soft sorry and averting his gaze for a moment. He'd have to drag Lindsey out of bed earlier next time maybe... He gave the woman a nod to her words, pulling his leg back in the truck as he fell silent again. He watched her get off the horse to close the gate, starting up the old truck again. The engine purred to life after a small growl, glancing up to see her already riding off. Harrison shut the door and followed after, keeping a good distance so he wouldn't spook the horse. Okay, maybe he did a bit of research so he wouldn't look like a complete idiot. Shifting the ball cap on his head, Harrison gave a small tap of his fingers against the steering wheel before stopping the truck and pulling out the keys to kill the engine. Pushing the door open, he hopped out and hit the door shut with his shoulder, shoving the keys and his hands into his pockets casually. He looked up to the big house, brows rising in slight surprise to how large it was compared to both his childhood home and his current apartment. He shifted back on his heels as he listened to her speak, finally driving his dark greenish colored eyes over to her when she spoke her name. "I'm Harrison," he returned in a calm tone, looking over to where Adam, her father, was sitting. Harry gave him a nod of respect, but quickly let his shoulders slump slightly at the accusation of possibly 'messing with her head with his city boy crap'. Did he look that much like a city boy? He never really considered himself one...

When the man was seeming to fall, Harrison jolted forward a step towards the porch he was off a bit from. But Adelaide caught the man before he could help, and he quickly backed off as she took him into the house. Sighing, Harrison walked over to his truck and hoisted himself up to sit on the hood. Wow, this was going swimmingly. Beating himself up mentally, he quickly looked up when he heard her voice again. "Ah- it's fine," he stated, but still couldn't manage to force a smile on his face, giving him that same calm, almost bored expression. "Tour," he decided, figuring he might as well get used to this large place before anything else. Harrison shifted off the hood of the truck, landing smoothly on his legs.

Vixi lifted an eyebrow.

" I do go Vixi by the way, nice to meet you Harrison." Vixi wiped her hands and stuck one hand out.She shook his hand.

"Your going to want to leave the truck here. We dont like pollution on the farm and honestly it wont be able to go most of the places horse's can."Vixi says.

" so obviously, big house is here. Kitchen, rooms, and bathrooms inside. We dont go to town very often we have everything we need here on the farm.I hope your good with staying here during the week and some weekends. You will need to be up by 4 and ready by 4:30 to feed the animals." Vixi says and walks to her horse Thair.

"So schedule is 4:30 feeding, 5 move animals and clean stalls. 6 collect eggs, then just small chores here and there till about noon then we break for lunch."She says. Vixi smiles.

"This here behind me is Thair. He is my horse. Really nice and sweet. We have Sage to my left, you will being riding him around the farm as I show you around."Vizio says."need help getting on?"Vixi asked with a slight smile." Here is a help, take your left foot put it in the stirrup.one hand on the horn one Hand on the back of the saddle jump and kick your leg over like so."She showed him and backed Thair up.

"See easy." Vixi waited on him.as she did she sighed.

"Oh right, we have one bull 40 cows, 25 goats, 15 chickens, one rooster, 7 pigs, cats galore, and a few dogs. Also about 30 horses."She says. She leaned on Thair saddle and smacked him gently, she took dusted him off.

He glanced to the old truck when he was told he'd need to leave it. He didn't mind. He liked the fresh air, having never really been and indoors person. He took in all she said, taking a mental note of everything. He gave a soft nod every now and then to prove he was paying attention, even if his eyes were glancing off every now and then. He...had a small problem with keep eye contact for too long, if the fact wasn't obvious. "Sounds good," he finally breathed out, turning back to her as she introduced the stallion who stood behind her, and then the other who he'd be riding. 'Oh. This will be interesting...' He thought, knowing he had only gone riding once that wasn't at some fair, so his riding skills had to improve a lot to do what he needed to here.

