RWBY: The Years Before: Shadow of Grim

The question Hanne's had asked, about Obsidian's attendance at Beacon would linger in his mind. Briefly so. He folded his arms, and walked over to one of the windows in the infirmary - looking up at the clouds. "My mother was a huntress. She did nothing but strive for the security of her family, and her nation. One day, she was killed by a Nevermore. So, I'm resuming the fight in her stead."

It certainly wasn't a sunshine, and rainbows kind of answer. But it was a cause that he held with the utmost conviction.

"As for your teams leader.." He continued. "I think it should be Tate. Within mere moments of meeting all of you, she's already demonstrated keen leadership scales." He said, turning to her then. "You saw your teammate was in trouble, and immediately assigned your members specific roles to meet an objective. And that's something that can be applied to any task."

@WoodenZebra @Emperor Of Embers @Entarriance

"You both drive a good point home. I guess Tate should be leader..... after all, she is pretty keen on things. She excels in things that we probably don't. Strategy is one of those in my case." Boomer said as he looked at Obsidian. @Metaphysics

"Tch... ohoho it's a game alright. A sick, sick game, that only people on the winning side win."

His Cheshire smile came over his face, shrugging his shoulders at Boomer's statement.

"Think about it. We joke that the world conspires against us. But maybe it does. Sometimes the world does plot against you, reacting to your decisions in a painfully unexpecting way. Think about the battle we had earlier. Suppose that after trying to engage in melee, I find myself quite a long distance away from you. I might have the thought, “oh, with my luck, he won’t have a wide-ranged attack, and I can just run at him.” But it isn’t a paranoid thought at all. You, as my opponent, seeing how I’m quite some distance away, will make an attempt to block and slash or engage in melee and overpowering my strength, as to make it as difficult as possible for me to recover or to inflict any damage. Unlike using some form of irony, we do have some sort of probability here, my actions influence to, well, you, the player. The end result depends more on one persons decision, and the decisions of one player influences the other. We’re stuck in a stupid fucked up loop that we won’t ever be able to escape, because that’s how this crappy world works.”

Seeing how his mask was slipping, he coughed to recover, raising his arm above his head to stretch,

"Anywhoo... I don't have a vote on either side. I'm more of an anarchism-type-a-guy, y'hear?"

With that, Grovyn shut his book (for once!). Standing up, he brushed off parts of his clothing where dust may have gathered from sitting on the ground, but the school was as clean as a bleached dinner plate anyway. Nonetheless, nothing stopped those little habits of his.

"... sure. If you want to be a leader, go for it. I would disclose otherwise, but I don't find myself able to hold a conviction on this topic otherwise, in consideration of the contend earlier. If I did, I would say how a leader isn't a self-designated role. It never will be. Even if you're receptive of said ingenuity you've listed, it won't ever mean that you are adept at preponderance in your team. Such as now, finding yourself in a leadership position, regardless of whether or not leadership was bestowed on by natural birthright, or upon acquired skills, maybe even by accident, it doesn’t change the fact you need to manifest those prevalent skills. And…”

Going on his rather teacher-like rant, his posture and surprising strength in his voice made him seem bigger than he actually was.

Unlike his typical stoic expression, which went along with his invariable voice, he managed to smile. However, the smile held such self-discountenance towards himself, it looked rather pained. Whatever he was smiling for, it definitely didn’t seem like a fond memory, or something you’d want to recall.

“… I’m so repulsed by it, that it makes me
sick.”

His voice was low and almost menacing, even if it wasn’t directed towards anyone in particular. At least, anyone in the school.

“Just because I don't display a skill, doesn't mean I don't have it. And typically, brought up the way that I was, I’m not one to secede the decision made by some representative of ascendancy, who in this case, is Professor Ozpin.”

"At this rate... I would have already been scolded and beaten to the ground for saying such blasmephy..."

Lowering his voice, he whispered to himself something quietly, before continuing the rest of his oration.

“… if that is what you soberly believe, then go and be a leader. A leader doesn’t declare themselves as a leader, their teammates do. So if you want to be a leader, go substantiate yourself to be one. Don’t just plead for one like a rejected wolf in it’s pack, pleading for leadership. You might as well be a senseless towel boy if that’s the case.”

Finishing his stern diatribe, it was filled with the harsh opinions and criticism that he was born under. He heard those same words before, just with a more belittling meaning to it. After all, no one could hate Grovyn more than he hate's Grovyn. Walking over to the bed that Boomer got up and out of, he sat down on the side of it, opened his book, and started reading again, as if nothing happened.

Boomer looked at Grovyn, rather shocked that he said so much in so little time. "Um.... You alright? Because I wouldn't think of you as the type of person to rant like that." He said as he looked at Hannes. "Right, I did do all that, but remember that I got sore before I could win it. So don't get too cocky there, Jumpy." boomer said in a somewhat mocking tone. He was a little pissed off from the battler earlier. A flashback ran through his mind, when Daddy was teaching him how to fight. Every time they would spar, Boomer always lost, and got really frustrated. Boomer clutches his face a sharp pain surges through his head, and his tattoo glowed brightly, and then stopped as boomer growled, and his pain was gone. @Entarriance @WoodenZebra @Senshin

Laughing, he stuck his tongue out at Boomer, who appeared to be frustrated with him. However, that moment ended soon enough when he clutched his face, appearing to be in pain. Confused, he ran over to him, only to see the tattoo that he never noticed was there begin to glow, and then a growl. Taking a step back instead of a step forward, the pain that he was just experiencing seemed to have passed, thankfully, and he was fine.

