So long as it makes sense, sure. Like if someone, for instance played both Klein and one of his samurai, that would make sense. But someone playing Asuna and Klein would not click well.

Not really because isn't Sao a mmorpg type of game so it doesn't matter who's paired with who. Partners don't really have much preference, but okay I kind of got where your going.
