Backstory:
The Taylor family has a long history of military service with many of them going on to become distinguished officers. However that dedication meant many of the children of the Taylor family were often made into orphans at some point in their lives. This unfortunate family tradition continued for decades, until the Rifts came about. Florian's father, Charles, died in the first waves of the aberrant attacks when a rift opened near their home one night. Florian and his mother, Violet, escaped the rift site but Florian's did so with a shattered knee and a punctured lung. It was only thanks to his mother's position in the military that he was able to receive the life saving care that he needed..

Because of his injuries Florian was always seen as being unfit for combat so his mother trained him instead in military tactics and strategy. Or she tried too. Without a reliable parent present in his life, Florian failed to meet his mother's lofty expectations. The other military families had looked to the Taylor's with respect, but Florian was becoming a stain on the family name. Violet felt she had no choice and was prepared to take drastic measure to send Florian away with the hope that he might learn his lesson and grow to appreciate what he had. That wasn't a fate that Florian was ready to accept and in a last ditch effort to earn his mother's approval he registered himself for the Vanguard program.

Because of his health many expected Florian would fail to survive the procedure and his mother begged him not to take the risk. She'd already lost her husband and couldn't bare to lose her son as well, but despite the high probability of death, Florian had faith in his own strength. In his mind this was the only way to live up to his father's sacrifice, silence the naysayers and doubters, and also earn his mother's approval. Of course he was terrified that'd he'd die, but he also had a secret hope that the procedure might heal him. So he faced the rift with a steady heart. And he survived.

To everyone's surprise Florian survived the experiment and although it didn't heal him as he hoped it would, it did give him everything else he wished for. His mother of course was first to see him after the procedure and in that moment he knew she'd never feel shame towards him again. Then came the public, the other families who whispered behind their backs now were silent. As a member of the Vanguard, Florian used and honed his strategic knowledge to the benefit of his peers and humankind. His ice powers have made him a valuable asset in the fight against the rifts and the monsters that they create.

Aspect Abilities: Cryokenesis - After testing he gained the ability to create and manipulate ice. Through this ability he is capable of creating various constructs such as weapons, shields, and filling the air with small particles of ice to lower the temperature in a small area.

Weakness:
  • Because of his health Florian is unable to use his powers for extended periods of time or in large bursts. His actions must be careful, methodical, and precise otherwise he'll over exert himself and risk falling unconscious.
  • The nature of Florian's power is such that his allies and even himself can be affected by it. Changing the temperature and such tricks put him at risk just as much as his enemy. And with colder air putting more strain on his breathing it is not somethin g he could sustain for long.

    Because of his disease, Yuzu normally has white bandages over his eyes, even so, he is able to walk around as though he can see right through them. Underneath the bandages, his eye color is abnormal due to how it is a mixture of all sorts of colors while in the center of it all, his pupils are shaped in that of a star and instead of being black, they are white. His skin tone is also very pale, while it is not completely white, it is devoid of much of its original fair color.

    Personality
    Even while his condition means he is expected to be seated in a wheelchair or in his hospital bed a majority of the time, rather than be upset or lose his touch with interacting with others, Yuzu is actually very kind. While he may not speak often nor be the type to openly go up to someone to speak with them, he is more than friendly enough that he would enjoy spending his time getting to know people and developing friendships however he can. Yuzu is the type of person to risk or give his own life to save a friend if needed. This would all be very difficult to believe when he is given a mission by the higher-ups, as during times of rest, he might be a gentle and kind individual, but during a mission, his demeanor changes to one of seriousness and almost cold. While he will still be the type to give up his own life to save his friends, if he is in a squad and those in his unit are strangers to him, he will not hesitate to let them perish for the sake of the mission.

Backstory: Comfort was a luxury that could barely be afforded to Hikari growing up. She knows nothing of her birth parents, being raised in an orphanage in a costal city with a bustling trade port. Though wealthy as the city was, the trade revenues made rarely say its way to benefit the poorest and impoverished districts of the city, which included the district where Hikari's orphanage was. With the alternative being to go throughout most of the day, if not the week or month, hungry, Hikari lived as a street urchin for most of her youth, getting by on whatever pocket change she could swipe off some passersby in the crowd or successfully beg for.

Hikari wasn't stealing and begging for just herself either, sharing some of the food she bought with her gains with some of the younger kids at the orphanage. Of course, living such a precarious lifestyle carried with it a lot of risk. While she was still a kid, there were countless times where she had run ins with the law when things didn't go her way, returning her to the orphanage with nothing more than stern warnings and reprimands from both the police and orphanage keepers. As she got older, she no longer had the luxury of relying on the excuse her childhood to shield her from more severe punishments, so she took it upon herself to learn how to fight, sparring with some of the people her age around the orphanage and further honing her skills whenever some thugs decided to start a street fight with her.

