I apologize greatly, this is my first Rp and I wasn't sure where to start. Are you telling me to delete the character sign up post or the post I made about Frey?Genon said:@kitshi
Alright, while I appreciate that you made a character sheet, you can't post in the IC tab until the GM, @SilverSolis, approves it. I recommend you save your IC post in a Word document or a Google Doc and delete the actual post from the IC thread. Then, wait until @SilverSolis gives you the go-ahead to post in the IC tab.
Delete the in-character (IC) post, but SAVE IT FIRST. You can easily press edit and copy the code into an offline document before deleting it.kitshi said:I apologize greatly, this is my first Rp and I wasn't sure where to start. The post made about Frey in the tab labeled "in-character" to be specific.kitshi said:I apologize greatly, this is my first Rp and I wasn't sure where to start. Are you telling me to delete the character sign up post or the post I made about Frey?
Why thank you, I deleted it now, so once I get the O K I'll repost.Pinkalyn said:The post made about Frey in the tab labeled "in-character" to be specific.
Though, I will say you write very well and I look forward to seeing you RP in this thread.
Okay. can I still put my character introduction in with it though?SilverSolis said:Hm, You can already be In the classroom if you choose to and say your character was there the entire time
I say go for it. As long as you're not messing with anyone else in it, you should be fine to retro-actively introduce yourself up to the point of being in the classroom.kitshi said:Okay. can I still put my character introduction in with it though?
Yeah, Agree with thatPinkalyn said:I say go for it. As long as you're not messing with anyone else in it, you should be fine to retro-actively introduce yourself up to the point of being in the classroom.

He's a pretty unique character. So he's a weapon but he can't transform into it? I'd like to know a little more information before I accept him, since he's a new concept.Pinkalyn said:Name: Caldwin "Crossbar" Callahan
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Weapon(?)
History:
Those descended from the family that Cross comes from are known for something special. Something that was, once, the height of entertainment throughout the land. The Callahan's legendary ability to put on life-size puppet shows. with remarkable attention to detail. Lifelike marionettes dancing on invisible strings to the tunes of a fairy tale setting.
However, few truly understood the dedication that went into the Callahan art. A family divided into three sects, the Callahan family members grew up most often to fall into one of three art forms, based on their family's branch. The Craftsman, whose unparalleled attention to detail and fine art created the most beautiful of dolls. The Conductors, who could manipulate the strings of their art with unearthly precision and grace. And, the least known branch, the Control Bars, a branch of weapons whose form almost always mirrored that of the most intricate and complex bars for which the conductors could resonate with.
Thus, it is true that when one thought of the Callahan family, they did not often picture fierce fighters or political figures. Only a form of entertainment that was rapidly becoming outdated by more modern interests.
Now we come to Caldwin, a young man watching his family struggle. A boy who, through a twist of fate, was born to the weapon branch but unable to transform. A mere child with the knowledge that out there, somewhere in the world, a different destiny awaited him. One that did not follow the traditional path of puppetry.
At a young age he was able to do something unheard of among his family members and peers, despite his inability to become the embodiment of a control bar. On contact with an object, he seemed to weave the very essence of his soul into it, manipulating it with his will. This mutation, as his family deemed it, seemed to fuse the two most distinctive features of his family, the Conductor and Control Bar made one. They saw him as both something to be feared, and something to be revered. A savior of the Callahan family name, but one that would put two of the branches out of business. Many of his family members shunned him. A handful doted over him. Fewer still sought to study and understand his skill.
However, as was said before, Caldwin had no interest in all of this. His goals, and his path, brought him to the steps of the DWMA. Armed only with his unique skill and a desire to understand himself, he entered enrolled as a Meister.
Virtues:
Cunning. Cross is a skilled planner, and will often be thinking a few steps ahead of whatever he is currently doing.
Manipulative. Everything a person does, or doesn't do, is an indication of who they are, what they're thinking, and what they're going to do next. Using this information against someone is one of Cross' greatest assets.
Flaws:
Abrasive. Just because he's using you, doesn't mean he's being nice about it. Cross is harsh, and most people will avoid him in their daily routines.
Irritable. Quick to anger, slow to forgive. Insulting Cross often leads to situations in which he is planning your demise, and the face he makes when he's glowering isn't much different from the face he usually wears, so it's difficult to tell when you've ticked him off.
It's not punny. Cross (for unknown reasons) takes direct personal insult to the use of puns. If they're said in his general vicinity they cause him to twitch, if said in conversation with him he'll become angered, and if made directly about him, he may come out swinging. Metaphorically, of course, since he's more apt to seal one's lips with his puppet strings ability than to throw a literal punch.
