No, I don't have too many characters.
Nate
Threatening to stab him with a knife. And there you were, ladies and gentleman, the epitome of Maggie's maturity. Nate was simply too cross about her behavior to respond. It would just undoubtedly create a worse argument, and Maggie didn't understand how to not create a scene. Probably thanks to her simple upbringing, which Nate just had to remind himself. Maggie and Nate weren't on the same maturity level -- she was younger, and had been raised poorly.
She even had the nerve to call them the poor couple.
Nate was cross, but he tried to keep it to himself as they walked up to the house, meeting another couple along the way with a little girl. They were well-dressed, or... well, the wife was well-dressed. She looked like someone Nate would have interacted with long before he had taken to the simple life. Nate couldn't take his eyes off of her, until her husband was saying hello. Nate offered a polite smile, but he still was cross from what had occurred earlier.
The door opened a moment later to reveal a dude that seemed nice... until he made a comment about "blowing bubbles" and Nate couldn't believe he would say something like that first in front of a bunch of strangers, and then also in front of a child. Nate waited as the others started making their way inside, and then he followed in after. A blonde girl came downstairs and introduced herself as Blaire, but no matter how much she had tried to clean herself up, you could tell what had just happened.
After the group started pushing their way outside, Nate heard Maggie's remark and rolled his eyes before he waited a moment, pausing beside Rylan. "I'd love to blow bubbles with you sometimes," Nate said, carefully looking Rylan up and down for a moment before, with a wide grin, he walked away and after a moment of thought, decided to approach the well-dressed woman.
"Hello," he said as he walked up beside her at the gift table. They had forgotten to bring a gift as well, although that wasn't a surprise in the least bit. "Nathaniel Maddox." Nate introduced himself, holding out his hand for a very adult handshake.