When the Rifts began appearing around the world and some Vanguard had been formed, Hikari barely paid any mind. Reality could tear all it wants, but if you're still starving it doesn't really matter either way if it does or doesn't. That was until one day where she travelled a little far out from the city to see the countryside with a few friends from the orphanage. Unbeknownst to the group, a rift had opened in a nearby village and a stray Aberrant from which spotted them. Of the 5 that ventured out that day, only 2 managed to return.

After the attack and seeing nothing to lose, Hikari volunteered herself to undergo the tests with the Rift, not really expecting the powers that be to actually choose her given her track record with her hometown's police but, to her surprise, they did. The electricity powers she gained after undergoing the experiment proved to be effective at dealing with the Rifts' monsters, but found to only be practical at close ranges at moderate intensity after many combat tests to see what the limits were to Hikari's powers until she started to cough up blood and pass out from the strain.

Weapon: Steel quarterstaff

Aspect Abilities: Electrokinesis - Hikari has the ability to manipulate electricity and generate moderate amounts of electricity on the surface of her skin. She often uses this ability in conjunction with the steel staff she wields to deliver her electrical attacks to Aberrants and Infernos in combat.

While she does have the ability to shock enemies from a distance using her electricity, that is not something she does beyond a dozen feet or so, as the instability of her electricity powers increases exponentially with the distance, becoming a dangerous hazard to friendlies around her as well as putting physical strain on her body. Her electrical output is limited for similar reasons as well, as creating too much electricity can pose great harm to both Hikari and her allies from misfires.

BACK STORY
Born in the southern provinces, far from the heavily populated areas like Eldralis, Garth was the third son of the Arcwright family, poor farm workers in service of a rich plantation owner. Part of a very large family, like most of the other families working the fields, the Arcwrights had been living in this part of Vaelora for many generations, perpetually stuck in the poorest class. As such they had been exploited by rich merchants who had left the city to live the pampered life of running a plantation.

While initially seen as just another child ready to work the fields, Garth would prove exceptional with his physical abilities, such as double-jointedness, amazing equilibrium and balance, and manual dexterity. These natural gifts caused Garth to develop a superiority complex, viewing himself as better than the other Arcwright children. Dreaming of leaving the plantation, Garth would get his chance to when a traveling circus stopped in the nearest town to where Garth lived.

Convincing his parents to spend some of what little money they had to go see the circus, Garth would approach the owner of the circus and request a job. Given his dexterity, Garth would be hired by the owner to train under the acrobats. Abruptly leaving his family behind, Garth would travel with the circus across Vaelora. After a few years of training, Garth would become a proper acrobat himself, soon reaching the status of one of the main draws of the circus. It seemed like Garth was on top of the world.

But he was ignorant to the troubles of the world around him, ignoring the rampant openings of rifts. By the time Garth was in his twenties, the owner of the circus was getting elderly, seemingly ready to retire. Garth viewed this as a chance for him to take over the circus, greatly increasing his wealth. But before Garth could act on his plans, a rift opened up not far from where the circus was performing. Before anyone was the wiser, aberrants overtook the performance, slaughtering many.

Garth himself would flee, leaving his fellow performers to be killed. By the time that a calm returned, the circus was in ruins, only a few people surviving. Feeling himself a coward, Garth would abandon any efforts to run the circus. With nowhere really to go, Garth considered heading back to the plantation, begging for his job back. But then something snapped in Garth, a need to not be a coward.

With this newfound determination, Garth would enlist in the Vanguard. Going through the exposure to the small rifts, Garth would be one of the lucky few who developed powers. In a cruel twist of fate, Garth would find himself working with plants again, as he now could control them. But gaining these powers was only one half of being a member of the Vanguard, as Garth also undertook combat training, becoming proficient with knives. Now Garth finally feels ready to fight the aberrants and infernos and defend Vaelora.​

ASPECT ABILITIES
Chlorokinesis: Garth has gained the ability to develop a psychic connection to all plant life on Vaelora. By focusing on a particular nearby plant, Garth can make it rapidly grow and control its movements. He can do things like creating vines to ensnare enemies, create a wall of barbed plants, or grow a much needed medicinal herb.

The downside of this connection is that Garth’s mind can get overwhelmed when surrounded by a lot of vegetation. Also the more growth or movement that Garth causes, brings more stress and weakness to his body, which can leave him defenseless.​

  • Acrobat: Garth is a professionally trained acrobat, having spent years working in a circus. As such he is very nimble, flexible, and steady. Using these skills, Garth can easily jump around and stay mobile while in combat.
  • Knife Fighting: Since joining the Vanguard, Garth has been in combat training. Focusing on his natural skills of dexterity and mobility, it was decided that Garth would train with dual knives. Now able to use them in close combat or by throwing them, Garth can hold his own up close or at range.

