Something to prove (Gman and ShadyAce)

The Rockbourne troops were finally in range of the solders on the wall. The solders of Esterbell let loose the arrows and began dropping the advancing enemies. Aurus himself was trying his best to focus on the battering ram that was approaching the gate. Things were going well so far, no enemy solder was making it to the wall and they were unable to form lines with their shields. Aurus climbed down the wall to get more arrows when he saw Amara. He quickly ran to her. "Amara where were you? I need you with me to command." he said.

Aurus listened carefully to what she had to say. She seemed out of breath as she explained what the enemy was planning. "Attacking from behind?" He said worriedly.

He had thought so much about the gate he didn't realize that the enemy could attempt to scale the walls. Before he could say anything, the girl was already gone. "Dammit." He growled before looking at a handful of troops. "You 5 go support her. If anything happens then send a messenger."

Just then he heard a loud series of bangs on the gate. The battering ram had finally reached its destination. "Hot oil now! Stop them from breaking it down." He barked before returning to the wall.

(Sorry about delay, was really busy.)

Things were looking bright at the gate. They were able to keep the battering ram back enough so that they couldn't hit the gate anymore times. Aurus called for more arrows and hot oil to be delivered to the top of the wall. Despite their ability to push them back, the number of enemy troops did not seem to dwindle at all. They simply kept coming. Aurus nervously gripped the handle of his sword as the night went on. Every so often a solder at the wall would get hit by a stray arrow and need to be carried to the medical station set up inside. That was when the banging returned. A look of horror crossed his face as he looked at the gate starting to break away. A piece of the reinforced wood broke off to reveal the face of a Rockbourne solder. "Oh god not now." he whispered.

A few moments past as the solders inside the fort began bracing the gate. Aurus was up front trying his best to keep the gate from breaking. He knew it was a futile effort and that they would eventually get in. However, reinforcements were scheduled to arrive in the morning so if he could hold on for just a bit longer then they would be saved. At this rate, he could only pray for them to come faster.

At the same time, he worried for Amara and how she was faring against the advancing enemy from behind. He sent 5 solders but were they really enough to back her up. A solder on the wall called out to those below. Aurus looked up in time to see the sun beginning to rise as followed by a large volley of arrows flying towards the enemy at the gate. He stepped back from the wall and watched in awe as his prayers were answered. He quickly sprinted towards the back of the castle to check on Amara's status.

Aurus quickly scaled the wall and jumped over to see Amara collapsed on the ground. He ordered the solders to form up around her as he bent down to inspect whether or not she was still alive. He let out a sigh of relief when he felt that she was still breathing. The enemy troops had all fled by now giving him time to pick her up and walk around the fort through the gate to take her into the medical station. The area was populated with a couple of troops that got hit while on the wall and a few of them had died. However thanks to the reinforcement, more supplies had been brought as well as a force of 1000 solders which brought the total number to 1100. This was the force that would be attacking the Rockbourne lines. After Aurus laid the girl down on the bed, he went to go speak with the commander of the reinforcements. The morning sun warmed the area as troops disposed of the bodies that piled up at the gate.

Aurus was just finished talking to the commander when he saw the elf girl walking towards him. His eyes went wide as he quickly walked over to her to support her body. "I put you in the medical station for a reason you know. You've done so much to save us. Now you need to rest." he spoke softly.

While what he said was true, Aurus was not in the best condition either. He had a cut on his cheek and side where a few arrows had grazed him where his armor was weak. His shoulder was also very bruised from bracing the door with his body. But he couldn't show weakness to the now large army that occupied this fort. As solders disposed of the bodies at the gate, they were also setting up tents outside considering they couldn't all fit inside the fort. The force of 1100 solders and a few siege engines were going to counter attack the enemy stronghold which was a large castle that served as the Rockbourne army's base of operations.

Aurus felt the girl hug him tightly suddenly. He was surprised but then he saw that she was incredibly worried for him. He wrapped his arms around her to return the hug. "If I died? That's not going to happen." he said softly.

He looked down at her and brushed her hair away from her face. Seeing Amara like this was heart breaking. She always put so much pressure on herself to protect him. His own injuries were not too bad but they still hurt. However, Amara had blacked out during the battle and sustained way more damage then he wanted. He felt responsible for her safety just as much as she did for him. "You saved us from the army behind us. Without you, we wouldn't be standing here right now." his words tried to comfort her.