"... sorry! Don't mind the things that I say, half of it is just nonsense anyway~"

Jumpy, oh boy he has a nickname now! At least it wasn't like what the faunus called him back home. Well, now that everyone seemed to have a settled nickname down, possible, probably... at least that was off his checklist. Looking over towards Grovyn, who just finished stating his long, long opinion, he now had more of a teacher-like light to him, which was extremely intimidating. Who isn't intimidated by the teachers here... well, if you don't really know what you're doing half the time, that is.

"... so... is Tater Tots or Groves the leader?"

He was still kind of confused over it. Sure, two people seemed to agree, Boomer changing his mind. Did Grovyn give up his role as one? He did mention something about being sick of it, which he didn't understand. But even saying that, he could easily tell by how he's holding his book, with the pad's of his finger pressed hard against the book, he probably was still angry over it in a sense. Is this what you define as a tantrum? Is this, literally, what it's like to see a teacher have a tantrum? Though at the same time, he did mention that he was raised the way he was.

... he probably was forced to be a leader, or raised to always be the top. So being in a situation where he has a choice whether to be the top or not must be conflicting to him.

Deciding not to ask him directly on the question, he rocked back and forth on his heels, waiting for a response.

"... I'm not. Really."

It wasn't all that wrong. He was more of the quiet, let people do their thing type of person. And if there was a scenario where he needed to be included, than he'll just include himself. But even through his short responses, he did go on long rants and have personal opinions, he just has a good habit of not letting that effect him and his studies. He always holds these little reasons to himself, which often grow and build up as he progressively changes his view on things and his opinions. It was as easy as that. But this was one of the very few major decisions that he was given and could have a choice in, and it was one that went against everything that he was ever trained in. Everything that he didn't want to be, but at the same time, it was one of the only things that he was raised to be, to a level where he found that as his only function. Given the choice to either live the only way his father told him, or be the person that he wanted himself to be, it wasn't a fun decision. Reminiscing his father's scoldings, his grip on the book got a little tighter, though he managed to keep his composure. He always did.

"... whatever you guys are voting for, Hannes. Like I said, I rather not hold a presupposition. "

Keeping his eyes on his studies, he batoned a pen in his hand, bringing the cap of it to his mouth. Pulling the pen away, his teeth would take off the cap, and still be holding the cap, while he started to write notes in between the margins on what he was reading. Might as well keep up on studies while he's at it.

With the same question being asked over and over, he got tired of it. With that rather painful memory, he lashed out at them. "I DON'T CARE! OK?! I DON'T!" he shouted. His temper issues really showed them what he truly was. Instead of being the nice guy, his is a volcano of explosive rage that had been set dormant for ages. Boomer looked at them, and sighed. "I'm sorry...... It's just..... I am very pissed off.. and frustrated. If I told you why I was hurting just a minute ago..... Pffff. Who am I kidding? Why would you understand, or even better yet; How? Do you all know what it is like to have your parents murdered by Humans....? Because I sure do.... and it hurts. It haunts me in my sleep. I feel like I should have done something when I could not, especially as a child...." boomer said as he growled, and his tattoo began to glow again. Being surrounded by Faunus, especially Half faunus children, had triggered the memories he had tried hard to bury in his mind. @WoodenZebra @Entarriance @Senshin

Hannes' apologetic expression left him in an instant. Looking genuinely surprised, before an expression of pure animosity was on his face. He wanted to shout back, but it was sure to stir up some sort of violence. And he definitely didn't want that. Instead, he just did what he could do best.

Laugh.

He chuckled, before he started laughing. It was impossible to tell whether or not he was actually laughing or forcing it, even he didn't know. But he laughed.

"... says you."

(oh dear god spare me)

That's all he said. And that'll be the only thing that he says. Leaning back against the wall, he looked up towards the infirmary window among the awkward silence. It was a rather warm night, but you could well see maybe a dot or two in the sky. It was going to get later and later, so he might as well go search for a dorm. Maybe sneak out at this hour? That was well an option. Anywhere but sharing a dorm with, well, this particular group of people. Maybe try and spur a chat with Grovyn as well? Just, maybe everyone should calm down before they can settle to sleep in the same dormroom.

But before he could, it seemed like Grovyn got up, got his bag, and straight out left the room. It's not like he could blame the guy, but huh, he didn't even have a retort to that? The silence was deafening to him, but at the same time, it had an awful lot of nostalgia in it. If he's talking about memories, why don't we all just, bring up the past and reminiscent on it?

