<Cronan Dracula>

Starting Location: Kingdom of Beacon, Outside Auditorium

Cronan could see all of emotions that had flashed across sumire's face when he tried to break the bad news to her and it became painfully obvious to him how close she and Sable must have been. He almost regretted having to catch her off guard with this now of all times, but if not now then when?

"Listen Miss Sumire-" He attempted hand Sable's weapons over to once again when suddenly the girl collapsed to the ground, not to dissimilar to a marionette having its strings cut, and began to break out in tears. This was not good, Cronan had never been the best at socializing with people and he had an even harder time trying to comfort them.

He tried to think of something- of anything he could possibly say to her in this moment but he could only come up short every time, he doubted that the words of some stranger would be able to console her but he had to at least try. "Miss Sumire..." He started as he crouched down to meet her face to face "I know that this was last thing you wanted to hear today, I also know that there's no such thing as a good time to tell someone that a person closed to them has...passed. But I believe waiting things out would just made even worse in the end, still I'm sorry to have just dropped this onto you so suddenly." He apologized sincerely, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"I made a promise to Sable that I'd bring his weapons back to you... but if this is all too much for you right now I can hold onto them until you feel like you're ready. I'll be sure to tell you everything that happened in emerald forest too." He concluded before standing back up to go look for his team. He doubted he could do anything more for her at moment but hoped that her teammates could take care of that.

“…so I guess it’s just us three for the rest of the night, then”,
Sumire said after their team leader had left. Ebony nodded. “So it seems”, she said matter-of-factly.
“Um. I hope we have an okay time at Beacon. Um. Yeah…”, Sumire continued, appearing uncertain what to say. Ebony wondered fleetingly why she would say anything at all if that was the case. Oh well, people differed.
“Um…does anybody know which team Sable ended up on? I…I don’t see him anywhere…”, Sumire asked then. Ebony thought back to the team assignment a couple of minutes ago and frowned. “I believe he was on team…carmine or something?”

A moment later, another student approached their little group.
“Excuse me... Miss Yamashita, Sable wanted me to give these to you... He didn't end up making it”, he said, producing a set of weapons and handing them to Sumi.

Ah, it shot through Ebony’s head. So this…Clementine? had not been the only applicant to not make it through the initiation. It seemed Sumi had personal reasons to be affected by this news. She gained some distance to the boy – Cronan, if Sumi was correct – and protested. “He wouldn’t just…leave me…here…alone…”, she finished weakly, tears glistening in her eyes, then finally starting to run down her cheeks. Ebony looked at the other girl. She had not immediately realized just how strongly affected Sumi was. Was she related to this Sable? Or had they been a pair? Or just long-time friends?

Ebony shot a glance at Isern to see if he knew what to do. She had never been exactly the best person to comfort someone.
Cronan did try his best with Sumi, but it was obvious that she was overcome with grief. He ended up tactfully deciding to keep the weapons until Sumi had somewhat processed everything. Ebony considered taking the weapons and keeping them herself to give to Sumi, but maybe it was for the best if the weapons stayed out of Sumi’s eyesight for a bit. With another glance at Isern, she kneeled down, then hesitantly put a hand on Sumire’s arm.

“Sumire, why don’t we go find our room? There you will surely have a bit more…privacy?”
She could not help but throw a glance in the direction Oceanos had vanished. Perfect timing for him to extract himself from this…situation.

"But I never even got to say goodbye to him!" Sumire suddenly erupted with, dropping her hands in clenched fists to her sides and revealing the absolute mess her tears had made of her visage. "I never got to say goodbye, and now I never will!" Continued sobbing drowned out anything the distraught girl was attempting to say for the next few minutes, before a small, sad, "I just... wish I could just say goodbye to him..." slowly passed from her lips. She did not reply to Cronan's request of whether or not to leave the weapons with her, and simply just shook in place, small gasps in her breathing coming rapidly as she was trying to force herself to regain composure, only to break down time and time again. It wasn't until Ebony mentioned potentially finding their room that she weakly nodded, dragging herself to her feet and slowly moving off to the dorms, where, upon finding her bed, she would crawl into it wordlessly and, muffled by the pillow, slowly sob herself to sleep, not even bothering to crawl under the sheets or blanket.

...good bye Sable. I hope wherever you are, you've finally found that freedom we've both been looking for...