"If I fall off, please don't hesitate in laughing at me," he stated, somehow getting a glint of amusement in his eyes even if his face lacked the smile to aid it. Harrison started to walk over to the stallion named Sage as she spoke of what animals they had here. He was surprised, though didn't show it too much, that they had such a large count of animals. He had a lot to learn, so it's a good thing he's a fast learner. Harry lifted his left foot, placing it into the stirrup, one hand on the horn and one hand on the back of the saddle, and then he gave a small jump to hoist himself up, swinging his other leg over the horse's back. He actually did almost throw himself off, but managed to catch himself with a grunt, using the horn of the saddle to straighten himself up in the leather seat. "Close call," he uttered quietly, shifting awkwardly in the saddle to get used to the way the seat was before he snaked his hands around the reins. "Where to first?" He finally asked, looking up from the horse and over to Vixi, arching one brow slightly, moving the back of the cap on his head with his forehead muscles.

She smirked and shook her head."you will need to learn how to do that without falling off."She says. She bit her bottom lip and kicked Thair to walk. Were actually going to go around the edge of the property easiest way to see it all." Vixi says. She started the walk along.

"the barn where we keep our animals well most of them the pens where the horse's go out to run. Few things the Bull is not cool with guys, so if you need help. Let me know. We have a few stallions not yet trained. So be careful with them. Also pigs not as nice as they seem. Evil little demons actually."She says.

"So any questions so far." she asks as they keep riding and she points a few more things out like the fields, and gardens.

Irish Ice Queen

He gave her a nod, leaning forward to pat the stallion's neck, deep blue green eyes Shifting up to watch her kick the horses side onto a walk. Harrison mimicked what she did, gently kicking the side, and led Sage after Thair. As they went along, he couldn't help but awe at the land before him. It was much larger than he had expected, and much more beautiful than he'd thought as well.

When she began to point things out he had to make sure to follow where she was pointing to pin point every locations of all the pens for the animals, and also what instruction and pointers she was giving. It didn't seem like he'd want to Get on that bull's bad side. Harry tapped the horses side to pull Sage up by Thair, gaze looking out over to the fields she was pointing out. "How old is this ranch?" He questioned, glancing over to her before once more shifting his gaze back out to the fields. Harrison lifted a hand up to his head, pushing the ball cap off and pushing his fingers through his hair before dropping the cap back onto his head in the same manor: backwards.

"This farm has been open since 1700's. My family has always owned this farm. It has never been out of my family. "She looks over at him."we will always own it." She said. She was determined never to loose this house. She loved it to much.

Vixi kept riding and showing him around it took about an hour for her to show him everything. They finally got back to the big house.

"Okay so come on inside."She says hoping off Thair and tying him up.

" Good boy."She says to him.

"So sage wont be your normal horse he us just for today. We will see who takes a liking to you after lunch."She says leading him inside after he got off sage. She showed him the kitchen, then the bathroom, then to the bedrooms.

" my dads room is on the other side of the house. So don't worry about waking him. My room is just fown the hall with the double oak doors. This here is your room." She says and opens up a room."got it ready this morning window is open it was a bit stuffy. Oh right will need to get you cowboy boots and a different hat, but will fix all that later. So I will let you unpack and then meet me downstairs for lunch. we have fresh pulled pork."She says. She gave him a small smile and went downstairs.

Irish Ice Queen

A small whistle blew from his lips to her words, "long time." He murmured. It looked well taken care of, with that old traditional look to it, just adding to the atmosphere.

As they went along, Harrison made sure to listen carefully and to create a mental map so he knew where he'd be going and when. Sure, it'd probably take a few days, but he had most of it down. Shifting in the saddle when they got back to the house, lip pulling back slightly to himself, he tried to get comfortable on the stallions back.

He threw his leg over the saddle to follow in getting off the stallion's back, giving the muscled animal a pat to the shoulder before going to tie the reins by Thair's. "Alright," he replied to all she was telling him before following after into the house. He quickly swiped his hat from his head; his mother always said wearing a hat indoors was disrespectful, and the woman thumped the back of his head whenever he did it. Following her silently, Harry shoved one hand into his pocket-the hat in that hand-and his other hand roughed up his hair a bit to make it look better than it did with the "hat head". He let his eyes scan over the halls and walls, taking in all he could from the place he'd be spending most his nights now. He could only hope he'd be able to help this ranch, and hopefully prove himself, even if he was a "city boy" in their eyes. "Thanks," he looked into the open door of the room he was led to, which would be where he'd stay. When she commented about his hat and getting him boots, he couldn't help but glance down to the sneakers on his feet, and the hat halfway shoved into his hand. Ah well. "See you then," he tried pushing a smile onto his face, but only got a twitch of his lip upwards before it fell back down.

