Fandom Shadowhunters

Codebreaker

Do the monster mash...
Welcome, Shadowhunters, to the Miami Institute. You have just been assigned here from the Academy and will start your missions right away. We are going to need specific leadership roles for the Institute, so feel free to roleplay as many characters as you like. Please make a character and wait for me or the Enclave to tag you in the main thread and you can start roleplay.

Sara looked up at the dark Institute, intimidated by its' massive size as she walked up the steps to what mundanes saw as a dump. "Here we go," she whispered to herself, ready to meet the team. In she went.

Karli looks nervous as the Institute she had been assigned loomed ahead of her, it was quite a long ways from New York. She gathered up her courage, which took a couple minutes, ajd went to the door to ring the bell.

The moment Kara Dawlistrus heard the doors open, she let out a small sigh. She loved meeting new people, but she always felt nervous speaking to them, so why was it the enclave always seemed to put her on introduction duty? Today was the day she was meant to meet a few of the new Shadowhunters that were to join their particular Institute. Walking up to the new recruit (Sara) she gave the very warmest of smiles. "Hey there, welcome to the institute. The Academy sent word that you'd be coming here...Sara, right? If you'd like to follow me I'll g-" she began, before hearing the ringing of the doorbell. "Gex, could you get that please?" the blonde woman called out up the stairs behind her, before looking at the girl before her. "Anyway, if you would like to follow me I'll get started on the introductions of the place" she finished.

Behind her a man of average height, 5"8 to be exact, came walking down the stairs. He had slightly messy, dark brown hair, and deep blue eyes. As far as appearances went, he was a bit of a hit amongst the ladies but was quite often left alone due to his anti-social behavior that he sometimes exhibited. His name was Glen Senka, but everybody referred to him as Gex, a childhood nickname he'd had and maintained. Waltzing over to the door, he simply said "Sure" as he passed by Kara and Sara, before pulling the door open slightly.

The moment he saw it was a human and not an outright demon, he opened the door completely. "Yeah? Can I help you?" he questioned, before remembering that that day was the day new shadowhunters came. The Shadowhunter Initiative, Kara had called it. "Right, new Shadowhunters. Since that one's here already, you must be....Carla. No, that wasn't it....Karli. Karli, yeah. Welcome to the institute, my name's Gex" he said, making no mention of the girl's lineage. He knew she was the child of Alec Lightwood, somewhat of an important name, but he was damned if he was going to give someone special treatment for being born into a family.

"Yeah. Sara," she said and followed the enclave through the Institute. Her nervousness started to show with her fingers fidgeting, "I just got out from the Academy."

All in all, it was something of a boring day. Kaimana Mourn, High Warlock of South Beach, yawned flicking his fingers at the fan above just to watch it start spinning. Tall enough to throw his feet over the counter of his mobile shaved ice stand, he was leaned back in the chair, just relaxing. The surf was meh today. Too choppy for him to feel motivated to go out and actually catch a few waves. The mundanes were on the slower side of traffic too, walking right past his cart without seeming to notice it. The warlock blinked, glancing back at the reflection in a building to make sure that it really was visible and he hadn’t slipped from their sight for some reason or another. No, he was most certainly there. Rolling his shoulder in a shrug, he went back to watching the fan circle overhead, occasionally looking off towards the beach.

Today he had actually dressed somewhat. His lower half was covered in the pants from a wet suit, the thick material hugging tight to his skin and showing some amount of the muscle without being overmuch. A new set that he was quite fond of really, with patterns of blue and aqua flowers in stripes down the sides. For his top half he wore a matching button up shirt, the light fabric laying loose over the lean frame. Shaggy nearly platinum blond hair fell to his shoulders, neatly hiding the gills that decorated behind his ears form mundane view. His other warlock mark, the distinctly webbed toes, were actively hidden today by wet shoes. After all, he had heard that there would be new shadowhunters arriving. Fresh form the academy and while he held massive respect and admiration for Magnus Bane, he wasn’t sure how he would have influenced the mind of the children. Especially when set against the sometimes uptight and closed minded way of thinking the older shadowhunters held. Thus, he had hidden most of the marks from mundane view, even though they rarely noticed or commented anyway. Their mind just slid over it, or assumed it was a tattoo or something. No, if there was anything that they commented on, it was the pale hair which he just shrugged and said was bleached by the sun, or the vivid blue-green of his eyes. The same shade as the ocean sometimes took as it settled into the coves. Not that the mundanes minded the color. In fact, there was any number of women, and men, who were entranced by it, calling it beautiful without being otherworldly like those of some of the other warlocks.

