Shioreta Koino
Shioreta had to admit she was quite surprised despite the higher elevation she was oddly able to breath easier. She still had to catch her breath a little from the travel but it was just a small bit of effort. She watched as Miho's clone worked to pull up Sachiko the girl seeming to escape without much hassle from the entangled mess she was caught in. It caused Shioreta to look at her seemingly a little bit more sternly though it wasn't a look that lasted long as she put on a smile on her face attempting to keep the upbeat expression up. She was a bit upset at Sachiko right now though it wasn't something she thought to raise her voice about. It was just 'that' part of her in her own mind that was always nagging her that she attempted to ignore. It was better she didn't start having 'those' thoughts they only caused her distress if she let it get to her.

The sound of the bolt flying in the air had been caught by Shioreta causing her to turn her head ready to evade should it be close to her. Miho's clone not only stopped it but caught it between her fingers. The girl looked on in admiration at the feat at just how she could manage such a precise catch like that. She noticed Sachiko start to act before seemingly hesitating again. She shook her head starting to run forward not really the fastest to be giving chase but working towards catching up with the man as she spoke in response to Sachiko.

"They didn't seem to use... tools to climb up here... these guys might be... more dangerous then they appear." She spoke fragmenting her words a bit as to keep her breath as she began to walk not wanting to exhaust herself long before she got to the target. It wasn't like she could be completely certain if those scuff marks from before were from them but it seemed to be the most likely case given the limited lack of knowledge they had. Her puppet still rested on her back not really very useful while giving chase. Using it right now would just end up slowing her down and make it harder for her to catch up and her puppet lacked long range attacks. She hoped Waka would hopefully better suited at catching up and stopping him.

Shibata Yamamoto
Looking at his ruined mirror Shibata scowled, he'd thought his crystals were stronger than that and wanted to make a clone using that mirror. At the very least he could see his teammates were too busy with their own problems to observe the shoddy quality of his technique.

He was considering whether his aim was good enough cut Ryuuka down without hitting her when Hayate called for his assistance instead. Lining up his shot Shibata launched the shuriken and embedded it partway through the spider's leg, as the creature struggled the shuriken caught the light occasionally flashing like a beacon just asking for a follow-up.

Spotting the still bound rat lying forgotten on the floor he snatched it up by the attached string and jumped to ceiling to hastily tie it around a stalactite leaving the unfortunate rodent dangling like a fishing lure, whistling loudly he gave the string a jerk making the bait bob and swing then leapt away.

Two Rats in a Wasteland
-Background Event-

As the squads dispersed, hidden inside a bubble two hooded figures stayed behind. The woman checked over the crystal in her hands, it was growing from a bright blue, a virgin crystal, to a darker shade as they stood inside the village. The man was wiping away (fake) tears as he watched the genin leave, mouthing the words “Beautiful”.

She nodded approvingly, before looking at her… weird companion, and grabbing him by the collar, mouthing ‘get over it’ and pulling him along out of the graduation area.

The pair had made it only a block before a dark arm of what looked like boiling chakra shot towards them. “For a brief moment,” a low voice spoke behind them, “I had wondered if three of my missing shinobi had come home… But you have so many crystals.”

A bubble popped, with the man walking forward. “I got them at a discount sto-”

Before the male shinobi could finish his partner front kicked him straight into the chest, straight into an 2nd bubble. In a pop he was gone.

“If there was ever a time for you NOT to talk, Inaba, that was it. Aagh... Lady Tsumikage I presume?”

The cloaked woman gave a curtsy.

“You would be correct. I am the Fourth Tsumikage, Ema Shimizu.” Ema’s eyes narrowed at her, “and just who are you?” A thick cloak of simmering chakra covered her body. There was a heavy miasma seeping from it. Strong enough to overwhelm the crystals and sicken and burn whoever it came in contact with.

A sigh came from the woman. “Try it out, he says, try walking into the Village he says… Right into the deadliest kage. Maybe not the strongest, but certainly the deadliest…”

She then addressed the Tsumikage with a headnod, her curtsy falling, and her cloak shuffling slightly.

“I don’t think you particularly care who I am. I’m just a grunt of Bishamonten.
...Right, I’d rather not fight you. I’m not a combat expert, and I’d say my chances of winning are only about 27% within our simulations, and your death serves no purpose. We’d rather remain… mostly friendly for now.”

“You did a poor job of that, stealing the crystals and waltzing into our village. Speaking of,”
Ema’s chakra cloak writhed, “you’ll be returning those now.” Two chakra arms rocketed towards the woman, one headed for her chest, the other rapidly snaked towards where most of the stolen crystals were being kept. A wave of miasma followed after.

The cloaked woman’s cloak burst open, two large bubbles following out. As each arm would strike a bubble, they suddenly exitted out the other, headed straight back at Ema. Behind the bubbles, the cloaked figure leapt over the miasma, diving at the Tsumikage from above with a single kunai in hand.

She blinked, watching her own attack be turned against her. “Well, isn’t that a neat trick.” The arms splashed into the shell of chakra around her, sending ripples and waves through it as it was reabsorbed. Ema looked up at the diving kunoichi before crossing her arms. Swiftly uncrossing them, a shockwave of chakra erupted from the cloak, carrying enough force to shatter nearby windows.

In the burst, the woman dissolved into hundreds of small bubbles, dispersing in a wide net as they dove at the Tsumikage from above.

The two bubbles that redirected her attack from earlier popped, revealing dozens and dozens more behind them, with a retreating cloaked running through various bubbles and reappearing in random ones as she retreated.

A chakra arm tentatively shot through the incoming wave, splitting and dividing as it came in contact. Ema’s eyes narrowed. Several more arms erupted from the cloak, diving into the attack, splitting and attempting to coil around the mass of bubbles and crush them.

