Is it just me or does seual deviancy seem to be a major theme in exalted


Sorcery spell that lets you enslave someone by sleeping with them

Incest in dragon blooded society leading to stronger dragon bloods


God bloods


Demon bloods


Freaking GHOST bloods?


hell on second thoughts, sexual deviancy seems to be a quick path to ultimate power


add to that the solar socialize charms which are borderline mind control, thus may constitute rape

Have you read most of the Greek tales?


How many times did Zeus show up, as something entirely inhuman, and impregnate a gal, while Hera was off doing Goddess stuff?  And that demigod showed up in later tales as a grand hero?
 
What happens in the Threshold, stays in the Threshold.


At least until the progeny return in a fury for the blood of the living...

It's more that Exalted's inspiration is a lot less prudish than 20th century America.  And even in America, where we don't talk about sex in public, look at how much "sex leads to power" really works.  Sex sells in advertising.  Sex sells in video games.  Sex (and inheritance - since you brought up the various N-Blooded offspring) is important in keeping the rich rich - a form of power in its own right, since we don't have magic.
 
Keep in mind, too, that with the movers and shakers in Exalted being both powerful and sexually active for several centuries at least, that changes a lot about a world. In our world, it is very rare for someone to be rich, powerful and at their sexual peak at the same time. Dragon Blooded, in contrast, are all three for several hundred years.


Also, while much wealth (and some power) in our world is inherited, the long lifespan of exalts makes inheritance slow-going in Exalted, so it seems likely that sexual politics would become more important as pathways to influence.
 
And let's face it, if you were a powerful demigod, with a girlfriend who was a shapechanger, could you really not give into a wee bit of temptation?  


And let's face it, Exalted are rock stars. Bigger even. And girls line up to throw their panties at fellas who play guitar. Try saving the world and fighting demons and the Undead.


How many times can you turn down the village virgins being tossed at you? Or shapely Exalt women who want to use their inferior Charms to try to get into your good graces?  Or little Gods and Goddess looking to do the same?  Or even sexy ghosts who want to rub up on your Exaltedness?


Exalted live a loooong time, and even a saint can crack every now and then, and if you crack once, you might again, and see it ain't so bad.  Who's hurt if you sex up a ghost? Or a transformed animal?  A God endowed animal at that?  Heck, it's a sign of respect if a God or Goddess, big or small shows up and wants a little of your Exalted action.


Sex has long been a theme for WW games. This isn't anything new, and it fits with the mythic theme to boot.
 
And most of the complaints on this subject will be coming from the sexually oppressed American side of the Atlantic.


"Make war, not love!" is the popular opinion in the U.S.A..


Has anyone wondered why painting the theater screen with blood is looked upon as something suitable for children to view (with their parents as per rated R), but full contact sex is an 18 and over enterprise only (even in states that allow sex between fourteen year olds)?


One of the many reasons I believe America has perverted the entire state of being human.


"God bless America" isn't a statement anymore, it's a plea for help.


Unfortunately, it's usually used by those who want to cut down on the sex and increase the war.  They at least want us to cut down on the pre-marital and extra marital sex, since they say that married sex between a man and a woman should produce as many babies as are possible before the woman dies from the strain, but then the guy should get remarried and keep going until he can't make kids anymore (no matter whether he can support this family or not in some cases).

Exalted is my first White Wolf game and I'm still a little shocked at JUST the sexuality, deviancy notwithstanding.  Weather it's rubbing one out to the immaculate texts, or a holy bj on the steps of your newly created manse, there's just a lot of sex.  And then there's the illustrations... :shock:


I've been out of gaming for a while, I'm used to Palladium, Steve Jackson, Fasa.  Is this just an Exalted thing, or a White Wolf thing?  


I don't think I'm prude, just trying to get the wife into my hobby and I'm afraid she'll crack open the new Storytellers Guide one day and flip.

White Wolf makes games for mature players.  "Mature" in the sense of "grown-up", not "lewd and perverted".  That's just how it is, that's the target audience they've chosen to publish to, and the fact that 14-year-old boys flip out screaming "SIX NIPPLES" is a problem with puberty, not publishing.


They haven't gone as far as to publish a "sex sourcebook" (to my knowledge) and they don't really push it hard (in my opinion).  But sex has some kind of role in a lot of their game lines.
 