Kingdom of Vale – Vale city – Beacon Academy - Lecture hall – Oceanos

Oceanos took a look around the room their first lecture, Grimm Studies. He was standing at the top of several curved rows of seats which led down to a space for the desk and blackboard. So far, only four other students were present, all members of the same team probably, considering they were sitting together and engrossed in conversation. This was not surprising. Madam Purpurea had woken him early enough that he had plenty of time for breakfast. After a quick checkup, she had declared him fit enough for not just the day, but also explained that he would, after all, not have to spent two more nights in the infirmary. Admittedly, she had done so in a somewhat disgruntled manner, almost as if it was his fault that he had recovered so well and she would not be able to nurse him longer, but he did not argue with her. She had put a scroll into his hand, telling him he would need it, then sent him off with a quick explanation of how to get to his first lesson.

Deciding for a seat at a middle height – nor too far back not to hear anything, neither too close to the front to invite a prompt from their teacher to participate actively in class -, Oceanos went down a couple of steps, then took the outermost seat of the row. After looking around for a bit, he took out his brand-new scroll, stared at it for a moment, then tucked it away again. He was not at all used to technology and could not help but be afraid of somehow managing to make it explode.
Even if chances are probably slim they use combustion dust to make these…

He proceeded to pass his time by reading through the selection of texts and doodles that generations of students before him had carved into the desk in front of him, while little by little, more students began to file in. He had just decided he did not want to know why Jade Alabaster will die a horrible death by killer ants when he turned around and saw his teammates arriving at the top of the hall. He waved to them to catch their attention.

Had she even slept? The worlds of reality and her subconscious had both been thrown at each other like spheres on a Jacob's ladder throughout the night, her consciousness night passing between the realms erratically and never with good experiences, and ending only when she was dragged awake into the drudgery of school life by the blazing light of the morning sun. To say she didn't even truly feel truly in control of her own body would be an understatement, as her motions were clumsy and sluggish: a far cry from the laser-guided dexterity she had demonstrated the day prior. Whereas then she had skipped breakfast because of nerves, today she just didn't feel she deserved to eat, not while she drew breath and... he didn't. Instead she trudged through the efforts required to change into the school uniform that had been provided to her, not even bothering to do up her hair or wash her face from the battle detritus that yesterday's harrowing fights had left her with.

The walk to the first class of the day seemed never ending, each small step she took imperceptibly moving her forward as those about her rushed by, some clearly already having bonded with their team, some alone much like her. Seasons passed and time itself seemed to come to its impossible end as she slowly took step after step, the motion more like an automaton walking along its proscribed path than a newly minted hunter candidate on the way to the first class of her career. Her entrance to the classroom was similarly inconceivably slow, as she half pushed, half fell into the door to push it open. Small steps resumed as she laboriously made her way down to where Oceanos sat, and with a heart filled to bursting with sadness, she sat down next to him, and buried her head in her arms.

Raine Olympia
A recap of the past night's events.

The ceremony had been a boring affair in Raines's eyes. She had stood on the stage as her team was announced to the applause of the Beacon audience. The one who had lost his partner had been made the leader, which Raine had little to say about. She was a little concerned about how their fallen comrade hadn’t gotten a specific mention and wondered to herself whether or not the headmaster didn’t wish to disclose such sensitive information. News of students dying on the first day would likely cause an uproar that would just attract grimm.

She didn’t hang around after the ceremony. Journeying to the room that had been provided to them and hanging up a curtain to separate her bed from the boys that she was now sharing a room with. She promptly went to sleep, only stirring as her team members arrived and went to sleep themselves.

The next day Raine rose bright and early to their first class. She found stuck behind a purple-haired girl who seemed to be severely struggling to move; Raine wondered whether or not they had been serving alcohol at the ceremony and if this girl was hungover. Raine followed her into class, walking to the bottom of the hall and taking a seat in the first row. Hoisting her bag onto the desk with a hefty *thud* and retrieving a notebook and pen.

As she waited for the rest of the class and their teacher to arrive Raine began to idly sketch upgrade ideas for her Stytryx in her notebook, drumming her other fingers absentmindedly on the desk.

Isern, as his team would soon find out, was not a morning person. He just about growled at anyone that tried to talk to him, glaring at them until they quickly walked away. He wanted to eat, brush his teeth, get properly dressed, and get the day started. And all the while feeling like he hadn't slept the 8 hours that he had. But even after going through the morning ritual, he was still in a sour mood and could feel the weight of sleep trying to drag him back down. And so, as he trudged into class, he unceremoniously dropped his things at his spot by his team, sat down, and rested his head on his elbows before almost going to sleep. It was obvious that he was struggling to keep his eyelids open, but he was making an effort, he was supposed to turn his life around at this school after all, and not struggle like he did in the academy.