A glare of killing intent was leveled at the fleeing attacker. For a brief moment, black and white chakra flickered in her palm before dissipating. ”Leveling everything is rather petty, Kiyohime.” She said, seemingly to no one. The cobblestone cracked slightly as she lunged after the fleeing figure.

The figure stopped as the killing intent was released, stopping her dead in her tracks, before the Tsumikage lunged after her.

“Very persistent.” The cloaked woman moaned.

The voice echoed from various points around Ema as the hooded figure ran between various bubbles. A hissing sound could be heard as the figure’s skin burned. The cloaked figure flinched, but then held up a single handsign.

Dozens and dozens of the bubbles began to fly in at high speeds at the Tsumikage from every direction once more, though this time the bubbles were much larger as the cloaked figure made a series more of handsigns.

Arms of chakra snaked through the bubbles once more. There were fewer this time, Ema carefully watching which arm emerged where, looking for one that led clear of the swarm. Finding one, she’d dive into the bubble, emerging from the one it was connected to.

Emerging through the side of it, Ema would find herself completely safe, ending up through the outside of another. It seemed more of an impromptu attack than a calculated move. The cloaked figure had not lied when she’d said she was more of a supportive role. In the distance, the cloaked figure ran once more. The air shimmered slightly, before ending in place.

“Disappearing again?” Ema sprang forward once again the moment she landed. Though when she reached where the air had shimmered, she found herself further back on the street, where the first shower of bubbles had happened.

“Well isn’t this an annoying little trick?” The chakra around her started to darken and harden, “Perhaps this is a good time for you to vent your frustrations, Kiyohime. Let’s see if we can’t breakthrough.”

She was trapped inside the largest bubble yet, cast as a barrier over the place, escaping it would take time, time the cloaked figure much appreciated.

----------------------

Landing outside the village, the cloaked woman, Mizuki panted, a hand landed on her shoulder, and she flinched in pain.

“Aw… and I thought you really had her there.” The voice teased. Pure venom stared back at him.

“It was the TSUMIKAGE! Tch. I’ll take 40% burns and being out of chakra as it having gone well.”

“Want me to help?”

“You are the LAST person I want near her, Inaba. Tch.”

“Does this mean we wait around for you to heal before our next mission.”

Mizuki stared up at Inaba. Slowly her eyes began to narrow, transitioning slowly from a look of surprise to an accusatory glare. It took her a full minute to speak. Inaba merely gloated as he waited.

“You planned this!”

“Wha? Lil ol’ me? Never. Bishamonten first. Glory to our leader Katsuhito.”
He smiled wider, pulling out a folder, and handing it to the wounded woman.

“What’s this?”

“Records I managed to swipe while you were on your playdate. Has all we need for the moment. Now come on, let’s go. Our glorious leader awaits. Hear we have some orders to break out some swordsman out of jail.” He looked down at the village. “Wonder how they’re doing?”

“Aren’t I supposed to be the supervisor here…” Mizuki grumbled as both turned and left without another word.

————————

“Are you hurt?” Clamoured one of the jounin circling the Tsumikage. Her warped features were settling back into place as the chakra dissipated.

“I’m fine,” she said finally, looking in the direction the kunoichi had fled. “They’re both outside of the village now.”

“Should we pursue?”

Ema was quiet for a long moment. “Have sensors check the areas the genin are headed, but do not engage. We don’t know what her friend’s capable of yet.” A couple jounin nodded and vanished. “Rin,” she glanced over at the ANBU stepping from the shadows. “The ANBU will be looking into this Bishamonten, I doubt this will be the last we see of them.”

The masked man nodded and eased back into the darkness out of sight.

A low sigh left her, “and make sure Minato, Naomi, and Asuka’s names are recorded. They won’t be coming home. I... sensed their crystals on those two.”

Ryuuka Tagamatsu
"Noooo! This jacket's a limited edition!" Ryuuka wailed as the frenzied movements of the spider tore at the already large hole in her beloved garment. With an impressive display of flexibility Ryuuka managed to twist an arm out of her sleeve in time to grab Aya's cloth lifeline. Using that as leverage Ryuuka was able to get her other arm free and she wriggled free of the jacket, sparing a mournful glance back at her jacket as it became ever more entangled around the spider's grotesque limb.

"I had to line up at like 4am for that thing," Ryuuka hissed through gritted teeth. "Aya hold on! I'm gonna teach this thing not to mess with a girl's clothes!" Using Aya's cloth as a rope, Ryuuka pushed off from the leg that had trapped her, swinging beneath the spider's belly like a monkey swinging from a tree. As Ryuuka approached the spider's other leg, where Shibata's crystal shuriken was embedded she inahled a deep, powerful breath.

Wind Dragon's Gift: Heavenly Battlecry

At the high point of her swing, Ryuuka exhaled sharply, the air rushing out of her chest and forcefully expanding her muscles for a sudden burst of strength that she funneled into a powerful kick at the shuriken, propelling it deeper into the creature's flesh.

All around the small shack, green extended in every direction. With Tsubaki and Kurou standing still for a moment, sounds began to become more noticiable than before, a small wrongness began to be apparent that would be easy to miss beforehand.

A weak shuffle of leaves could be heard. Bubbling and hissing as well. And one peculiar thing above all... no animals could be heard. No squeaks of mice, no chirping of birds, no buzzing of insects. Yet the entire area seemed alive, animals or no.

The path they had just came from was blocked, blade grass now forming a shield of arms, making entrance hard once more. Infact, the entire area had been shuffled around. It would take creativity to find which way was north once more.

On the ground down another seemingly random path, a small boot could be seen laying on the side of the road. Sizzling could still be heard from it, and holes formed across it, with a strange goo dripping down it, the boot full of it.