Harrison navigated into the room, shifting back on his heels and looking around; his eyes trailed to the open window that let in a nice breeze, then over to the bed before slowly trailing his eyes across the wooden walls and to the floor. It had a...homely feel, more homely than the apartment he lived in with his sister and mother. Letting a sigh filter from his lungs, Harry turned on his heel and headed downstairs and quietly out the front door and to his truck. The young man hopped onto the back tire where the bed of the truck was, reaching in and pulling out the duffel bag he had packed, slinging it over his shoulder. He couldn't help but glance over in the direction of the gate, where he had entered from. He hoped his mother was doing okay at her new job, too, and that Lindsey was doing okay at school. Shoulders tendsing to his straying thoughts, Harrison went to the back door of his tuck, pulling it open. Snagging his leather jacket, he stated at the guitar case that was now unhidden. He'd...leave that there for now. Shutting the door, he turned and headed back into the house to go unpack.

After sorting out his things, Harrison dropped the duffel bag onto the edge of the bed, pausing for a moment before tugging his shirt off and stuffing it into the now empty bag. Going over to the dresser, he pulled out an old white t-shirt, staring at the fabric for a second before scoffing at himself and tugging the fabric over his torso.

Harry gave one last glance around the room, tossing his hat by the bag on the bed, and then heading out of the door and down the stairs. As the smell of the home cooked meal hit his nose, he could feel his stomach growl at him. He couldn't remember the last time he had an actual home cooked meal. It'd been frozen dinners and such for a long time--which his football coach always nagged him about, but what could he do? It was all they had. Sliding his hands into his pockets again, looking at complete ease even in a new house, Harrison made his way to where he assumed the kitchen was.

Vixi sat at the table she was rolling a glass of water around while she read a book. She didn't have a phone or anything like that. She let him do his thing. After a bit she went to fix the meals and set them on the table. While he did what ever she went and helped bathe her father and feed him. Once he was resting. She kissed his cheek and sighed, vixi was worried about him.He wasn't well and what would happen if he died. With one last look at her father. Vixi went downstairs, she went and unsaddled yhe horses letting them run free in the pens. She walked back in, just as he was walking down the stairs. "Hey ready for some good old fashion grub?"She asks. She smiled and lead him to the kitchen. She uncovered the food."still warm just took it off the stove a bit ago. I hope you like it."She says and sat in her chair. She ate slowly and sighed. "So how is the city? Y'all liking it out here?"She asked him.

Irish Ice Queen

He nodded his head, "yeah." He followed after to the kitchen, to where the smell got stronger. Harrison lifted a hand to the back of his kneck and rubbed at the exposed flesh there out of habit as he momentarily followed her to peek over her shoulder to the food. "It smells great," he breathed out before taking a whiff of the aroma. Harrison went and sat in his own chair where a plate was set, eagerly--like any teenage guy--picking up the fork to take a bite of the meat. As much as he wanted to dig into the meal, he ate at a civil pace; his mother would thump the back of his head for eating like a slob, especially with a lady present. His eyes shifted up to look at her when she spoke, finishing what was in his mouth first before he spoke, "it's...alright. Bigger city than where I lived as a kid." He placed another chunk of meat into his mouth, chewing and swallowing. "This is really good," he commented, once again trying to smile, but only getting that slight twitch of the corner of his mouth before taking another bite.

A gave him a look and shook her head."Just alright? Hmmmph." She says. Vixi finished a bit after him and cleaned up."so come on time to get a bit of work done."She says. Vixi lead him outside to the barn. She went to the pen and took out the horse's. I want you to check out the horse's and see which one suits you. Also stay away from Lucifer. Diablo is our bull and SOB is our rooster. Be careful of them they are crazy and tough to deal with."Vixi says she walked thair and sage to there stalls.she brushed them out and turned to him."Dont be shy go on. They are all pretty nice and Hercules is also a good boy. He however may be to much for you to handle. That's up to you though. I hope you will be okay here with us non city folk."vixi says

