As for your resplendency question, you appear as you define the destiny (I assume this is when you create it, I'm not really clear) so appearing as a young widow is just fine, people will accept you as that as an uncontested action. As for other backgrounds that identity has, she has none (Backing, connections, ect.) until she creates them - so yes you must talk your way into any retinue when it's dramatically appropriate for me to ask for a roll. That said if your resplendency was a soldier and you walked into a large base in the right uniform you'd obtain nice larceny bonuses for doing so.