Down another path, scratches could be seen written on the ground.

A rusted kunai, half eaten away lay at the end of the writing, apparently drug away.

Okimi Bajirisuku

Right off the bat, Okimi found herself tasked with an incredibly important mission. Her own squad’s mission was postponed for unknown reasons, and then soon after she was given this assignment. For the recent academy graduate, she was already feeling like a ninja. Instead of having to do some lame starter mission, she got to help some squad not get thenselves killed or whatever the hell happen to them if she didn’t arrive.

What Okimi was told was that there was another squad of genin on a mission to gather seeds a distance from the village in a building long abandoned by the Village Hidden in Life. Okimi wasn’t given much information about the squad, but apparently they needed to retreat immediately. A map was given to her to help her get to the shack, but she had never been this far from the village. Navigating was still a bit difficult for her, even with a map. She was supposed to have caught up with them before they reached the shack, but the troubles with the map made her take wuite a bit of extra time, and Okimi was only just now approaching the shack.

Okimi stood at the edge of the field, scanning for any ninja. The plants in the field were relatively tall, so it’d be hard to see where her fellow graduates went. Of course, the best place to look would be the shack. In a practiced motion, the green haired genin brought her hand to her chest. With a brief burst of chakra, followed by a cloud of smoke, a small green dragon no longer than two feet long appeared at her feet. Short tan ridges went down the little dragons back, and his eyes shone dark red like Okimi.

“Alright Feurey, let’s find this squad and get out of here. We don’t want to start a wildfire.”

Wakanaka
Team Miho

The situation broke down as one might expect.

However, given wakanaka's ability to perceive just about... Anything... Was quite literally next to none, this came most certainly out of left field for him. people who were once faces, were now blobs of blurryness.

Sensei however did the thing, the thing being a comeplete badass sensei and taking on the blurry figure over yonder who barked at the other one to book it for a hostage. Now, Wakanaka was a near sighted fellow, but he could see far enough ahead in events to say "that was a bad idea and should be stopped immetately." As such, he had to be quick. Takeing off after the big blurry beast he managed to pass by Sachiko, when a plan popped into his brain, a plan being more like a memory of "Oh shit I might actually need this." so, with a brief tugg and pull he got the old man's care package scroll off of his back, and promptly tossed it at the red blurr named Sachiko!

"TakethethingI'mmacrushit!" the words flew out of his mouth like a chipmunk on a speeding car, that was also spinning a deadly chained weapon.

"BYTHEGODSIWILLCRUSHYOUFORYOURIMPERTENANTTRANSGRESSIONSONTHEELDERLY!!"

When in range, he began to twist quickly, throwing one end out far in a horizontally travelling arc to attempt to either twist the chain on the guy or pound him to the side.

Hayate Yamamoto

Aya crashing into the stalactite earned a slight wince from Hayate. Had it not been for the massive spider taking up most of the space, she likely would have had the room to maneuver around it. Maybe. The jounin was trying to take advantage of their unpleasant surprise to gauge how the trio responded to danger, see what they would need to work on. Files only told you so much after all. The stalactite she crashed into broke loose with a crack and crashed into the spider's back, biting deep. Before he could ask if she was alright, Aya called out that she was on a blindspot.

Ryuuka's kick struck true on the shuriken, forcing it clean through the spider's leg. Hayate tossed the severed appendage aside, casting a glance at the torn jacket still stuck on one of its other legs. He grimaced "Sorry about you jacket... Perhaps one of the Ogumo could mend it?" He offered, though they'd still need to retrieve it first.

The rock and missing leg left the massive spider reeling. It bared its fangs at its attackers, a thick, dark ichor dripping onto the cavern floor with a sizzle. It paid little attention to the bait Shibata was dangling from the ceiling. His whistle, however... The spider straightened its legs, trying to slam both Aya and Shibata into the ceiling. Hayate gritted his teeth, he'd hoped to get a better feel for them in combat before he had to act, but there would be time for that later. A few quick handsigns and a sword of blue crystal rapidly formed in his hand. Crystalline dust scattered through the air as the jounin body flickered around the cavern, blade taking the rest of the spider's legs.

"One of you drop an explosive tag on its back and finish it!" If the fangs didn't survive, oh well.

Kurio Shimizu

Kurio gave a low hum as they picked through the field on their way to the small shed. "It is somewhat boring. Though I suppose it's better than cleaning out someone's attic. I've heard of genin ending up with missions like that." He looked up at the clear sky, "But it's kind of nice to be outside of the village beyond the market..." It was also strange, leaving the new genin feeling almost exposed. He hummed as Tsubaki spoke up again, commenting on the weaponized grass. "A rather poor pun if you ask me."

But now that they'd reached the shed, the area had grown almost deathly silent. Kurio shifted his weight, trying to take in their surroundings anew. It looked nothing like when they'd first crossed through, their original path was gone altogether. Faint bubbling and hissing reached his ears, but no clear indication of where their teammate has disappeared to. He shook his head as Tsubaki started to wonder if enemy shinobi were to blame. It wasn't beyond the realm of possibility, though... "We shouldn't jump to conclusions, let's try to figure out what happened. At the very least get our bearings."

A rusty kunai caught his gaze first, Kurio frowning as looked over the writing hastily etched into the ground. "Chakra doesn't work...? Work on what?" He looked around the field once more, "On the plants?" He shifted, drawing a kunai. "The sound of an explosive tag would likely get sensei's attention..." And the attention of anything else that happened to be nearby.

He spied the boot next, a thick ooze sizzling away at the material. Kurio cursed not having taken a closer look at the exact clothing Ajisai had been wearing. "I think we should check that first." He started slowly picking his way towards it.

