RWBY: The Years Before: Shadow of Grim

"... a recluse? It's not an incorrect declaration after what I've been through. So, yes, I was raised as a hermit."

Finally seeming to understand and agree with her, though, he didn't seem to budge at telling her the reason why he was raised that way. After all, he assumed that it was normal, not really getting a breather after a good, 17 years of living in solitude. Squinting his eyes, as if trying to remember, a long
hmmm came from him.

"I trained in the backyard a lot. Like, combat. And I talked to a girl who's father worked under mine, but I never saw her again after it was shut down. I wonder how she's doing.

...

Apologies, ah, does that count as outside?"

Before he could manage to finish the word outside, he heard a loud bang from the training hall, and slightly craned his neck to look into the wing that the spar seemed to have just ended, with one paralyzed against a wall and another KOed... oh.. well.. injured and frantically petting a faunus. Pointing into the room, where there also appeared to be two other people talking among themselves, he looked down towards Silas.

"Hey, aren't those your friends? Or, teammates rather."

Azure Snow

After a few pokes, his body remained in its same state,"hmm..." she moved both hands behind her back. She remained slightly bent over, her hair draping over him, eyes still fixed on his face. She didnt notice the blood on his head and arm until now, which of course, just raised the level of concern.

Suddenly the seemingly unconscious body woke up with a jolt, and immediately sat up. Azure flinched and pulled back with a jump and flattened ears. Her eyes were wide and her lips were shut tight. Her hands moved infront of her, fists tightened over her chest from the scare. She remained like this for a while, before her heart slowed back to its normal, steady rhythm. Hannes said something about his dead mother, her foxy ears turned toward him again and she relaxed. For a moment, he looked around, his eyes gathering information to remind him of where he was. Then he looked at her... Oh no...eye contact. Azure jumped a bit when his eyes shifted and locked onto hers. Now she was the one looking left to right...but rather uncomfortably. She hugged herself nervously, she didnt know what to do with herself or what to say. If she should say anything. He scooted closer with a hand reached out, and her eyes followed it. Closer and closer it grew, making her cross eyed for a moment before disappearing from her line of sight above her head. She looked at him, and the heavy weight of his hand plopped itself in the space between her ears on her head. He patted and ruffled. The tip of her tail wagged instinctively but her face had a pink tint powdered on her cheeks. What dog doesnt enjoy a good pet, but she was embarrassed to let any sign of it known. And it only got worse...."Oh my god, awww...youre so cute!"

'CUTE?!' she thought. As if the petting wasnt enough to turn her into a tomato. Cute was never a word that was used to describe her, not to her face anyway. Not that she wasnt cute, but Azure wasnt the type to think of herself in those ways. Hannes continued, adoring her fox traits and fluffy hair, and called her a "fluffball". She frowned. The frown turned into a pout and she put her hands on her hips. She wasnt a fluffball....maybe. Okay so she was, but she was a lot more dangerous than a ball of fluff. Her nose crinkled and her eyes actually looked at his with her lower lip sticking out. She didnt talk much, but she spoke with gestures and facial expressions. When Hannes said that she could probably kick his ass, she crossed her arms and turned her head to the side with her nose in the air confidently.

Two new auras showed up on her "radar" making her turn to the door and look. The shyness slowly but surely sinking back in at the thought of more strangers.

"Not necessarily. I mean outside, as in away from your home. Like going to a shop or something." She said as Grovyn asked her a question. "One of those guys is my team mate. he is my leader, an quite the badass." she said with a giggle.

Even with her flustered appearance, Hannes didn't seem to mind one bit. Nonchalantly rubbing his non-bloody cheek against her forehead, like a child would hug a teddy bear.

"Aaah so small!! It's been so long since I saw a faunus that wasn't challenging me to a duel."

And is if nothing happened, he scooted back away from her, as if suddenly aware about the sudden, well, event that just occurred. Scratching the side of his head, which didn't seem to help and ended up getting blood on his hand, he clasped his hands together, an elated expression over his face.