Because that won't do you any good. Nothing can change the past. Nothing ever will. So what's the point in trying to go and prove that you've lived through hell in the past, when none of us can do stuff about it.

@Emperor Of Embers @Senshin @WoodenZebra

Not even flinching at Boomer's outburst, he still has his eyes on his book when it happened. That didn't stop him from being surprised, though, and he loosely brought his eyes away from the book to stare at Boomer, who appeared to be in mental anguish. Recalling his past, about night terrors, all of that didn't seem to ind Grovyn too much. There obviously had to be a lot of history between each individual attending the school, whether it be good or bad. Mainly the latter, apparently. But he wasn't in charge of that inductive decision.

Dead parents, huh...

Getting up, he quietly walked to his stuff just across from him, his bag up against the wall. Neatly tucking his book into the bag, he brought it up and over his shoulder. He hasn't found his dormroom yet, though maybe finding it would be good. A good, four people don't seem to know where it is, and it's already getting late. Leaving the infirmary, he made his way down the hall. If they weren't asleep, maybe he could take a visit to Silas' room and ask if her teammates are alright? Anything would be better than Hannes and Boomer shouting at each other, really.

Passing through the hallway, he identified one particular door to be the one where his stuff was. Very quietly knocking on the door, making sure not to disturb anyone inside if they were asleep.

Boomer sat on the bed, and rubbed his face. He had to relax in some way. And what better way to relax than to fall asleep? "I'm gonna sleep now.... that match did a number on me...." he said, ignoring everything else as he layed on the bed, and fell asleep as his soreness came back to him.

Silas gets up and opened the door, she shines the flashlight to the ceiling, and faintly saw Grovyn's face. "Hi. Come one in. There is no one else....yet." she said as she let him in, and turned on the lights. "What brings you down here? You wanna have a chat or something?" she asked in a giddy tone.

SirDerpingtonIV said:

Grau Kohlrabenschwarz

Grau watched her act nervously, as she fidgeted with her bright, multi-colored hair and nervously smiled. "I'm...uh.... Sorry if I am making you nervous," he murmured, a slight frown crossing his face. He stepped back a little, startled as she practically jumped out of her skin when he held out his hand for a handshake. He was about to comment upon it, or pull back his hand, when she took his hand, gently shaking it, with a firmer grip than he had expected, although it was still gentle. Her hands were simply dwarves by his, her entire hand wrapping around two of his fingers. He simply watched her, amused for a few moments.

He noticed, that as soon as he mentioned aura, she brightened up, a smile appearing on her face, and he immediately knew that she was interested in this topic. As she began to speak, he listened intently, watching her hand gestures as she spoke moving them around. She began to explain what he had suspected, that it was her semblance that allowed her to see peoples' auras. She explained that his aura was black and grey, something that did not surprise him at all, but when she mentioned that it was just like what a Grimm's "aura" looked like, he raised an eyebrow.
"Oh? My aura looks like a Grimm's?" He asked curiously, although he could not hide his concern. The fact that the aura of a Kohlrabenschwarz looked like that of a Grimm was ironic at the very least, and frightening at worst.

She suddenly grabbed his hand, pulling him out of his thoughts, turning it upwards. He raised a confused eyebrow as she traced a finger along his, making a comparison to finger prints, something that, in a way, made a lot of sense.
"Do pardon me if this is a dumb question, but are you able to see your own aura? If so, what does it look like?" He asked, leaning a little closer, wondering if he'd be able to see anything, or if she could make her own aura visible. "Also, what does the "fingerprint" of my aura feel like to you?" He asked, curious. He smiled brightly, surprised that someone had such an interesting semblance. "Your semblance must make you impossible to surprise," he said with a chuckle, before frowning slightly. "You're lucky to have such an interesting semblance you know. All we Kohlrabenschwarz have the same semblance," he explained, pulling his hands apart, a writhing, swirling mass of black shadow appearing between his palms. Suddenly, as quickly as it appeared, it was gone, replaced by a simple, average looking Raven, perched on the fist of his right hand. The bird looked entirely ordinary... Except for its eyes, which looked eerily like Grau's. The creature was silent, hopping onto Azure's shoulder. "That's all my semblance is," he admitted with a frown.

"And that adds another thing. Your aura and semblance may work well together, but without a skilled Hunter to use them, they are not worth much," he said, making a gesture between him and her. "A true Hunter must get to know themselves and their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as learning about their aura and semblance," He said with a smile.