Actually the sex/violence absurdity going on the U.S.A. has been a huge amusement for me for quite some time now. In this respect white wolf is a pretty european company and honestly that is a good thing.


Whoever thinks that rubbing off is not suitable for a gaming book is a prude to be honest. Deal with it, it happens daily, your kids do it, your neighbour... everyone ^^ Perhaps not to religious texts but to each his own :)

There are no hard and fast rules for how you grasp the lengthy topic of sexuality in Exalted. Clumsy handling could cause a sticky situation with your players, but if you have a firm grip of the material it can enhance the process of bringing your story to a climax. The attempt to have a well-rounded approach can be hard to keep on top of, but at full penetration it can add a pleasurable depth. Keep it coming slow and smooth, and you may find yourself arousing the experience of your game to new heights of social intercourse.

While I have little to contribute and am uncertain whether or not doing this will contribute to my microscopic reputation, but I feel deep within my heart that I stand with Jukashi on this matter.


...I don't know, I think boobies solve 50% of the wolrd's (and Creation's) problems.

True.  But it is still fun to say boobies.   :lol:


Looking at the 2ed Blessed Isle book, one thing that surprised me is the discourse on how homosexuality is comon place among the Dragon Blooded.  So long as you pop out a child every 10 to 12 years, who cares what rocks your boat in the mean time?  Male wariors that fight together often come back to camp for a episode of 'Brokeback Exalted' and everyone is cool with it.  Even the Empress has had numerous female lovers.  I just wasn't expecting to see it put forth in print so boldly.  Perhaps hinted at.  I don't have a problem with that.  What two concenting adults do behind closed doors with a midget, a goat, and some dead people is up to them.
 
Like I said, its not the fact that sex is rampant in Exalted.  I was just surprised that it was brought up in such a simple, but straight forward way.  It is a topic that many people do not feel comfortable talking about in a serious way without making stupid jokes.  I remember some of the comments made back in my D&D days about the girls in their chainmail bikinis and would it be worth it to spend the night with that succubus even with the level draining.


I have to give credit to WW about the no nonsense way they have handled subjects like slavery, drug use, and sex in Exalted.  They seem to be operating on the belief that their players are going to be adult enough to take a controvertial and possibly uncomfortable subject in the proper context.
 
well thats why they also include the warning box's about the topics in most the exalted books, so if you cant... you can see the warning and go away (hopfully)
 
Part of the reason of the post was to things like beast men god blooded. When you do the mathematics here you realize that using survival charms to get the bitches (literal use of the term) willing, you can father litters of half caste and raise an army that reaches maturity in half the time of a human army. They also have the ability to awaken their essence.


if you are a solar then you can use tiger warrior training.. which can take on a whole new level of pun if you befriend some female tigers.. and train essence x 100 per month to elites, and because they reach maturity faster you can, within 15-20 years, make enough to take on the realm.


Sex is not so much the path to power.. deviant sex is


Bestiality, necrophilia and rape all lead to an increase of personal power if combined with the right charms.. and those are the powers the good guys get...

As seafoam? Horses? Showers of mist? Bulls? Greek gods had they way with the fine Greek maids in all forms of sex that weren't "man-on-top-get-it-over-with-quick" sort of couplings.


Let's not forget him taking his sister as his wife.


And the dozens of nymphs and other lesser lights in the pantheon and semi-divine that he bedded. Heck, his own wife became his biggest nemesis in some circles, because of his philandering. And fathering of how many demi-gods?


He bedded the defeated Titans' wives and sisters even. Just to rub insult to injury. And his own sisters.


He was the father to the Fates--depending on which stories you follow, with either Ananke or Themis.  And the Hours. The Muses by Mnemosyne.


Persephone by Demeter.


Aphrodite by way of Dione.


Apollo and Artemis by way of Leto.


Hermes by Maia.


Athena by Metis--who he swallowed because he was afraid that a child would come back and do him like he did his own father, repeating the same sin as Cronus.


Let's not forget that Dionysus was one of his extra-marital by-blows as well.


Greek myth is rife with the Gods messing around with mortals, heck that's where half the heroes came from, the unions between the Gods and mortals, or nymphs. Or other Goddesses. Or animals for that matter.


Methinks you didn't pay attention to the whole cycle of Greek tales...