"Oh, sorry! My name is Hannes. And you are?"

His normal instincts kicked in, even through his dizziness and sore body. Briefly scanning her up and down, a number of analytical thoughts ran through his head at the new face.

Let's see, she's small. Really small. So that probably means that with a good enough blow you could take her out. But because she's small, speed probably makes up for it. Especially since she's a fox-wolf-dog?-fox faunus. The ears on her head probably give her a keen sense of hearing, and to make up for a lack of strength, she might have a lot of stamina and agility. Kind of like my tactics, I suppose, by using speed and agility to win instead of brute force ~ which I don't have.

"Oh... then no. Father always kept me inside to study and train. Isn't that what everyone does though?"

Looking back into the room after saying that, he was greeted with a wonderful chaotic sight of a small blue fox being patted by a man with a half-bloody face, appearing as if he's going to pass out (again) at any second, a man lodged into the wall with the inability to move any of his limbs, and two people talking among each other near the doorway where they stood, one itching for any sort of battle, and the other immediately raising his voice towards the man lodged in the wall.

"Is he the bloody one, the paralyzed one, or the one talking to the emerald-haired girl?"

He kept his place in the doorway, before recognizing the bloody face briefly, squinting his eyes. It was the same guy that blocked his hit, somehow, from earlier, as well as took his stuff. Though, it seemed like he was beat enough, so hurting him now would be against soldier's code.

"They look like they need help..."

"Not everyone is raised as a hermit. Everyone goes outside, and they see the world. They do things like shopping, eating, even making friends." Silas said as she looked at them. "The lion faunus is him." she said as she walked down to him, and tried to pick him up.

Azure Snow

She stopped looking at the two newer strangers standing outside looking in, when Hannes felt comfortable enough to nuzzle his clean cheek against her forehead. She stiffined immediately from the distraction. Her head shrunk into her shoulders, making the fur collar of her outfit rise, hiding her face a little, and her ears flattened against her head. She tilted her head a little to look up at him, the apples of her soft cheeks still dusted with pink making them have the texture and color of a rose petal. She looked back down. Azure didnt fight the coddling, firstly because shed think itd be rude, secondly because, well, she couldnt say she didnt enjoy it.

Hannes made a remark, something about how she was a faunus that didnt challenge him to a duel. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow when he pulled himself off of her. What was that supposed to mean? He moved on to an introduction,"Oh, sorry! My name is Hannes. And you are?" Boy, he sure wasnt shy was he? Very straightforward. Azure opened her mouth to answer, but her shyness choked her. She closed her mouth and looked away at the ground in submission. Her fingers twiddled with each other while she tried to gather the courage to speak to him. It took a few moments but when she reminded herself about trying to be social, she very bashfully mumbled,"A-Azure," with a small stutter. The faunus looked to side, avoiding Hannes. "Like the color..." she added, and while still looking away she pointed to her hair that was also two different colors, just like her eyes. But she specifically pointed to the blue in her hair, a gesture to go with her comment.

"Azure, that's a cute name! Wow, your hair is two colours! Is it natural or dyed? What dye do you use, it's a pretty clean group of hair you have dyed. Usually whenever I try it kinda smears everywhere and looks like I'm bleeding horribly. Like now! I have a natural red streak but I just decided to throw dye in it to make it seem more flashy. Oh, and are your eyes natural too? They're both different colours! It's unique~ I got mine from my mom and dad. I never met my dad, and I'm on this huge adventurous quest to find the brother that I apparently have! Oh, and-"

He went on a long, rather fast-paced one-sided conversation. But at least he was open, going on a variety of heavily,
heavily exaggerated topics that you could go into conversation for hours with. By conversation, questioning is the better word, considering it's Hannes. And by hours, it means Hannes can talk about said thing for hours by himself. Sure, he tended to be rather blunt and hyper when it came to new people, usually by the habit of his to create some sort of not-awkward diversion to his analysis, but at this rate his injury helped him continue without any actual, reason, other than to get rid of the pain in his head.

