Realistic or Modern Shattered GLASS [A Modern Superhuman Story] (Always Open)

Shattered GLASS - Roleplay Thread

Out-of-Character I Character Sign-up
Hale - A bustling metropolis home to 1.2 million citizens. Sometimes known as the City of Lightning, at glance it appears to be just an average urban city, and a decade ago it absolutely was. But then... everything changed.

Now, it's home to a massive population of superhumans - individuals who have a unique ability that would have seemed impossible in the past. But now, it's merely commonplace, these people comprising 1.42% of the entire city's population. No-one really knows how or why these abilities have appeared, but they have certainly shaped Hale in a way no-one could have predicted.

_______________________________________________________________________________________

GLASS (Generally Lax Active Success System) are a private "military" that has been hastily set up as a response to a massive increase in disorder and superhuman crime. Having only existed for a month, they are pretty under-equipped and don't have a lot of experience yet, but they're doing the best they can with what they have. But even within their own ranks, there's plenty of conflict - some of them are entirely anti-superhuman, seeing them as a threat to society, others see them as citizens that merely need to be controlled and kept tabs on.

Either way, they've got their work cut out for them. Multiple superhuman groups have cropped up, including the ARK (Allied Resource Keepers), a massive organisation dealing with illegal marketing and trading, something that has been unstoppable for the local authorities due to their use of high-end abilities. If that wasn't enough, they'll have to deal with independent 'terrorist' groups - people who have nothing better to do than hurt the innocent inhabitants of the city.

They need to take control of this city... but it won't be easy.

Rules:

1. You must label each post with a location. I'm going to be fairly strict on this - it'll help avoid confusion in the future, hopefully.

2. Be respectful to other RPers. Just because you want to do something with someone's character, doesn't mean they'll want to as well. Just... be nice, aight?

3. Be patient. Not everyone posts with the same frequency, or are even available at the same time, so give people time to reply before pushing things along. That said... if someone is taking forever, and isn't showing any sign of posting, feel free to 'unstick' yourself. No need for the RP to die if a few people leave.

GLASS Agents - GLASS Warehouse 17

Sammie watched as the C-ranks under her care unloaded the crates from the truck. Like always, none of them knew exactly what was in them, other than that it wasn't highly explosive or flammable - anything more than that was considered to be on a need-to-know basis. And, well, they didn't need to know, apparently.

Still, whatever it was justified the loaded semi-automatic rifle in her hands. It make her nervous, as well as some of the others, but orders were orders.

Her current team wasn't exactly what she'd had in mind when she'd been assigned this task, either. Leigh and Nat were both pretty new, and weren't exactly the most physically capable - it took both of them to move a single box. Dave, on the other hand, was easily moving two boxes at a time, something that was impressive regardless of his ability. It was a shame his confidence was so low, though. He could useful in a combat situation, if he'd only put his mind to it.

Renae Hopson "Telegram" - ARK Hideaway, Location Unknown

Renae, having finished her morning meal, waltzed over to the room-sized machine that had been her home for the past several months. Capable of boosting her area-of-effective by two magnitudes, it was not a device that was to be taken lightly. She strapped herself in, closing her eyes as the network of minds that comprised ARK flooded into hers.

The 'Head', of course, was not present in said network, preferring to stay 'offline' in case the operation was ever compromised. Still, every other important member of the organisation was linked into it, and capable of sending messages to and from each as she wished - as soon as she linked up, she has host to several mental conversations from the high-ups.

One particular informant stood out, though, one of their more reliable sources. They were sending her co-ordinates of a GLASS Warehouse, apparently currently unloading a new shipment. Standard stuff... or so it would seem. They were pretty vague on what was being unloaded, but suggested it was some kind of military-grade equipment - the kind of stuff they didn't normally have access to.

She smiled, even though there was no-one around to see it. That kind of equipment would sell for a fortune, expanding their inventory, and by extension, power, in such a way that could only be profitable in the long run. And all they had to do was go through a few measly GLASS agents.