Backstory: Unfortunately, Sora’s story was painfully familiarβ€”her family was killed by an Inferno. But in her case, the Inferno was her mother.

Every day, the acrid stench of burning flesh haunts Sora, mingling with the echoes of her father’s and brother’s screams as they are consumed by flames. She was there, standing outside, frozen with fear. A coward, she tells herself. If only she had done something. But what could she have done against such devastation?

It started like any other day: Sora woke up, ate breakfast with her family, then left to run errands for her motherβ€”groceries and medicine for her asthma. When she returned, she caught a glimpse through the window. Her family laughed together, unaware of the horror about to unfold. Her mother’s face twisted, contorted into something unrecognizable. Then, she ignited.

In a flash, the flames devoured everythingβ€”her family, her home, their history.

Sora stood across the street, the groceries slipping from her hands, scattered and forgotten. She couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe. Her instincts betrayed her. Fight or flight? She flewβ€”rooted to the spot, paralyzed by terror as her world burned before her eyes.

For years, Sora stood between the cusp of converting to the Holy Sol Temple, for she loved her mother, and she often struggled with how the Vanguard eliminated her as a threat. However, she also knew that the Vanguard existed as a necessary evil, for it was better to eliminate the Inferno rather than allow more lives to be lost.

In fact, Sora often thought of how she ran so hard that day, away from what was once her mother, away from her neighbors, and her friends, who were all consumed by the flames while the sky still burned a deep crimson pink and violet as the sun set in the distance. Not very many lives were lost that evening, and there was a comfort in knowing that the agony she felt towards her mother running rampant was dealt with so swiftly. Maybe if she had the means to, then she could have ended her suffering just as fast.

Thus, she joined Vanguard in hopes to make up for her losses.

Weapon(s):
Tempest Gauntlets
  • A pair of gauntlets (gloves) meant to help her with her wind powers, allowing her to strike with more precision; taking away from the nerve damage in her hands. With these, she could punch through fire or use the gauntlets to generate concentrated blasts of wind that knock the Inferno back for example. It is a part of the suit provided to her by The Vanguard.

Aspect Abilities: Aerokinesis - After testing, she gained the ability to manipulate the wind and control the air temperature. However, she is at a medium level without her gauntlets, and her disabilities can limit her.

Weaknesses:
  • She has asthma, so when she overexerts herself in a battle against the Inferno, it negatively impacts her ability to fight in combat even more than it had initially been, as she struggles with breathing through dust, smoke, and dry air. The more she utilizes her ability, the worse it can get for her.

  • She also struggles with nerve damage, so her body responds in a lot of different ways that can either distract her in battle or make her a difficult person to rely on in a fight against the Inferno. This is a result of the testing she had undergone in the rift.

Backstory: Much of Jackson's history is a mystery, and the truth depends on the day you ask. Sometimes he claims he was a performer who went by the name "Outstanding Jack," though his lack of talent for singing or dancing tells a different story. Other times, he says he was a chef or even a member of some royal family. Whether he's lying or just can’t keep his story straight after a drink is anyone’s guess. Thankfully, his file contains what should be the facts.
Jackson started out as a mercenary for hire, taking on any job that paid well enough. He and his brother, Julian, were an unstoppable duo, handling everything from hit jobs and thievery to information gathering. Their clientele ranged from the lower class to the wealthy elite. For a time, life was goodβ€”they lived like rockstars, never worrying about the future or the consequences of their actions.

That all changed when the rifts began to appear. Their jobs became riskier, and their usual contacts stopped reaching out. With the world on the brink of collapse, people abandoned their petty grudges, drying up the demand for dirty work. Desperation forced Jackson and Julian to take jobs that brought them closer and closer to the monsters emerging from the rifts. These jobs often involved retrieving valuables from sites ravaged by infernos or, worse, attempting to eliminate the creatures themselves. Without proper equipment, the odds were stacked against them, but somehow, they managed to surviveβ€”most of the time.

Then came the day Jackson learned the hard way that infernos didn’t just come from prolonged exposure to rifts. One fateful morning, he woke to the sound of crackling flames. Rushing to Julian’s room, he found an infernoβ€”and no sign of his brother. What followed was a brutal fight, leaving Jackson injured but victorious. Yet, there was no triumph in his victory. In the inferno’s final moments, it spoke, and even through its twisted voice, Jackson recognized Julian’s.

Years later, Jackson was approached by Vanguard recruiters while drowning his sorrows in a bar. They saw potential in his history, and Jackson saw an opportunity: a chance to get back at the monsters that had taken his brother and maybe find peaceβ€”or a fitting end. The experiments he endured to join the Vanguard were excruciating, and his newfound abilities were no less painful. His first attempt at using them left his skin cracking and splintering. But mission after mission, he adapted.