He watched her search for her scroll, a bit confused as he saw her begin to frown at something she saw on the scroll.
"Everything alright?"
Azure Snow

Slipping the scroll back into her pocket she nodded,"Everything is fine." She ignored her scroll for the time being and looked to Grau to answer his questions. Azure shook her head,"No question is a dumb question when it comes to aura. They are complicated to understand, and all that we know still is not everything there is to know," she reassured him. "But, yes, I can see my own aura, its a dark blue, almost navy," she said looking down at her body. "But I dont pay much attention to my own, so i dont really notice it. However, everyone can see aura, even you. An aura usually shows its self when its being activated or manifested into something. Some students are so in tune with their aura, they can create physical shield when the aura is concentrated enough. And it can be seen," she tried to explain. The fox continued,"I just see it whether its activated or not." She looked up at him and eyed him curiously,"Your fingerprint?" she echoed. She inspected him, trying to think of good words to use so that he could understand. "The pressure of your aura isnt too heavy, but its not light. The pressure isnt too dense compared to some," she thought of Boomer and Asher's aura and how heavy they felt,"It also feels...scattered, its not focused on one place, its sort of...all over the place," she tried to explain," Some people's auras seem to meet or concentrate in a certain place of the body, or in their center. Ideally, our auras surround us, that is true, but some areas of the body feel heavier than others." She paused for a moment,"Your aura sort of...em...whats the word...flutters. Quicker than a heart beat but just as rhythmic," she smiled.

Grau made a comment that made the fox giggle,"Yes," she said,"It is true, I am a little difficult to surprise, but it is not impossible," she raised a finger matter-of-factly. "There are exceptions. Like most things, theres loopholes. The first one would be, distractions," Azure rubbed her arm and looked aloof,"I have a habit of day dreaming and d-dazing...dozing! Dozing off. And if i am not focused well..." She didnt even need to continue. "Second exception. I once came across a student who was able to supress their aura, which is almost like making me blind." she shrugged.

Grau seemed a little unhappy when he brought up his semblance. Azure tilted her head, confused as to why. Each semblance is unique and oe shouldnt be ashamed it because..well...no one else can do it, except maybe family. In his hand, Grau seemed to have created, or, summoned a raven for a strange black mass. She smiled, amused by his ability. She had never seen anything like it. The raven hopped onto her shoulder. Her head pulled away slightly, just for a sense of security, but with an up close view, she could see that the eyes of the raven matched its creator's. "That is amazing," she looked at Grau,"I like your semblance, and you should too. Because no one else can do this but you. My semblace is a little boring to me. Seeing and sensing auras. Ive always wanted an offensive or defensive semblance, not a supportive one," she shrugged again,"But thanks to my aura, i can track people from a certain distance, or keep a close eye on my enemies," her eyes fluttered when she smiled,"Every semblance is special," she tried to cheer him up. Grau moved on, changing the topic slightly. Azure's smile grew wider,"Youre exactly right. Its useless if we don't take the time to understand our auras and our strengths or weaknesses. Being a hunter is a long process, but a learning experience. You learn about yourself." She grinned, canine incisors showing.

First, Grovyn's speech about Tate's leadership. And then Boomer's outburst. One seemed to be rooted to something painful, and the other was clearly so. Of course, the sudden roar of Boomer had startled him. His heart had quickened, and his dark eyes had shot open from under a train of thought.

There had been truth to Grovyn's words, for sure. Appointing oneself as leader was hardly a qualification in itself. Ultimately, people will just assemble around the strongest force. Obsidian thought that still might just be Tate. Yet it would be interesting to see where the chips fell. With the sudden show of insight, perhaps it could just as easily be Grovyn.

Obsidian felt for Boomer. He couldn't imagine if he'd lost both parents. And worse, to humans just like himself. It was like a cold stone that sat heavily in his chest. Grimm had one drive only. They functioned on a basic level. The light of Boomer's tattoo caught his eye. He was curious of its function, but also sad that it seemed responsive under the weight of emotional turmoil.

Sid folded his arms, and made his way for the infirmary door. He spoke, as he passed the beds. "I'm sorry, Boomer. I wish I was speaking on the behalf of all us humans. Evil has many faces, and they don't all sport a Grimm's mask." Every word was formed in a softer tonality. Obsidian paused when he stood at the door's threshold, facing the hall ahead. "If it is your objective to investigate this matter, and bring their assailants to justice, I'd be happy to assist. I'm pretty easy to find." With that, he proceeded into Beacon's halls.

It wasn't like him to just jump into the problems of strangers. Especially personal ones. Yet where family was concerned, Obsidian understood what such loss meant. Even though their situations were vastly different.

Upon hearing Obsidian talking, he opened his eyes, and looked at him. "As much as I would like to change things, especially through investigation, it is what it is. Besides, They were arrested with massive sentences last I heard. so that is plenty of justice for me." he said, calmer than he was before. When obisidian left, he felt somewhat happier, since he was willing to help him.

Grau Kolhrabenschwarz

Grau simply nodded, seeing her ignore the contents of the scroll. Her next statement made him smile as he paid extra attention. "Well that is good; because I have plenty of "dumb" questions," he said, grinning. He nodded, thinking on her words for a moment. "Well, if anyone could find out all there is to know about aura, I wouldn't doubt that it would be you," he admitted with a friendly smile, before pausing to consider the fact that she was able to see her own aura. When she said it was navy blue, he was hardly surprised. After all, she was practically all blue.

"Huh... That's interesting." He said with a shrug, rubbing his chin for a moment as he thought. "Could someone's aura possibly change colors?" He inquired, curiously, before listening to her next few words with greater interest.