That only worked so much, as half-way within his rapid bantering, he immediately fell back, passed out again. Probably from losing blood, as he didn't seem to make any effort to help himself. The paralysis should have been wearing off on Asher at this point, just leaving a horribly tv-static feeling (or pins and needles but tv-static is more fun) over not his feet, but his entire body.

@HoneyBear-Kat

Following her inside the building, he looked around the massive hall... filled with a crater or two from the battle. He wasn't one to analyze people around the room, that would give him the upper hand, which was also against soldier's code. Don't just go and get the upper hand on people without a reason! Unnecessary violence was something that he definitely didn't want, so he just followed her in towards Asher, who was up against the wall. How was he paralyzed? Did he get pressure pointed? But there wasn't pressure points to paralyze the entire body, rather an instant-stun or a certain body part...

Looking towards the massive man and the green archer/sword wielder who stood near the wall, probably having spectated the battle, there probably was some little small-tournament going on here. Not anything serious, but considering the number of people inside the building right now, there had to be something going on.

"... oh. Well, I guess it's a little late for me. Your leader's... massive."

Hannes used that word again, cute. It made her brain scatter and brought a light feeling in her stomach. Her face grew hot from rushing blood. But Hannes continued, about her hair, her eyes then his parents, he went on for a while. It was a lot to take in all at once and she tried to keep up. She shook her head when he asked if her hair was natural. She did dye it, to match her eyes. Then she nodded when he asked if her eyes were natural. All natural yes, born with a genetic mutation. She was pretty self conscious about it but tried to pay no mind. Suddenly the subject to a quest he was on and....and...and? And what? Hannes had fallen unconscious again, mid sentence. Azure sighed. She didnt know if she felt worried that he knocked out again or relieved that the rambling stopped. She looked back down at his body again. Her hands folded together over her mouth. It was decided, she was worried.

The fox knelt down and sat by him like a patient puppy waiting for their master to return home. She watched him contemplating to try and wake him or let him stay there. But how could she wake him up? The memory of waking Kuro up by pinching his nose together to cut oxygen came back into her thoughts. But she cant do that, he was knocked out, he cant wake up when he wants she might just end up suffocating him. So that idea was tossed out. What he needed was medical attention. She was too small to physically carry him. She could try dragging him, but she may even be too weak for that. She looked to the two others that had just walked into the aftermath of the sparr. They went over to the giant that remained paralyzed on the ground, she assumed they knew him. Hannes how ever was not, what was she going to do?

@Entarriance

Asher's body started to tingle. He felt it and it felt like pain and numbness and nothing good. He saw Silas going over to help him while he barely was able to move his neck. "I like girls. But thank you." He said to Grovyn after hearing the compliment. Silas managed to lift Asher up a bit before he started to get some strength back in his legs. He let her help him up and stood for a second, trying to move his arms as much as he could. "The feeling is weird." He said to them to explain his spaghetti arms. Asher started to walk towards Hannes and saw that he was knocked out again. He bent down and picked up the body and he asked anyone, "Any of you know where his dorm is?" He was just going to lay him down on his bed so he could rest.

Seeing how he was struggling to move his arms, but managed to pick up the boy within a short time-span, it's safe to assume this man has a lot of strength on him, and messing with him would be the worst possible decision. Rather, getting on his good side, or at least neutral, would be the good decision. The thing is, socializing isn't something that he's particularly good at, if not already seen. Especially in a group of more than one person. Though he did directly ask a question, so maybe it would be safe to respond now?

"Well, when he stole my bag, he didn't forthwith bear it with him towards his own accommodation, but rather someone else's."

Moving his eyes in the direction of Silas, before back towards him, he spoke in the same banausic tone of voice.