His comrades often said Jackson had a death wish, charging headfirst into danger with little regard for his own safety. He fought recklessly, always with a grin and a sharp quip to lighten the mood. At the very least, his antics were entertainingβ€”even if they bordered on suicidal.

  • Self SklirΓ³titaskinesis: Jackson’s ability allows him to harden his body into a resilient, stone-like form, adapting to the damage he sustains while also being able to deal it back. He can still feel pain while hardened, and if his armor fully cracks or chips, it causes immense pain as it is essentially his own skin breaking apart. Prolonged use leads to visible cracks in his hardened form, signaling his limits and weakening his defenses. After deactivating the ability, he is left physically drained, with muscle fatigue and soreness in the areas that hardened the most.

  • The cursed healing factor: Jackson’s body possesses an accelerated healing ability, allowing him to repair flesh, sinew, and bonesβ€”though not without limits. Fatal injuries remain fatal, and it’s assumed that lost limbs won’t regenerate. This ability has enabled him to bounce back from physical punishment that would leave most Vanguards sidelined for months. Backstory: Tara lived a life of risks, she lived near but not too close to Eldralis to lift suspicions if her actions got noticed. She would sneak into the highly populated areas of Eldralis, almost like overly populated tourist destinations, and pickpocket them. Big, small, old, young, she didn't care who you were as long as your pockets looked fat. At first, she would just do it ever so often, afraid of raising suspicion or getting caught. As months went on, she got better at it, knew how to distract them just enough so she could wiggle out their wallet without notice. Then it became an everyday thing, it almost being a drug to her. It was adrenaline fulfilling. She liked to see how many things she could snag from them before they noticed, if they did, she just ran off into the busy crowd giggling like it was a silly children's game. She never realized the dangers of what she might find in someone's wallet, or purse, or anything for that matter.
That is until she found out about the riffs, having been so out of touch with society she hadnt heard about them until she found a letter tucked away in the bottom of some ladies purse. They spoke about how they had to get away from their city, too many riffs had opened up and too many Infernos were wandering around, they said they were scared to even leave their home. Tara couldn't tell if this person was just saying stuff or possibly writing a novel, so she brushed it off. About a week later, Tara ran into one herself. It was tall, and had horns the size of her forearm. She couldn't believe what she was seeing, was this the creature the person in the letter was talking about? I mean it seems sca-

Then, it stops. All of it stops, she turns around hesitantly and is face to face with a man who seems to be wearing some kind of armour with red glowing eyes. He told Tara that he is someone called a β€œVanguard” And is here to protect civilians from the creatures like the one she just encountered .
From that point on, Tara was determined to protect others from Infernos just like that kind Vanguard was to her. She later found out she could enlist to be one herself and that's how she got where she is now. (With a little occasional pickpocket..)

Backstory:
Eve had a completely normal and peaceful life. She lived in a bustling town with her father, mother, and older brother. Her father owned a bakery which the whole family helped out with, though most of the time it was her brother. Despite everything going on with the rift her family was very blessed not having to deal with things like that...until one fateful night. Eve was coming home late one night from the forest. It wasn't usual for her to go into the forest to pick berries and such but this one particular day she ended up sitting by the pond one warm afternoon and fell asleep by it. By the time she woke up the sun was setting. On her way home she couldn't help but get a strange feeling like she was being watched but no matter how many times she looked around she saw no one. Then suddenly two men jumped her and knocked her out. When she came to she was in a dark room chained to some bed. She looked around and noticed she seemed to be in some lab. It was one of the underground labs where experimenting of powers was done. When they realized she was awake men in lab coats came over to her held her down and made sure the chains that were tied to her ankles and legs were tight. Then one of them started to push her to what look like a portal. He then backed away and stood with the others and watched. Suddenly she felt incredible pain all over her body inside and out. She screamed it was unbearable she wanted to tear her skin off but the chain restraints held her back. Then suddenly her eyes changed from green to yellow and they started to glow, her body started to grow taller and bigger along with her muscles, grew fangs, silver fur grew out everywhere on her body, and her face shifted into that of a wolf. It was a slow and painful change and when it was tone she had turned completely into a wolf and then she blacked out.

When Eve came to she was on the ground passed out and her body was sore all over. Her vision was a bit blurry at first but when it cleared up she noticed men and women in uniform staring down at her. They tried speaking to her but she could hardly understand what they were saying her ears were ringing and her mind was hazy. She sat up and noticed dead bodies around her except for one who looked terrified. Eve then went to stand up but when she tried she got dizzy and once again passed out. Once again she came to but this time she was in a bed and what looked to be a hospital room. She felt much better than she had the first time but now she was starving like crazy. Suddenly a nurse came into the room, probably to do a daily check, when the nurse noticed Eve was awake her eyes widened seemingly surprised, and went to get someone. Eve had been in a coma for a month and they were almost convinced she might not wake up. Eve was told what had happened to her and the fact that she was now currently in the capital. This ability of hers could be very useful but also dangerous. So she could be watched over properly and have her power put to good use she was now forced to stay in the Capital and join the Vanguard whether she wanted to or not. Eve's now peaceful and normal life was changed forever and there was no going back.

