The last few weeks of summer vacation had been nothing but filled with happy moments for August, and that would be true if we didn't include the latest few days. While August and his parents do have a weird relationship, they do genuinely love him and do know what's best for him, even if it doesn't seem like that at times. August had been conflicted about going back to school his junior year throughout the whole summer. He wanted to stay with his family because he was missing out on a lot, but then at the same time, all the people he cared about were at Silver Oak, and chances were he wouldn't see them again if he didn't come back. The wish to see Bella and Madi again, along with some persuasion from his parents, it was decided that August would be going back to Silver Oak when summer ended, which, sadly, was now.
It was a long drive from California all the way to Oregon, almost 900 miles, and sitting in a car for such a long time seemed even longer for August. Luckily, he spent half of the time sleeping, and the other half playing with a yoyo or just snacking on the things his mom packed for him beforehand, so all in all, the trip was one of the better ones he had through the years.
August was very excited to see Madi and Bella again as he had so much to tell them both about the summer he had, and of course, was excited to hear all about their own summers and how they went.
The nice chauffeur named Mike had helped August take his bags and luggage out of the trunk of the car, and with a few words, Mike was on his way back to California, leaving August alone.
Going through the administration office to find out which hall and room he was this year, August made his way to the White Oak Boys' Dormitory, or more exactly, second floor, room 13 of the mentioned building. Last year he had been on the third floor, so he knew how lucky he was to not have to carry all his stuff all the way to the third floor. Still, carrying the stuff all the way to the second floor wasn't exactly ideal either, making August break a sweat.
Nonetheless, August was still filled with energy from sitting inside a car for the last god knows how long. He looked at the bags and suitcases he had brought with him, and he knew he should probably unpack them, which is exactly what he did for the next hour and a half before climbing up onto the top bunk and just laying down, staring at the ceiling.
He wasn't exactly hiding, even if it did appear like that to his new roommate, who didn't seem to notice him at first, and when he did, he gasped.
It was funny, however, August didn't know if it was appropriate to laugh before the guy's own laughing signaled that it was.
As the guy introduced himself, August jumped from the top bunk, landing securely on the floor with both feet and did so back: "Nice to meet you as well, Will. I'm August, but my friends, who I don't really have a lot of, call me Gus, or even Auggie, but that isn't really a preferred nickname, but of course, if you feel like calling me Auggie I guess I wouldn't have a problem with it, but as I said, it isn't really a preferred nickname as I like Gus or my full name more." August stopped to take a breath in as before continuing to speak: "Anyways, my name is August...and I already said that, didn't I? Fuck." August's hands gestured throughout the whole unintended speech before they finally came to a stop, one of them waiting for a handshake from Will.