Goro the Bandit?
The crossbow wielding thug was surprisingly nimble despite his bulk and small stature, bouncing up and down the rocky mountain path almost like a runaway basketball. Nevertheless Wakanaka's arcing chain attack seemed to throw off his balance, although he hopped safely over the chain with a particularly large bound his landing was somewhat awkward and instead of continuing o flee he stumbled and then span around, leveling his crossbow at the genin with a muttered curse.

"Damn Brats!" Goro hissed, firing off a bolt towards Wakanaka and then digging around in his pockets for a pouch which he tossed in front of him, scattering caltrops around his position.

Miho Shimamura
While the genin squared off against their own foe, Miho's clone faced something of a predicament. Ordinarily the bandit she was squaring off against wouldn't pose much of a threat, their brief exchange had already been enough to confirm that although he was decently strong his movements were untrained and sloppy. The problem was that the clonehad a pretty limited tool set to work with right now. She'd taken only a single kunai from the original Miho's kit and as a clone she only had access to about 10% of MIho's total chakra pool, which was not all that impressive to begin with. On top of all that this musclehead was strong enough that even a clumsy or glancing blow would be enough to turn her into a puddle.

Miho's clone and the club wielding bandit stared each other down from a few paces apart then the bandit suddenly charged, perhaps sensing her hesitation, bringing his club down with a thunderous crash. Miho's clone side stepped the blow easily and lashed out at his neck with his kunai, but she scored only a slight nick before he forced her to back off with a clumsy swipe with his empty hand.

"Is that the best you got?" The bandit asked with a cocky expression. "The others were all pissing themselves when we figured out we had ninja up here with us but so far all I've seen is three snot nosed brats and a weakling,"

"Big words from someone who hasn't landed a single hit yet," Miho's clone spat back. "Have you figured out how you're actually going to win or is that too many steps ahead for your little brain?"

Where the hell is my original? I swear to god if she's taking a cigarette break I'm gonna-

"Oh I don't need to win!" Roared the bandit, closing the gap to swing his club wildly again "I just need to keep you busy until Goro squishes those three little bugs and doubles back to help me out! Real smart of you all to split up like that by the way, guess you fell for our little bluff!"

She carefully took a step toward Kurio and the path the boot was on. It was odd, she wondered if this had been there since they got there or otherwise. She crouched down, using the blade of her sword to examine it. "Could this be Ajisai's?"

It had to be right? So if they went down this path she'd have to be down there and they could get her and leave this crazy forest. But a nagging feeling told her it couldn't be that easy. They rusty kunai and the message said that it chakra doesn't work.

So maybe if chakra doesn't work does it mean that these plants are made of chakra or something? Or do they eat ours?

"If it wasn't enemies then what else could it be?" She mumbled to herself standing up, thinking to herself. She looked back at the plants as they continued to bubble and hiss. "Would you think it would be to farfetched to think the plants ate her all things considered?" Tsubaki started to walk down the path looking for other things that could indicate their missing teammate's presence

Aya

Aya felts the spider's movement through her bare feet. She jumped out of the spider's back before she got crushed between its body and the cavern's ceiling. If Ryuuka was still holding into Aya's clothes then she would be dragged onto the ground too.

"One of you drop an explosive tag on its back and finish it!" Their sensei shouted. Aya rarely use tags so the heat of the battle made her forgot it completely.

Aya pulled three explosive tags from the fabric of her kimono. She really hoped they would be able to capture the spider alive and had been rather unwilling to hurt the exotic spider all this time, but a threat is a threat. She shouldn't put her own desire above the team's safety. Gathering her resolve, she sticked the three tags into three kunais and threw them into three different spot. It's eyes, its body and its abdomen.

(Yes the story sucks but the gameplay and music are fantastic)

The atmosphere around them continued its quiet but persistent meddley of unnerving sounds, bubbles and writhing, slithering and hisses.

The boot as it was picked up dropped a small collection of bills in it, half eaten, but definitely the currency of Tsumigakure, the Ryo. The face of the current Tsumikage dissolved away. As Tsubaki walked forward down the path, and answer might be given as a large twinleaf above her twitched, green leaves with a pink center. An instant later plant like jaws snapped at her in a blur of motion, and the entire greenhouse seemed to come alive.

As the plants seperated, further in the grove, a wiggling package of green could be seen, sticky leaves slowly wrapping more around it, with a hair ornament falling from it. A recent catch, and from the size o... it was definitely Ajisai.

The venus fly trap that had snapped at Tsubaki wasn't the only creature as behind Kurio, a green tendril, filled with glistening red bumps tried to wrap around his ankle from behind.

Someone having a much better time was Okimi. The plants were calm around her, slowly shuffling and diverting rows of path from the action attacking the genin. However, with so much commotion, only someone blind would be able to miss it. Rows of swordgrass began to line the path leading to the genin, literal blades of grass patching across eachother to make knit row trying to block Okimi out.

Sachiko smirked as Shioreta and Wakanaka caught up. They deeefinitely had this. Sachiko could just sit back and reee-

Wakanaka threw her the supplies. "KYAH!"

Sachiko tumbled as she caught it, losing her footing and stumbling as she fell into a roll, the package somehow miraculously being in one piece. Wakanaka sounded like he'd just huffed cocaine! And he didn't even share! The audacity!

Shioreta, however, pointed out something that made Sachiko blink, and mutter 'crapbaskets' under her breath. Damnit this girl was bright! Sachiko should be much, much more worried about her. Sachiko herself hadn't even thought of that.

"Can't always be the smartest in the room..." she muttered under her breath, before realizing she was live.

"Yup, yup, this sounds difficult!"

The bandit seemed to agree, turning to with a crossbow bolt. Sachiko gave an actual 'eep' this time, no fakeness about it, she hadn't been paying attention to the man nearly as well as she should have. If it was her, she might be with a hole in her head. She managed to refocus on the makibishi. A deep breath could be heard. Reaching into her backpack, she reached into her black forbiddne pouch, and pulled out... a book!

