Fantasy Son's and Daughters of Olympus

Eva heard her name and jumped, immediately going quiet. She looked over at Jethro and smiled a bit. "Oh...um...h-hi," she stuttered before mentally kicking herself for it.

Eva felt herself blush a shade of dark red and looked down. "Umm thanks," she said softly, unsure of why she was having a hard time talking to him. "Though I don't sing in front of people," she added, trying to calm her racing heart.

Freya got up quietly and crept out of her room, her overly large t-shirt hugging her thighs as she walked to the meeting point. She wasn't going with them, in fact she wasn't even sure how to look at Hunter, but she did want to see them off. So at least until he arrived, she would stay and make her apologies. Stopping by the armory on her way, she grabbed the familiar golden wrist bands that she made everyone wear during combat training and hugged them to her chest. She spotted Idris and images flashed across her mind. "Idris," she said with a choked voice as tears flooded her eyes.

Idris looked down at Freya slowly, calmly. For some reason, she trusted Freya now. There was something different about the girl's air that convinced her she was in control of herself. "Come here, sit next to me." She said, softly. "I want to talk to you."

"I don't see why you don't. You have a real talent for it. Talent like that should not be hidden away. If it is then how will it ever grow. Use your gift Eva. I wish that I had a talent like that. Instead, I am just a brute who knows how to swing a piece of metal."

Freya nodded and moved over to her, sitting down slowly and looked up at the starlit sky. "I'm so sorry," she blurted out, glancing at Idris before looking down ashamed. "I should have fought better for control," she whispered before continuing to ramble. "I mean, controlling it's not an exact science but I thought I'd gotten it down until my mother asked me to go in that god forsaken fountain and then when the Naiad bit me I brushed against the source and I know it's not an excuse but still I know I'm better than that! I mean I wear like 5 items of gold to stop myself from losing control. But then again it doesn't really stop my powers, it just kind of weakens them a little. Oh by the way, I wanted to give you one of these," she said trailing off and holding out one of the golden bracelets. "It should make my powers weaker if you wear it," she explained, looking down at the rest in her hands.

"Not to me," she mumbled, but it was louder than she had intended it to be. She mentally died and glanced down at the ground. "Umm....I...uh...I mean...umm you're not less to me...damn...I mean you're more than that to me...umm... I mean...I'll just shut up now," she stuttered and kept her eyes down.

Jethro laughed a bit, the first real laugh he had in a while. He looked at her and shook his head slightly.

"You're cute when you get flustered. Anyways, there is more beauty to be had from a talent like yours then there is with a talent like mine. Yours spreads beauty and joy, mine can only ever be used for violence."

Eva blushed bright pink and finally looked up at him, noticing the height difference. "But yours can be used to save people's lives," she said softly. She decided to bring up an old subject and asked, "What did you mean when you said you'd die before you let me die?"

"I can saving lives but only by taking them. I meant that of everyone here, you have been the nicest to me lately. You have made me feel like I can actually be here. I just can't let anything happen to you Eva, I won't let anyone die. Not again, not after all the suffering that has been going on around here. There has to be a happy ending somewhere in all of this and I am going to find it for you. Even if it costs me my own life."

Idris shook her head. "I wanted to apologize for the same thing. I also lost control. I hurt you and Hunter more strongly than you hurt any of us, but I didn't ask you to come over here to play the blame game. I don't know you very well, but I believed you were an honorable person. You showed me that before, and since it's clear to me now that you lost control because of your mother's power, I still believe it. I forgive you for losing control. I hope you do the same for me."

She looked down at the bracelet, but didn't move her hands. "I won't take it. I don't want it. First of all, I believe in you to have control. Secondly, I have every intention of learning to control my emotions myself. I can do it. My mother proved it to me. I know very little about your magic, but here's a tip that... helps me stay in control. It won't work if you touch a source again, I think, but if you need some help fine-tuning, close your eyes and concentrate not on your power, but on all of your other senses. Concentrate on everything that's cold and pretend it's flowing through you. As if you are the embodiment of calm itself." Idris smiled and shook her head. "It might not work for you, but it's worth a shot." Lifting her hands from her lap, she took one of Freya's in her own. "And don't be scared. You can dislike it sometimes, but don't be afraid of it. That makes it easier." Maybe she wasn't qualified to offer advice, but she wanted to do something for the daughter of Aphrodite, who looked truly woebegone and a little shaken. @Vaila

"But how can I have a happy ending if just about the only thing that actually makes me happy is dead?" she asked quietly as she looked at him.. She wasn't truly sure if it was rhetorical or not, but she honestly wouldn't have minded an answer.

"Your brother may be dead Eva but he would want you to go on. To live your life in happiness and to find something that makes it truly worth living."

"I wasn't referring to Alec. I..." she paused, hesitating for a few moments before letting out a soft sigh. "I can't see myself with a happy ending if you're dead," she said truthfully. She looked down, unable to make eye contact at the moment.

Jethro's eyebrow raised, as he looked at her.

"I don't get what......you mean...."

Jethro said, he had never had a girl say anything like that before. He was confused, what did she mean by what she said?

Freya squeezed her hands and smiled sadly. "Thank you," she whispered closing her eyes and taking a deep breath as she tried Idris' suggestion. Thinking of cold running through her body she shivered and opened her eyes feeling calmer. She nodded and swallowed, setting the golden bracelets on her lap and rubbing the back of her neck. "You take care on this quest of yours," she said firmly, some of the life returning to her body. "You're a good person and we could use more like you around the Demigod world." She turned to Idris and smiled. "Oh and what I said about you being hot.... well you are but you'd not my type. I'm into men.... sorry," she said awkwardly as her lip twitched and she tried to hold in her nervous giggles.

Eva sighed internally trying to decide how to explain it. She decided to just go for it and looked up at him, making eye contact and said, "You are my happy ending."

"But I......."

Jethro looked into her eyes, his heart was beaten rapidly, the pounding so loud in his ears that he was surprised that she couldn't hear it from where she was standing. Realizing he was holding his breath he slowly let it out and said,

"I...don't know what I am supposed to do. You're the first girl that....I...uh.."

The last comment made Idris's eyes brighten. "I'm certainly no man, and glad for it. They're too impulsive, and I'm not interested in romance. I'll be careful, and try to take care of the others as well." Taking her rifle down, she unhooked her mag and took a single, red bullet out of it, plopping it into Freya's hand. "Something to remember us by." She didn't say the silent 'if we don't make it.'

In her sudden and brief boost of confidence, Eva let out a silent breath. She debated whether or not to continue, the argument not lasting long. She leaned up and kissed his lips gently.

(Ugh gotta go! Be back later)

"I think the bullet wound does that," she said lightly, rolling the red bullet in her hands. "You'd better come back though, or else I'll come down to the Underworld and drag you out. I've vowed that there will be no more death under my watch and I intend keep it," she continued quietly. "What time are ya'll leaving anyway?"

"You and the Captain both, but death comes whether or not people want it to happen. Usually because they don't. We meet at five." She smiled. "I got up early. Why are you up so early?"