"Attention: All ARK members in Sector J - there's some pretty valuable stuff going around, and I'm sure it'd beneficial if we... acquired some. Standard set-up: The more you take, the larger the cut. Deposit all equipment to the usual vendors. Sending co-ordinates now."

The mental message relayed perfectly, she sent out the co-ordinates of GLASS Warehouse 17, the image of it burning into her mind temporarily.

[GLASS characters can either be already part of the operation, or can wait and respond to the distress call that'll inevitably crop up. ARK characters... you have full permission to attack them NPCs ]

GLASS Warehouse 17
Erin Judai, more commonly known as "Ecto" due to his ghost-like ability, was one of the C-class agents helping to unload crates. It wasn't as difficult for him as combining telekinesis with his regular strength made the crates seem much lighter and easier to set down gently. He had no idea what was in the crates, but he didn't really care. He would have been bored if he wasn't doing this.

"That's it," grumbled the nineteen-year-old recruit as he hauled a box off the truck and began to walk it towards the box. "Let's just keep hauling boxes, they said. It'll be fun, they said." Henson scoffed as he set the box next to the others. Two other recruits, Zimmerman and Smith were getting another box down. "3, 2, 1, up!" Smith and Zimmerman lifted up another crate and began walking it towards the stack. Henson laughed as they did one box at a time. "Hurry up, that shit ain't heavy."

"Shut up, Ral." Sarah glared daggers at the guy as she began to set them away. The three of them had no powers; explanation for the C-rank. They kept their weapons on their backs, but Sarah kept her pistol on the ready in case of emergencies.

"Hey, hey, Elias, don't open that!" The eighteen-year-old recruit glanced over to Elias and frowned. "Aren't you supposed to be helping with the boxes, anyways? If not I'll call a containment breach on you."

Christine Winters
Christine slammed in a magazine into her pistol labeled "Leftie." She was in the middle of doing the same for the pistol labeled "Offhand" when a mental message rang through her head. Normally, this would be a shocking experience but Christine was used to communicating through telepathy, despite not being a telepath herself.

"Ah Renae, what would we do without you? I won't answer that for you." Christine returned the message with a powerful thought of her own. Then she did her best to raise her telekinetic barrier right around her body. It zipped up like an invisible jacket around her torso and the rest of her body. She strapped in the weapons and walked right out the door like a happy camper. "Alright, let's fuck up some shit." Christine walked into an alley and began to gather telekinetic energy around her body. She could feel the power threatening to blast her off of her feet, but Christine held her ground and slowly turned to the coordinates. The jump was going to be tough, but all that had to be done was nobody would interrupt her between now and later.

Ecto had gotten used to the weight of the crates by now, so he was able to telekinetically move a couple at a time without having to walk between the truck and the stack.

He looked over to the others and could only feel amused at their bickering. "Elias, that's not a smart choice.."

Before being caught, Elias gets a glimpse of the contents of that particular crate - at the top, there is a set of body armour, with some kind of metal backpack strapped permanently to it. It isn't clear at this point what it's for, though - it doesn't look any thicker than the standard issue GLASS armour.

Squit No. 92701782791 "Brian" - Squit Squad, GLASS Warehouse

Well, looked like they'd messed up. Several hundred squits, scavenging in what they'd believed to be a warehouse full of food... only to found nothing of the sort. When they'd arrived, it'd been empty. But now, before they'd been able to leave, it'd become full of humans running around, moving massive boxes full of stuff that wasn't very edible. A bunch of them had already been unknowingly (or perhaps uncaring) squashed underfoot, further staining the already-stained ground.

The survivors had taken refuge underneath one of the already-moved boxes, cowering as people stomped past, causing the ground to shake violently. He had no idea how they were going to get out of this - or if they even could.