~Tequila Mockingbird: 1001 Puns to Win Enemies and Influence People~

Throwing it forward, it slammed on the ground, leaving a safe spot for travel in the middle of the spikes.

"Waka! Step on the book if you wish to live!"

Okimi Bajirisuku

“These plants... do plants normally move this fast?”

Okimi watched as her path to the shed was swiftly blocked off by rows and rows of oddly sharp looking grass. Perhaps the moving plants were the reason the squad needed to retreat.

“Feurey, would you care to open up a path for me?”

The little green dragon let out a snort and approches the grass. He took in a deep breath and then released a torrent of fire before him, burning through the grass trying to block Okimi’s way. The corners of her face rose slightly, before she and Feurey began running through the burning path, smiling happily all the way through.

It didn’t take long for her to reach the shed, but the entrance was totally blocked off by plants. Feurey was breathing heavier at her side, and held his head low.

“You can relax for a minute, I’ll try to get us inside.”

Okimi took a couple steps back. She formed a swift series of handsigns, before pointing her open palm at the side of the warehouse. A small fiery ball floated forth from her palm, taking a couple seconds to reach the wall. Once it did however, the ball exploded with great force.

“Let’s hope that got us a way in!”

Shioreta Koino

Shioreta watched as Waka had gotten close swinging with his rather unwieldy looking weapon. While it didn't manage to connect it did at least prompt the man to stop his sprint shifting his focus to attacking instead. It was that much clear they weren't typical bandits, the man's appearance being quite misleading to what he was capable of. The sickly girl approached using this chance to gain distance despite her slower speed. She watched as the man fired a bolt at Waka catching sight of the caltrops he laid out before him as defense. He was agile but he seemed to rely upon ranged combat. Trying to keep him in close range would likely be their best option to take him down quickly and avoid getting hurt in the process.

The Genin was close enough in range to use her puppet still some distance away though enough that she could get her puppet in range and easily move herself to push its distance further should the man retreat. She held her hands out, Chakra strings quickly extending out and attaching to her puppet. The sound of the wood shifting and clicking together could be heard as the 'claws' keeping the puppet on her back suddenly released causing the puppet to fall off her back. The dog puppet sprang to life standing on all fours as the tail that had been tucked inside the body extended out one section at a time in rapid succession causing a wood to click with each segment pupping out. The tail stood up as if wagging as the puppet twitched its head twisting a bit snapping properly in place. Shioreta's fingers moved the entire time seemingly directing the puppet as it finally began to dash forward moving as if it was a real dog towards the man and the field of caltrops he laid.

The young puppet user watched from the corner of her eye as Sachiko tossed a book forward watching as it landed in the middle of the spike field to give Waka a safe spot to move. Such a thing wasn't a worry for her puppet as its wooden paws simply stepped right upon the caltrops not needing to worry about being pieced running through the hazard to the side before taking a turn curving around as to attack the bandit from the side letting Waka focus on attacking head hopefully with the bandit distracted with her puppet. She moved forward a bit as she controlled the puppet making sure she could move the puppet further out should he attempt to back off further away making sure there was enough slack with her threads to cover extra distance to try and reach the man if he retreated.

Shio's fingers moved directing the puppet as its mouth suddenly snapped partially open exposing the razor sharp blades acting as teeth hidden underneath the lip flaps. The head tilted to the side as it came in as if to bite the man with his short stature. The 'teeth' were aimed more so to try and clamp down at his exposed side attempting to catch whatever limb may it be leg or arm it might catch first if the man wasn't smart enough to move in time. If it bite down and clamped down on him it would make it that much easier to help limit his movements and make him an easier target for her teammates.

Wakanaka

...huh? Man lots of things were happening.

Focus Waka what can you see... blurr rolled, pointed something at him, a thwip sound, he was fired at.

What did he learn back in school, how to dodge ranged projectiles. He remembers the lesson... At too great a range going low is a detriment due to the drop of the arrow or such. It would be best, if the point of firing is known to side step, but... Well... hes got another coin toss in if the weapon was fired by a professional or amatur, or if the weapon is low quality enough for large deviation at such a quick shot....

Oh well.

Fortune favors the bold!!!

So says the mental gymnastics done in the fractions of seconds between the shot and Wakanaka running.

In truth it went more like this.

Hearing the sound of the weapon firing his body reacted naturally and ducked low, nearly tripping forwards at the missmanagment of one's steps, the bolt grazzed his back just barely as Waka stepped on a well placed book, his face lowered due to the duck, saw the caltrips, thanking the gods for the strangely placed book, gave a quick one footed leap forwards.

But heres the tricky part!

He would not have reached far enough with one hop to clear the trap... But his second hop was also covered by the book! How? Because he is a good student! Utilizing tree climbing technique he kept the book on his footwear enough to block the blow twice! He mentally congratulated himself, his brain released seratonin, it was a wonderful time.

But now... Another thing entered the fray.

Ah.. best he understand the situation before smashing...

He began to circle the battlefield, spinning one end of his weapon as he went, keeping it towards the enemy(s?)

"WHY-"

"YOU-"

"STAND STILL SO I CAN CRUSH YOU!?" Howled the bandit pursuing Miho's clone as he swung his club wildly yet again, knocking down a sapling in his haste to catch up to the clone nimbly weaving her way through the bushes and trees that grew atop the mountain. The bandit had a few shallow gashes along his forearms, where the clone had managed to get close enough to slash at him with her kunai but they were bleeding only lightly and her chakra was still draining at a steady pace. Meanwhile the trail of destruction the bandit had blazed through the forest with his reckless attacks told Miho's clone he was still plenty strong enough to take her out with even a glancing blow.