Eulalia is capable of ionic manipulation. An intense power that requires a high degree of meticulous planning. Initially, Eulalia's powers were unstable and consequentially caused a high degree of radiation in the country-village she was raised in. Her hair, which has grown quite long, is also known to glimmer as a result of her powers. Her eyes are also known to do the same but in a spectrum of blue.

Eulalia is capable of disrupting ionic elemental powers, and thus is seen as an invaluable resource for the Vanguard against the Infernos. However, there is a strong caveat to this: as if she loses control of her own powers she can, in-fact, strengthen the powers of the Infernos given their powers are heat-based. That said, her enchanted double-edged spear serves as a receptacle for her powers and allows her to cause a iridescent white glow to them once her powers are concentrated into their blades - and even, at-times, not only glow but produce white flames that also may produce a cosmic-like pattern to envelop inside the flames.

Eulalia is only able to shoot small balls of these flames, as well. However, the method of what they do upon landing can either injure or boost the powers of her target. If one utilizes heat-based magic, she can actually boost their powers with her own. If she is not in control of her powers, though - the opposite effect can also happen.

It is important to distinguish whether Eulalia is in control of her powers or not, as well - as if she does not carry around her vials (see below) and is not currently wearing her pendant (see below) she can quickly start to lose control of her powers. She also suffers from Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder which can also, once triggered, absolve her current awareness of what may be happening and consequentially serve as the very same catalyst.

If Eulalia uses too much of her power, she will also start to enter into her Glimmer Form (see above). Given the strength of her powers, using it too much can cause Eulalia to begin to distort at an anatomical level and literally be torn apart if too much of her powers are used and also produce higher amounts of radiation. However this same form will still activate if she uses a greater amount of her ionic powers. After she enters into her Glimmer Form, she will begin to become transparent and blend in with the ions and light around her and fragment into obscurity.

Her Glimmer Form can be described as ethereal. She literally embodies the stars and enjoys slowly emitting her powers during the night. During the day, she embodies the same pattern but in a warmer range of colors. Staying in this form, however, can cause small amounts of radiation to emit when she is not wearing her Pendant.

Her form, given how it requires her to manipulate the atomic structure of her own body, can cause pain to herself.


Personality

Eulalia, as mentioned above, suffers from Depersonalization-Derealization Disorder. When it is triggered, Eulalia feels she is observing a playbook she is not part of which can cause not only a stressful amount of cognitive dissonance but spiral her powers out of control.

When she was younger, she had mostly no control over this. But once meeting Shanta and later Kornelius, Eulalia (not known as such at that time) was able to slowly start to better understand herself and the world around her, and even grow into her own person and discovering that she wished to live as a woman versus a man. Though seen as odd initially to Shanta and further comrades, it was generally accepted. To Kornelius it was interesting, as it was not something he had come across before. As such, he oversaw her transition.

Eulalia was able to develop into a patient and eloquent woman. Yet, she had always had an awkward time interacting with those around her. As such, she developed a quiet yet observant personality. She is actually eager to help those around her, and does carry with her the shame of her previous actions and thus PTSD from it which serves as the catalyst for her disorder.

She has also become aware of the chaotic nature of her powers, and also wishes to control them. However, Eulalia is also highly trusting of the Vanguard for what they have done for her - and thus has become quite easily manipulated by them. She, herself, can be seen as quite pure to many others, though.


History

As a child, Eulalia was not... Eulalia. No, she was known by another name up until her teenage years. But her home life was that of monotony. Nothing too significant ever occurred until the development of her powers. What once started as games eventually grew into something far more sinister. Yes, sinister to the point discord ravaged what she could once call her hearth. A village, named Everfall, was suddenly gone. Burnt, decimated - whatever adjective could best describe the depravity Eulalia now found herself surrounded by. With her eyes widened and her knees cradled, she was the only child of Everfall to survive. No-one truly knew what happened except Eulalia. An explosion, perhaps? Yes, but the cause? That could not be determined.

The remnants of Everfall couldn't be accessed either once Eulalia began to wander about until she fell unconscious due to starvation. She nearly met death in its' coldest embrace, but found herself in a bed with a pendant around her. Eulalia couldn't understand what had occurred as a child. She could not remember. She barely felt she was even truly alive and was but a wandering ghoul.

But she was assured by a woman named Shanta that was far from the case. She was a kind young woman to Eulalia, and was quick to adopt her. Why? She could not bear to understand, but she found herself in a new town. A capital, in-fact, by the name of Eldralis. Once she regained her strength, the child began to follow Shanta around on her duties. She met stranger, after stranger, after stranger with all their unique peculiarities. Their names, though, she could hardly remember.