Aurus looked around and saw that most of the army was already at work in repairing the small fort and setting up tents. The commander that had arrived was leading them much better then he ever could. Aurus thought that maybe a break would be appropriate at the moment. The soldiers would pass along stories of how Aurus managed to hold off so many Rockbourne soldiers with so little troops. That was enough proving for now until the final siege would begin. Aurus looked over at the elf walking away and quickly caught up to her. "Hold on, I'll come with you. I don't want you blacking out again." he said with a smirk.

The sky had brightened up as the morning stretched further. The dead were buried while the living made preparations for the siege. Ending the war would mean that they would finally be able to go home. The public's opinion would overall be better but Aurus feared that he may still have not done enough.

(Welcome back!)

Aurus walked up next to the elf girl and looked ahead at the land. The grass was trampled and bodies littered the floor. Compared to how green and beautiful it was just a few hours ago, it brought the prince back to reality. The war still had a ways to go before things would become better. As the two walked, the bodies and blood were far behind them leaving only the green scenery illuminated by the morning sun. "Let's inspect the area up ahead by the forest." he said as he began walking in that direction.

Before he had left, he had removed most of his armor making it much easier to walk. His sword still secured onto his belt in case anything should happen. The warm sun felt comfortable against his skin. It warmed the small areas where he had sustained cuts and bruises. As they neared the forest, he spoke up again. "Do you think we'll have enough power to attack the Rockbourne castle?" he asked.

Aurus swung around a few trees before turning back to the girl. The trees blocked out the morning sun and formed cold shadows that made him shiver slightly. Her talk of miracles was definitely something he agreed with. "It is honestly a miracle that I'm still alive. If it wasn't for you, I would have died just trying to get here." he said with a small smile.

What he said was true. His inability with fighting as well as his poor physical condition made surviving out in the war torn lands nearly impossible. There were so many instances where Amara had saved his life that he had lost count. With her help combined with his sheer dumb luck, Aurus might just be able to make it out of this war alive. The wildlife in the forest had woken up and began running around to whatever task they had set. The noises created a calming environment around the two.

Aurus looked around to get a sense of his surroundings. They had wondered around the forest for a while and the trees created a dense cover which was hard to see around. "Honestly my accomplishments have mostly been luck. Hopefully that luck never runs out." he said as he looked around. "Come on, I see the edge of the forest over there."

He began walking towards the light passing between the spaces among the trees. It was a rough path with roots and rocks constantly tripping him but eventually the two made it out of the forest. Before them was grassy plains that have not yet been ruined by war. A small river flowed through with animals around it drinking. "Well we went a bit far." he commented.

"Let's rest here for a while before heading back." Aurus said as he walked over to the small river.

The animals paid no attention to him as they continued on with what they were doing. He sat himself down by the river's edge and looked at his reflection. It was bright and his reflection showed has small cuts and bruises he had sustained in the previous night's siege. He feared that in the coming days, he would sustain more of these. He took out his sword and examined it making sure it wasn't damaged. If someone snuck up on the two then it would be disaster if his sword was not in the best shape. He looked over at Amara and saw she was adjusting her weapon. "You should relax. The enemy troops probably ran off back to their castle by now." he said.

(Want to timeskip to the siege?)

Aurus nodded with a small smile while relaxing by the water. This was only going to be a temporary break before things became serious again and that was when everything was on the line.

A month and a half later, the army consisting of two thousand soldiers was marching toward the enemy castle. More reinforcements had arrived to aid their attack since this would be the battle that would decide the war. The journey was long and the troops were forced to take many breaks along the way but Aurus was all too eager. This entire time he had been training his fighting technique with the help of Amara. Although he was still no stronger then an average fighter, it was a definite improvement.

Aurus helped pack up the camping gear in the morning as everyone prepared to move out. The castle was only a day's journey from here and the troops were getting restless. He had been outfitted with new armor and weapons making him look much more leader like.

Aurus was staring off into the road ahead before being brought back to earth by a nudge. He turned to see Amara who seemed calm. He smiled and fixed the sword on his belt. "Ready as I'll ever be. There's no turning back from this." he said while looking down.

His new armor was lighter and easier to move in which fit well with his new found skill and strength. Although he was still a league away from Amara so he needed her by his side. The rest of the army was ready and packed up. They put everything in the carts and began saddled them to the horses. Aurus turned back to the army and gave everyone a look. They were well rested and ready. Each soldier looked back at Aurus with determination in their eyes. "Lets move out! We'll be there before sundown." Aurus called out before mounting his horse.

The other high ranking officers got on their horses and readied themselves to march. Aurus looked back at Amara with a smile. "Stay close to me alright?" he said.