Sammie Ray - GLASS Warehouse 17

Sammie paid very little attention to the bickering of the others, still apprehensive about the whole operation. She didn't like not knowing things, not at all - it made her feel like there was something to hide. Orders were orders, though. She had a job to do, and she intended to get it done - no matter the cost. She checked her gun, and continued patrolling the area.

Ella 'Cinder' Ashton
Location: Ella's Penthouse -> Warehouse 17

"Oh my god, today is so boring." Ella grunted, lying on her king-sized bed with loud music roaring from a speaker. She was bored out of her right now. Sure, she could play video games, surf the net, read, watch a movie, go skydiving, go drag racing, adopt a bengal tiger as a pet and name it 'Fluffles", buy a building them demolish it with dynamites, or do some other shit like that, she's rich enough to do it anyway, but she wanted to do smash things and chaos mayhem. It just feels so good breaking bones, spilling blood, taking stuff that doesn't belong to her.

Just as she was about to just go rob a bank and go on a killing spree, Ella heard Renae send a message in her mind. It felt weird really, hearing a voice in her head, but the message she receive was just too good to pass up. She had to wonder though, does that girl look through her brain when she sends a message to her? Oh man, wonder what messed up stuff she saw in her noggin. Anyway, Ella took a quick shower and wore her 'battle clothes' which just comprises of a shirt, jeans, boots, and gloves that were all black and gray. She also has her signature hoodie and gasmask on, a sadistic grin on her face as she opened the window to the balcony.

Her penthouse was 40 floors above the ground and the wind was blowing hard. Without any hesitation, Ella, no, Cinder leaped off the balcony. "Woooo Hooooo!!" Cinder screamed at the top of her lungs, adrenaline pumping through her veins. Halfway towards the ground, Cinder turned into a compact cloud of smoke and ash, drifting off towards the warehouse in a large cloud of smoke.

Sammie Ray - GLASS Warehouse 17

Sammie turned around to look at the Elias, stopping her patrol for a moment.

"Nowhere, for now... our orders are just to move the stuff off the truck into the warehouse." She gestured at the building they were in. "...and then wait for further instructions. More than likely, we'll guard it for an hour or two, and then some couriers will come round and start taking everything where it needs to go."

It was a guess, but an educated one. Sammie had been on a few of these operations before, and they'd all gone something like that. There was no reason to assume this one would be any different. She adjusted her rifle and continued her walk up and down the building.

Connor Morton "Booster" - GLASS Warehouse 17

Like all other ARK members in the area, Connor had gotten the psychic message. Ugh. The sensation of someone speaking in his head was something he hadn't gotten used to yet, causing him to naturally turn around at first to see who was speaking, before remembering what was going on. Thankfully, no-one else was nearby on this street to his mistake.

Regardless, the message intrigued him - he didn't care that much about the 'profit' that this organisation valued so much, but the opportunity to move up the social ladder wasn't something he could ever pass up. Since being approached, he'd struggled to get any real traction or recognition in ARK, mainly because his powers were so... dependant. Working alone wasn't something he was fundamentally very good at.

And of course, his usual tactics of 'empower the weak and rob them blind' weren't really going to work if he wanted a permanent position of power.

He was already pretty close to the target zone actually - it was just around the corner. Acting as normally as possible, he sauntered down the road, passing the warehouse to his left. He only caught a brief glimpse, but he spotted several GLASS agents moving in and out of the building. At least... five? He couldn't really tell.

Walking past so as not attract attention, he circled back around on himself, ending up on the other side of the building. He looked though one of the windows, trying to get a better idea of what he was up against. Seven...Eight... Shit!

He ducked down, suspecting that one of the agents had spotted him - a woman pacing up and down with a gun in her hands. Thankfully, the moments past, and the expected search party didn't come. Looked like he'd gotten away with it. What he had figured out, though, was that he was horribly out-numbered. All he could do now was wait for back-up.