At times, she would be told to use whatever powers she had. She couldn't understand how they were unearthed, nor where they came from. She simply could command enormous strength at her fingertips. Controlled, of-course, by the standards set by Shanta's pendant that eventually began to bring a sense of serendipitous serenity to Eulalia which allowed her to grow into who she is now.

Her teenage years were full of training. She hardly had time to makes any friends or even socialize. Hell, she was considered a freak by many just by how her hair glimmered in the sunlight and her growing fascination with the stars. She did not believe she had any home where she was, and that her home was with the stars. Or was it?

Regardless, Eulalia eventually came to understand she felt more comfortable as a woman. Through the confines of her own vocabulary and etymological knowledge did she eventually decide on her name. Her surname was already decided, yet she knew no other carrying a likewise surname. She was the only Wendelle.

She grew into a fine Vanguard, regardless. Whether reluctantly or not she was now a soldier for them against the monstrosities she faced. They were called Aberrants, or the Infernos - walking fires that somehow Eulalia tamed. Not always, unfortunately - as Eulalia could be deemed responsible for adding to the strength of some of them.

Even today she does not fully understand her powers, yet continues to be watched by the Vanguard. She was told, after-all, she had promise. She was told she could single-handedly eradicate entire civilizations if she so chose according to Shanta. But the cost was too great, she was cautioned. That she would return to her journey of death. One she intimately knew, as it was one of the first memories she could still recall from her adolescence.


Acquaintances

Shanta Regula: At a younger age, Shanta met Eulalia (then known by another name before discovering herself) and witnessed the unstable environment that served as consequence from Eulalia's powers. Being that she is capable of muting other powers, herself - which even then took a high degree of concentration to help Eulalia - Shanta is the reason Eulalia was able to thrive as her own person. She also is the person who gifted her a pendant that allowed for her to further regulate her powers.

Kornelius Mathera: An Eldralisian scientist who worked closely with Shanta & the Vanguard to study Eulalia (then known by another name before discovering herself) and her ionic powers. Kornelius was the one who suggested she carry around the concentrated salt & enchanted natural spring water vials to regulate her powers which effectively worked. He was also the one who enchanted and fashioned Eulalia's double-edged spear. He also oversees her transition.

Eve Nightheart: The two are quite fond of each other. Sharing likewise hobbies and even a likewise personality, Eve is sometimes seen as a sister by Eulalia.


Notable Items

Star-Shaped Pendant: This Pendant regulates Eulalia's powers by sucking them into the pendant and carefully releasing said magic away from itself and who it is bonded to (Eulalia) in controlled amounts.

Concentrated Salt & Enchanted Natural Spring Water Vials: When Eulalia's powers are used too much, she consumes the materials within these vials to stabilize her powers if her Pendant does not do enough.

Enchanted Double-Edged Spear: Her Spear allows Eulalia to concentrate her ionic abilities to its' blades - which once striking her opponent can cause concentrated amounts of radiation and serious burns.

    Appearance
    Gio is short and leans on the skinnier side of life, some might argue too skinny and doesn't appear to hold much strength. While that is true to some extent, he is still more athletic and toned than your average population due to the training he had to go through (and did end up being on the lowest end). What he lacks in pure brute strength, he makes up for in agility and speed. He has fast reflexes and a lot of endurance, while he cannot physically beat someone up, he can outlast them in a long race any day. A lot of this build is hidden under simple clothing when he isn't forced to wear the suits, does not like anything too body-conforming, and prefers to be comfortable rather than look nice. That's not to say he can't dress up, like going to a nice restaurant, but he would do everything in his power to simply not have to do that.

Distinguishing Features: What makes Deacon stand out the most is his size and bulky physique from a lifetime of work. Another feature would be a burn scar running along his left shoulder and up the side of his neck.

Backstory: Born to a family of farmers, Deacon was raised in the countryside. From childhood, he was surrounded by a loving home and a large family, being the fourth child out of seven. Along with his parents and siblings, other relatives always surrounded him, making him never feel alone and value the importance of family and unity. Living in the countryside and farm meant Deacon had always had to pull his weight, working, sowing, digging, lifting, and whatever else his father asked of him. It was hard work, but Deacon loved it, the sense of a job well done and a satisfying view of healthy animals and rich crops. He was always proud of his home and his family, the years of hard work and family making a peaceful life. However, into his late teens, Deacon began to feel as if there was more work that needed to be done outside of his home. Important work. Wanting to set a goal Deacon began to look outwards, learning of the world outside his corner of the world. He was familiar with Infernos and Rifts, but only to the extent he heard from his parents, older siblings, and other family members. With his focus only on his work on the farm and family, Deacon felt shocked at just how horrible these things were. Infernos, Rifts, Aberrants, incidents, and ongoing fights. A sense of responsibility filled him the more he learned, the values and beliefs he's learned from his life calling him to step up.