The clone hopped back lightly, avoiding another overhead strike that passed close enough to her face to blow back her hair before slamming into the ground. THe bandit seemed to favour those overhead strikes, probably his natural strength allowed it to pretty reliably overwhelm any rival or ill equipped village militiamen he had encountered up until now and he had come to rely on it as a finisher. That was useful information and it was part of the plan Miho's clone had been chewing on while she danced around the brute who was chasing her, but she'd been kind of hoping something better would come along.

Suddenly though the clone's foot caught on an outgrown root and she fell backwards, landing prone as the bandit loomed over her with a wicked grin. The club went up and then that favoured overhead strike came crashing down like a scorpion's tail... or perhaps a gorilla trying to brain someone with a rock. Elegant it was not, but it was certainly effective and the clone was splattered into inanimate water, her life ended prematurely even considering how temporary it had been intended to be.

Ahhh shit thought the clone, as the chakra configurations making up her consciousness dissolved rapidly. I won't get to see his face when he realises it.

Meanwhile the bandit stood over what was now a puddle of water with a confused expression. He had heard that ninjas could make clones of themselves so he wasn't confused about that. He was disappointed that he hadn't managed to kill a shinobi outright sure, but he figured he could just lie about her being a clone and add to his reputation with the other bandits. No that wasn't what confused the bandit, he was confused by the little round thing poking out of the ground where the clone had been, it seemed familiar. Then it hit him, that was the ring on the end oof the knife the woman had been fighting with, she had somehow fallen so that the blade was behind her back, pointing downwards so that his last swing had driven it down into the rock.

Suddenly there was a crack and the outcropping of rock the bandit was standing on, weakened by the kunai he had driven into its centre, collapsed into pieces and the bandit fell quite suddenly down the side of the mountain.

Goro the bandit
Focused as he was on Wakanaka, the fat little bandit didn't notice Shioreta's puppet until it was too late to avoid entirely and the dog's razor sheep pseudo teeth were able to clamp down on his arm. The rotund man howled a curse, but he seemed to be thinking quickly despite the pain and jammed his crossbow into the puppet's jaws, using it as a lever to pry them open. With his arm free Goro seized the puppet by its tail and swung it over his head once, twice before releasing it in surprisingly powerful throw aimed back at Shioreta.

The bandit's next move was to reach for dagger on his belt, but the whole ordeal with the puppet had been enough of a distraction for him to have left an opening for a few vital moments....

Sachiko watched as Waka played hopscotch with her book.

"Come on, man... Guess this is divine punishment for my book."

It took the book away, meaning Sachiko couldn't use it. Also the book went from a few holes in it to destroyed. She'd remember this, Sachiko thought as she shook her fist at him.

She was a long range combatant anyways, and stopped at the mikobishi. Staring at the man, she saw him prying off the puppet from his arm. Sachiko flinched, those bite marks looked painful.

"Shio. Remind me not to anger you. Ever. I think you just got exempted from my trolling list. Waka however..." She watched him hopscotch again with her book. Yup, he just earned the top spot. She smiled evilly, before focusing on the bandit. She'd only get one more good attack in on him. Reaching into her bag, she drew a single kunai, her entire body freezing as she aimed at one point...

After a second, she released, her kunai flying more like an arrow than a knife, aimed at a cut straight at his leather belt for that knife, to let it drop to the floor with thud. The kunai was so fast she doubted anyone would really notice it, but they'd surely noticed the results. The man, however, was busy winding up the dog puppet, hurling him above his head again and again and-

"Shio! Watch out!"

Sachiko dove infront of Shio, taking the puppet to the face instead, hopefully with just enough force to push it out the way. That man was stronger than he looked!

Ryuuka Tagamatsu
Ryuuka's kick took her a few metres clear of the spider and rolled as she hit the ground while the now legless arachnid fell to the ground behind her. Dimly Ryuuka registered Hayate saying something about explosive tags, but Ryuuka didn't really have much of a knack for those, in fact Gramps had refused to even let her near them ever since she'd blown up their bathroom that one time.

So someone else would have to handle the explosives, Ryuuka had something else in mind.

"I'll get the fangs!" Ryuuka called, flipping over on her side into a sprinter's crouch then launching herself towards the creature's mouth with a body flicker that saw her disappear from sight for a split second. When Ryuuka reappeared she was aiming a spinning kick at the creature's fangs, knocking them out of if its mouth so that the momentum of her body flicker carried herself and the prized mandible clear of the spider just before Aya's tags exploded.

Shioreta Koino

Shioreta watched and could feel with her threads as the teeth bit into the man's arm much to her delight. She had expected the man would of evaded her puppet though it seemed her never accounted for such an odd contraption that could bypass his simple though effective obstacle, only further contributed by Waka's great, though rather goofy distraction. The jaws were rather clamped down tight on him due to the mechanism though lacking the raw force of her more 'devastating' technique. Despite being 'bitten' by the dog puppet he was swift to react prying the teeth off only further confirming to her despite any 'fumbles' he seemed to have he was far more resourceful then he seemed.

She turned her head looking over at Sachiko as she commented about not angering her. The frail girl blinked as she tilted her head to the side seeming to give a curious and slightly oblivious look as to what she might be referring. She wasn't exactly sure what to make of her comment. It was a... compliment? At least she assumed it was. Her worry about angering her did confuse her a bit. As far as Shioreta was concerned its not as if she did anything really that surprising, the supposed 'brutality' of it all but falling on deaf ears. Perhaps she was a bit more... sadistic then most though she didn't really see it that way. She simply gave a sweet smile as she tended to use as her default reaction, though perhaps in that case it came off a bit more sinister.