<Cronan Dracula>

Starting Location: Kingdom of Beacon, Dorm room

Cronan was beyond exhausted by the time he made it back to the team's assigned dorm room and wanted nothing more than to just lay his head on a pillow and drift off to sleep, he could wait until tomorrow to formerly get to know the rest of the team.

When morning came the next day Cronan woke up fairly early to spend some much needed time in silence. He tried to avoid recalling any of the events that transpired yesterday and to clear his mind of all distractions. Once he was done mediating he took a few minutes to perform a short flexibility and mobility routine before heading to bathroom to take a cold shower.

It didn't take him long after to get dressed and head on to his first class of the day. The first thing he noticed after walking through the door was the disheveled appearance of Sumire followed by the pastel colored hair of his armor-clad team mate. Cronan opted to sit next to Raine, seeing this as an opportunity to learn more about her.

Sumi walked down towards Oceanos, dropped next to him and rested her head on her arms. A moment later, Ebony and Isern followed suit, the latter appearing to immediately wander off towards sleep.
Oceanos blinked. “Um…morning. How a-“, he started, before getting interrupted by a voice from the front. He looked towards the blackboard. A man in an already…advanced age with grey hair and dark-red clothes introduced himself as Peter Port, then continued to blather on about the Grimm. Oceanos listened intently. For about five seconds.
“Right, as I was saying, how are you? You seem rather…torpid today?”, he then asked his teammates again in a low voice so as not to interrupt the doubtlessly fascinating talk their professor was having.

Raine Olympia

Raine flicked over to a new page as her captain sat down next to her, tapping her pen bored as she waited for their teacher to arrive.
"I hope you don't plan on talking through class, learning is important," she said idly to him, repeating the words that were ingrained into her from her youth.
She shifted aimlessly in her seat, being without her armour or her weapon tended to make her uncomfortable when she wasn't in her own home, now that her weapon was stored away and she was garbed in the school uniform she was feeling more glum than usual.
Her mood didn't rise as the appropriately named portly teacher wobbled into the room and began to spout a bunch of nonsense she'd known since she was young. Sighing she flicked back over to her previous page and returned to sketching her weapon upgrades, now regretting sitting at the front of the class.

A slow pathetic moan was Sumire's initial response, before she slowly lifted her head, revealing the devastation of the prior night upon her face. "I... don't know." The purple-haired waif stared listlessly at the desk surface but a few inches from her face, her eyes autonomously tracing the fake wood-grain pattern presented atop it. "Everything just feels... gray. I exist, but..." Her words faded into silence and she lowered her head to rest upon her folded arms, eyes nominally presented towards the board but lacking the shine of comprehension necessary to take in the day's lesson. She stayed this way for some time, resembling a wax figurine more so than a living breathing human, before rising to life again, turning slightly to look over to Oceanos. "...nobody's told you, have they."

Sumi’s answer was not exactly helpful at first. Oceanos wondered if she was just going to not answer him at all, considering what might had happened that was that bad while watching the rainbow-haired girl from yesterday take a seat in the front row.
“I…don’t know”, Sumi finally said hesitantly after lifting her head. Oceanos tried not to stare at her; apparently, something that bad had happened indeed.
“Everything just feels…gray. I exist, but…”, she added, then fell silent and rested her head on her arms again. Oceanos opened his mouth, then closed it again. He did not want to force her to talk about anything if she did not feel like it. He cast a glance at his other teammates. Ebony answered with a sympathetic glance of her own at Sumi, then slightly shook her head. In the front of the class, Professor Port was in the middle of a verbose speech about…something. Oceanos actually had no idea what the man was talking about.

“Nobody’s told you, have they”, Sumi asked a moment later.
“Um…no, I think not”, Oceanos responded. He was not sure if he wanted to know, if he was being honest, but did not say anything, just waited.

For a long time, Sumi sat in place, staring at the desk surface in front of her as if to bore a hole in it with her sight alone. Then, through almost superhuman effort, responded. "Sable died in the initiation. Sable Marigold..." It nearly took her entire will to be able to say that name now and not collapse into tears again, but for the moment, she held together. "... he was my friend, my... best friend."

She paused, slowly shaking her head. "No. He was my only friend."