Mattias(Harrow), Mathael(Death), and Iso(Beats)
Vindictive Overseer Tactical and General Store (Overlooking the Warehouse)
Iso: Heading to the Warehouse.
Down the street from the warehouse and up a hill, Mathael gazed over the warehouse with particular wonder. His hair glazed over his face as he let his feet swing from the window of the upper levels of the complex the twins call the "
Vindictive Overseer Tactical and General Store". On the upper levels were where the twins stayed, mostly because it was easy and affordable. It was attached to the store below which took three blocks by itself. In the back was the waste system where the Stormwind twins reclaim them for their projects. They were let out of their taxes from the amount that they processed, especially after "Global Warming" became a thing. Azure curtains flapped out over the window, Mathael giggled as they flapped by. In his hands laid his sigil, a skull with various extrusions of horns, spikes, and other deadly objects. Mathael let a orb of energy form in his hand, fashioning a net of energy. He whipped up the new net launcher he made about an hour ago, letting the energy net pack into the business end of the launcher.

"What you doing Mathael? I don't think you'll net any energy with that." Mattias sneaked up on Mathael, letting the net fly towards the warehouse. It was large enough to possibly net the entirety of the operatives at the warehouse. But it wouldn't last to long as it would disperse quickly from its creator.

"MATTIAS! Don't sneak up on me like that. Look what you made me do." Mathael grumbled, waving his hands in annoyance. A ginger man approached them both, Mattias smiled and handed him a new "toy". The man nodded and exited the building. Mattias returned to his brother. "What was that brother? Was that the new entropy pistol we designed?"
Harrow smiled, "Yeah, Iso spoke some time earlier that he wanted to test drive it for us. He looked like he got a good job for our profits.... While I don't enjoy such things, there is much I can do. I mean, he has some sort of familiarity to our problem. We've had more of those figures pop up again outside the store. The whole place is littered in defensive measures, so I don't worry about it. I mean we can only harrow our search of what they might be. I like that pistol, I made the body out of titanium with a heat resistant coating on the inside of the barrel. Very accurate as well, but it fires a little slower than I like. But like Iso gets up and personal with anything."

"Yeah! Though how many is he taking to this new job?" Mathael paused, "Oh its four! Right, so one bum, one of the full armor sets in the back, and two others I have no idea. Though brother, have we thought to make him a minion? Like one that's more supportive of him?"

"That there is a brilliant idea. So while he handles himself with this new "job", we can fashion him a new thing to try! He'll deathfinitely love it!" Both nodded as Mathael jumped from the window down to their workshop. The faint timpani sound of their powers made the whole complex feel alive. The few clerks that stood ready to cashier laid back. Somewhat slow of a day, but some had the feeling it wouldn't stay that way.
---
Iso's coat danced across him as his four disguised minions entered the warehouse. Iso perched across the street in a dark portion of the street, having a good vantage point to use his entropy pistol to pick off targets. The four minions approached the GLASS Operatives, posing as some themselves.

"Hello, we were sent from command to assist you in your unpacking. Where would you like us?" Iso used his minion's sight to peer into each crate he could. The unlocked crate elated him. He noticed what appeared to be armor. His hand rose up, the iridescent energies of his will danced across his hand as he prepared to animate the armor. He searched the sight of his minions for makeshift weapons to use on the operatives.

Sammie Ray - GLASS Warehouse 17

Sammie had barely even finished another lap of the building before four figures appeared at the main entrance, near the truck they were unloading from. She briskly walked over to them, gripping her rifle slightly tighter than before.

Her concern mostly dissipated when she got closer to them, though - they were all wearing standard-issue GLASS armour, and uniforms, something that was intended to limit confusion in combat situations. Still... why exactly were they here? She glanced down at her communicator. No new messages.

Frustratingly, this didn't make it any less likely that these were the real deal. Communication in GLASS had been an issue since Day 1, it being fairly common for different departments to work the same operation without telling each other, or for the high-ups to ignore protocols and not alert V-ranks like her what was going on. But even if they didn't, that didn't mean she shouldn't - law and order was the way she worked.