The distraction had left Shio half aware of what was going on. She could feel her puppet being suddenly forcefully moved though her head turned back just as the last spin was being made as he released it towards her. The genin looked a bit surprised quickly lambasting herself in her own head as she began to tug at the threads trying to pull the puppet to one side and try to duck to the other though it would hit her almost completely head on before she would really have any chance to dodge. Fortunately for her and likely less so for Sachiko she watched her teammate jump infront of her taking the puppet head on. She looked a bit shocked feeling the collision herself though in a far less painful way through the chakra threads as the puppet quickly fell to the floor after striking her teammate.

"Are you alright, Sachiko?"
She asked a bit worried, her fingers quickly moving as to cause the puppet to creak as she shifted its balance rolling itself over from its side gripping the ground with two of its legs before propping itself back up snapping into a place with a click as she had the tail sway as to test it was still working properly after being thrown. Its mouth opened testing its bite with a short pull of the jaws quickly checking up on its status as she looked over at Sachiko. While it was likely more expected she might come over to Sachiko to check her condition herself even after her brief blunder she was more then aware the danger wasn't over and her puppet was still her best form of both offense and defense as she kept it in front of the girl as if to stand guard, the puppet twitching slightly as it remained at the ready. Right now all she could do was play defensive and hope Waka could take advantage of the moment to hopefully retaliate for their sake.

Shibata Yamamoto
Hopping to another stalactite Shibata's chakra grip faltered making his foot skid across the surface of the rock and stick in a patch of webbing, hissing at the foul up he grabbed for a kunai and began trying to pry himself loose. Taking a quick glance back over his shoulder he yelped seeing the spider reaching up towards him and frantically hacked at the web until he came loose and dropped to the floor landing awkwardly but safely on his feet.

Scrambling away he watched his sensei flicker around the cavern cleanly severing the remaining legs with a look of wonder, he'd heard of his uncle's skill and seen a little of him training but seeing the non-traditional crystal style in combat was a sight to see.

Seeing the limbless beast fall he remembered the secondary objective and went for the fangs but found Ryuuka beat him to it, feeling slightly annoyed at having his thunder stolen Shibata Jumped away from the explosives and made another mirror as a shield against any flying chunks. "Ryuuka! Aya! Cover over here!"

Waiting for the Chance to Die
Far away, in the land of castles...

"CHOW TIME! LINE UP YOU WORTHLESS SACKS OF BONES!" Takamoto called in his usual, coarse voice while his partner, the new kid, ladled out their rice and soup into the cheap, wooden bowls they used to serve the prisoners.

One by one the emaciated, rag clad figures shuffled up to their cell gates to receive their daily meal with hollow eyes. The prisoners in Tekabe prison rarely caused much trouble. Despite the fact that they were the worst of the worst, the most vile and dangerous men and women to be captured alive they nearly all eventually came to realise that they were never leaving. No one ever left Tekabe Prison, the reason? it was both a prison and a ninja village.

The prison's more proper name was Kabegakure, the village hidden in walls and every guard, every lookout, even every last cleaner was a fully fledged shinobi specializing in detaining and controlling prisoners. Unlike regular shinobi villages who sent out their ninjas to take all kinds of jobs, Kabegakure shinobi stayed home and the jobs came to them. Every country and village in the world had people they wanted to never see the light of day again and Kabegakure was paid handsomely to ensure that those people stayed locked away forever.

Takamoto kept a watchful eye over the new kid from twelve paces behind him, far enough that if a prisoner was able to kill one of them the other would have time to react. Anything related to the prisoners was done in pairs like this, with one person doing the work and a more experienced watcher ready to react in case anyone tried something. Although the worker role was always filled by the more junior guard it was actually far more dangerous: prisoners would watch you like a hawk for the moment you had your hands full or you were turned the wrong way, then they would strike like cornered rats. The real role of the watcher wasn't to keep the worker safe, it was to put down any escape attempt after a prisoner managed to kill them. Takamoto had already lost three worker partners since being promoted to jonin and taking up the position. You got used to it, casualties were inevitable, just like any other ninja village Kabegakure was fighting a war, the only difference was that their war was stationery and contained to a single location where both sides lived, slept and died with only a line of bars separating them.

Takamoto had a good feeling about the new kid though. The kid, Shizuma maybe, was sharp, hardworking and got along with the prisoners without ever letting his guard down, with a little luck he might just-

Suddenly Takamoto lunged forwards, grabbing Shizuma's wrist and slamming it into the wall between cells.

"Oh hey! What gives!" Demanded Shizuma angrily, though the indignation

Takamoto simply said nothing for a moment, fighting to get his nerves under control as he slowly gestured with his head towards the bowl of rice in Shizuma's trapped hand.

"Prisoner 324 Does. Not. Get. chopsticks with his rice." Takamoto said finally, releasing his death grip on Shizuma's wrist. His voice was slow, measured but laden with urgency and dread. "Prisoner 324 gets nothing long and straight whatsoever because even a chopstick is close enough to a sword for him to use his kenjutsu techniques,"

To his credit the new kid took the lesson well, nodding firmly with wide eyes. "W-what would happen if he got his hands on a real sword?" he asked.

Takamoto shook his head as he retrieved the chopsticks from the bowl intended for prisoner 324 and crushed them in his hand. "You're not getting it. Just the chopstick would be enough for him to cut down every guard in this place, including the Kabekage, and stroll out through the front door. If he got an actual sword well... Let's just say his followers call him 'The man who will cut the world'

"Oh please." An ancient, creaking voice floated over to Shizuma and Takamoto, causing the younger guard to flinch. As long as Shizuma had been working food cart duty prisoner 324 had never spoken, Shizuma had sort of supposed that he couldn't, that under the heavy chains that bound all four of his limbs and the sack that covered his face his mouth was also gagged as yet another precaution against his escape. Now it was apparent that prisoner 324 simply chose not to speak most of the time.

