As for unlocking features you need ten 'posts' though they only count on certain sections like this. These will contribute to your overall unlike status updates and forum games,etc.

My advice is just type ...

10 after a certain time interval so you meet the requirement and unlock the general features and prove to the site you're not a spam bot as it perceives you to be atm.

Oh no pming is present early on. The other stuff like posting in RPs and forums comes later if I recall correctly. Counter measure to inhibit spam bot from plaguing all parts of the site.