Location: Zenia's Apartment → Miami Institute; Outside - Across the street

Ring. Ring. Ring.

Zenia groaned at the sound of her phone ringing. She was just about to start applying mascara on her eyelashes, her hands were already even poised for the action! The fairly young warlock took a deep breathe and closed her eyes for a second. She didn't move from her spot nor did she make any indication that she intended to move and answer her phone. Instead, she just sat there in front of her vanity, waiting for the ringing to die down. A few seconds later it eventually did. Whoever it was that was trying to contact her gave up. Zenia opened her eyes and was greeted by the sight of herself in the mirror.

Sometime while waiting for the ringing to stop, she had put her hand down and let it rest on the vanity desk. In her left was still the bottle of mascara, and in her right was the roller. Her eyes wandered to the reflection of her hands on the mirror. She stared at the scales that covered them and sighed. It's been several years and yet she still couldn't help but think of the same thing she did when she first saw them: hideous. They were already glamoured, but that didn't hide it from her eyes. She shook her head and looked back up to her face. There was no sense in dwelling upon it now. There were just certain things that she could never change no matter how much she wished to.

She lifted her right hand again to resume what it was she was doing before she had been interrupted by the phone. The roller had just touched her eyelashes when her phone rang once more. Zenia jolted in surprise, causing the roller to veer away from it's course and leave a black blot just above the end of her eyebrow. Annoyed at how her make up was now ruined, she haphazardly threw the roller lid back into the bottle of mascara and stomped to her bedside table where her phone was at. Without looking at the caller id, Zenia answered it in a tone that clearly showed how pissed off she was.

"WHAT IS IT?!" she screamed into the poor phone. She could tell that the person on the other end must've cringed and pulled the phone away from their ear. Quite frankly, at the moment, Zenia didn't care if she broke the other person's eardrum. She was pissed. No one, NO ONE, interrupts her so early in the day. The person better have a good explanation as to why they were calling, otherwise they were going to get burned into ashes and cremated early.

The person on the other end sighed. "Nice to see you're so chipper this morning" It was fellow warlock. Zenia met the warlock not long ago. She took a deep breath and spoke in a much calmer tone as opposed to before, she was still pissed off, but the warlock didn't deserve to be screamed at... even if his call was the reason why her make up was now ruined.

"So, why are you--" Before Zenia could finish articulating her question, the warlock cut her off. "They're out," he said simply. The older warlock's response confused her. Out? Who's out? Zenia tried to think. Was there something that she was forgetting? As if the warlock had read her mind, he answered her unvoiced question, "The latest shadowhunter graduates from the academy. They're out now. Those being sent to the Miami institution should be arriving as we speak."

Well that answered one of her questions. But...
"Alright, but I don't see how this is relevant to me." Zenia was met with silence from the other end. She waited for the other person to speak again and they did. "Just thought you should know. If any trouble comes your way while you're in Miami and it involves shadowhunters, it'll likely be their fault."

A few more words were exchanged between the two before they ended their call. While what she said earlier was true, the new shadowhunters arriving was none of her business nor concern, it was nice to know the situation around her. Truthfully she was kind of curious as well, what kind of shadowhunters did the academy churn out and send for the Miami institute. Perhaps she should drop by and see. It wouldn't hurt to take a peek, right? Right.

Having made up her mind, Zenia continued with fixing her make-up and getting ready to drop by the Miami institute.

