Im curious.


It says that Quicksilver hand of dreams begins to be leanred in ones dreams


do you think a solar who learns the basics of the form would be killed by gold faction members who found out... or do you think they may TENATIVELY consider teaching him the more advance parts of the style...


I know it would probaly be case by case... since lyta probaly WOULD be killed.


big problem is its harder to regulate then the other styles.
 
Gold faction? Well...read Cult of the Illuminated. At least some within the cult's Gold Faction Sidereals do intend to teach Solars Sid martial arts...considering one is just waiting for someone he feels is ready, and another has been mention as having already taught some of Prismatic Arrangement of Creation. I'd give page numbers, but I'm not feeling the best atm, and I'd rather not go looking while waiting for pain meds to kick in. The real question is would any of them either a) Know Quicksilver Hand of Dreams, or b) be willing to teach that specific style, or c) Does your ST want that style in their game.


A) It's not a very common style, and the Gold is mostly made up of relativelly young Sidereals.


B) It basically is a style that teached one to break Creation and the Loom locally...doesn't seem to in keeping with the Sidereal paradigm to teach such easilly...but might happen...though seems less than likely


C) Personally, I know I'm unlikely to allow it in my own games...the form charm in particular is flat out insane...you know, the whole Immortality thing...and all actions being near perfect...and simply being able to ignore others actions against oneself... all capable without living past a mortal lifespan? In a single charm. Ah...NO. The style won't be seeing itself in my games any time soon. But that's personal preference, mileage may vary. (and likely does, some may love the style passionately...I'm not one such)
 
I figured the idea that they were teaching prismatic order of creation, as if it was just another martial art thing was BS...
 
Way I see it, a siddie has to be a bit bent out of whack to learn that style... ad would have to be very bent out of whack to teach it...so the siddies that would teach it are the ones who went from a bit out to a lot out i n the learning of it (which would be a good portion)
 
Of course that adds the other question...can the Solar remember their Sidereal Sifu even exists long enough to learn anything? The forgetting effect is like Arcane Fate on crack...better hope Sifu isn't using their style's charms much...or the Solar doing so either, and Sifu forgetting them instead...
 
Ever since I first read that style, I've been in love with it. Not just the style itself, but also the many different plot-hooks that can be tied up on it.


First of all, for the first couple of charms or so, the MA style doesn't even look like a Sidereal MA, but rather like an odd Celestial style. So unless the Solar is being actively monitored by the Sidereals, they are unlikely to discover that something is amiss here.


Second of all, the charms of the Quicksilver Hand of Dreams Style, up to and counting the form charm, can be learned from dreams without the need of a teacher. These dreams can come from anywhere: the Neverborn, the Yozis, the Fair Folk, some insane, dreaming behemoth, an ancient celestial Exalt trapped in the Wyld, etc etc. The dreams may be passively reaching out to anyone capable of learning them, or they may be actively transmitted to a particular individual for whatever reason.


Third of all, once the Sidereals of either faction become aware of the fact that someone is teaching Sidereal MA to a Solar in Creation, they will likely like to know who it is, so instead of killing the Solar right away, they will probably go undercover to get close to him and find out who his sifu is. When they do decide to kill him, you can have him saved or assisted by whatever pro-/antagonistic entity you've decided is teaching him the Quicksilver Hand of Dreams Style.
 
The only thing i was thinking is probably whats already been said


that once there is a recognized sidereal teaching the style to a celestial then yes something might be done


but other then that i dont see why it wouldnt be possible for a solar to learn the charms from the dreams
 
I'd say as a purely personal opinion that a Solar that has mastered Dreaming Pearl Courtesan stands a greater chance of learning this style.


Having read the form charm carefully, I must say that although it's certainly very powerful, it's not 'Broken' if you apply a restriction to the reincarnation bit.


The perfect effects apply to individuals who are not stunting or using charms, and a siderial martial artist is going to be able to practically ignore that class of opponent anyway.


When applying the effects to others (Those stunting or using magic), one rolls one's essence against an external penalty (not difficulty, if I recall) of the opponent's essence.


Thus, even for an essence six Siddie/Solar fighting an essence 2 DB, every attack/defence against the stunting opponent (Remember how easy a 1-die stunt is?) requires a difficulty 3 essence roll to apply the form.


The reincarnation? Assume the same roll must be made, after selecting a target, if you're worried about it. So, within the range specified in the charm, one must pick a target and roll at difficulty (Their Essence + 1) to succeed. If you feel like being tougher, make it difficulty +2 again, so Essence+3.


As to interesting ideas for the origin of the Style? Perhaps the first master was forgotten entirely by creation, and was thus dropped from the loom and from Gaia herself, as creations of Wyld Shaping are eventually. She persists only as a loose consciousness, yearning for someone to join her in her solitude outside of existance. So, she teaches the style to others, hoping for them to suffer the same fate.


Perhaps the Greatest Unshaped, upon realising their invasion was to be a failure, worked a casting of Glamour Sorcery of such potency that they imbued something of their Heart Graces into the fabric of humanity's dreams. From whence do the greatest of creative dreams come, but to those receptive enough and powerful enough, the Dreams force something more, an infiltration of wyld creative impulse coupled with the parasitic Dream-eating of the Raksha.
 
I already told my players that before they can even begin to think they can  learn this style that I have to be bribed, majorly. The reincarnation and the Fantasy charms alone push the limits in many different ways.


One of the guys wants it so badly that he is buying me another Core book for 2nd ed. And considering that we are all going off of soft copies from drivethru that isn't such a bad thing.

Isn't external penalty always added difficulty? That's the impresion i got from reading the core...
 
Just had a thought on this style as I was glancing over its charms.  In the description it says that the use of armor is prohibited until you get the charm that lets you use gossamar stuff.  So, could a Fae learn this style without that restriction since they work with gossamar as a natural ability?
 
I thought that the Fae could learn Celestal level arts also.
 
Fair Folk cannot use Creation Martial Arts, as they are not beings of Creation.  How this functions with Sidereal Martial Arts is unknown.  Fae-Blooded can learn TMA, as they are beings born of Creation, but their parents do not seem to gain this perk.
 
Root of the Perfercted Lotus lets Fea learn MAs as DBs, so actually they can learn CMAs too, but still no SMAs.


And as a house ruled id let Lunars learn Quicksiler Hand, cuz i think it fits thematically but thats just IMO.
 
In the Exalted Wiki, there was a article on how to play a Fae in Creation.  It suggested purchasing a CMA, since most of the charms listed for them focus entirely on Wyld shaping.

Indeed, give us something to cling to. I've gone through SotM several times and can see no mention of the Fair Folk learning Creation-styles, whether Terrestrial, Celestial or Sidereal.

I think it was a reference to a charm in the Fair Folk book, possibly called "Root of the Perfected Lotus", which would allow them to learn Terrestrial Martial Arts.

Correct Page 205. This is a mutation that allows a Fae to learn Martial Arts Charms as if it was a Dragon Blooded.
