The journey starts with a single step.

Welcome to Skinless. Thank you for showing interest in this RP. This thread will hold the rules and any side information that is outside of the story, such as relating to the votes or asking polls that affect the meta-story, while not directly affecting the character. This is also the conversational thread, please confine all chit-chat to this thread alone, though you can leave comments on your votes by way of description or clarification as to what you intend, which I not only allow but recommend, as it will allow me to respond in a way that suits the players' intentions.

RULES:

  1. Votes will be judged by "Majority Rules".
  2. Three (3) Votes for one option will be considered an instant majority, regardless of the number active voters. (Number may change to reflect activity levels.)
  3. You may change your vote at any time before the final decision is made for that vote.
  4. To change your vote, edit your previous vote to include some statement saying it is changed, then post your new vote.
  5. Voting options may vary from multiple choice, including dice-roll lottos, descriptive narratives, and/or other options.
  6. Tag the RP moderator @Stickdom in the OOC thread to be added to the active player list.
  7. Only players who are on the active player list will be eligible for entry into lotto- and narrative-style options.
  8. I, the RP moderator, reserve the right to edit, add to, or otherwise alter these rules at any time with notice given to the players.

Welcome! I tagged anyone who had expressed intrigue on the interest check, here is the completed thread. Have fun guiding our wayward wizard thrall and I hope you can direct him towards one of several happy endings, though the alternate endings will be just as, if not more, interesting.

To all players, I added the rules in to the first post of the RP, please read over them to get a brief idea of how this system is going to work. We hopefully have an active and imaginative group, and I'll be relying on you all for input and creativity in some areas to help move the story along and provide some unique aspects from your own points of view.

I ask everyone whom I have tagged to respond to this thread by tagging myself in turn to verify that you are planning on being an active player. I will be keeping an active player list to help keep track of how much momentum this story is still carrying, but if you feel for any reason that you are not capable of participating any longer, please notify me so I can edit the player list and adjust my plans accordingly.

Well, for the record, quests don't work that way in my experience. Part of the appeal of quests is their no-strings-attached nature. They thrive on having a large playerbase, big enough that three people at a time can drop out without explanation and five more can take their place without a problem. Because we're not controlling characters by ourselves, the story can continue without our involvement. I am willing to participate in this quest, but just know that it is very unorthodox to expect players to have the same commitment to a quest as they do to a play-by-post game.

I think you have a very valid point, I agree that that is part of the appeal of the Quest-style RPs, but I also think that you misunderstand my motives. I'm not asking for a commitment to stay in this quest, I'm simply trying to get an idea of how many players are interested enough to vote more than once. For the three players who leave a quest, they lose nothing, but if they make up the majority of the players, the quest dies until, and even if, it gains new players to fill their space. I have seen many quests die simply for lack of interest, and I think it's hardly fair for the creators of them, myself included, to have put the time and effort into writing a full story, including many alternate routes with multiple choices in each, just to have players vote once or twice and abandon it for something new. My Active Player List is not for me to see who commits to my Quest, it's for you, the players, so that I can adapt the story to the number of people who continue to play after other inconsiderate players leave without warning.

Well, my problem with quests is that I tend to abstain from a lot of votes. Sometimes I feel a certain decision is too much for me to consider, and I don't have any input. I've frequently gone from a voter to a casual reader in several quests. I will read and attempt to vote when I can, but I can't guarantee I'll end up giving this the same dedication I would give a play-by-post game.

Well, you are still welcome to participate as much as you feel you want to, I just want to make it clear to everyone that I don't want this to suffer from "Fatal RP Abandonment Syndrome" and leave one or two players scratching their heads as to where everyone went. I'm not asking for total commitment to vote every opportunity, I can understand abstaining from some just because you don't feel like making a choice, I just don't want that to happen to every player simultaneously and we hit a dead end.

Is it fine for me to jump in and start voting on this? If so I'll be sure to be active and check back here regularly, because I have absolutely no social life outside of a comput-I mean,I have an avid intrest in this story!

I am not a bored/lonely top-hat

Yes of course! We're always accepting new players to join us, feel free to jump in any time.

@Stickdom

I think I'll be able to consider myself an active player of this, on second thought. Just a word of advice: Get the beginning updates out quickly. While your active player system guards against boredom-related voter desertion, it's best to only slow down once the quest is well underway. The first ten-twenty updates or so should be pumped out fast so that the audience becomes invested in the story.

Oh, this actually started? I had no idea! *bangs head against wall repeatedly* Guess I'll read what you have up and start voting...
No worries, mate, I probably should have sent out a formal notice saying we had started, but hindsight is 20/20. I intend to pump these out as quickly as players vote on it, so it should keep a good pace if all goes well.

To everyone, thank you for your interest. I think I'm going to change the "3-post majority" rule to a "5-post consideration", which might closer represent what I was going for. What the 5-post consideration means is that you players will vote on options until there are at least 5 votes on the board, so it's rather first-come, first-serve. BUT, that doesn't mean that voting stops at 5 votes. If you feel there is another option you'd rather take or you want to put your own opinion on the currently leading option, please do so, I will never turn away a vote. If after 5 votes there is a tie or some other stalemate, the votes will continue until we have an established majority. I want to encourage as much voting and discussing as possible, feel free to chat about the options and their consequences in the OOC, remember you can always change your vote in the thread if you feel there is a better option. I want to make the system fair and simple, and I also want to encourage players to talk among each other, this is for fun and I want you all to be able to enjoy it however you like.

So far, I have several endings in mind for our character, not all of them happy or even fulfilling, it is possible to kill our dear character off (again) far before his time, so think and discuss it over carefully before you throw down the first vote that seems interesting :)

Okay...I'll admit I didn't think to factor in the "we are undead and probably don't sound very recognizable"...fallowing that logic I don't think petting will do much good, Because we've been dead for a while and it probably wouldn't feel the same.

but I think we should do a write in that basically says we attempt to take the crystal out of the thing's head. Maybe we can get something useful out of this.

_____What I have in mind_____

>Attempt to immobilize the creature and take the black crystal from it

My sincerest apologies. For all my talk about the players being active, I've seriously let this go. Not by my own will, however, I've simply been overly wrapped up in work over the past two-or-so weeks to even give the site a second thought. However, despite the delayed start, I still think we can continue this without any problems, if you all are still willing. I'm certainly game for it, and I've gotten the next vote up already for you guys. :)

Okay, now to start over thinking this.

I think after we check up on our body(which I think could be hiding something that could trip us up at the wrong moment). We should go ahead and bury the dead! (Rhymes!) if not for sentimental reasons I am also a paranoid top-hat and am wary that some sort of zombie

Hodoo-voodo thingy could happen if we don't.

Personally, I'd want to try reviving our family since that was an option earlier, but considering we're not a professional necromancer it would probably end...badly.