At 18, after long talks with his father, Deacon left his home to enlist in the military. Passing basic training was a breeze for Deacon, but he'd never admit it due to his humble nature. From there he would serve in the army, his role as a heavy gunner and mechanic within the motor pool. There was a new challenge to his work and new responsibilities he met head-on and with enthusiasm and determination. His time served in the military was an eye-opener for him, seeing so many new places and individuals. But what would stick with him was his first encounter with an Inferno. It had happened so suddenly, when he was working in the motor pool, the day coming to a gradual end with no issues. All of a sudden, the motor pool erupted in chaos, one of his fellow soldiers having suddenly combusted into flames, a chilling howling and sickening smell of smoke burned into Deacon's memory. That night the Inferno went on to kill three men before it was taken down and eliminated by a team of Vanguards responding to the incident. Deacon had sustained an injury along his shoulder and up the side of his neck, but as he was being looked at by medics he watched the Vanguards do their duty, his interest piqued. A few weeks later Deacon had managed to secure a chance for him to join the Vanguard and after the test was on his way to join his new team.

Weapon: Deacon is armed with a customized chain gun and a customized riot shield that can expel an intense electrical shock if needed to deal with close enemies.

Aspect Abilities:
Intense strength: Though Deacon's natural strength due to his lifetime of work was already impressive, after the test he is able to increase that strength tenfold. Though he can utilize his enhanced strength, Deacon has found out that it can be a strain on his body if pushed too far. There have been times when he fractured bones and tore muscle. These abilities are still fresh to him, so Deacon is still feeling out just how far he can go with this.

Earth Golem: After unlocking his enhanced strength Deacon discovered his ability to manipulate earth and rock. This ability makes him the perfect defensive fighter, being able to mold his limbs and body in hard rock, even being able to encase his legs in tough stone, making him a solid wall with his shield. The drawback to this ability is that it makes him much, much slower, making him an open target for faster enemies. Though he can cover his body in rock, it can be chipped away at and eventually broken through.

Backstory: Elizabeth was born in the capital, amazed by the war generals at a young age, she wanted to be just like them, despite the doubts and teases from her peers she only became stronger and stronger yet somehow keeping her small and cutesy appearance, but throughout most of her life she was unintentionally gaslit to believing that the rifts anything related to them didn't exist due to fear that she might just be running to her death if she joined at a young age, and she has also been unintentionally gotten a fear of the unknown, but at 19 she finally saw the horrors for herself, when she witnessed someone being turned into an inferno while she was staring at the outside the capital, that alone was enough to scar Elizabeth deeply but she didn't let that get to her, when her parents found out it was a bit too late since now she wanted to join the vanguard, they knew she couldn't be convinced not to, she took the vanguard entry experiment and... Nothing really changed, "they said I would change, I don't think anything did" she thought, until she ran, she felt.. faster, more athletic, but quickly realized she got more tired easily, and after a few months with her training done, she could finally be called a vanguard, but her cutesy appearance is a bit embarrassing...

Weapon: Elizabeth really listened to the "armor" part of infernos having hard skin, and what kind of weapons were used against armor? A war hammer! It's a small one but it packs a huge punch (don't ask her where she got it from)

Backstory: No one is sure about Angelina's biological parents. She was found in a ruined temple after a particularly disastrous Rift incident destroyed a small town far from the capital. The person who found her named her Angelina after the angelic statue she was found under which seemed as if it protected the baby from any harm. It was also told that the statue collapsed after Angelina was taken away. Baby Angelina was then taken into the capital and later on got adopted by a rich but childless married pair, giving her the family name.

Angelina had always been a source of headache for her parents. She didn't speak her first word until she was around 5 years old, but also extremely curious of the world around her and very difficult to contain. At one point, Angelina was taken around the capital outskirt by her father, visiting landmarks most people barely even know. This started her love for motorcycling. Young Angelina also often sneak up into her mansion library, absorbing a lot of information since her youth not just about science and math, but also of moral and philosophy even though she quickly found out the latter two was a bit too complicated for her then young brain to understand.

School years was a rough time for Angelina. She was already a rather introverted kid in her house. Putting her in a whole new situation while being separated from her parents for most of the time only amplify her awkwardness, making it difficult for her to make friend. in spite of that, Angelina managed to forge a meaningful friendship with someone who would later greatly impact her. Although she eventually developed a skill for public speech, Angelina never managed to get rid of her shyness.