"With that, we can speculate that he either he hasn't been accredited one or isn't familiar with his own. Though tending to his lacerations right now seems to be the best choice in opposition to rest, since his lesions could get infected. "

After answering his question, he brought his gaze down towards the short faunus who was sitting beside him, or at least sitting beside him from the start. It wasn't in his objectives to bring any more people, since it would be easier with less people around him, with his habit of answering questions bluntly and never returning the end of a conversation, but leaving someone behind seemed like a familiar feeling that he didn't want to remember. Walking over towards her, who was sitting on the ground, he leaned over a little bit. Pointing his thumb back towards the group about to head off to find either a dorm or some sort of infirmary, he inquired her with a blank tone.

"... you can come along if you want."

Azure Snow

To her luck the large hunter from before was able to stand and walk some. He cane over to Azure and a sleeping Hannes and picked up the boy with ease. Effortless ease. She was amazed by his strength. She remained on the floor, her eyes and head following Hannes being lifted by Asher. The large male asked for the whereabouts of Hannes' dorm, and Azure had no clue so she stood quiet.

However one of the last two that came into the arena approached her. He was tall with white hair. But there was something about his eyes....and the eyes of Hannes...hm. On another note, he reminded her of herself. Azure wore white as well, but she had a lot more blue to her theme than him. In any case his direct approach made her lean away from him a tad. She looked up and down at him with puppy eyes. He was informing her that she could follow along if she would like. The faunus tilted her head to peek at the group behind him. She looked back at the male infront of her, and shook her head slowly. It was a large crowd. A crowd of strangers at that! It was much too intimidating for her liking. But before he walked walked she reached a hand out,"Wait!" she called,"Make sure he is the okay when he awakens," her choppy speech struggled to make sense. Partially from her nervousness. "I will..." She paused, searching for the correct words and putting them in order,"check on him for later..." She nodded. Besides, it was getting dark, shed have to return to the dorm soon and see if Kuro is okay after what happened.

Boomer gets up, and limped over to tate. "Hey tate. I am boomer. Maybe we could check the teams together? I got a feeling that we might be team mates." He said as he winced as he sat on the ground a little too fast, making him even more sore. "Sorry.... My fight with Hannes made me really sore...... I need to rest... badly." he said in a pained tone as he slowly stood up.

"Then rest.Your obviously in no shape to walk even 5 feet. But I can tell you if we're teammates or not later. And it's not that I don't like you,but it's weird that your guys' auras didn't work when you were fighting.Mabye when I'm done with checking the teams I talk with the headmaster cause that's weird.Any other takers" Tate said not noticing her ears were up the entire time. That meant she was uncomfortable, but you couldn't tell because she was wearing her mask. There was also another reason for not wanting to go with Boomer, but Tate kept that to herself.

"Tell me later.... I think I will nap here for a bit.... I am so sore...." he said as he laid out on a bunch of seats, and fell asleep.

Watching the brief conversation between Tate and Boomer, before Boomer went off to... take a nap... out of all places, this definitely didn't seem to be the best. Nodding his head as a response to the fox faunus, he watched as she scurried off. Now what, he already suggested helping the guy, he walked over to where Tate was, might as well acquaint himself with someone who could potentially be his teammate, only to briefly have overheard their conversation. Their aura's not working.... is that because they're bleeding out? Because it seemed like a hurricane happened here, and that's nothing that could have been caused on just brute strength and skill alone. Well, for what he's seen at least.

"... what do you mean their aura's weren't working?"

@WoodenZebra

"An aura is a manifistation of ones soul.It bears our burdens and shields our hearts.Aura is an ability that all those with a soul can use, at least with enough practice. A person with a strong Aura may radiate bright colors when using it. Because Aura is the manifestation of the soul, it can appear very differently depending on who is using it.For example:If I used my aura it would appear purple around me.But if you used your aura it would appear a different color like yellow or something.Anything with a soul has an Aura, but Humans and Faunus seem to be the only beings able to weaponize it for their own protection.I do not know if this fact is true however.Skilled users of Aura can create their own barriers or even increase their own abilities in some way.Weapons and armor can also act as a conduit for Aura, allowing for an even wider range of offensive and defensive capabilities. It has been shown that the strength of an Aura degrades with continual use. This limits the applications of Aura in combat as, with time or heavy use, a person's Aura will decay to the point where they are left weakened or even incapacitated. Aura being completely depleted is visually represented as a colored sheen passing along the length of a person's body, indicating that they can now be physically injured. So if they were bleeding and stuff they must've not have used their auras. So either they weren't unlocked,or there's something wrong." Tate explained. (looks like I won't be getting writers block today) @Entarriance