Irish Ice Queen

Harrison helped clean up as much as he could, so he could learn where everything went, and then followed her out of the house and over to the barn. His eyes navigated around the barn to get a feel for it before watching as she took out the horses. He decided it'd be best for him to watch and learn for now, instead of risking doing something wrong; he had enough common sense to do that. He couldn't help but let the small breath of amusement leave his nose as she spoke of the bull and rooster. "I'll keep my. distance for now," he mused before watching as Vixi led the two stallions from earlier over to their stalls. He shifted on his heels and walked over to the pen, leaning against it and debating going into it. Harrison turned his head to look over to her as she spoke again, lifting a hand to push it through his hair again before he went to the gate and slipped through, making sure to shut it afterwards. "I never got along too well with a lot of people in the city," he admitted sheepishly before turning to go around to pet the horses within the pen with him. He calmly walked over to a mare, patting her neck gently for a few moments. His eyes widened for a moment as the mare playfully seized his shirt sleeve, tugging against it with a snort. Lifting a hand, he tried to gently tug his shirt free, only to have her tap her hooves against the ground. "I think she likes my shirt," a semi-half smile actually pulled at the corner of his mouth, a nice change from the typical blank look that he had. Harrison patted the top of her snout.

Vixi sighed "Just pet her and it is dinner time for them.Thats zoey she is an Arabian horse. Horses kinda choose who they like. Come on out and tell me what you know about farm animals and horses. Vixi says as she carries over bales of hay. As she starts to feed the horse's as she went about the barn. She set the bales of hay down with out any effort. Most girls would need help, but she didn't. Vixi sighed as she fed the animals she stopped at Diablos cage.

Vixi pet the bull and smiles. She turned to him and sighed. "Really this will be a lot of help." She says. She should probably try and be nice to the guy who was helping her and her father out. She stopped hearing a car"oh hell no. Not again today." Vixi says and walked our her boots clicked. She glared at the black car that showed up. Two men get out and walk up to her. They talk and she starts yelling at them she grabs the papers and tears them up and throws them at them."get off my property." Vixi says. She was beyond annoyed. She went to hit one of them. She felt a hand pulling her back. It was Harrison holding her back."I kill you get off my property. "She yelled at them. Trying to get to them.

He pet the mare for a moment before obeying and leaving the pen for now. He did as he was told and informed her on what he knew, which was mostly book knowledge from the library downtown that he used so he wouldn't be completely useless to the ranch. Harrison helped pick up the bales of hay--seeing as she didn't need help carrying them herself--and set them down as they were to be as he finished saying what he knew. He still had a lot to learn, considering the book knowledge wasn't exactly knowing how to do all this in person, but he was a quick learner, so he'd be able to catch on quick.

Before he could reply to her, he heard her comment about the sudden sounds of a car pulling up. Brows creasing in confusion, Harry started to walk over, but hung back a bit as they spoke, well, as Vixi yelled at them. Seeing her go to hit one of them men, he jolted forward, using a hand to pull her back by the arm that seemed to go to punch one of them. He kept a firm-but not harsh-grip on her arms to keep her back from trying to hurt the men. A slight glare formed on his face to the men. "You heard her, get off her land." He stated firmly, only relaxing his grip on her arms when he was sure she wasn't going to jump forward and knock a fist into one of these men.

Vixi finally calmed down a bit as they left and Harrison let her go. She sighed and turned to him."sorry about that damn vultures trying to get my father's farm."She says. "Thanks for the save from an assault charge."She says. She pulled her hat off and ran a hand through her hair."okay so back to the barn then you can go chill for the rest of the the day or what ever you want to do. Ride or read or what not."vixi says and goes in."I know a really cool spot to spend an afternoon like this. Also here she went to the barn closet and pulled out boots and a hat."trade in those city shoes and hat for some real ranchers clothing." Vixi says and Thair nudged her. She laughed and pet him. "Hey buddy"

Irish Ice Queen

"I'm guessing they've asked more than twice," he assumed, considering her reaction to them being here. "Any time," he stated, "people in fancy suits like that are never a good thing." he muttered. He nodded to her next words and followed back into the barn, sliding his hands into his pockets casually. Maybe he could find a quiet place to sit down and play his guitar after all the work was done... "Where would that be?" He asked curiously before watching as she opened a closet and pulled out some boots that looked his size and a hat. He took them and dropped the hat into his head, "how's it look?" He mused, and even without a smile, the look of amusement somehow gleaned in his eyes. He needed to learn to smile more. His eyes watch the stallion nudge her before glancing down to his feet where his sneakers still stayed. Crouching down, he pulled off the sneakers and pushed his feet into the boots, rather surprised to find they were a perfect fit on his feet. Harrison stood up again, holding his shoes by the laces in one hand before using his other to tilt the top of his hat down a bit more. He'd be a fool not to admit he felt more comfortable in these boots and hat; like he belonged in them in a way.

