Sealed Memories

"Y-you don't remember me?" She asked sadly, not knowing if she should follow him or not. Her heart hurt so much that all she could do is fall to her knees. Could he really forget her? After standing up for him and making sure he wasn't alone, he had forgotten her. It had made feel like shit. She looked at him walking away, wanting to come over to him and stop him, but feeling too weak to do so. "I missed you. I wished I would've brought you with me, or come back myself," she whispered, more for herself than for him.

Felix arrived to the front of his apartment. As he panted for breath, he realized that he had forgotten his backpack at the park which held the keys into his room. Thankfully he had a spare key under the doormat, but he still had to go back for his bag. Felix entered his room and fell onto the bed, thoughts wildly flooding his mind as he pondered on what the girl was going to do. She was different, however. She acted like she knew him. He rolled onto his back, clearing his mind of those thoughts. She was probably just putting on a pity act. he thought to himself, sighing and thinking about how his life would be ruined this time.

Lucy cried a bit longer until she decided that she needed to stop. No matter how much her heart hurt, no matter how much she wanted to curl up in a ball and die, she had to get up. She saw his backpack, so she grabbed it, walking back to her car. She put it on top of her own; she'd give it to him at school tomorrow. She hit her head against the wheel just once before turning on her car and began driving home. Today had not been what she was expecting at all.

After a night of bad sleep, Felix awoke tired and anxious. He debated with himself whether or not he wanted to go back to the school, paranoid that the girl already told everyone else, but he also needed his stuff back. Deciding to give Lucy a small chance, he somberly walked back to school, his tail tucked under his shirt and his hood pulled over his eyes, walking in a way that he wouldn't bump into anyone.

Lucy had slept horribly the night before. Remembering the orphanage and all the negative emotions that surrounded it was quite taxing. She woke up, noticeable dark circles under her eyes. She got ready like any other day, but put a sweatshirt on to hide herself, which was a mess, from everyone. She drove to school, Felix's backpack side by side with her own. She entered the school, looking for him so that she didn't have live the burden of carrying two seperate back packs.

Felix scurried along the school grounds, trying to avoid the girl that confronted him the day before.

He then walked through two students who seemed to be having a "playful" conversation. One of the students, a snob-like boy, got annoyed at this and grabbed Felix's shoulder as he walked past, blurting out, "Hey, don't you know it's rude to walk between people as they're trying to have a conversation?" He turned Felix around, who just stared with cold, blank eyes, his mind still running through thoughts of yesterday's encounter. "Hey, look at me when I'm talking to you!" The student reached for Felix's hood, whose feline instincts knocked away the student's hand. "Oh, you don't wanna mess with me," the student chuckled, grabbing Felix by the front of his over-sized hoodie. It wasn't until then that Felix came to his senses, realizing that his tail could slip out the back of the sweater if he wasn't careful, so he gripped on to the bottom of his clothing and pulled down, trying to keep his tail a secret. Fear and confusion filled his eyes, as he didn't know what he did to piss off his aggressor.

Lucy looked around the school, trying to find Felix. She heard some commotion across the hall so she looked closely. It was Felix and one of the tough kids in some sort of argument. She walked closer to get a better look. She then saw that the kid was grabbing on to Felix's hood, so she began running towards them, shedding the backpacks along the way. She ran in between them, separating the tough guy's grub on Felix's sweatshirt. Lucy then kicked the guy in the balls, effectively making him grab his balls in pain. She punched him in the face, grabbed Felix's arm, and dragging them both away from the guy. She grabbed their backpacks on the way. "We gotta start running or else he'll get to us and we'll be dead meat." She said.

It's not like I have a choice Felix thought to himself, snapping out of his trance as he took the lead, dragging Lucy behind him to his quiet place behind the school. After a few moments of silence, he said to the girl quietly, "Thanks for that, I guess..."

"We don't want your secret getting out, do we? It's no problem... Anything for a friend," she said, looking down. She held their backpacks in her hands. She set hers on the ground and set his in front of him. Oh, how she missed the good old days.

"I don't get why you're being so nice to me, or why you say I'm your friend," Felix said as he picked up his backpack, "but I guess I can give you a chance." The school bell rang, signaling the start of the first period. "Thanks for saving my backpack," he said quietly as he walked past Lucy.

"The orphanage... It was a rough place once I left, wasn't it? Probably suppressed all the memories of it to keep the pain away. Wusses way out, but I guess can understand where you're coming from. Maybe I'll help you remember," she said. She stayed outside, wanting to breathe fresh air for a little longer.