Listening to her explanation, he nodded his head every once and a while to show his attention. When she was finished, he averted his gaze to the two injured and one sleeping ... group... that were still in a bit of limbo on what to do. She did make a point, how aura would have stopped them from being physically injured. Though at the same time, seeing how there were craters on the ground and maybe a speck of blood or two, he might as well try to draw his own conclusions.

"Maybe during battle, they used all their aura. Sure, it's unlikely, but seeing how tired the all of them are, it's conceivable that they used up most to all of it at once. It would explain why your friend over there is so tired."

Pointing over in the direction of Boomer, he folded his arms over his chest, not really sure how to continue the conversation without her response. Maybe he should start with his name? The weather? What are normal people supposed to bounce back in a conversation anyway. Looking back towards the boy who stole his stuff, he was bleeding, but the bleeding seemed to be slowing down a considerable amount compared to, well, probably when he got the injury. At least he hoped. The fox faunus seemed to care for his safety, surprisingly. So he isn't a jerk all the time.

"... Grovyn."

Managing to spit out his name, despite the full sentence that he thought he would've said got cut off by about 7/8ths of it all, at least he managed to introduce himself, even if it was rather, crude.

@WoodenZebra

"I guess you might be right, but they weren't glowing,or blocking the attacks at all." Tate said dismissing Grovyn saying his name because she thought it was a sneeze.

Grau Kohlrabenschwarz

Grau let out a frustrated sigh as he woke up late... Again. He rubbed his pale hands over his tired, grey eyes, peering around the stark looking quarters that he kept. None of his team mates seemed to be around, judging by the empty beds. "Suppose they're all busy already," he murmured to himself, climbing out of bed, before making his way into the halls, practically stumbling down towards the cafeteria. However, half way there he could hear the sound of combat, eminating from the training room. He could feel a hungry ache in his stomach, eating away at his insides like a swarm of festering maggots. He sighed, deciding to open the door anyways, entering the room, grey eyes combing over its occupants, realizing that dissapointingly, none of them were his teammates. A few people caught his eye though. A fox Faunus with disturbingly bright blue hair stood closest to him, and he wasn't sure what emotion played across his face as he entered. Faunus had never looked upon him kindly, for reasons he could easily understand. Likewise, his family didn't see Faunus kindly, or... Some of his family atleast. He tried to distance himself from those particular family members, as he saw the Faunus as human beings too, worthy of respect and even kindness, although he didn't know how to go about it. He gave the Faunus girl a slight wave, knowing his nervous look was quite obvious at the moment. "Hello," he greeted with a gentle smile. He was convinced he had seen her around last semester, but he had been too engulfed by his studies and his training to make any friends or even meet anyone at all. Now that the second semester had begun, perhaps it was time to branch out and make acquaintances. "I am Grau Kohlrabenschwarz," he introduced with a small, polite bowing motion. "And you are?"

Locke was full from eating with OJ and Sward. As Sward went off to do something OJ and Locke returned to their dorm to relax a little. Even though he tired to relax Locke couldn't get comfortable. He must not be tired enough yet. His eye was feeling a lot better and could actually open it and see again. He has had quite the day, but it wasn't over yet. He looked to his corner of the room and saw his roller skates. He used to use them to get around the city. "Hey OJ. I'm gonna go out and take a stroll. I'll be back soon." His roller gear had his emblem on his helmet, knee and shoulder pads. He then picked his skates up and rushed to the door. He put them on outside and rolled out. It's been awhile since he did this sort of thing at Beacon but was still plenty skilled enough to not fall down.

