Darkraven Darkraven Have you had an essay handed back cause it was too long? I always did from one professor, too lazy to read I guess! :D

No, not at all.

That is a large part of it. I say as someone who used to grade hundreds of papers. ;)

That said, there is arguably something to be said for being able to say what you need to say in a certain length. Particularly in the business world, no one has patience for 10 page papers...

I guess it's that. I always try to cut back on length, something which I still have trouble with, but you're right.

I used to teach too. Yuck. The papers were the best of it, the teaching itself was way worse!

I'm an educator now - yes, teaching is far worse, depending. At least with the papers, you get to take your time with Zen-like concentration. Teaching is can be a futile exercise in patience at worse and rewarding pain at best. I still like it though, because my students get a glimpse of enlightenment and I get to make a living doing the most humane thing in the world.

I usually write a lot too, but in this RP, I try to do what seems realistic. And, at the moment, that is not much! But my day will come.

It's still relatively early, so there's not much yet. But the army management system is going to kick in soon, so there might be something. Otherwise, there's probably going to be a lot of action once we hit the badlands.

I gotta ask you guys though - do you guys like going through with the interactions? Because Star Trek is pretty much 50% that. There's still the doctor in sick bay, several other senior officers, not to mention the usual social interactions. I'm just gonna keep them spread evenly so there wouldn't be months without action, but let me know.

Personally, I like social interactions more than battle descriptions, usually. Interactions develop characters.
Of course, not all the time... it would be tedious to play out two briefings every day. But I think you know well when to move on, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Oh, I'm just getting some input so I'd know when to do a timeskip :)

That’s what so good about Star Trek especially Voyager is that 80% of the episode is usually just interactions with each other and then 20% action. Sometimes it can be more and sometimes less at least with filler episodes but still I feel that’s what the percentages are usually like.

Also quick questions;
- What is everyone’s favourite Star Trek series?
- What is everyone’s favourite Star Trek Episode? (multi part episodes count as one)

Mine personally are Star Trek Voyager and Year of Hell (from voyager and it’s a two parter)

Because it's the questions Star Trek raised that's so interesting. The characters are awesome too, even the ones people claim are the worse. The plot can also be mind-bending. It's the middle ground between hard and soft sci-fi that managed to take the best of both worlds and make it great.

Man, this is a tough one. The Next Generation, maybe. 'Parallel' from ST:TNG is probably one of my favourites. That said, you can expect something like that to happen someday in the future of this RP, if it can last that long ;) (and here, I hope you guys will forget I said this so it'd be a genuine surprise)

I'm a die-hard Deep Space Nine fan. It's simply some of the finest television ever made.

For Next Generation: A tie between Darmok and Inner Light. Exploration of culture is a long love of mine, mixed with some real character development.
For Voyager: Scorpion. My least favorite series I'm afraid but the sheer boldness of trying an alliance with the Borg, and how it legitimately wedged the command staff apart, was fascinating.
For Deep Space Nine: Too many. I'm not sure I'd want to play through something like it but "In the Pale Moonlight" is the single episode that jumps out at me when asked the question.
For Enterprise: The later part of the Xindi arc, where the vengence driven Archer finally meets some Xindi...and doesn't flip out but instead does what Starfleet does best; search for understanding and common ground.

Yeah it really does vary though the mirror version. While sometimes vastly different usually they share some small similarities with their none mirror counterparts. For example both Kira’s from deep space nine could be ruthless in getting what they wanted it was just the intendant wanted more power while regular Kira wanted a free Bajor. Archer was obsessed with legacy in regular it was his farther’s legacy while in mirror it was his own legacy he worried about.

I have to say, seeing Deep Space Nine cast is awesome (my favorite series) and I especially love their reaction.

Nice to be reminded this isn't an exclusively off-the-rails game.

I don't have favorite episodes, it would be too many, as I saw everything from TOS to Discovery, with all the movies ever made on top.
With the exception of the movie Generations, which I consider an awful abomination, there was not much I disliked.
I do, however, have favorite characters. I really, really love characters that are somehow odd/from a different culture/artificial intelligence trying to fit in. So my favorites are Spock, Data, 7 of 9, Holodoctor, T'Pol and suchlike, heck even Ash/Voq in Discovery. And naturally, plotlines involving them are of interest to me. That is why I am also excited we have such complex characters in this RP, players as well as the main crew!
That said, I have to admit when I started watching DS9, I completely hated it, but my friends were telling me if I can just get through the first two seasons, it will be epic. And they were right, because I did enjoy it greatly once it kicked off, and the characters showed some developement. The rest of it I finished in like two weeks cause I couldn't stop.

Aw man, I remember slogging through season 1 of Deep Space Nine and thinking "Major Kira is such a generic cut out of an antagonistic stubborn ex-freedom fighter, am I really going to put up with it for seven seasons?" And then in season 1, there was Duet and scenes like this and I thought "Holy crap, actual character development!"

Man, in some ways Kira was better at dealing with Cardassians than O'Brien. How often does that ever happen?

What does 'off-the-rails' mean?

I'm working towards being a teacher myself, except there's much less grading essays in high school music classes.

Awesome... And I'm guessing music is your passion? My biggest dream is to teach creative writing to adults - but for that, I'd need to be successful enough in my own writing - say win awards or earn enough from it.

I hated Deep Space 9, personally. I thought it was boring.

To be fair, ST:DS9 is slower than the other Star Trek series, and Star Trek series are already slow enough, though without detriment to what they are doing, so I get what you're going for. But I don't hate it. It takes a lot to make me hate something.
