That one thing from the other day
gods return.png
1000 years ago

A golden age had occurred in our world, a time when gods and mortals lived side by side and flourished. no one went without, the gods provided for the mortals all they needed and the mortals provided the gods with purpose. this went on as far back as any could remember and only the goddess Placendia, the mother of all that is divine, knew what the world was like before. Unfortunately even gold tarnishes, and this golden age was no exception. The peace mortals and deities shared was torn asunder by the mysterious death of Placendia. None among the numerous mortals and mighty gods could find the culprit but they would not need to search long. Her firstborn son Noire the god of darkness took credit for the killing in the middle of the council chamber of the other gods, in the same breath he uttered a spell that destroyed the council and consumed their essence becoming the most powerful god to ever exist...for a time at least.

His twin brother Lumos the god of light did not attend the council as he was still grieving at his mothers alter. the very moment his brother slew the council of gods his mothers power along with much more was gifted to him from beyond the veil of life. suddenly there were now two gods with near limitless power and they shared only one thing...their unrestrained hatred for one another. Calamities rained upon the world as they clashed in a battle that would last seven days. cities were toppled by earthquakes, coastal towns erased by tsunami's, the skies blanketed in ash by volcanoes, and floods tore through the plains and farmlands as hurricanes ran rampant. the battle would finally end when they both stuck one another with all of their divine might. The collision made a crater over 500 miles in diameter and nothing within that crater remained intact...including the two gods who collided. Lumos and Noire shattered into countless shards their minds and essences fragmented with their bodies and their shards were scattered into the afterlife as they perished.

The brothers had grown strong enough however that even the eternal tides of the soul shuffling were not enough to disperse their power. As such their divine power began to be mixed in with the pool of souls and in the children of those who survived the gods clashing these shards would manifest. children were born with either a Light shard or a Dark shard. while the two differed very little in the powers that they granted the perception of them was that of good and evil. sadly this meant that children born with dark shards would often be slain and those with light shard kidnapped and put into a tower where a group known as the Devout would attempt to merge the shards of Lumos and rebuild their god. this group known as the Devout would grow in power and eventually rise to being the largest government power in the world.

Eventually a rebellion was bound to happen, no peoples will let their children be slain for long. the population rose up against the Devout. They called this rebellion the Rise and many of them were in possession of dark shards, it seemed for all the efforts of the devout they could not destroy the shards and killing the host of the shard only sent it back into the pool of souls to be eventually revived. it looked to be a losing battle even still as the Rise didnt have even half the resources, weapons, or wealth of the devout. however a desperate raid on their tower of light freed those who possessed light shards the majority of whom joined the Rise and together they turned the tide of the battle. the Devout were pushed out of the continent and a new nation called Lysandria was formed its name meaning "free from lies".

Lysandria built itself up to a high degree in the following years, they encouraged those in possession of dark shards and light shards to use their powers to better not only themselves but also the nation as a whole. however spies and saboteurs from the Devout continued to make their development hard and costly in both coin and blood. with little other options Lysandria closed its borders and would build up a mighty military of shard hosts who would grow in power. They carefully screened all who came to their nation and slowly but surely shard hosts became the ruling power creating new inequalities that would continue to spread through out the nation. they built a massive tower and gathered many of their forces there to reeducate them and guide them to not only hate normal humans but to seek out and destroy the devout to prevent them from ever again rising against them... however before the training was completed the tower was destroyed and all the shard hosts there perished. With their leadership destroyed Lysandria broke into several city states, still calling themselves Lysandrians, but now adding a label for whatever city they were from. Once again peace followed a tide of blood and hatred.