Oceanos stared at Sumi for a moment. How did you respond to something like this? He had not even considered that another team might have experienced an initiation similar to theirs. Apparently, the girl not only had had to witness Clementine's death first-hand, but then also find out that her only friend had not survived, either.
In a formal, but supportive gesture, Ebony touched Sumi's shoulder briefly. Oceanos wondered what he should do.
"Um, I am very sorry about that..." With a look at Ebony and Isern, he added: "If you need someone to talk to...you know. We are a team now, after all." Internally, he cringed. How lame was that? If they weren't officially on a team, he would not be there for her to talk to him or what?
At least Ebony nodded approvingly, so maybe it had been somewhat understandable what he was trying to say.

When Professor Port finally came to an end, everyone immediately shuffled out. It seemed that most people had not been much more impressed by his lecture than Oceanos had. Sticking to the throng, OSEI managed to find the next room where they had their next class, Stealth and Security. Professor Greene, a woman with sharp features and a beak nose, gave a much more focussed impression. The students had barely managed to find their seats before she started her lecture, explaining the importance of securing the vicinity when setting up camp during missions. While in Professor Port's class, Oceanos had not taken any notes because none of his tales had seemed important, here, he frequently had to shake out his wrists which hurt from writing so quickly. Indeed, he had the impression that many other students felt the same, as the class was much more quiet than during Grimm Studies, with everyone busily taking notes.

Professor Greene ended her class, and Oceanos exhaled, putting pen and paper away. "I am so ready for food now...", he said. His team again stuck to everyone else, and magically, the bunch of students as a whole seemed to know much more than the sum of its parts, because after a surprisingly short time, they had actually found their way to the dining hall. Piling food on a tray, Oceanos looked around, already trying to find a table with four free seats, but probably because the students from higher grades had gotten there much quicker, a lot of seats were already taken. Leading his team to one of the remaining options, he stopped. The rainbow-haired girl from earlier sat together with a pale guy with brightly yellow eyes, another one with intensely blue eyes and a very boyish look and a dark-skinned guy whose glasses made him appear very smart. Yep. Because wearing glasses is all you need to be smart...Good that I am not wearing any, or people might jump to the wrong conclusions, Oceanos thought wryly after realizing what a weird assessment he had just made.
He looked around between the for people on the other team. "Excuse me, is it okay if we sit here?"

It became clear to Cronan once the professor began speaking that he wouldn't need to be paying too much attention in class seeing as most of what was currently being taught could be considered common knowledge to him, while the rest was just uninteresting stories. He looked back at Raine only to see that she seemed far more invested in sketching in her book than the lesson at hand. "You don't seem all that interested in learning what Mr.Portly has to offer, nice sketches by the way" Cronan commented, deciding to leave it as to not risk being called out by the teacher.

Cronan quickly made his out of the class once the lesson over and wasted no time in entering the next, which happened to be Stealth and Security taught by Professor Greene, who didn't leave that great of an impression on him with the sheer amount of writing he had to do in her class. At least he found what he was learning to be interesting this time.

He basically dragged himself out of Greene's class and into the dining, massaging his cramped hand all the way there. He got himself a generous serving of food before sitting down with the rest of his team. After a bit of eating in silence he was about to attempt to break the ice between them when suddenly someone outside group spoke up. "Excuse me, is it okay if we sit here?"

Upon further inspection, Cronan recognized the person to be Oceania Zapher, the leader of team OSEI along with... Sumire and the rest of it's members.

"...Um sure, I don't mind" He spoke up after a moment of silence.

In a daze, Isern wrote his notes, using his shorthand and paraphrasing heavily to keep up with the rapid fire statements of the professors. Professor Porter's insight on Grimm and practical examples were very interesting, but his tone of voice was the kind that put's people onto autopilot, simply nodding along as he spoke and writing in their notebooks with a glazed look in their eyes. Professor Greene was much the same, though her tone of voice demanded her students to be paying attention and writing frantically. Isern's short hand saved him the headache of trying to write down every word she said and panicking if and when he missed something. He was aware that some of the students weren't aware of the benefits of scribbling chicken scratches only you understood to paraphrase what has been said, as quite a few were massaging their wrist. Though, by the end of it all, he was thinking about buying a recorder so he could listen back to the presentation at a later date.