However, he only found himself confused. He did not particularly understand her words about the "pressure" of an aura, although he presumed that was simply because he knew so little about them. "Is it bad that my aura is scattered?" He asked, raising an eyebrow with concern. He didn't know how an aura could fluted like a heartbeat, or act much at all outside of protecting its user. "And how can an aura flutter? What does that mean?" He asked, mildly confused.

He simply smiled as she giggled at his comment. He simply nodded as she described how her aura detection wasn't flawless, and how she could be distracted or someone could hide their aura, something which only confused him even more. "And how would people hide their aura? Is that even possible without a semblance?" He asked, even more intrigued and confused.

The Raven sqwaked before flying off and disappearing.
"Everyone in my family has the same semblance," he pointed out. "And I cannot really use my semblance offensively or defensively. I can command the Ravens and are through their eyes, change their size and I CAN make them attack, but against a huge Grimm a little Raven is nothing more than a distraction," he explained, shrugging. He supposed that every semblance had some purpose, but some were definitely better in combat than others, unlike Azure's and his own. He eyed her canine teeth for a moment, feeling a strange distrust in his gut for a few moments, before shaking his head, not to become his family. "Why would we even be at a school if we weren't going to learn anything?" He asked with a wide smile.

"Hey Hannes you wanna go find Grovyn. You don't have to bring him back here, but finding him would be great" Tate said walking over to him,"And Mabye tomorrow we can do team bonding exorcises.Team trust exorcises. All of this would be good for us.After all we kinda just met and we had an argument.Soo I need to work on understanding you guys more.Espesially since I'm the only female on the team.Who would do that anyway." Tate said hoping her teammates would agree with her.

KURO MAYONAKA

After a bit of walking, Kuro ended up near the classrooms, the last place he wanted to be. As he didn't want to get roped into class last second, he backed against the wall and used his Semblance, fading from sight to the point of looking like a shadow. While it didn't hurt during this stage, the pain would come after he dropped it and would hurt more the longer it was active. He started to back away from the classrooms and dropped it after stopping in front of the cafeteria, clutching his stomach with both arms once the pain set in. It hurt all over, but he always just grabbed his stomach. The alert tone of his scroll went off, so he grabbed it out of his pocket and brought it out. A message from Sward, asking him to meet in the courtyard @HoneyBear\-Kat

"I agree to that. We could use some of that." Boomer said as he exhaled, and took a deep breath in. He is trying to remain calm after that explosive outburst.

Azure Snow

Azure shook her head with a smile,"I wish that were true. I just need to study harder, and Im sure there are more discoveries on aura to come." What hunters and huntresses know now could only be fragment of what aura really are. Even so, not everone can use their aura until its unlocked. Grau's next question piqued her interest,"Changing colors?" Azure put a finger to her chin, that was something she never cared to think of. She shrugged her small shoulders,"If it is possible i wouldnt know. I've never heard of such a thing. But yes, supressed auras," she moved on,"I do believe the person i encountered mentioned that it was apart of their semblance, so i dont think anyone could do it. Not only that, but some havent learned to activate their aura's yet so in a way, theirs is supressed too." Another ping from her scroll inturrupted Azure. Once again she plucked the device from her pocket and read the recieved message,"Its from the alpha," her tail wagged from Kuro's message. Calling him alpha was her canine mentality slipping through.

The fox looked up at Grau,"Im very sorry but I need to go," she gave a small and rushed bow before turning to toward the door. She ran a few steps then stopped. She looked back at Kuro and gave a small wave,"I do hope to see you around! I dont have many friends..." she regretfully admitted,"But i would say youre one of them," she gave a sincere smile, her cheeks a little pink. Shes never said anything like that before. And it felt good! Maybe socializing wasnt so scary after all...

After exchangung goodbyes, Azure hastily walked to the courtyard, as Kuro instructed. She left the arena with joy, knowing that she's made a new potential friend. But her thoughts slowly migrated toward Kuro. 'What does he want to talk about?' She looked back down at her scroll, rereading his message,'He already apologized,' she sighed. Before she knew it, the closer she got to the rendezvous, the slower her pace grew. Her smile had disappeared, and Azure felt a little more frightful than cheerful. No matter how much she wanted to turn back, Kuro was her leader, she cant say no. And she cared for him too. Not showing up would make her feel guilty, and she would never forgive herself. Besides, it was time to toughen, and face what scares you the most right?

...right...

Azure entered the courtyard. The sky was so clear, the moon's light illuminated the while in her hair and the colors of her eyes. Night time was Azure's favorite time of day. It had a solemn beauty about it. The world was still and quiet. She loved that. On one of the benches sat Kuro. Azure sighed, her head lowered and her ears were a little flat. She looked like a guilty puppy. When she neared her leader she quietly mumbled,"Hello," and plopped her self on the other end of the bench, looking away from him. She stuttered,"S-so..." her eyes glanced at him quickly then averted,"You...wanted to talk about something?" She wasnt sure what to say. Was the whole Kuro and Carter situation still fresh? She didnt want to say anything insensitve! Should she reassure him that his apology was accepted or get down straight to business. Azure's thoughts scrambled for answers.