... ... ...

The Miami institute wasn't very far from her place; it was fifteen minute walk at most. Zenia wasn't exactly sure why she decided to live at such close proximity. Perhaps because she was hoping to find entertainment? She's heard about Magnus, Catrina, and the late Ragnor's experiences with shadowhunters. She must admit, those were quite interesting to hear, especially those of Magnus'. Who would've thought, a warlock falling in love with a shadowhunter... though, she supposes, that Tessa Gray is
technically a warlock who fell in love with, not just one, but two shadowhunters! "Lucky girl," Zenia mumbled to herself. Maybe someday she'll find a love like that. Maybe.

Zenia stood across the road from the church. To mundanes it was abandoned, something they needn't pay any attention to. But Zenia knew better. She peeled the glamour away easily. Years of practice has made it akin to second nature to her. The full glory of the Miami institute was soon revealed to her eyes. No matter how many times she's seen an institute, it never ceases to amaze her how beautiful the structure is.

Now what? She thought to herself as she simply stood there. Maybe dropping by wasn't such a good idea after all.

Sara

She followed the enclave in the institue, and gazed around. This was the only institue she had ever seen in life, a result of living in Idris and going straight to the Academy. She had also never been in the mundane world before, so her way here, her eyes were filled with wonder, "I can't wait to explore the mundane world," she said to the enclave, "Uh, after my first mission of course."

Helena

She looked at her phone, debating on wheter or not to call Zenia, and if she did whether or not to talk about her upcoming party or the fact that Zenia didn't call her the MOMENT that she found out new Shadowhunters were coming. She loved when rookies from the Academy came. She liked to introduce herself to them and offer them their help. Especially to the guys. She loved flirting with them, despite how much they push her away. She looked out her window, where the Institute was on the other side of Miami. Maybe calling Zenia wasn't really mandatory. She could yell at her later at the party. Talking about the party, she had to send out invites. She snapped her fingers and an orange mist appeared on the bed next to her, ready to be sent.

"Josiah!" She yelled and her winged servant appeared.

"Yes, ma'am?" He asked.

"Send these invites out. Make sure you get one to Zenia, Kai, and to the Institute."

"Of course." And he left.

Now all she had to do was choose clothing. That would take hours.

Mentioned: Helena Matic (@Codebreaker)

Zenia's eyes traced the path leading to the Institute's doors before coming to rest on the young woman standing before the doors.
I'm guessing that's one of them. The door of the institute soon opened in greeting. Another shadowhunter stood on the other side holding the door open. Glen Senka, she thought upon recognizing who it was welcoming the new girl. Albeit she's only been in Miami for a month, it wasn't difficult for Zenia to learn or at least familiarize herself with the names and faces of the shadowhunters in the area. She hasn't really encountered them herself, but the other downworlders in the area have, particularly those who've been in Miami longer than she has. Zenia has managed to acquire the names along with the physical traits of the shadowhunters from their stories. Putting two and two together after was simple, each shadowhunter in the area was thankfully unique enough to discern them from each other.

The young warlock was still contemplating on whether or not to approach the shadowhunters and let her presence be known, when a winged creature suddenly popped up beside her. Zenia turned her attention to her new companion and upon glance, she immediately recognized it to be one of Helena's servants. Helena was a fellow warlock residing in the Miami area. They've met before. Were they close? Zenia wasn't certain. She didn't have time to ponder on that question at that moment however as the winged servant began to speak. "My master is hosting a party and she requests for your attendance," he said with an impish grin on his face. In his outstretched hand was an invite. Zenia slowly raised a delicate eyebrow before plucking the invite out of the servant's hand.

"Who else is invited?" she asked as she gave the invite a quick read.

"Kai and the members of the Institute," the servant responded.

