The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment
Someone said something on the forums that makes me sad. Can the moderators please delete their post/ban them?

  • No. This site is anti-censorship. People are free to say what they like, when they like, about whomever or whatever they choose. It is assumed that we are all adults, with the capacity to shrug off or ignore anything that might offend us.
The only exception to this "full tolerance" policy is spam. Threads that clearly serve no other function than to flood the forums with garbage posts may be deleted at the moderators' discretion. Users who continually spam the forums may be added to the banlist.

What do the titles and 'sun' icons below users' avatars signify? How can I change mine?

  • These are the forum rankings, which represent how many posts a user has contributed, and nothing more. They are strictly for fun. If you'd like a higher ranking, work towards it, but please do not flood the forums with useless posts just to get promoted. This tends to annoy the natives.
The ranking breakdown looks like this (progressing in powers of 5):

    0dots.jpg
    Least God             <25 posts
    1dot.jpg
    Elemental                25 posts
    2dots.jpg
    Little God              125 posts
    3dots.jpg
    Greater God           625 posts
    4dots.jpg
    Elemental Dragon  3125 posts

    Celestine               N/A

Where can I read/submit/critique fan submissions?

  • The ECR has its own custom submissions engine, dubbed "Lore5". You can find it from the main menu, or
click here. Most of the credit for Lore5 goes to memesis, though others have contributed code as well.
The system currently accepts Charms, Spells, Artifacts, Hearthstones and Combos, as well as book reviews, writings and artwork. An interface for submitting characters is in the works. In the meantime, if something you'd like to submit doesn't fall into one of these categories, please post it in the submissions forum instead. If you have a question, comment, or suggestion about the software, post it here.

One thing the old EC always needed was a FAQ. Too many times, a new user would start asking questions that have been  answered over and over again in the past.

I'd like to compile a list of common questions and have it posted permanently in the Newbie Help forum. I can add stuff to the post above as questions come up, and repost it there once it's got a a fair amount of information in it.

What will be tolerated?

  • Swearing - You are an adult. Learn to verbally defend yourself.
  • Sex and Slavery - Exalted contains mature content. So does this board.

What won't be tolerated?

  • Stupidity - The Mods may not get you. The Citizens will.
  • Spam - Off-topic, overabundant stupidity will attract the Mods attention, and their wrath.
  • Stupid Errors - We fully support those people from non-English-speaking backgrounds, and while we have an international board, this does not mean that we wish to segregate you. It does, however, mean that you should at least try to speak the language that you are posting in. If it can pass Word's spelling and grammar checker then it's probably fine, and the citizens probably won't make fun. If it can't, then you've earned the right to be laughed at. This goes moreso if the language you are posting in is your native language.

Edited Because of spelling errors and missing words.

As a professional linguist, I can proudly declare that word's grammar checker is absolutely useless to anyone who doesn't already understand basic grammatical principles.  We humbly request that native English speakers learn how to use their fucking language, or we will mock you with great vigour.  Personally, I'll only abuse foreigners when they say something really, really funny.

  • Super Solars - Anyone asking about Super Solars will be the subject of the Moderators wrath. You have been warned.

Are these examples cunningly strewn in the segment about stupid errors and the Word spelling and grammar checker?

Yep. :P

Don't get non-english-speaking backgrounds one. I would have thought that would have been perfectly valid grammatically and it's not spelled wrongly. It's used quite frequently in human services work.

Were you suggesting that as I was typing in english I should have used english rather than the bastard half-language that the net uses?

You spelled it correctly.

Grammatically, there are no issues with the hyphenated usage (as indicated by the placement of the bold tags - were the usage the problem, the entirety of "non-english-speaking" would have been bolded).

'English', however, is a proper noun, and as such, requires capitalization.

Coincidentally, 'wrong' is an adverb, as is 'incorrectly'. 'Wrongly' is the gap-toothed, slack-jawed bastard son of the two. Not incorrect, persay, but clumsy in this usage, as in many others. Perhaps the only usage in which this abomination is not more difficult to swallow than 2-year old scotch is when it comes before the verb (i.e. "to wrongly assume").

Faq (i'll ask it as fequently as nessecary)

Say.. why did the old Ec die? I just went away for say..3 months and suddenly it's gone..

So, did yoshi stop the site willingly or was it a crash or has one of the flamewars killed most of the population?

I'm not native english and will make mistakes and the more angry you become the more mistakes i'll probably make. (After a lot of "scalding" I might end up typing 1337   )

Not being a native English-speaker, you probably have, in my experience, a better chance of getting the spelling and word definition right, but not quite as firm a grasp of the idiomatic expressions and syntax of English. While this can certainly lead to interesting statements at times, it is not a hanging offense by any means.

I much prefer to direct my ire toward the "It's teh internets, who carez if i get it right? u?" bunch. Not only do they commit offenses against their native tongue, they don't care, which makes it far worse.

My best guess is that the contract on the site's hosting ran up, and he didn't renew it. The domain name still exists, but the data has apparently been deleted.

Goddamn my English-speaking-background, that means that I've learnt this stupid language instinctively.

All of RPGCompendium's gone.

I'd say the hosting plan expired for that entire domain expred (that is rpgcompendium.com died), taking sub-domains (exalted.rpgcompendium.com) with it.

Just a guess though.

Just noticed that typo.

Who votes that I don't type the FAQ?
I vote you type, and get the resident professional linguist to edit the draft. It would create something made through teamwork, which would be really good in this non-Yoshicratic EC.

The old EC wasn't exactly Yoshicratic either, that being one of the prime problems.

Either you're talking about me, or there's going to be a duel to the death coming up.

I wasn't being sneaky, I fixed the typo before I saw your comments.  Like fingernails on a blackboard, typographical errors bleed through my heart.

I think I've just invented ECR's first sport. Catching someone's errors before they notice.

Can we make the FAQ sticky for newbies please?
I'm planning to, once it has an official form, in the Newbie forum.

Regards Avatars

You've seen those shiny avatars that everyone is using. And now you want one too. But wait, you don't have a paid web-hosting server to store it on.

What are you to do? Well, if you follow Haku's 4 simple steps, you'll soon be sporting a shiny avatar of your own and feeling more like a proper forum-goer.

1) go to http://www.photobucket.com

2) Get a free account...

3) upload the avatar image/icon you want there and copy the url and paste into your profile's avatar section and you're good to go.

4) Did I mention it had a shrinker function in the editing area for the image?

There you go...   :D