Now fully awake and hungry, Isern piled his plate high with assorted meats, his Faunus heritage showing through as his mound of food teetered through the throng of people, following quietly behind the rest of his team. When a potential table was stopped at, Isern wasted no time and gently dropped his plate onto an open spot and sat down. Even if the answer had been a no, they'd have been hard pressed to get Isern to move, not until after he had devoured every last bite of his lunch. Which he wasted no time in shoveling into his mouth. Tearing meat from bone, he wolfed it all down, and in a surprisingly short amount of time bones were all that was left. And once done, he simply looked around at everyone, wondering why they weren't done eating yet. This question was quite clearly seen by everyone that looked at him, it didn't take a trained body language expert to see it.

Raine Olympia
Raine glanced up from her notebook as Cronan commented on the sketches and, with a glare, turned the page and shifted her book a little further out of sight from him. She sighed and responded.
"I've been tutored on the importance of good education, understanding the enemy, and more importantly how to fight grimm," pausing she waved a hand lazily in the direction of their teacher as he began acting out some scenario of bravery.
"And that's why I can A. know when someone isn't offering good education, and B. can focus on something more important. Like altering my weapon to be able to adapt to scenarios better". Finished she spent the remainder of the class idly spinning her pen on her hand.

As they moved to the next class, she found it much more beneficial. It was just a lot of theory and she didn't speak to Cronan at all, taking down notes at blinding speed. She glanced at him occasionally and he seemed to be struggling to comprehend most of it. She wouldn't be sharing her notes. Leaving the class loaded with homework, they made their way to the mess hall for lunch. Like Cronan Raine scooped up ample portions of food and sat herself down. Not waiting to speak she began to eat, with surprising poise, her social standing seeping through.

Another student approached their table and asked to sit. Raine would have told him to move on if her mouth weren't full, but her leader was too polite and agreed. To Raines disgust though, the one who sat next to her proceeded to devour his food like a rabid dog splattering juice and crumbs and all manner of disgusting elements onto her and her plate.
"UGH!" She exclaimed, looking at the stains on her uniform. Angrily she turned, arms darting out to his head and, her semblance activating, she bent his head completely right, twisting his spine unnaturally.
"Next time eat off the floor if you're going to act like an animal!" She said angrily. Standing up from the tablet she stormed off towards the bathrooms to clean herself. Returning sometime later with a scowl plastered on her face. She slammed her hands down on the table in front of Cronan.
"Tell the next teacher I'll be late because someone barfed on me!" She turned, her rainbow hair lightly smacking Cronan in the face as she did. And Raine stormed off back to the dorms, audibly cursing under her breath.

Following the bell indicating the end of Professor Port's lecture, Sumire's listlessly arose from her chair to follow along behind Oceanos. Her head was drooped, swinging slightly from side to side with every step as she sluggishly made her way to the next class, only to offer a repeat performance of earlier, plunging her head into her arms the instant she sat down at her seat. Stealth and security? As if I need help getting people to ignore me... Her sight, lacking external stimuli to be concerned with, swam with visions of Clemintine yet again plunging down the chasm to her death, and then rapidly shifted gears into imagining every gruesome way Sable's life could have similiarly been snuffed out by the monstrosities that existed in this world. Two deaths in two days... how long do you think you'll last, Sumire? A sudden violent image of a shadowy grim, all spikes and shards, plunging its bony appendages straight into her heart and lifting her high into the air made her bolt straight upright, and it was everything the girl could do to hold back from breaking down into tears again. With whispered apologies to the air, she went back to keeping her head down, and sure enough, people quickly stopped paying attention to her as they returned to their strained attempts to keep up with the professor's rapid lecturing.

Eventually the bell rang again and just as before she arose, albeit this time far quicker as the lingering effects of the adrenaline spike kept her on a knife's edge. Though the cafeteria beckoned with the promise of a midday respite, her stomach continued to rebel against her, and as the others from team OSEI grabbed various offerings from the selections at hand, she approached the location Oceanos has chosen empty handed, merely sitting in place with her hands clasped weakly in her lap as she gave a furtive glance at the other team, in particularly their captain. "Oh, it's you, Cronan..." A long pause followed as the purple haired girl mulled over her words. "I'm... sorry what happened last night," she apologized, her eyes downturned to the table in front of her.

"Sumire... You don't have to apologize for anything," He stated. Taking a good look at her it was painfully clear how much of a toll that Sable's death was having on her, she looked like barely got-if at all any sleep and he noticed that she didn't get herself anything to eat. He knew that different people cooped differently and that she and Sable were close and knew each other far longer but he couldn't help but compare the state of the two of them and it made him wonder if he had somehow become far too desensitized to death. "Have you talked to anyone about what happened?" He asked with concern, hoping that she had not been keeping her emotions bottled up. "Is there-" Cronan didn't get the chance to finish his sentence as he was interrupted by a frustrated scream from Raine.