Vixi watched him and nods."they been here week after week.were not selling this farm. I don't know what to do anymore, it's why we hired you hoping to get help and maybe get our ranch up and going again. But on another note the place I want to take you I will show you." She said as she cleaned up an aisle. She smiled at him bit her bottom lip as he put the boots on. She walked over and fixed his hat and shirt."there now you look less city and more country."She said. Her eye's stopped on his and she smiles. She stepped away and bit her lip. "Okay so were almost done here I am going to teach you how to saddle, groom, bridal and get your horse out."vixi says. She leads him to the closet. So here are all our halters and bridal and saddles. They are labeled, so you know what saddle goes to what horse. Since zoey likes you. She is your horse. Make sure you take care of her. Also grooming buckets are in here. Grab her halter and bucket."vixi says. She grabbed Thair stuff and carried it over to the stall. She taught him to put the halter on and clean his horse including mane, hooves, and coat. She then taught him to saddle and bridal his horse.

Irish Ice Queen

"I hope I can help then," he murmured quietly in response. He didn't want to be a burden. As she fixed his shirt and hat, he stood still, glancing down at himself for a moment when she backed up before looking up to her, "good. I didn't want to stick out like a sore thumb."

He gave her a nod after she said she'd teach him how to saddle and such. Good. Because he only knew what the books told him. He followed over to the closet and looked over her shoulder to see all she was looking at. "Zoey," he mused the name of the mare that had bitten his shirt earlier. "Alright," he agreed when she told him to take care of her. Harrison looked down the stalls of horses before shifting to grab Zoey's halter and bucket, and then head over to where the mare was.

As Vixi began to teach him how to do the various things, Harry made sure to pay close attention. From his ability to learn fast, he picked up on it all quickly. And for a "city boy", that was probably impressive. Then again, he always liked the outdoors and animals more than the indoors and the crowded streets of the city.

Once they finished, Harrison leaned against a stall wall and looked to the horses. "This isn't bad. Though I guess the real work starts tomorrow, huh?" He questioned before brushing off a few chunks of horse hair and dirt from his torso.

Vixi laughs and shakes her head."yeah real work starts at 4 AM. Tomorrow"she says. She hoped off and grabbed a saddle bag. She pulled it on and got back on. Alright Zoey will follow Thair."vixi said and she kicked Thair to go. Vixi rode along unmarked trails she knew them like the back of her hand. She crossed a river and finally stopped a bit down from where they crossed. Vixi got off and tied Thair up."I love coming here to cool off fish and what ever else."She says. She took her boots and socks off. She pulled her feet in the cool water and rolled her pants up. She looked back at him and smiles. "So what you think?

Irish Ice Queen

Harrison made sure the saddle was on Zoey right before he hopped into it like she had showed him before, doing it more smoothly than he had the first time. Once up, he also kicked the horse's side to get her to follow after Vixi's stallion. As they rode down the silent paths, he let himself lean back to enjoy the area around, his eyes darting about to see everything before straightening out to cross the river. Harrison shifted forward to pat the mare's neck before hopping off and tying her reins up near where Thair was tied up. By the time her turned, Vixi was in the water and speaking again, Harry tilting his head slightly before walking over. A breath filtered out through his nose as he crouched by the shore to reach down and pick up a stone. "I like it," he replied in his typical monotone, as if he hardly knew any other tone to use. "Calm and quiet," he tossed the stone into the small river to watch it get whisked away from them.

Vixi nods and flips her hair. She takes her hat off and fans herself with it. She squats down and washed her face in the cool water. She turned when she saw a fawn in the grass."hey little guy."She says and held out her hand to the animal. She knew it was scared. Couldn't figure out why the mother had abandoned it. She looked around. There was a forest on there property. She sighed and looked down again. She got closer slowly and pet the fawn gently. She smiled and looked at Harrison. "Come here but slowly. Here are things you can't see in the city."She says"we have simpler lives."She says