"Hold up, let me see some ID, please," she said, motioning for them to stay where they were, not particularly suspicious just yet.

Iso's Minion's Glass Warehouse 17
Iso materialized a fake ID for the first Minion, soon after making some for the others. He was sure that it could pass as valid, but he had no way to make it valid to actual ID readers. At least without having a real code to use on them. The first minion handed his ID to her, while the others stayed in place calmly. Iso, however, raised his pistol, aiming for the person farthest from the back. None of them had weapons, but he found that a good bite somewhere important was nice enough. He adjusted himself onto a balcony, re-aiming at the farthest Operative. He waited a couple moments, letting the Operatives lower their weapons and feel comfortable. Then his red hair stood up as his hand opened, letting the armor inside of the crate animate. Once their attention turned to the armor rising within them, picking up any weapons possibly in the crate, Iso fired a shot at the farthest operative. Waited another moment, letting their distress collect them before releasing his minions to do their work, a collection of biting important things such as the neck. He prepared a second shot. If it was needed, he would shoot again. If not, he will watch.

Ecto noticed something strange about one of the crates, like something was moving inside of it. Before he could realize what was happening, he heard a gunshot and detected the kinetic energy of a bullet whizzing by, most likely not aimed at him specifically but perhaps somebody else.

Instinctively, he crouched down behind the lowered crate he was in the process of moving as a temporary source of cover. He drew out his two Xdm 40cal handguns and tried to get his thoughts together. This would be his first major conflict while working for GLASS.

Ella 'Cinder' Ashton

Location:
Warehouse 17

Cinder loves to fly overhead in the form of a cloud of smoke and ash. She feels far superior to those ant-sized puny beings on the ground like how she feels when toying with the bunch of squits she keeps around in her penthouse. She loves the feeling of playing god with those things, having the power of life ad death over those things. Oh if only she could do that with regular people it would be so much more better.

After flying for a while, Cinder finally spotted the warehouse. There were a few people guarding it outside and there will definitely be more inside. "Oh man, this will definitely be awesome." She said as she hovered over the warehouse. The cloud started to compress, getting denser and denser as it formed a cone. The cone started spinning as she plummeted at high speed towards the warehouse.

Cinder crashed though the roof, shredding through wood and steel. As Cinder crashed through the roof, smoke and ash exploded from her, covering the inside of the warehouse in ash and smoke that makes it hard to see. "Let the fun begin!" Cinder exclaimed, her voice distorted behind the mask. A blade of compressed burning ash formed around her hand as she plunged it through the chest of the nearest guard, leaving nothing but a smoldering hole as she pulled the blade out. Cinder lunged for the nearest guard, laughing from the thrill she felt.

"Bullets?! Who'd be attacking this place? Oh, duh."
"The shipment, idiot!" Fitz shouted as things began to go south. That was when someone fell in through the rooftop and the entire area began to fill with smoke and ash.

"I think-UCK!" Sarah felt a blade go straight through her body, and having it pulled out left nothing but a smoldering hole. She didn't see what hit her; she just fell to the ground, dead. Fitz and Ral pointed their weapons at the source of Sarah's death and pointed their weapons at what seemed to kill her. "Shi-" Fitz called out as he saw the image of a small girl lunging at him with a blade made of ash. However, Fitz was quick enough to react and duck backwards, pull out a combat knife, and parry the blade of ash. "Holy hell, this is a fight!" He spun around and tried to slice at her arm with the combat knife.

Meanwhile, Ral was running around like a headless chicken.
"We're all going to die. Are you serious? I can't fucking believe-"

Without a warning, another projectile tore through the roof, making a similar sized hole to the one Cinder made. Christine slammed straight into Ral, tackling him to the ground and absolutely splattering his lower body into multiple chunky portions. "Aw hell! You beat me here." Christine chuckled as she raised her barrier, trying to find someone to strangle or blast to pieces.