Special talents:
Puppet Strings- A variation on the Soul Thread Suture technique, Caldwin can connect strands of soul energy from his fingertips to a touched target, which then remain attached at both ends so that he can manipulate a specific part of the target. Each finger correlates to one joint or other fixed location, and the control is not perfect.
On inanimate objects the control is strong enough for lifting, swinging, and blocking as if he were physically holding the object, and requires between two (lifting) and five (swinging and blocking) sutures to maintain.
On living targets of small size, such as a bird or a squirrel, five strings are required minimum but the target's resistance causes difficulty in fine motor control. A bird might fall from the sky as it refuses to flap its wings, or a squirrel's grip on tree bark might be clumsy and cause it to slip downwards. Ten strings allows for more overall control, but the creature might still audibly protest to such a blatant disregard of its will.
On living targets of human size, such as a human, the sutures are not usually strong enough to enable direct control. Instead, at best, the opposing force of the will being projected through the strings, and the will of the person on the other end of them, are enough to cancel each other out and cause momentary paralysis in a captured target. This technique requires all ten sutures and most of Cross' attention to maintain. It doesn't last very long, though duration should be dramatically fitting for the scene.
On larger targets, or targets of exceptional strength, the sutures have little to no effect. In addition, though they aren't physical, the strings are visible, leading directly to Cross, and are able to be cut with attacks that affect the soul.
Unusual Soul-
Normal weapons aren't able to wield other weapons, much less resonate with them. Cross isn't quite a normal weapon. He's never been able to transform into his weapon state, and thus believes himself not to be one, but he has been able to train with weapons. Every weapon he's ever trained with, however, has reported nausea, discomfort, and varying levels of dysphoria after having been held by him. This has left him without a partner, despite his considerable skill as both a weapon meister and a battlefield tactician.
Black Waltz Wavelength-
The Puppet String skill possessed by Cross has its uses, but at the same time it is limited and often no better than simply being skilled in hand to hand or melee combat. Until this wavelength is activated. The Black Waltz, as Cross has coined it, is a wavelength that is released through the Puppet Strings, turning them from the silvery-blue hue that they are normally to pitch black, light absorbing strings that vibrate with great intensity.
On Cross' end, they grant him increased speed of movement, focus, and manual dexterity. His finger movements become unparalleled and he becomes more able to dodge incoming attacks directed at himself while compensating the position of the threads so that he doesn't compromise control.
On the other end, the business end of the Black Waltz, the effects vary. Weapons are able to resonate with him through the strings, enabling them to bring out their strongest abilities while his control over their movements are sharper and faster. His ability to manipulate enemies becomes vastly stronger, to the point that failing to resist this ability might leave him in complete control for a short time (again, whatever is most dramatically fitting. Feel free to discuss with me in PMs). Even a mundane object like a branch becomes a potentially deadly weapon as speed and force are multiplied.
But perhaps the most devastating part of the Black Waltz is that it creates such a back and forth transfer over the Puppet Strings, that they become physically tangible, and very deadly to touch. The force of exposed soul resonance, vibrating at high frequency and given tangibility means that anything caught up in the strings runs the risk of being torn to shreds.
The most immediate drawbacks are a shorter duration in soul resonance before fatigue sets in, or a weaker resonance for the same duration. Resonating over a distance, even through a medium such as Puppet Strings, is more draining. Additionally, the discomfort that most weapons feel is greatly amplified by this technique. The general feeling is one of loss of self and loss of control. As if one's actions are no longer dictated by their choices, and they are merely a puppet on a string. This is not the case, as effort is required from both sides for the Black Waltz to succeed, and a partner must be able to overcome this sensation to make use of the Black Waltz. Similarly, an enemy affected by the Black Waltz will feel something similar to the above but must /give in/ to those feelings for the Black Waltz to be effective. This is usually attained at the point where an opponent finds themselves unable to move (caused by the base abilities of Puppet Strings), while impending dread sets in. Enemies who feel no such feelings are free to break out of the Black Waltz as easily as if it were the normal Puppet Strings ability.
That's amazing. He's definitely acceptedPinkalyn said:That's exactly what he is, a weapon without a weapon form. Of course this would mean limiting him to almost inability to progress in the DWMA, not to mention limiting his interaction with other students. So rather than have him severely handicapped by that, I gave him the ability to wield weapons at a detriment to them, meaning that most weapons wouldn't partner with him anyways. I thought it would be a unique concept, as you called it, to turn what is normally viewed as a mutually beneficial and generally 'good feeling' ability as soul resonance into something that is essentially torture for both of them. I'll put these details under the soul section of his abilities so that the drawbacks are more apparent to everyone, but rest assured my main goal for Cross is interesting and dramatic roleplay, not 'power play'. :3