Sticking his tongue out again, he pushed himself away from the wall, stuffing his hands in his pockets. Team exercises, huh. Well, to be a leader, apparently you have to be a mom, too. Not like he could blame her or anything. Honestly, he'd prefer a mom-leader over someone's angry hockey coach. Less stressful.

"I'm sure Groves'll be fine. We can all meet up for your, uh, exercises, in front of the Beacon Academy Statue. You guys've got to pass by that statue at least once or somethin', right? Well, uh, bright'n early, I guess!"

Waving his hand, it was already getting late, so he might as well get some shut eye. Somewhere. Though honestly, beds were the most uncomfortable thing to him. He hasn't slept in one in ages, and the closest thing that he got to sleeping on a bed was taking a nap in the chair on the aircraft carrier that brought him here. Leaving the infirmary, it was finally quiet once he left. Well, not like the awkward silence wasn't quiet enough, but it was a more peaceful type of quiet. Not a peep, except maybe the distant rustling of leaves. Which reminded him... the entire school should've been on a cliffside. Technically, the cliffside was by the campus, considering how it was used for launches during initiation. As long as he doesn't stray too far, he should be able to go and sit by the cliffside, right? Maybe a nap...

Having to pass by the main avenue, he heard a familiar voice. stopping in his tracks, he wondered if it was just him imagination again, before starting to walk. That's when he heard it again.

"You... wanted to talk about something?"

... yep, there's no way that voice couldn't be someone he didn't recognize. Moving backwards, not wanting to awkwardly get into their conversation, it seemed like going through the courtyard to the cliffside wasn't an option. Maybe this was a group meeting or something like that. He could well eavesdrop, being the little piece of scum that he is, though at the same time, these were Beacon students. They'd probably be well aware of his presence. Maybe it'd be worth a shot? Bringing himself back around towards the entrance, he silently scaled one of the few large pillars near the entrance of the building. Compared to climbing the trees and mountains, this was a little harder with less leverage, but possible with a little boost in each of his steps. Managing to climb to the top, well, like 26/27ths to the top. There was a little ledge, before another part of the pillar, as, well, fashion! As long as he didn't damage the property, he should be fine. If he's caught, he might as well wink and run, since at this height, he could pull of some amazing grinds off the side of the roof... and... well... run. I mean, aerial-anything was his forte.

"Oh... thank you. I'm just inquisitive on the physical state of your leader. Is he alright?"

Asking that, he quietly brought himself into the room. The place seemed neat enough, Feeling awkward to sit on any of their beds, he move to sit on the window-sill. The sky was nice, anyway, so at least the moonlight illuminated the room brightly, even without the help of the flashlight. This place seemed rather peaceful, especiallly since he hasn't taken one step in his dorm yet. He should find it soon... his father would scold him if he doesn't send report on his grades later. Considering how he hasn't had any classes, it should be safe, though to be sure, he needs to send some sort of indication that his studies were going well.

Snapping out of his daze, he realized that Silas was still in the room. At least she didn't seem to get into severe conflict with the rest of their team. Everything seemed to be an actual trainwreck right now, ranging from Aures' quickly oscillating personality, to Thorson's past. Clover's plead for leadership, something about it irritated him, and he wasn't sure what. Just something about the way that she acted for the role of a leader irked something in him, and it wasn't the fact that he had to, well, "step down" from a role he was never really assigned.

Could she even manage the event that just happened?

"... hm.. what do you define as a leader? In a sense that's not just having impeccable skill."

"Well..... A leader has to have a sense of what his or her team wants. If they don't like it or want it, everyone has to work with the leader to make something better. Being a leader is working with your team, as if you aren't leader. Know what everyone likes, dislikes, or the like." Silas said as she shut the door, but kept it unlocked. "I am sure Asher will be fine. He is one of the toughest Faunus I've ever met. And the only one at that....." she said as she sat on her bed, and looked at Grovyn. "Grovyn..... What happened at the infirmary? you are acting weirder than when we first met." she asked curiously, although she was not wanting to force him to talk. "Look.... I am just curious, you don't need to tell me if you do not want too." she added as she looked through her bag, and got out a picture of her and her parents as a child. Her mother with green hair, and a rather Tall and Muscular build, while her father seemed like the grizzly old man type. She set it on her dresser, and looked at it. "That is a picture of my mom and dad. They died by a pack of Beowulves when I was 2. My uncle found me under a tree, with a lot of minor injuries, and minor starvation. Little did I know he was a Huntsman.... A lesser known one too. He then raised me into the girl you're talking to now." she said as a tear rolled down her face, and looked at Grovyn. "I know this all may sound cliche.... but that is my life..... What's your story?" she asked him as she wiped her face.

What happened, huh. It's already been one day, and it seems like he's already expected to explain why he's here. Though, if she believed that he was worthy enough for her to explain, maybe it would be nice enough of him to do the favor. Leaning back against the window-sill, he set both of his hands on the sill as a support, staring up at the ceiling. Even despite his, well, "different" actions, nothing changed the fact he always appeared to have this, hollow expression on him. Staring vacantly up towards the ceiling, as if there was something interesting there, he spoke.

