Anime & Manga Subbed or dubbed

which do you prefer a Subbed anime or dubbed anime?? im really interested what people say

I'm going to have to say i prefer most dubs but most people probably prefer subs. That's just my opinion though, like I don't really criticize dubs and say they're really bad and all that jazz, I like eng dubs. Funimation does a good job  B|

The only worth dubbed anime for me were Fate/Zero, and Fullmetal Alchemist. Otherwise, i'm more into Subbed one because i find out japanese more attractive then english dubbed in the anime world.

...Is what I would say if I was an annoying anime elitist   Honestly, if I can find an English dub of the anime, I'll 9 times out of 10 watch the dub. I prefer to actually watch my shows rather than be constantly dividing my attention between the action and the words on the screen. I still watch subbed anime, and I don't have anything against it, I just like dubs more.


(I apologize to anyone I may have offended. I will stop complaining about you when you stop screaming to the world that English dubs are bad because dubs.)

for me if its an action anime i would use dubs cus i want to watch the action. everything else is a sub

Generally subbed, but a few anime, assassination classroom and hetalia, I prefer dubbed. For the most part though, subbed, most dubs sound really creepy but I guess it's because I'm used to subs!

I like to watch whichever one bests suits the setting.  If an anime is set in, say, Prohibition America or Victorian England, it makes more sense for the characters to be speaking English.  If it's set in feudal or modern Japan, I prefer to watch with subs.  If it's not obvious what the character would be speaking, I generally default to whichever one sounds better to me.

I prefer subbed anime. I don't mind quickly diverting my eyes between text and animation if it means (in my opinion) well-done voices. I have tried dubbed but the dullness in the voices for the English speakers don't seem to fit well to the animation as I see it. I know that perhaps I'm being a little harsh on the voice actors but I mean c'mon...there's some Youtubers who've done even better abridges with English voices for animation. 


I don't know...for me I feel the show is not at its best when the voices don't seem to match the tone. 


But as stated before, this is purely all my opinion.

Typically it's almost always a sub for me. I can't imagine watching JoJo without all the goofy Engrish for example. It just adds so much charm. That said, there are a few examples of dubs being fantastic. Anyone watching Cowboy Bebop with subs is objectively wrong.


Honestly it's a case by case basis, but I feel with every change you kind of run the risk of straying from the original vision of the series.

I prefer the Japanese voice for almost all the anime that I watch. But I watch the Dub always because I have problems paying attention to both the dialogue and what is happening on screen if I have to keep looking up then down and up then down. I can't focus on more than one thing at a time so I'm stuck with Dub. I really don't mind, though. I got used to the dubbed voices pretty quick.

^^^^ What she said. I can't help but feel that dubbed can sometimes sound rather weird or out of place at times with few exceptions - the only exception where I thought dubbed was alright was probably Dragonball. Goku sounded hilarious in Japanese.

Dubs.  The subtitles are almost always terribly done, with really awkward syntax and word choice.  In fact, most subtitles seem like the script was just run through google translate.  And English dub actors actually seem to make an effort to match their speech with the mouth flaps.  


But this could just be the anime I've seen.  


 Also--and this is a personal thing--a lot of the Japanese voice actresses seem to think characters should speak in a breathy screech, like, all the time, hitting a pitch that's just really hard on the ears.  Of course, plenty of English dub actresses do the same, but I can at least understand them.

i prefer subs to be honest, but if there is a dubbed version, i like hearing how the characters sound - so i kinda just watch dubbed for entertainment purposes really.

I don't watch Anime but HELL SUB IS AWESOME. Dub is like nooooo, THAT'S NOT HIS VOICE. NO OH DEAR GOD YOU'RE MAKING HIM SOUND STUPID. NOOOO!!! MY PRECIOUS BABY WITH THE HUSKY VOICE. NO YOU ARE MAKING HER SOUND LIKE AN ANT.


Just no...  Especially those dubs in other languages... DONT GET ME STARTED ON THEIR NAMES AND VOICES. 


ik this bc of kdramas that keeps getting dubbed in my language which is so annoying and ugly. Prefer to watch the originals with subs.

Fan subs are the ones with this issue usually because the grammar checkers were bad.  Dub [loses] a lot in meaning and translation because they HAVE to match the mouth movements.  If you've ever watched an anime both subbed and dubbed it can become very noticeable.  And it also depends on the anime you watch with the screechy voice... like Usagi's japanese voice made my ears bleed.  But Nana's voice from Nana or Priss' voice from Bubblegum Crisis 2040 weren't screechy, it's part of the character.

It honestly depends for me. Sometimes the dubbed has horrible voice acting, or the actors just have annoying voices. It also depends on which one I watched the anime in first.

Subs, all the way. Almost always, the original dubbing is much better than the recasting. That goes for anything, really. A game that I've played in English and then afterwards in German will sound better in English. Seen it happen millions of times.

Dubs get a bad rap for being horrible but most of them are good like Code Geass, Baccano!, Kuroshitsuji, Hetalia, Hellsing Ultimate and more. Though Bible Black, Noragami and  Danganronpa: The Animation aren't very good. I can watch subbed anime if a need to.

Definitely subs. I like listening and learning other languages (even though I probably will never be fluent in any of them), and I am really bad at making out what people are saying in conversations if it's dubbed, even if it's in my first language ;-;