Sammie Ray - GLASS Warehouse 17

Sammie looked over the ID that the closest of the new arrivals had just handed her. It looked legitimate enough - she didn't have an ID reader on her (GLASS wasn't exactly doing great on resources right now), but it she was satisfied they were the real deal. She could check them all, but it wouldn't make much difference. It wasn't like she could remember the name of every C-rank in this organisation.

"Alright, looks good," she said, handing back the ID. "I want two of you over by the truck and---"

It was at this point that one of the crates started moving, shaking violently back and forth. It then stopped for a moment, before the top of it burst upon, unleashing a wave of... body armour? Armour that seemed be moving by themselves, one of them even 'picking up' a crowbar that'd been lying next it to it. What the hell?

Leigh and Nat both dropped the crate they'd been moving, apparently concerned that it might suffer the same fate. They weren't actually doing anything yet, but Leigh wasn't taking any chances. She started backing away quickly, heading towards the exit. She hadn't even gotten past the first row of boxes, when a gunshot rang out, and she dropped to the floor, unmoving. Perhaps in shock, Nat disappeared from sight, his whole body vanishing in a split-second.

Sammie's skin instinctively solidified, becoming coated in a dull, metal layer. It wouldn't deflect a bullet... but it could stop it from killing her. She looked around to try and find the source of the shot, but it turned out she had bigger problems to deal with. The previously docile armour had began to attack the remaining C-ranks, presumably with intent to kill. Dave was able to hold off several at once, keeping them away from his neck and physically smashing them into the floor, but the others were unlikely to fare as well. Sammie took cover behind one of the already open crates, and cocked her rifle, getting ready to fire... even if she wasn't sure it'd do anything.

And then things got much, much worse.

Two figures crashed in through the ceiling, easily dispatching two more C-ranks. One of them she recognized immediately - Cinder wasn't just well-known in ARK, she was pretty high-up on GLASS's 'Most Wanted' list too. If she was here... they didn't stand a chance.

She crawled over to the entrance of the building, doing her best to stay out of sight, even with an awkwardly heavy rifle in her hands. The team she had now was in no way equipped to deal with any of this, something that had been made clear pretty fast. She arrived by the door just in time to witness to see Ecto's overly brash entrance - what was he doing? Did he want to die? The door now open, she could also see Elias mulling around outside. It was unclear whether or not he was even aware what was going on... but he needed to get out of here.

"Go, get outta here!", she shouted to both Ecto and Elias. "You've gotta go get back-up! GLASS HQ! GO!" She no longer cared for her own safety, only caring to get those currently under her command out of harm's way. She might not make it out herself... but she wanted to do the right thing.

Iso's Minion's Glass Warehouse 17
3(+3): Biological Ghouls
2: Animated Armor

It had became apparent that more members of Ark joined the battle. Iso rubbed his chin as he braced another hot round from the entropy pistol. A collection of mostly thermal energy, it was good for melting locks after some shots. Iso removed the illusions of his minions, letting their ghoul appearance intimidate the GLASS operatives. As he noticed more GLASS operatives fall in battle, his hand glowed brighter, letting streams of his will animate the fallen Glass warriors. They picked forth their rifles, shooting at the others. The sets of animated armor quickly entered a vehicle and wired it to start. Leaving it running as they packed everything in. The other six harassed the remaining GLASS operatives, marking them as allies to the other Ark members. The three melee ghouls charged forth into the smoke. Their undead screams hallowed the warehouse, their bodies dripped of blood and sludge. The ranged Ghouls focused on suppressing the GLASS operatives, keeping them at bay while the others charged. As each operative fell in battle, Iso animated more. His minions were easily micromanaged, the ghouls dodged as most people could. A smile drew across his face, looks like this was easy. He stepped down from his perch and held his hand out to "Booster".

"Care to lend me a hand?" Iso smiled. The animated armor opened the crates, letting armor or anything else be animated if applicable. Iso loved this opportunity, he could grow his army and have good trade-ins with the Stormwind twins for good gear. For him, he was definitely playing his role as Contractor.