Unlike most of her peers, Angelina immediately applied for Vanguard Academy for researcher branch the moment she finished her basic school education. The Academy proved to be a far more terrifying institute than the school ever was. Sure, in term of education it is one of, if not the best in the world. However, there is a clear segregation between the rich and the common people despite the academy's clear no discrimination policy. The rich flaunt their power in arrogance while the poor grew a disdain for them. Angelina, despite being considered as one of the rich girl by most other, refused to engage both side out of sheer spite and decided to simply focus on her academic responsibilities. She graduated with flying color, but the experience of seeing the worst of people left a sour taste in her mouth that would never leave her.

Luckily, employment was less of a problem for her. Due to her excellent performance in the academy, Angelina immediately hired by The Vanguard and appointed as a researcher. While she spent her first year mostly as research assistant, Angelina quickly rose through the rank. With many influential papers published under her name and being respected by her fellow scientists, it seemed like Angelina was destined for the path of researcher.

It was supposed to be a normal summer holiday. Angelina was riding her motorcycle toward a small town a bit far from the capital city. She was visiting her closest friend since her childhood, Rita. Unlike the absolute mess of a person that is Angelina, Rita possesses an outgoing, straightforward yet sociable character which Angelina often look up to both in admiration and jealousy. The reason Angelina decided to visit her friend was that Rita had married the year before to a man named Topias, but the former was unable to send her regard due to busy schedule, and intended to make it up as soon as she possibly could. It was a sweet reunion, one where Angelina allowes herself to uncharacteristically let loose and be cheerful for once. Angelina merely planned to stay for a week, catching up with life and then continue her journey.

The next day, the town were completely annihilated under the ashes of blazing ember.

There was no sign of Rift emergence that day. It was simply a random, spontaneous misfortune no one had any control of. It was also through sheer bad luck the Inferno emerged within the town's marketplace exactly when Angelina and Rita was busy shopping for dinner within the area. And as if fate has not yet done with its cruelty, the flame beast immediately headed toward Angelina, ready to devour her. Rita managed to push her away at the last second, but end up becoming the first victim of the Inferno. Shocked and terrified, Angelina ran away in panic. Somehow Angelina managed to escape and, through not a small amount of convincing, got Topias away from the town. With Infernoes wrecking havoc across the town, it merely took hours before the small town were completely flattened, and the arrival of Vanguard's agent doesn't help much aside for helping the refugee to get away into safety.

Angelina remembered a certain topic Rita had brought up before the disaster: how she wanted to be a Vanguard agent to protect those dear to her. While initially Angelina treated it as mere small talk, she had been thinking about the prospect of becoming an agent. After through a careful consideration, Angelina decided to apply for the position of agent. Her higher ups were initially reluctant with putting her away from the research department as she was too important for the branch. Eventually Angelina got accepted into the position on the condition that she'd still perform the duty of a researcher as well, a condition which she reluctantly agreed. Her first few months were rather harsh as she has no knack for combat. However, through rigorous training and sheer willpower, Angelina survived and thrived within the department, and with her power over shadow she helped many other in their struggle against the Rift while continuing her research.

Weapon:

-"Sleipnir" - A large motorbike designed to sustain huge amount of pressure. Its front part is designed to pierce through Aberrants and Infernoes

-A pair of white and black tonfa with extendable and retractable blade on the short end.

Aspect Abilities:

-Umbrakinesis - Angelina received the Aspect Ability of controlling and solidifying her own shadow. This ability comes with several notable techniques:

--Shadow summoning - the ability to materialize Angelina's own shadow as solid object. Angelina primarily use this in three different ways: summoning large spikes from the ground to impale her enemies (which she dubbed "Gungnir"), summoning tendrils to grab or swing toward her enemies ("Gleipnir"), or create a large shield to protect her ("Svalinn"). "Gungnir" is particularly strong, but only have a limited effective range and get even weaker when multiple spikes were summoned at once. "Gleipnir" is much more flexible and have better range, but much weaker for assault purpose. "Svalinn" is endurable enough to sustain multiple powerful attacks and can be summoned as a dome to protect from multiple directions, but the dome is much weaker at defending from a singular direction attack than the shield form, and have the shortest effective range. Aside for those three, she may also summon a shadow copy of herself or create various shadow tools, but those are mostly for utility purpose than actual combat practice. Note that while she can use this ability for an entire day at most, it still drains her energy. On normal peaceful work days, she can sustain her summon for about 10 hours average, and usage on intense situations may drastically reduce the duration.

--Shadow dive - Angelina may also dive into her own shadow, essentially hiding herself inside a pocket dimension of pure darkness. She can still see outside the dimension, and the shadow can freely move around bypassing any terrain, but her shadow would still be noticeable from the outside, and she'd still be harmed if someone attacks her shadow. Unlike the summoning, this one doesn't drain her energy, but she can't last for too long as the pocket dimension does not contain breathable air. Only Angelina may enter the pocket dimension, and it cannot be used to take other people into it.