As soon as she was done reading, Zenia folded the invite and slipped it into the back pocket of her jeans. Looks like there was party she now had to prepare for... or does she? Zenia was contemplating on whether or not she should go. But then again, when has she ever turned down an invite to a party? Never.
"Tell Helena that I'll be coming." She said while glancing at the institute. It would be waste of time if she didn't see the new recruits, after all, that was what she came to do. Though she seen one of them, she doubted that only the girl was the only newbie there; Zenia was fairly sure here were others. As she thought this, a brilliant idea entered her mind. A small smile spread across her lips.

The servant turned and was about to leave when Zenia called out,
"Wait." This startled the servant. He turned around to face Zenia. Once he did, the warlock held out her hand. The servant frowned, evidently confused by her action. Feeling merciful on the poor soul, Zenia answered his unvoiced question. "I'm on my way to the Institute, in fact, I'm already here," she motioned to the Institute just across the street, "So give me the invite and I'll hand it over to the shadowhunters for you." He gave her a skeptical look but quickly gave in and shrugged before handing the invite to warlock.

Zenia grinned in triumph and waved goodbye as the servant disappeared, presumably on his way to wherever Kai was--Zenia assumes this to be the beach, it's where the warlocks say he would oft be found. The brunette began to wonder if the High Warlock would be in attendance at the party. Zenia shrugged the thought away as she began to make her way across and up the steps leading to the Institute doorway. She paused once she reached the top and smiled at the shadowhunters at the doorway.

"Hello Nephilim~" she greeted in a sing song voice.

"Hello. Yes it is Karli. I guess I will be staying here for a while.," the girl said, if not a little akwardly. She shifted the bags in her hand, and stepped a little closer to the door.

Once Kara had shown Sara around a little bit, she was surprised to hear her remark about the mundane world. While it wasn't uncommon for shadowhunters to go straight from the Academy to the Institute, to have never even seen it was certainly not what she expected. "Well, I'm sure after your first mission you'll be able to go and see it. Maybe before, if you're lucky. It's nothing too special, but it's certainly...different, I suppose. So, do you have any questions I can answer for you while showing you around?" the girl asked, eager to impart some of her knowledge.

@Codebreaker

Gex shrugged his shoulders slightly before opening his mouth to speak. "Some people are here for a long time, like myself, some of them leave after only a few days. Depends where you're needed really. Speaking of which" he said, looking now in the direction of Zenia and taking note of the slightly forked tongue. He didn't have a problem with downworlders, and warlocks were arguably his favourite kind. They'd helped him out a few times, but something about the magic they wielded had always fascinated Gex. That being said, he had been assigned the job of welcoming Karli inside, not bringing in every soul that turned up to the door. "Can I help you, warlock?" he questioned.

The smile on her face faltered when the female shadowhunter ignored her. Zenia didn't like being ignored, in fact, she hates it Normally anyone who ignores her would let a verbal backlash, but since the girl was obviously new, she decided to be merciful--then again, even if she wasn't new, Zenia doubted that she would actually spite a shadowhunter. That wouldn't be a wise move and Zenia was no idiot. But still, it was rather awkward. Her standing there as the two shadowhunters conversed. Thankfully the older shadowhunter, Glen, noticed her and decided to acknowledge her presence.

"Can I help you, warlock?" he asked. Zenia's smile grew into a grin. "Why, yes. Yes you can. I have something for you shadowhunters of the Miami Institute." The brunette stepped closer to the shadowhunters before taking out the Institute's invite to Helena's party and handing it to the male shadowhunter. "You know Helena, right? Warlock. Blonde. Female. Likes to throw parties. Anyway, she's hosting one later, a party I mean, and wishes to invite you shadowhunters," She glanced at the female shadowhunter. "New ones included."