Felix walked to his first class while trying to avoid the bully from earlier. It was English Literature, and he did quite enjoy the class, a fan of reading and all. He used reading as a means of hiding himself from the world, finding private spaces to delve into a novel while at the orphanage. The orphanage... How does she know about the orphanage? Felix thought to himself as he sat in the back of the class, his face stoic as the teacher lectured about the joys of Shakespeare. Maybe she was just one of the kids who had the decency to leave me alone. The bell then rang as everyone got up and began to leave the classroom, except for one girl with light brown hair which reached her shoulders with a pair of glasses over her matching light brown eyes, who slowly approached Felix. Felix sighed. Great.

"E-excuse me," she said in a shy, quiet voice. "I couldn't help but notice your engrossed look into today's lecture."

You mean the look that I always have?

"I could see it in your eyes, your interest in novels and stories, your desire to learn more. I-I  was wondering if y-you would like to join the school's book club?"

Felix noticed her twisting the tip of her shoe on the floor. She was obviously nervous. After a few moments of silence, Felix finally responded. "...I'll think about it."

The girl's face lit up with excitement as she grabbed Felix's hand. "Really? Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!" Felix pulled his hand away from the girl, still wary of people making physical contact with him. "S-sorry. It's just that you're the first one to say you'll consider joining. My name's Mirelinde Sorrel, but my friends call me Mira for short (if I had friends, that is...)."

"...Felix Heinlein."

Mirelinde nodded as she handed him a slip of paper with the location of the club room. "Meet me there after school." She then turned around and walked out with her hands behind her back and a smile on her face. What have I gotten myself in to? Felix thought to himself, gathering his things and leaving the classroom behind her. He then headed off in the direction of his secluded spot behind the school.

(Sorry... I've just been really busy. Annnnnnnndddddd now I need to go to work. *Sighs* I'll reply as soon as I can. Sorry 'bout scaring you and making you wait!!!)

Lucy waited for a little bit longer until about a minute before class would start. She then walked in and got to class. The whole time, Lucy was thinking of her time in the orphanage. She was soon made fun of because she would defend Felix. She wished that Felix could remember her. Then again,  he would have to relive all those horrible memories all over again.

Soon after, class was over. She left and decided to go to her locker. She quickly realized that would be a bad idea considering she didn't want to see her friends at the moment. She went to her next class, there before anyone else, even the teacher. She began doodling in her notebook, since she had nothing else to do.

Felix sat in his private space with his eyes closed, listening to the gentle autumn winds blow past. He opened his eyes when the school bell disturbed his peaceful tranquility. Felix gathered his things and trudged off to his next class.

Meanwhile, a girl walked into Lucy's class with a slight skip in her step. Everyone referred to her as the bookworm since she was always hanging out in the library alone, but her actual name was Mirelinde. She took her seat next to Lucy's as she happily pulled out a book from her bag, delving into it with a smile on her face, humming to herself as she read.

Lucy looked over and smiled at Mirelinde. "Hello, Mirelinde! Whatcha reading?" Lucy asked, genuinely interested. She looked over at the door; no one had come just yet. They were most likely in the hallway talking to their friends. (Sorry for taking so long to reply!!!)

"Oh, nothing," Mirelinde replied happily. "*Sigh* Something great happened today! I was able to hopefully get someone to join my literature club! A boy too. He seems cute, but it's hard to get a really good look of his face because of his hood."

"Oh, good! I was hoping you would get one. I was getting a bit concerned. What's this mystery guy's name?" she said. She was smiling excitedly. She always wanted to see Mirelinde succeed. She definitely deserved it. But a guy in a hood... Sounded a bit too close to Felix.

"I think his name was Felix Heinlein?" Mirelinde responded. Felix sneezed as he headed towards his next class. "Maybe he's hiding something under that hood, like a bad haircut..."

"Oh, the new kid? I'm pretty sure it's a bad haircut or something... Most likely something he doesn't want anyone seeing, so you probably shouldn't try to look underneath the hood." She said. She wanted to make sure that Felix was safe. Even if he had forgotten her, she still felt responsible for him.

"Maybe you're right..." Mira mumbled before getting really quiet. Now she was really curious on what was under Felix's hood. "Maybe I'll get him to take off his hood if he ever comes to the club room..." she mumbled once more.

Lucy just smiled and turned back to face the front. She saw people beginning to flood into the room. One of her friends came up to her and started talking to her. Lucy held up the best conversation possible. She really wasn't in the mood to act positive, but she did because she also wasn't in the mood to hear her friend ask her what's wrong.
