Joey was raised by two loving and successful parents in a very nice upper class neighborhood, needless to say he's had a pretty good childhood. His father is a highly respected neurosurgeon, and his mother is his high school sweetheart, who is a now retired public defender. Since his dad worked most of the time, he's become a total mama's boy. With her strong moral compass and ability to see through bullshit like glass, she has raised Joey to be a very compassionate, freethinking young man that strives to be successful and help others.
Though his dad wasn't around much, him and Joey still has a good relationship, because the man is trying to have a bond with his kid and it shows. They sort of have this mutual respect for each other, knowing that they're at the very least still family. It wasn't until recently that Joey's quiet, little world cracked open. He found out his mother had been having multiple affairs over the years, she said she didn't love his father anymore, that she was only doing it for the money, but she made him promise to keep everything a secret. It's been eating him alive, the moral dilemma behind all of this, but he's kept his mouth shut so far.
