Calamity.
The silence was pleasant, albeit awkward. He still didn't know whether he should try to make conversation or not, or whether it was best to just leave things as they were. He didn't particularly want to talk, but he wasn't fond of silence, either. It was too reminiscent of the apocalypse, of days and months and years spent listening to his own voice, speaking aloud in a feeble attempt to comfort himself.
...Thinking about it, why was it so silent? This was a jungle, wasn't it? Shouldn't it be teeming with life? Something wasn't right about this place. He didn't like it. Something was off.
"What's with the flowers?" He paused in his tracks, squinting his eyes in confusion. He hadn't seen flowers like that before. Sure, there had been the odd patch of flora amongst the bushes, but not anything like this. It was a large patch, raising at odd angles, intertwined and wrapping around something that was partially concealed by the jungles shadows. Holding an arm out to keep Alec from advancing any further, he slipped into a defensive stance, limbs stiffening with caution. Shit, why didn't he have any weapons on him? He'd feel so much safer with a knife, or a gun...
"The fuck?" It looked like a person. At first, he'd believed himself to be staring at a corpse, one that was seemingly overgrown with flowers and vines. But the shape beneath the tangled stems was rising and falling steadily. They were breathing. They weren't dead. He hesitantly moved forward, prodding the plant-coated body with his foot, expression bewildered. "Who sleeps in the middle of a fucking jungle?" And what was with the plants growing over this person? He was pretty sure nature didn't work like that. "Hey, sleeping beauty. Wake up." Lowering his arm as a signal for Alec to join him, he continued to prod at the sleeping person, glancing back at the other to check his expression. He couldn't be the only one put off by this, right?

Well, the lizard guy hadn't followed her. That was fine, he seemed to be pretty keen on staying in the water anyways, and there didn't seem to be any water around in this stupid jungle, so honestly she didn't blame him for sticking to the beach. If it wasn't for the kid, she probably would have done the same. She didn't want to be amongst a filthy fucking forest full of bugs and weirdos. Folding her arms across her chest, she shot Hisoka a heated glare, mouth pressed into an irritable frown. "I didn't wanna leave the kid alone with the likes of you." She glanced briefly at Kai, checking him over with her eyes before returning her attention to Hisoka, hesitantly approaching as he beckoned. "Ain't you ever seen a horror movie? The kid that goes off with the clown always ends up dyin'." Fortunately, Kai seemed fine.
"Clowns are bad news. Never liked 'em, never will." She kept her posture closed off, eyes narrowed and distrusting, lips tugged down at the edges. The sun was still killing her, but she could ignore it, for now at least. She'd probably melt eventually though. "And besides, the beach was too hot. I needed some shade." She huffed, pulling her gaze away from Hisoka and staring at their surroundings instead. So many plants. And trees. And fuckin' gross was that a beetle? She smacked it off it's perch with her gun, driving the heel of her boot into it's body as it dropped to the floor for good measure. Goddamn she hated bugs. "Nah. The other guy ain't comin'. He wanted to stay in the water." Her lip curled in disgust as she glanced back at the beetle carcass, opting to stare at her companions instead.
...At least Kai looked cute. She couldn't say the same for Hisoka though.
"Anyway. You two look like you need some protection, so I'm here. You're welcome in advance."