Zenia wasn't exactly sure why the blonde warlock wanted to extend the invite to shadowhunters as well. She had an inkling that teh blonde warlock simply wished to see the nephilim in the area. From her experience, downworlder parties normally didn't include nephilim in the guest list, though she supposes that times have changed. Ever since the cold peace, faeries were taken off of any guest list. No downworlder would want to be seen fraternizing with any of the Fair Folk. It was harsh. Zenia knew how Magnus Bane had tried to convince the shadowhunters to lighten their punishment on the fair folk, but the nephilim were proud and stood by their decision.
Sed lex dura lex. The law is hard but it is the law. She was no shaowhunter, but even she knew the quote. It was quite infamous in how truthful it was. The shadowhunter life reflects it greatly. Thank the heavens she wasn't born one of them.

Company: Alas, no one. (Unless you happen to count the messenger)

Kaimana was in a slightly different position than he had been earlier. His arms folded on the counter of his little stand, the vivid blue green eyes fixed on the waves. He was debating on using his magic to change it. Just a little bit. Make the swells crashing into the shore into a wicked surf. He knew a spell that would work wonderfully, and it wasn’t like he didn’t have the power to reach out and make it happen.

His trail of thoughts was interrupted by the whisper of orange mist appearing. Raising one eyebrow, he glanced to the side at the creature. A winged thing, he just stared at it for several moments before placing it as belonging to Helena Matic. His lips twitched up slightly.
”Is Helena throwing a party?”

The creature bowed as the high warlock of south beach stood up. “Yes sir. Your invitation.”

His acceptance of the letter held all the formality the rest of the situation lacked. A gesture to make things just a little bit easier for the creature since Kai was willing to bet it was far more used to a list of proper procedures. Flicking it open, he let his eyes trail over the paper, one hand held up to the servant asking it to wait.
”Who all has she invited?” Depending on the guest list, he could probably guess the reason for the party. Not that the reason, or the list actually affected if he was going or not. It had been a while since he had dressed up nice and fancy and taken a few hours upon the town.

“Zenia, who has taken the invitation for the institute.”

One eyebrow rose, Kai not letting the whisper of worry show on his face. He knew nothing about these new shadowhunters. Perhaps Magnus and Lightwood had managed to influence their thinking.
”I see everyone is excited to see the new batch.” Nodding his head slightly, he looked back to the creature, smiling. ”Let Helena know that I’ll be in attendance.”

He watched the creature disappear even as he folded the invite up and started drawing things into the shop, getting ready to close up the trailer. Helena would no doubt expect rather formal dress, and he had just the right outfit planned. It took only a few moments for everything to be nice and tightly tucked away. Then, with a snap of his fingers and a shower of azure sparks, the high warlock and his little hobby, disappeared. It was probably not a good thing to do that too often, although really the mundanes never seemed to notice, and if they did they wrote it off as the trailer having just moved off, or maybe they were seeing things.

It appeared settled neatly into its spot in his yard several miles away a few moments later, the pull of the portal closing. Dusting off the last lingering traces of the magic, Kai stepped out of the trailer and started up towards his house, fingers trailing across the plethora of plants that filled his yard, turning it into something of a garden paradise, complete with a water fountain and little lights decorating the pathway.

She was in the middle of multitasking between choosing a dress and the food choice when her winged servant appeared. She didn't look at him as she asked him who was coming.

"Kai and Zenia have both decided to attend. Nothing from the insitute."

"Alright. I hope they come. I'd love to meet potential customers," she looked at the two dresses and cocked her head to the side, "Kai is coming, you say?"

"Yes, ma'am," Josiah responded.

"Okay," she said and grabbed the greenish blue dress that flirted with her mid thigh. It was formal yet elegant with its silk sleeves and sweetheart neckline, "Blue. I know he's been feeling down with the ocean lately. Now about the decor."

"Yes?"

"Hmm...Get the decorator on it. Remind her of all our guests dilemmas."

"Would an 'eye of the beholder' spell do fit?"

"Perfect!" Helena said and patted her servant on the shoulder, "If only there were college for us Downworlders."

She smiled and went back to her room, checking off the multitudes of food and went to do her hair and make up...thatwould take longer than the dresses.

Sara

"No, ma'am," she said to the enclave, "Just need to get some new clothes. All mine are...broken. Is there a place for me to get more?"