Present day

The city states of Lysandria are in dire straits, while individually the cities have grown the tension between them has grown as well, and while the denizens of Lysandria were busy focusing on their own rivalries the Devout have spread throughout the rest of the world uniting broken survivors under their banner of righteous indignation. Now they arrive at the borders of Lysandria in their first move taking down the coastal city of Daizen and slaying more than half the population. refugees flee from the broken city into the neighboring ones spreading the word of the coming doom. their numbers are without end, their weapons are more advanced, and they bring with them ruinous powers from beyond the veil, those age old enemies of the divine...the devils.

however more frightful is how they seem to operate, they no longer seek to capture the light shard holders rather they kill them outright, no longer do they hide behind niceties and instead they cut down all who live under the banner of the Lysandrians but perhaps most terrifying of all, the devils seem not to lead them but rather are bound to serve them. what manner of power gives them such boldness and control? that of course is one of the many mysteries that we face now. who are you in all this madness? a soldier of the devout commanding troops and devils alike? a Devil bound to the devout troops seeking to find your freedom? a shard bearer of light or dark whose power is sought out by all? A normal person trying their damnedest to survive this madness with your loved ones? regardless of what role you may play the world will face the results of the shattered gods together for better or worse, either evil will be crushed or all will drown in a tide of blood...in the end the choice is yours.

powers and special dynamics.

in this world power comes in a variety of kinds. each faction brings their own powers and special dynamics to the table. here are a list of the sources of power in this world.

Shards- the main power in this world are the shards of the shattered twin gods. whether a light or dark shard is sorta irrelevant as each shard is equal in power and neither influences one to be good or evil, the only difference is aesthetic. dark shard powers tend to look evil, while light shard powers tend to appear holy, that said neither is true. plenty of evil people have used light shards, and plenty of good people have used dark shards. shards each have a unique ability but the individual shards abilities are the same. for example at least 4 people in history have had the holy flame light shard, just never at the same time one dies, another is born and it rarely occurs back to back, the longest gap recorded with just the holy flame shard was 366 years between its appearance. a host is born with their shard and it grows with them and their emotional state. while not everyone can master the shards those that do learn of the fractal soul ability which allows them to shatter their own soul and use the energy that leaks out of it to mix with the shard and gain a massive temporary boost in power. this fractal soul ability is dangerous as the shard must be used to repair the damage which grows progressively worse the longer it is used. if one is not careful they run the risk of not only dying from the strain, but also of destroying their own soul entirely not even allowing them an afterlife.

Devils- in possession of otherworldly magics devils are the old enemies of the gods and are virtually impossible to kill without divine or demonic power. worse this power is bolstered by their immensely long lifespans, most of them predating the twin gods conflict. sadly their own power is what binds them to their current masters and while they wish nothing more than to eliminate their masters to get their freedom the contract holder has the ability to cause them immense pain and even kill them if they see fit. though death means little to a devil as they will simply reform within the inferno. devils each have their own unique abilities and each of those grow stronger the more souls they consume making them very effective weapons against the shard hosts. incidentally devils are also quite effective against one another and a normal human is going to be as hard pressed to defeat one as a rabbit would be in defeating a wolf.

Technology- while all peoples have technology, Lysandria is restricted to using typical swords and armors, bows and arrows, leathers and other iron age technologies, meanwhile the Devout have limited access to black powder weapons such as pistols, blunderbuss, and rifles, not to mention cannons. even rudimentary oil grenades are in use by the more advanced Devout. this is a huge problem when paired with their numbers allowing them to wipe out entire ranks of soldiers from lysandria before they even make into melee range. as if that were not bad enough they also possess more advanced metals and metal working techniques meaning their swords are less likely to break and their armor is better. unlike other factors however this one can be turned against its user as nothing is stopping a disgruntled farmed from picking up a rifle and killing an officer.

Numbers- as with any conflict numbers play a huge role and while alot of animes and rps have people soloing armies this one will not be such a story. 20 men with guns and swords are a threat to anyone, if the character you have in mind would just wave them away then odds are they are too powerful for the story. battles are intimate and killing takes a toll on people so there will be no characters just bodying an entire detachment alone. you have trained your whole life for this? that nice the other person likely has to and no one is gonna stand there and not react when the guy in front of him explodes into chunky soup. So yeah try avoid getting surrounded, dont rush a enemy force that outnumbers you 100 to one, and if you must do so find a way to limit how many can get to you at once, a hallway can become a deadly killing ground for someone with potent skills or abilities.