He turned around fast enough to catch her activating her semblance on the poor guy and winced while subconsciously clutching at his own neck. My God Raine! he practically screamed internally. He already got the impression that she didn't seem to keen on interacting with him and he would honestly rather avoid incurring her wrath, but he wasn't just going to let her carry on afterwards as if that was acceptable behaviour.

"Raine, don't you think that was too-" he tried to speak up only for her to completely ignore him and storm off, leaving him in quite the awkward position. "I'm so sorry," he rather meekly apologized to everyone on her behalf before deciding to just sit there and twiddle his thumbs in silence. Raine returned a while later only to slam her hand down in front of him and demand that he inform their next teacher as to why she would be late much to his annoyance, but it didn't end there as he would be smacked- albeit lightly in his face by her hair as she turned to leave. He began to wonder if two of them would be able to get along better than they do now.

Kingdom of Vale – Vale city – Beacon Academy - Dining hall – Cronan, Matte, Raine, Spinel; Ebony, Isern, Sumire, Oceanos

“Um, sure, I don’t mind”,
one of the boys sitting at the table spoke up. Oceanos thought back to the previous evening. He could remember that the guy was the leader of team carmine – no, crimson –, but did not quite recall his name.
“Thanks!”, he answered while sitting down.
"Oh, it's you, Cronan...", Sumi then greeted the guy who had spoken. Ah, that was his name!
"I'm... sorry what happened last night", his teammate added.

Oceanos threw a quick glance at Isern, who had not even waited for CRMS’s answer before sitting down and was now digging in quite literally. Oceanos himself certainly was hungry, too, but that…had Isern also been travelling through the wilderness for weeks without getting any real food?
He looked back at Sumire and Cronan, who seemed to have met already. He wondered for what the girl was apologizing.
"Sumire... You don't have to apologize for anything", Cronan answered, then asked if she had talked to anyone. Oceanos assumed they were talking about Sumi’s loss of her friend.
“UGH!”, the rainbow-haired girl suddenly exclaimed, interrupting their conversation. “Next time eat off the floor if you’re going to act like an animal!”, she shouted at Isern who appeared to have managed to stain her clothes. She grabbed his head, and it twisted to the side in a way that could absolutely not be comfortable.
"Raine, don't you think that was too-", Cronan addressed the girl, but she was already rushing off. The other boy on team CRMS shook his head at her. “I knew it. She would really fit better in a mental ward than in an academy…”, he commented. A couple of moments later, Isern’s neck relaxed again, relieving him of the stiff position. Oceanos threw a worried glance at his teammate. “Are you okay?”, he asked.

When he had finally started to eat his own food, Raine came back, but only to scowl at her team leader, tell him to excuse her from the start of their next lesson, then dramatically leaving again, this time hitting Cronan in the face with her hair. Oceanos relaxed his hand which had been clenched; subconsciously, he had been preparing to intervene at the first sign of her pulling another stunt with what had to be her semblance. Did she have telekinesis, too?
“Is she always like that? I’m Oceanos, by the way. I’m sorry, I don’t remember your names; I was really unfocussed yesterday at the team formation”, he said, looking at the two other guys from CRMS.
“Matte”, one of them introduced himself very short. The other one answered:
“I’m Spinel, and yes, she is. During initiation, I had a wonderful talk about maiming and crippling with her…”
Oceanos blinked; he was not quite sure what to make of that.

Together, the two teams made their way to the next lesson after everyone had finished their meal.

History was taught by Bartholomew Oobleck, who made a…casually smart impression? While wearing a shirt and tie, both were rather messy, the shirt only partially tucked in. After explaining the importance of studying history and learning from past mistakes to not repeat them, he immediately went on with a lecture on the formation of the four kingdoms – all at about the speed of light. Oceanos could not help but wonder if the man’s cup really contained only tea or coffee, or if there was more to the drink.
While he would not have expected it, Oceanos found he enjoyed the class immensely. Between helping his parents with chores and practicing with Pardus, he had never had much time to learn skills and obtain knowledge that was not directly related to keep everything in the village running and ensure safety. His history knowledge was therefore fleeting at best, and he sat behind his desk, soaking up every word while taking notes.
“Remember, even the smallest differences between cultures can lead to dramatic conflicts! In a couple of weeks’ time we will be talking about the Great War, but maybe someone already has an example for such a thing? Mr…Zapher, is it?”, Oobleck suddenly asked with an inquiring look at Oceanos. The boy accidentally made a small rip in his paper with his pen when his name was called. He swallowed, then nodded hesitantly.