Sward waited long enough. He left and went into one of the classrooms and took a piece of blank paper and wrote a message on it asking Kuro to come speak with him later. He then left it on the ground so that Kuro could find it. Sward was a patient man but he had to meet back up with Locke and the others. As he walked out he noticed a kid on roller blades heading towards him. He recognized the figures voice. "Locke?"

"Hey Sward!" Locke was happy to run into Sward again. He can tell the way Sward was looking at his skates that he had a question. "Oh these are my roller skates. If your interested i can teach you to use them if you want to? Of course when you feel better." Sward smiled "I'll take you up on that." he two then said their goodbyes and went their separate ways.

OBSIDIAN NIGHTFALL

Obsidian was currently sitting in the training room, observing some of the combatants as he leaved through a text on Grimm. He recognized one of his teammates. The one called Grau. A casual wave would be the only gesture he was inclined to make, as the other seemed to be in the midst of conversation. He didn't really know him that well. But from what he could discern, the both of them were dedicated to their studies.

Sid left the text sit open, on his lap. He'd reached a chapter on Nevermore, and wasn't particularly interested in reading this bit. Sid has studied this particular Grimm extensively, to the point where the chapter could simply unravel within thought alone. He simply scratched his chin, and allowed his attentiveness to fall into the spectacle of clashing wills.

Her next question jerked him out of his thoughts, and he turned his head to maintain eye contact while she asked it. Bobbing his head a bit, he faced forwards and grunted. "Sward is a very good friend. We came from Vacuo together. As long as I'm paired with him, I don't care who else is on my team. However, we have an incompitent leader who can't shoot the broad side of a barn without going completely laser-happy." Curve said nothing about OJ. He didn't have an opinion about him yet. And he doubted he would. Curve let go of the handle he was holding onto and placed his hands on the back of his seat, stretching a bit. "So. Where else will we be going tonight? I assume the nature of these errands isn't anything other than picking up a few personal items. I don't know the area, I hope you'll pardon my asking." Curve was really trying to figure out what exactly Ivory needed him along for. She didn't seem like the kind of person to need to bring muscle along, but you never knew.
"That's nice to hear...I guess?" She said as she watched the surroundings go by from the window. "Sorry to hear about the leader...I guess there's some people like that in the world." She added. "Just one other, you don't have to join me for it, I just have to talk with someone...tell me if you ever grow hungry."

Seeing how she dismissed his name, whether she didn't hear it or didn't bother to hear it, it wasn't like he was going to repeat it. It was already weird enough he was talking to someone. Scanning around the room for anyone that looked like they had medical experience for the idiot that was still knocked out, he brought his eyes towards a lone man reading against the wall, a book open on his lap. Surprised that he didn't notice him earlier, it wasn't a face that he recognized, anyway.

Moving away from Tate, he walked towards the man sitting in the corner of the training room. How did he not notice sooner... though he did seem to blend in the walls. Not much of a presence to him, somewhat like himself. He didn't exactly want to deal with the current situation at hand, nor anyone right now, but the fox-faunus seemed well concerned about the boy, and it would feel like breaking some indirect promise if he didn't at least try to help.

Even the dumbest and reckless of people can still get some affection, huh?

Standing about an arms distance away from the man reading. Grovyn wasn't exactly nosy, though he couldn't help but draw his eyes towards the book. Maybe it was something that he read before? He couldn't tell precisely what the book was about, but it seemed to be about, well, a certain type of Grimm. Maybe it was studying up on the types and varieties of them, and strategies to beat them? He did own something like that at home... ah, now was not the time to be thinking of something like that. Awkwardly clearing his throat to speak, he just had to speak like he normally did, right...

"... do you know where the infirmary is... or have any sort of medical skill?"

... that went smoothly, right?! What a great, normal question to the beginning of a totally lasting friendship.