"... I don't remember my mom. Father always complained about her, and how they should have never met. But I never met her, and I'm not exactly sure where she went, exactly. I was an only child, too. All I know is that I had to be the perfect kid. All I really did was study relentlessly without sleep for a few days, stay up training with him. You know Aureus Academy? You probably don't, it was in Mistral. It shut down really fast. I used to be friends with a girl, who's dad worked there, but I stopped chatting with her when it shut down. I believe it was to hide his embarrassment to some degree, but I was kept inside for most of my time. Studying, hand-to-hand combat... scolded for not being brave enough... all that. I was supposed to be a natural-born leader, apparently, but that was more of something forcefully injected into me. I was expected to be the top of everything, and I was. I hated it, really, but I couldn't do anything about it. I'm not exactly fond of getting scolded or disrespecting the only person who would have liked me. Not a lot of people liked me. Teacher's pet type of guy, perfectionist, people believed I was arrogant for trying to make other theories and laws and all that."

Bringing his gaze from the ceiling to the window, the dark sky stole the saturation from his heterochromic eyes.

"... I wasn't allowed to go to Beacon. He had nothing else to brag about once I was gone. I told him I'd send him weekly reports on my progress if I could go. And here I am, stuck in the same limbo as always."

Shrugging his shoulders, he finally brought his vacant stare towards Silas, who was quietly listening to him speak.

"... the infirmary was an adventure. Originally, it appeared I was assigned leader, but someone else was desperate to be leader. There were two conflicting ideas there. One, I was force-fed the ability to be a leader, whether I enjoyed it or not. However, this was a choice I was given to make, to either deny and argue or let her be a leader. And I don't make a lot of choices like these in my life."

And he let her assume the rest. Looking back out the window, it was a nice view. Where he lived, there wasn't a whole lot for him to see. A backyard, maybe some blood whether it be from his father or him, and pavement. His house looked like it sprouted from the pavement. That's what he remembered it as, though. And it wasn't a pleasant memory.

KURO MAYONAKA

Kuro was glad to see Azure approaching him. She almost looked supernatural in the moonlight, the rays shining on her light-colored fur. He fidgeted in his seat as she approached, noticing that flatness of her ears and the limp tail. She almost looked sorry herself, but she wasn't going to be the one who was risking a straight week of detention. Like he had said earlier, he'd rather put himself at risk over his team. If anyone was going to get in trouble, it was going to be him and not them. His facial expression lightened though, to a small close-mouted smile. The timid innocence Azure generated was calming.

"Thanks for coming, Azure," he started softly. He couldn't meet her gaze, however, so his eyes drifted to his feet, followed by his head. He raised it back up, but didn't make eye contact. "I'm sorry for the theatrics earlier. You know how us boys get when we got adrenaline pumpin'...Anyways, I wanted to let you know of something...and you can't tell anyone else. I don't want any of you getting in trouble for this. Ozpin told me to talk with Curve about our little encounter in the woods, but he and I think that we should act instead of waiting. We need info on those Grimm and it's gonna take too long for the officials to do anything. I'm going to see if I can convince him and Sward to go down and check things out in the forest. The reason I'm telling you this is because you're the only one on the team I trust...other than myself, heh heh. Mel would go straight to Ozpin and Carter...same thing. I'm only telling you now because I don't want you to worry about me while I'm gone. You know I can handle myself. I'll come back, and hopefully I'll bring some info back to use for later." He let out a sigh after he was done and dared to look her in her eyes to see the shock he just dumped on her. Guilt went off like a bomb in his chest.

"Wow..... your dad sounds like a total jerk. I'm sorry, but he was WAY TOO HARD on you. You seem to have the 'Big leader' vibe in you, but you never speak your mind. Were you punished for speaking your mind? And on another note, you seem like a gentle soul. I have liked you ever since I started talking to you, one: because you listen to my rambling. Two: you are really smart, and I like that in a guy. And Three: YOU GIVE ME AN EXCUSE TO ACTUALLY TALK NERDY!" she exclaimed with glee on the last part. She admits she is a nerd when it comes to plants, but nobody wants to talk about plants, right? She looked at Grovyn, and pulled him off the windowsill into a hug. While she was hugging him, she was crushing him with her unknown strength, and bust. She loosened her grip and let her go as she saw him suffocating.

Azure Snow

"Thanks for coming," Kuro greeted. Those words were enough to ease at least some of her tension. She felt better about coming now, and the previous thoughts of turning tail and running disappeared just by what he said. He wasnt upset or angry, or anything he was fine. And thats all she wanted. He started with an apology, cant say she didnt see it coming, but she was surprised by how quick it was. Straight and to the point, he didnt linger on it. And she was thankful for that, it just meant that the whole ordeal was behind them now.