“Your name is linked to the color blue, if I am correct? Can you by any chance tell me what your name has to do with the start of the Great War?”, his teacher followed up, and Oceanos nearly groaned. Out of all the students, why had Oobleck had to pick him and his non-existent history knowledge. He racked his brain…blue. What could…?
“Is it…something with, like, access to better sea coasts, or something like that?”, he offered tentatively, cringing at this stupid answer. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Ebony shake her head slightly.
“Aaah, what an interesting idea! But no, I seem to have misled you with my hint. Can someone else enlighten us?”, Oobleck gave back undeterredly.
Oceanos drew a face and slid down in his seat. He considered hiding behind his notebook, then decided that might draw even more attention…

One moment, the world was the right way up, the next it was at a sharp, 90 degree angle. This gave him a full view of who had caused his world to turn so. And her little tantrum, for that matter. "Oh well excuse me princess, next time go eat your meal in your tower." he yelled after her, not willing to back down. "He ain't your servant, princess. Go tell 'em yourself." And as she walked away, he muttered a soft "damn witch" to himself.

After a while, his neck relaxed and the world returned to it's upright position. Just in time to, as they had to get to their next class. Which was history. Hooray, talking about what the nations did in the past, nothing to really do with Grimm hunting and fighting. And for the question Oobleck posed? He didn't have a clue. Something at the back of his mind was screaming at him about something, but he couldn't make out if it was something to do with colonizing some islands or something about culture.

Sumire shook her head slowly. "No, I barely know anyone here anymore..." She looked up with a frightful look in her eyes. "N-not that I don't want to know you guys! I just... I mean it's only been a day, and we're just barely starting classes, and-" Her words came to a crashing halt as Raine stood with a scream, and before she could even react Isern's head had been spun clear around, eliciting a sudden gasp from her in shock. However, as she watched Raine storm off, despite the act looking almost certainly fatal to her teammate he continued to respond, as if barring the sudden change in visible axis, nothing had changed. Indeed, a few minutes later, his neck seemed to uncoil back to normal, almost as if on a wound spring that had been released. "Isern!" she cried out, temporarily forgetting her own concerns, then shrinking back down as the conversation began to flow around her until the bell rang signalling the end of lunch. With lunch to dispose of, she merely followed behind Oceanus as he disposed of his lunch tray, then headed off to the next class they were due.

Professor Oobleck was far more animated than any of the previous instructors, and while the history of the four kingdoms was a subject Sumire personally found interesting, with the lack of sleep the night prior and the lack of food throughout the morning, her concentration struggled, and when the professor posed the question he'd originally asked Oceanus to the room at large, even as a student of art she lacked the energy to draw a conclusion. "Uhgh... blue is the color of serenity and logic... does it have something to do with that?" she struggled out, clutching her stomach as it painfully gurgled.

"You have a point there. Still if you find yourself struggling more and more, I'm here at the very least- even if we haven't known each other for that long." He addressed Sumire, picking up right where they left off. He was worried about her mental state but she was right about it only just being a day, for now he'd resign himself to just monitoring her condition and wouldn't get seriously involved unless she got much worse. He wanted to say a bit more than that but the ring of the bell cut him off and made him reconsider doing so, instead choosing to just walk along with the rest of his team and OSEI to their next class. The first thing he did when he entered the class was inform Dr.Oobleck of the reason behind Raine's absence before finding himself a seat.

Professor Oobleck was a surprisingly pleasant change of pace from the other professors. He was far more energetic and seemed passionate about what he was teaching which naturally made Cronan more inclined to pay attention. That didn't necessarily mean he was in the mood for answering any of the questions the professor asked the class though. He simply sat back and observed as Oceanos attempted to take on the question, offering what Cronan thought to be a pretty good response but unfornately he was off mark. He watched next as Sumire raised her hand and gave her own, curious to find out if she would be the one to get it right, despite this line of thought though he didn't exactly know the answer himself.