She looked at her measly bag in hand. It only had clothing that were hand me downs, but she was too ashamed to admit it. The Greenwalkers were not a fortunate family. They took whatever they coukd to save the money they had, "Also, is there a chance I could go to my room? It was a long journey."

"A party?" Karli said nervously, slowly inching closer to the door. "Do we have to go?" Karli looked a little more pale than usual.

Kara thought for a moment at the girl's questions. As a mental map appeared in her mind, she began thinking of the places Sara could get some clothes. "I'm sure we have some clothes lying around here, and if we don't then you could borrow some of mine if you like, and your room is down that hall to your left, third door on the right" Kara explained, pointing in the direction of which she spoke. "Once you get a little more settled in, why not have a look around and get to know some of the other shadowhunters here?" she suggested in a friendly tone, giving an accompanying, warm smile as she did so.

Gex, however, was not quite as friendly as Kara. He took the invite and gave it a quick look over, before looking back up at the downworlder before him. "I'll pass on the message, but I won't be attending the party. If you want to go, Karli, then go for it, but if you don't then don't. There's nothing stating you have to, and if you've been to one warlock party you've been to them all" he said. He wasn't being entirely rude, but he saw nothing that demanded he treated the warlock like they were friends. They weren't. He glanced down at Karli, made a mention to close the door when she was finished with it, then turned and wandered over to Kara and handed her the invite. Once he'd done that, he began heading over towards the area where the weapons were stored.

"Hmmm, not attend the party?" The brunette warlock tapped a perfectly manicured nail on her chin, acting as if she was pondering the answer to the young shadowhunter's question when in reality, however, she already knew the answer. She knew that Helena would be accept if they had declined their invite, how upset though was what Zenia wasn't sure of. But it seems that the male shadowhunter wasn't aware of this as he answered that he wont be attending. At least he didn't prevent the newbie from coming. "and if you've been to one warlock party you've been to them all" Zenia couldn't help but let out a scoff at the shadowhunter's parting words as he went back inside the institute.

She momentarily glared at the spot that the male shadowhunter had momentarily been standing on before turning back to the new one.
"'If you've been to one, you've been to them all' he says." She shook her head while tutting. "Pay him no mind. Every warlock party is different my dear." Well, not really. Truthfully she had to agree with the male shadowhunter. Most warlock parties were pretty much the same. The only reason why she goes when invited is to show herself off as well as courtesy to the host. But of course, it wouldn't do well for her to agree to the male's words. If she did, then the chances of getting the girl to go would drop greatly.

"It's true that you don't have to go if you don't want to. Like your fellow nephilim said, there's nothing stating that you have to be in attendance, but I don't think it would be wise to do that. It would upset Helena quite a bit." A Cheshire cat-like grin slowly spread across her face. "You wouldn't want to upset a warlock, now would you?" She stuck her forked tongue out, reminding her of what she was. Zenia meant the action in a non-threatening way, of course. The warlock was merely teasing. Poor girl; the brunette knew she was probably making her uncomfortable, but it was fun and Zenia liked fun.

Unfortunately, with letter delivered, her job there was done; it was time to go. As much as she enjoyed teasing the poor girl, there were other things that she had to do, such as getting ready for the party--the devil knows she takes forever to get ready. She flipped her hair back.
"Well, my job here is done. As much as I'd love to stay and chat, I don't think I'm quite welcome here," she glanced briefly inside the institute before returning her gaze to the newbie. "I'll see you at the party~" Zenia turned around and started to make her way back to her place. Can't wait to see what happens tonight.

Faith

Faith arrived at the Institute for the first time, she took in the overall look of the place and it's surroundings. It looked just as any other would, a run down church of sorts. She concentrated and the true form took shape, the modern yet traditional building appeared before her eyes. She stepped up onto the steps and pressed her palm to the big wooden doors, they flung open to her touch, as any other would. As she stepped foot onto the tile of it's foyer, Not bad... Faith thought to herself as she began to explore the place.