But his next words were...not expected. He brought up the Grimm again, and it was clear he actually did something about the matter when he stormed out of the dorm room. Good ol' Kuro. But something else bugged her. It could have been a number of things but before she tried to speak she's let him finish and say what needs to be said. She listened carefully, the radar dishes for ears had his full attention and so did her body language. Her body was turned toward him now, hands on either side of her legs at the end of the bench, and her chin resting on her shoulder while she looked at him with a serious look. But paying attention got a little distracting when an aura appeared on her internal radar. It was a little patchy, who ever they were, they were probably some distance away, but not too far for Azure to be able to feel it. The thing is, its not the fact that she sensed an aura in the first place that distracted her. Shes constantly feeling auras around her in Beacon from all the students. The distracting about it, was that it was a familiar aura, and add on to the attention, the aura didnt pass through, it lingered in one spot. This is where her canine behaviorisms wrestled with her human ones. The human Azure put in a lot of effort to remain focus on Kuro and his words, and she was doing a good job. But the beast with in wanted to kick into instinct mode, curiosity growing stronger, she wanted to sniff out who this was. She had an idea already. The aura was light and airy, subtle and scattered, more cloud-like. It could only be Hannes, the energetic, where-ever-the-wind-takes-him guy from before. Well at least he was on his feet if he was in the area right? Her short attention gave itself away when one ear twitched and turned in Hannes' direction. Her eyes were dixed on Kuro still but her ears..not so much. They have a mind of their own.

But that doesnt necessarily mean she wasnt paying attention. When Kuro's words had a chance to settle in, Azure's eyes had widened before she leaned back,"Oh..." you could hear the uncertainty in her tiny voice. This was not what she expected. She didnt want to go against him, but the idea of him being alone with Sward and Curve made her uneasy. Sward could easily gain her trust (maybe) but Curve would have a harder time, and currently, he wasnt doing so well so far. It wasnt just that though, she could easily talk herself into okaying the whole "Kuro and two other guys who we know nothing about" situation, but something else pulled at her heart,"So...this is not...a team effort?" she asked, pulling her eyes away from his. She didnt know what was worse, the fact that the team was going to be seperated and leaderless or the idea that three students were diving into this issue with little information, on their own. As for her question she didnt really want to hear the answer, it was more of a clarifying statement than a rhetorical question, but there was still feeling behind it. "How long do you think you will be absent?" she asked, already trying to think of something to tell Mel and Carter with out spilling the beans. That was a task in itself, Azure was an honest person, so coming up with a believable lie wasnt her strong suit.

Even through all this, she tried to look at the bright side. She'll have time to practice was little (to none) social skills she has and head into Vale to restock on dust (she ran out some time ago). She could check on Hannes' condition and make it up to Grau for running out on him the way she did. And with maximum effort, maybe she could fix what ever several things is wrong with Carter; make him more friendly! (That last one was wishful thinking) In anycase she'd have to find away tp distract herself from the constant worry that'll be looming over her while hes gone.

Mel looked around for anyone to submit her complaint on her leader's leadership... or lack there of... "Seriously... I know I could just message them on my scroll... But something this serious need to be said face-to-face with the higher ups..." She muttered to herself.

After a brief pause, and a trash can toppling over, a loud bark was heard, and a dog scampered across the path of the two. Curve relaxed, cracking his neck. "Let's just get this over with. Find the person you need to talk to. Fast." Curve didn't like looking like a fool, and although this wasn't necissarily that, he was right, he got himself all worked up over nothing. He let his closed fists rest at his side. "You lead, burning moonlight."
"Yeah, that sounds like a great idea...burning moonlight?" She questioned his choice of words as she led him into a warehouse. Inside were several crates and people moving them. They were all wearing white uniforms. "Hello, I came to pick up my package." She announced, bringing attention to her. A man came with a package the size of a boombox. "Thanks, tell my brother I side hi." She thanked before leading Curve out back into the van. "Esteban, you know where to next then Beacon."

KURO MAYONAKA

Kuro took another breath, unaware that he had been subconsciously holding it after he was done talking. He'd probably just scared the poor girl half to death, knowing how much she worried about other people. He couldn't blame her though. He himself was the same way. He observed that the petite Faunus' emotions were a mix between confusion, sadness, worry, and fear. After all, he was most likely going to be breaking what probably will be a very punishable school rule, and most likely leaving his team without supervision. Azure's sad face just made him start having second thoughts. Maybe he could just talk with the two, rather than actually go do anything...Kuro, again, looked up to meet her eyes with his own somber expression. He put a reassuring hand on her shoulder and gave her a reassuring smile, like one would give to an upset child.

"If, and it's a big if," he started to explain, "they convince me to go, then I'll just be gone for a half hour, hour at the latest. I just wanted to look for imprints or anything that would point to where those Grimm went. If it makes you feel any better, you're making a compelling argument for me not to go." He lightly shook her shoulder and removed his hand, joining it with his other on his lap. "I might just end up talking the talk, but not walking the walk. Why don't we go back to the room and get some sleep, eh? I'll sleep on it and let you know in the morning. I still gotta talk with Sward, though. Can't go back on my word. Come one." After he finished, he hopped up off the bench and held out his hand to her, offering to walk Azure back to the dorm. He would indeed have to sleep on this, but now he wasn't sure he had the stomach to go through with it.