Oobleck raised his eyebrows at Sumire’s answer. “Nice thinking, but I can see that I have steered everyone in the wrong direction. I was not talking about the specific meaning of Mr. Zapher’s name, but rather about the connection of all our names nowadays with some color or the other. While I do not yet want to go into any detail yet, one of the factors leading to the Great War was the fact that the leaders of Mantle, thinking of ways to protect their citizens from Grimm attacks, decided to ban various arts and other means of expression ourselves. Vale was not quite fond of this. It is this period of time where our present tradition of naming children after colors has its origin.”
For a moment, Oobleck stood still. Oceanos almost raised his own eyebrows at this, it was so unusual to not see the man moving back and forth.
Then the professor nodded.
“Well, I think I will take this as indication that most of you have reached the end of your attention span. Lesson is over! Off you go!”
Before any of the students could go anywhere, Oobleck had already sped out of the lecture hall. Oceanos scratched his head.
“Huh. I had no idea that the naming convention stems from a ban of self-expression.” He did not mention his childhood idea that children had to be named after a color in order to have an aura; back then, he had frequently sought confirmation that his own name fit this description, afraid he would otherwise not be able to become a huntsman…

Their next – and last, for the day – lesson in combat training led them to the amphitheater. In between, the others had quickly shown Oceanos their shared room, where they had all changed out of their uniforms and fetched their weapons, as had been mentioned on their schedules.
Professor Goodwitch was already waiting for them, scrutinizing every single student while all of them found a place on the stands surrounding the central stage of the amphitheater.
“While there will some theoretical discussions from time to time, I like to start my class every year with a more…practical demonstration. In this class, especially at the beginning, you will make mistakes, and that is good – if you learn from them. While fighting Grimm, things will stand differently, as you certainly understand. Let’s see…”, she said, looking at her scroll, then back up at the students.
“Yes, I think. Teams CRMS and OSEI, would you please come down to the stage?”
Oceanos shot a look at his teammates as his heartrate began to speed up. The eight mentioned students made their way down to Goodwitch while she explained something about all of them having to set up their scrolls for future lessons to be usable as aurameters.

Oceanos nervousy looked at their four opponents while taking a ready-for-fight stance. He had only started to consider that Spinel was also fighting with chakrams and then realized that he had no idea if that meant he should take on Spinel or not, when Goodwitch moved to the very back of the stage and spoke.
“Begin.”

Raine Olympia
Raine briskly walked back to her room to change, her arms held out at her side so as not to spread any more of the mess. The act gave her something of a robotic motion as she walked, resembling the Atlesian drones she was used to back home.
Entering her shared room she changed quickly, putting her stained blazer aside to be washed and taking the time to clean the chunks of food from her hair, which took considerably longer than the actual process of changing; not helped by her multicoloured hair making it considerably difficult for her to spot individual food particles in it. After drying and brushing her hair, Raine ran back to class. She had heard decent things about professor Oobleck, he was the type of teacher who was very passionate about the actual act of teaching.

Entering the classroom she loudly proclaimed: “I’m sorry for my absence Professor, I’m Raine Olympia there was an incident at the cafeteria!”

The green blur that was their teacher briefly paused and replied” “Ahh yes, yes, your leader already informed me of the situation, now sit,m sit I have a lesson to be teaching!”

Raine nodded and took the closest seat she could, quickly taking out her pen and paper as she began to take notes. This class was much more her speed than any of the previous ones. Alas though the class came to an end sooner than she’d liked and they were off to combat class, after another change of attire. Raine joined the others of her team, feeling much more confident in herself now that her weapon was in her hand. She looked around in interest at the others that she hadn’t seen since the initial launch of the entrance exam. Most of the weapons were folded up though so she couldn’t gauge much more than the size.

Professor Goodwitch was straight to the point, another attitude that Raine preferred to the morning’s teachers. Her dull grin that had been persisting since Ooblecks class grew wider still at the announcement of the first teams to participate in the training.
Her eyes darted over to the members of OSEI, narrowing at the Faunus Isern. Raine couldn’t hold back the low chuckles as she started walking with her team to the stage, not taking her eyes off of him.

“Ahhhh-haaa this should be fun she breathed, her voice dripping with malicious excitement.

The teams faced off against each other at either end and Raine took her combat stance, shield up, speartip forward, with most of her body hidden by shield and armour alike save the top of her head. She didn’t know what to expect from the opposing team, and without knowledge, there was little cause for strategy; which meant the best approach was -

Begin

Practically kicking off the floor Raine reeled in the distance between herself and Isern and with the power of her step and turning body thrust her spear forward, simultaneously releasing the restraints and activating the fire dust in the head of Stytryx. The combination of this was of a rocket-powered thrust of the extending spear, heading straight for Isern.
