Oh, and I also wanted ask everyone! What's your favorite horror movie/series and game?

Don't @ me but I'm with Cyril on this one. I don't consume much horror-themed media. Still fun to occasionally experience via roleplay though!

ohohohoho that's a hard question. my favorite horror movie is probably halloween, though i also really like carrie and green room (technically a thriller, but the premise is still chilling imo)
favorite horror games: ao oni, the walking dead (telltale), aaand the last of us.

I can't pick out a favorite off the top of my head, but I know that I absolutely adore zombies. Runners, walkers, special infected, all kinds.

And I'm excited to get this going! Holiday has waited long enough to be the coked-out dad nobody needs nor wants.

Oh, aren't we all Wick?

you know what you've got me there

i am not a huge horror fan and i generally prefer it in the short story format. stephen graham jones is my favorite horror writer (highly recommend mapping the interior), and i also like stephen king's early short stories (i think he's bad at novels lmao). i really enjoy a lot of neil gaiman's more horror-esque stuff as well. the hannibal series is one of my faves, and the korean zombie drama kingdom. i did really like the silent hill movie too! and most importantly house of leaves, and whatever the fuck guillermo del toro has going on.

i like horror that's about tension and dread and existential mindfuckery and monsters with teeth and houses gone wrong and fucked up love. not really about gore and slashers and whatever is going on in the purge. that is...boring lmao

I really don't characterize The Purge as horror, save maybe a few moments from the first film, but that's really thriller to me.

have you seen kingdom on netflix? it is my favorite take on zombies and i do want everyone to watch it lmao

Of course I have. Name any kind of zombie media, guarantee you I've absorbed everything from it. I'm running out of new stuff man, I've literally seen it all.

oooo you know what really gets under my skin? those internet horror ARGs, like the sun vanished, local 59, marble hornets, and everyman hybrid. they're so good but creep me out soooo much

also it's not only horror, but i'm going to add jeff vandermeer's southern reach trilogy to this as when it gets into horror it's my favorite kind

bonus points if you noticed the reference to it in sasha's sheet

BYEE I GOT NO NOTIFS 💀💀
IM SO PUMPED THOUGH AHH
And if discord yes, you will then be able to see how big of a horror geek I am. I liveee for scary movies

Honestly the movie for annihilation is p much low scale horror. That movie was so good, and the book too. I wanted to read the rest but I heard it kinda drops off vibe wise compared to annihilation

it's cosmic horror, which isn't quite what we're going for here. (at least i hope not lmao) i personally really love the other 2 books, but they do have a very different vibe--authority is a cosmic horror police procedural and moves much slower than annihilation but the dramatic irony is so delicious. it has a different main character and he's dealing with the fall out of the events of book 1 while having no idea what happened and you're just watching him like, "control u beautiful idiot. what are you doing." and then acceptance is like "okay i'm going to explain everything...except i'm not <3". so i don't blame most other folks for not liking them as much. the biologist gets the sexiest ending possible in acceptance tho.

i read them this spring and then immediately read vandermeer's other weird biopunk post apoc borne trilogy, which is even better imo, but will give you extremely specific brainworms.

Yeah when I read the reviews I wasn’t sure because I personally ATEEEE up annihilation, while listening to the movie soundtrack. I trust Jeff to do police procedural right. Cosmic horror shit SLAPS and is super niche genre of good horror (because immediate thought is like fucking killer clowns from outer space LMAOO).

I def will give the other two the read!! I was really interested but this is the push I needed 🙏

got another one XD

if you do like it i definitely suggest picking up borne as well! the other two in that trilogy, the strange bird and dead astronauts, and even better but SO incredibly weird.

also, while we're on the subject:

Also so I can answer the personal horror question, when it comes to video games I am basic and love Resident Evil, although when I was younger I was absolutely obsessed with indie rpg horrors. They’re still my fave when done right. Manlybadasshero on YouTube covers a lot of them and THEYRE SO FUN??

when it comes to movies I’m equally picky and also free willing: I like slashers but only 70s-2000s for the camp, but kinda like critta I love psychological and uneasy type or dramatic horrors. Off the top of my head: The Descent, Stephen King’s 1922, Marianne (a really good French series on netflix).

For the camp slashers I of course eat up Scream franchise, Elm Street (proclaimed big fan, I wrote a term paper about shamanic dream rituals and elm street movies), Cabin Fever (slasher? Body horror?), Thirteen Ghosts, and etc etc

I could really go on and it gets gross because I won’t shut up about it. I’m a psych major and horror is definitely something I’ve legitimately wondered if I could get a profession in with my degree LMAOO
