Sex and Exalted

Gods getting it with their siblings really isn't a big thing, though, since by the account of most Creation myths there wasn't anyone else around.

the things printed in exalted are lewd, crude, and completely obscene!!

besides... i have a bad experience with................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................boobies   .......... boobs murdered my father, and raped my mother!

Of course Exalted is perverted.  These are not nice people.  If they just went on about normal human sexuality (hetero, homo and bi) they would not be able to express it fully.  The fact that elder Dragon-Blooded rape little children while smoothering under their vast bulk and no one in the government does anything says something about the Realm.  The fact that Solars once enslaved and raped hundreds of young girls in order to provide themselves with an army of Golden Children says something about why they were considered Anathema.  The Exalted represent the corruption of power and showing them in quite evil sexual practices is an illustration of that.

Even if it wasn't canon, I would actually expect the Solars to be worse than that. We are talking about the folks who summoned the most powerful enemies of creation for sexual pleasure here. I imagine that they forced their children to rape hundreds of girls to see if their own blood was strong enough for their children to also produce Half-Castes. :?

Why should they? the solars of the first age were likely in the essence 8-10 range at one point or another. I think their high attributes with even the most basic social charms such an old exalt would have would lead to the people giving themselves out of free will to the solar.

but all that is totally besides the point, because the arguement of his that "exalted uses sex to show how perverted the exalts all are" is totally void when there is no canon source doing so. So actually it is totally unimportant whether we believe that would have happened or not, it is just not the focus of the arguement at hand.

We forgot Oedipus in all of our talk of the Greeks, as killing your father and bedding your mother (even unintentionally) is pretty whack.  (Wiggity whack?  No, just regular type.)

Don't forget that, to prove his own power after she turned into a giant serpent to devour him, Zues turned into a giant serpent and raped his mother.  Which, well, pretty much blows Oedipus out of the water.

Oh, and there are at least two stories of the birth of Dionysus, one of which has him being born from the cast off semen of Hephestus after he tried to rape Athena.

But let's not forget that, for all the women Zeus may have beguiled into having sex with him in various forms (though they might simply have gone along with it anyway, unless they were rightfully afraid of pissing off Hera), we also get Orpheus and Eurydice, one of the best stories of the quest for love, from the Greeks.  Oprheus went to Hades to get his dead wife back, only to be tricked by that bitch Aphrodite (don't let anyone tell you she was anything other than a snarky bitch) into losing her not far from the surface.  He was then torn apart by Dionysus' insane female followers because he wouldn't have sex with them.  Orpheus provides a marvelous example of heroic love which, in my opinion, has at least as much influence on Exalted and blows away anything in later, Christian inspired Western Literature.  Sure, inadvertant double suicide is one thing, but tramping through Hell to get your loved one back?  Eat that Shakespere!

The Song of Rig, from Norse mythology, also involves Heimdal, wicked badass solar god extoridianare, traveling the world, staying with the three couples that (seem) to exist, sleeping with the wives, and spawning the three castes of Nordic society.  Personally one of my favorite (albeit incomplete) stories from the mythology.

Sex is just all over the old mythologies, because sex isn't a big deal.  If exalted was based on the old mythologies and filtered through Christian mentalities, like, say D&D and basically all the rest of them, then it would lack the primal lustre that it has and, personally, I wouldn't be nearly as interested in it.

Furthemore, like just about everybody has said, it's a maturity thing.  WW, though they mess up a lot of stuff in my opinion, has gotten it right with the whole mature gamers angle, there are certainly immature gamers who play WW games, but there are mature D&D players too.  WW just picked their audience and stuck with them, through thick and thin.

Actually my (probably badly made) point was that being sexually unconventional is one of the fastest ways to huge amounts of power. Faster than gaining mucho essence and charms, faster than researching old tech and rebuilding it.

It's not that sex is in exalted

It's not that it is blatant and open about it

It's not that it is unfiltered by christian points of view

It is that looking through tthe book it is ont of the quickest ways to take over the world

Actually, the fastest way to take over the world would be to get some really skilled Exalted and DK artificiers, go to Rathess, fix the Orrery, use it to find the Eye of Autocthon, and then just don't screw up.

No sex involved.

Or do that old tech research, and slip into the Sword of Creation (a.k.a. Realm Defense Grid)... the ability to call in the Martial Weather and other various powers...as well as the Emergency Conquest System (Hello, I now own the world, surrender before I smite you all. Yes, YOU. You know who you are.) Sure, doesn't give complete control of the world...but it's a very good start...and you can skip the sex, just need a few sacrifices of your most trusting companions. Nothing major...

As I have vouchsafed before, I believe the copanion-sacrifice thing was just to get the Manse to accept a lowly DB. I personally believe that a Celestial would have a much easier time getting the Manse to work, especially a Solar.

Agreed, the manse would probably serve the solar beer to his new "armageddon TV"-system ^^

Only prolbem with that is that right now the hearthstone of that manse is probably in malfeas or well hidden... and well... damaging the sword of creation to make it grow a new one sounds hellishly dangerous to me.

... because the Hearthstone of the most powerful system of Manses in Creation being in Malfeas sounds like an oh so much safer option...

The day you think of something NOT involving those goddamn lizards is the day my head explodes.

<.< >.>  Only gods dissapear if they get forgotten.

And, contrary to the individual egos of the members of this board, I don't think any of us have ascended yet.

Even those who have tried or are working on the subject. O.o

Oh I never said it was... at best I'd consider it an interesting dilemma for an experienced group of solars :)

Umm the Sword of creation is the head manse of a sert of war manses... and it has been stated before that war manses do not produce hearthstones.

Also what I find funny is that Jukashi spouted a power plan involving the dragon kings and tried to claim it would not involve sex

Quite possible, unless the Emperess programmed the Defense Array to fry anyone who tried to activate it while she was still alive.  There has to be a reason why no one has gone into it and survived.  After all, the Deathlords designed the damn thing.

Of course, when the Emperess and her new hubby come for a visit, one wonders if the automatic defense systems of the Realm will take her out with Ebon Dragon.  Just a thought.

After all, the Deathlords designed the damn thing.
No, Autochton designed and built the sword of creation and I severly doubt he would have included an autopilot or some nice lunar would have put it on autopilot before the usurpation and creation would never have had any trouble with the fairies.

I don't doubt you Safim, but it says in Fair Folk that the Deathlords are the twisted souls of the Solars who built the Realm's defenses.  Did they change it to Autochton in 2E?

The deathlords were the ghosts of 13 first age solars

but the Sword fo Creation (the defense grid) was built byu the combined efforts of the copper spiders and authochthon