"My followers call me 'Old Man' or maybe 'Boss' when they want a favour, it's my enemies that call me 'the man who will cut the world' do you know why boy?"

Shizuma gulped nervously, he had never seen the old man without the hood on, had he approximated his captor's age just by listening to his voice or footsteps?

"It's because a man's worth is determined by how he dies," The old man said, his voice cracking like dead tree branches. "Life is nothing more than awaiting a chance to die well and being cut down by 'the man who will cut the world' is just about as good as you can get for a death."

"What a pity then that your death will be to rot away in a prison cell," said Takamoto coldly, trying to take control of the situation and placing a reassuring hand on Shizuma's shoulder.

There was a long, quivering laugh from inside the cell. "Maybe it will be, but I'll keep waiting nevertheless. Maybe my chance will come along one of these days..."

Wakanaka

Yelps, screams and yelling.

Can a battle never be quiet? He considered this as his hands graced along the chains... An opening, and a chance... He had attempted to strike him with a crossbow(found out just now since seeing it) and harmed one of his team mates.

Punishment is clear.

He spun the right head twice for momentum, then swung the right head horizontally to clout the man in the side, the other head he spun slow and with lots of slack and aimed low, for the legs.

A type of scissoring motion would knock the man over to the left, with which he would spin once more and bring the right hammer down upon his head for a direct blow. If the manuver worked that is.

At times like these, he thanks his hands for being ambidexterous.

Kurio Shimizu

Kurio grimaced at Tsubaki's suggestion, looking at the writhing field around them. "Everything in here was being grown by Inochigakure as some form of weapon... I wouldn't rule out the possibility." It was supposed to be an easy mission, completely risk-free. But here they were, with a good chance one or more of them could get killed. He swallowed back the bubbling fear, keeping his usual mask of calm firmly in place. Panic wouldn't do anyone any good here. Not if they wanted to survive.

A plant twitched in front of them, starting to move for Tsubaki. "Look o-!" His call of warning died in his throat as something started to brush the hem of his pants. Spinning around, he threw a pair of shuriken into the offending vine before hopping aside. He caught sight of a hair pin falling from a nearby bundle of leaves, glinting in the sun. The leaves twitched and writhed as they constricted tighter around their captured prey. "She's this way!" Kurio called out, running towards it. "Help me cut her out." Already his kunai was biting into one of the leaves. He couldn't cut too deeply, didn't want to risk injuring Ajisai any further than she likely already was.

Kurio froze, the acrid smell of smoke was drifting on the air. What now? Dark eyes quickly searched the field, finally catching sight of a dark plume of smoke. It was close, far too close for his liking. Ichiro seemed more the type to come tearing through the field as opposed to setting it ablaze. With one kunai sunk into Ajisai's bonds, he pulled out a second, wrapping an explosive tag around the handle before throwing it skyward.

Hayate Yamamoto

Hayate watched, relieved as everyone had managed to avoid getting themselves squished by the massive spider. Shibata had briefly gotten caught in the copious amount of webbing spread everywhere, but cut himself loose in the nick of time. Ryuuka became a blur of movement as she tore the fangs off in a well-placed kick while Aya peppered the spider with explosive tags.

This was going to get messy...

"Aya! Get behind Shibata's crystal before detonating those!" In a burst of crystalline dust, Hayate lunged in a body flicker of his own, scooping up Ryuuka's tattered jacket before landing next to her. Three handsigns and he was holding his hands out, a large, reflective sheet of crystal forming in front him as his student. A shield for what was to come. The tags went off in a deafening bang, completely coating the entire cavern in bits of spider. Only whatever was behind the pair of mirrors had been left untouched by the resulting carnage.

However, detonating a number of explosives in such a small space would leave everyone's ears ringing.

The jounin heaved a sigh as he looked over everyone. They were mostly unharmed, if not more than a little dirty should they have ventured past the crystal shields early. Stooping to pick up the dropped fangs, Hayate passed Ryuuka her torn jacket. With the large hole left in it, it wasn't exactly wearable. But perhaps her teammate could get it repaired? With a slightly exaggerated wave, Hayate motioned for everyone to follow him out. Pointedly ignoring the squelch of spider guts under his sandals as he left the cavern.

The ringing would have mostly left by the time they made it back out into the fresh air. The sky was alight with the mid-morning sun, they had been in there for several hours. He turned to face them, "Well done, all of you. I know the mission ended up being far outside of its original scope, but you all handled yourselves well in the heat of battle." Hayate offered the trio a smile as he spoke. "Now, I believe I owe you three lunch. A deal's a deal after all. I have some paperwork to take care of first, but that should leave you..." He tapped his chin, "About an hour to agree on a place and meet me by the mission office. I'll see you then."

In a burst of crystal, both the jounin and fangs were gone. Fluttering in his wake was a small scrap of paper. Scrawled on it was an address, along with "Dr. Ryu - client."

Tsubaki Sana

Tsubaki stared at the bills scattered at her feet from their country, poking at it with her blade. 'Welp. That answered that. Eaten by plants....and I thought they weren't allowed to give genin the fun missions.' She chuckled humorlessly to herself as she looked up as she heard the beginning of a warning only to let out a supprised shriek as she saw the large plant coming toward her. She quickly swiped her blade at the offending plant as she quickly jumped back. "Thanks Kurio!"

She ran towards him as he shouted for help to free their trapped teammate. She carefully sunk a blade into the plant to work free Ajisai. As much as she wanted to hack the plant to pieces, she was pretty sure hacking the plant willy nilly could possibly and would possibly hurt or kill her. Last thing anyone wanted was dead genin. Although Tsubaki was pretty sure this mission could be a cautionary tale on why we don't leave genin alone in the woods.