Skills/Tactics- this world will also acknowledge skilled people and those who have tactical genius to bring to the table. a sniper can be effective if placed properly, a good sneaky dude can assassinate a stronger foe if they dont see it coming. a 40 year old swordsman who spent 20 years in war is likely gonna trash the angry anime guy with a sword rushing him with resolve and fury if that anime guy hasn't taken the time to train himself. while this is not a rule set in stone it is still one to consider. when paired with numbers, and technology, tactics can actually overcome more powerful foes like shard hosts and devils.

So, is shadow manipulation not allowed? My guess, it would let you teleport and create minions. And possibly communicate to someone who's standing in shade.

thats fine as it has its limitations. the space manipulation is a ban to prevent to wide range abilities and of course the teleportation will need a distance limit otherwise travel time becomes moot and thats an important part of the war tactics

By the way the image up top shows Noire killing the other gods. not all gods were pretty like he and his mother and brother were.

it was a dark souls meme about the vagueness of the boss weapon merchants directions.

and i havent made a cs thread yet but your welcome to suggest a cs skeleton to me via pm if you want.

okay without further ado here is the cs page.

ill have the main story up either late tonight or tomorrow. lore page will wait until i have enough candidates with fleshed out histories to make a lore...in other words you will have the opportunity to influence the lore with your own characters. that said no one is allowed to have anything to do with the destruction of Lysandria's shard tower 500 years ago. rumors speak of a death god who smote them out of this world...nevermind the fact that gods just dont exist anymore that's what make it a rumor and not a fact.

info update

devils and gods interacted a good bit before the gods were wiped out but their encounters were always rather one sided. Gods clobbered Devils casually until just before the gods fell when devils seemed to give up, however their current return has them hating shard hosts as they are the remnants of the gods power and now that their power levels are realatively even the clashes of divine and devilish entities is widespread and common. within the nations of the Devout there are no more shard host either being born or living all are slain mercilessly and with the utmost contempt by the devils. while their hatred is horrible to behold they technically were victims of genocide be it justified or not. therefor attempts to change a devils mind on thatr manner is usually met with violence...then again existing in front of a devil is usually met with violence.

This invasion force does have a leader though they are unknown to all in Lysandria members of the devout faction know him as General Drakken brother of the great king. while not a possesser of either a shard or of a devil he does wear the reforged armor of Noire and the shining crimson sword forged of the fragments of the fallen gods weapons is one of the most deadly objects in the planet. refugees say that this man cleaved the cities port facing wall wide open with a single swing heralding the sudden destruction of his invasion. he now sits in the ruined palace of daizan sitting upon the throne waiting for his men to finish reinforcing the city so that he may continue his invasion.

magical creatures do exist in this world though only orcs, humans, elves, dwarves, and devils are playable. this does not mean that dragons and griffons or even giant lizards cannot be mounts companions or familiars. Magic itself does not exist however instead magic and science are one and the same, black powder production counts as alchemy, anatomical and medical knowledge counts as restorative magic. the real physics breaking "magic" as most people think of it comes from either the shards or the devils, the common thread being that both are technically from other dimensions

the afterlife is not a vague concept here it is actually a proven and inevitable concept thanks to the existence of the shards that allow people to take others beyond the veil of life. when someone dies their soul returns to a swirling whirlpool of souls in another dimension where time is irrelevant until eventually they are cast back into the material world indicating the birth of a new mortal being. the irrelevance to time actually creates a weird effect where sometimes someones past life actually took place in the future. heaven and hell kinda exist but under weird circumstances, if a devil eats your soul your sent to the inferno where they will feed off of your soul energy for as long as it takes for your soul to cease existing or until someone kills the demon and they themselves are sent to the inferno. souls eaten by a now dead demon will be returned to "The Swirl" as the afterlife is often referred to as. heaven is a realm only accessible through divine influence meaning that the death of the gods makes it a lot less likely for one to be able to get to heaven. though the time irrelevance of the swirl allows souls to be born into era's where the gods have yet to die and thus they can earn their way into heaven. thanks to this the universe our story takes place in is actually full of infinite variable timelines hence why any form of time manipulation is banned.
