Too Far Gone
Welcome to Harmony, Rhode Island!
This small town has a population of a little less than 1,000 people!
Guess what? You're one of those lucky people! Congratulations! Anyways, since you live in this lovely little coastal town, you MUST be aware of the growing number of stray cat's and dog's! Wait, you don't know? Of course you do! Here, allow me to refresh your memory.
April the 13th, 2008
Most residents of Harmony know this to be the date of "The Bust". What happened on this day was a tragedy for the town like no other. Let's rewind back to the first event of that day shall we?
7:24 A.M Disturbed citizen of 1102 5th Avenue calls dispatcher to complain about a constant barking sound. This report was filed and taken into consideration, there had been numerous calls very alike in the past 6 months, however, this time it had been different. The patrolling officer reported it as well.
8:12 A.M After calling for back up, the two police officers began to scout the location of the disturbance, and found what he thought at the time was an Abandoned steak house. After beginning to search the building farther, the two officers discovered a small cellar. They later climbed down it, as the sound grew closer, the two officers discovered a closed off room with small bleachers. Later identified as an animal fighting ring.
9:46 A.M The two officers called for more back up, and now most of the base was searching this rather large cellar. After a bit of time, they found a small room. Within that room, a row of large cages was found, each one crowded with starving dogs. Later, a similar room was found, this time containing cats.
The squad had found a hidden animal mill that was popular within the town for their dog fights. To this day no witnesses have come forward to shed light on who might have ran such a horrible place, but that's aside the point.
You see, many of those animals could've been saved immediately. Except one problem, our city did not have a pound or vet office within a 200 mile radius. The unknowing officers thought they were doing the right thing by releasing all these animals out into the town. However, they discovered the affects only after the strays in the town began to multiply by a large amount of numbers, and up until now, there hasn't been anyway to fix it.
That's where Safe Haven Animal Rescue came into place.
It all started when a young couple moved into the town with the intentions of starting a new life together. The two had many pets of their own and were concerned when they discovered the problem at hand. These innocent animals were considered as pests and nuisances when all they were doing was trying to survive. The two set began to set a plan into action. They would open a Animal center in town for these animals. Not only would the center offer a rescue for these animals, but Veterinary care, animal training, and a pet store as well for those who owned their own pets.
Of course, with all great stories come problems, and this couple's problem was a lack of funds to even start on this project. Somehow, they were able to open the shelter and get permission to own such a business. Now, they would have to work to get the center growing, with your help of course!
