Its a common understanding the SpongeBob Squarepants was originally supposed to be an Adult's show, dirty humor everywhere. And not the subtle dirty humor that we have, in your face all over the screen bedroom talk.


Thank god all we have is Post-Movie SpongeBob.... right guys?... because its so good nowadays..... right? Right?!?!

I mean, every show gets a few passes for big lipped alligator moments.


 
Anyone remember The Misadventures of Flapjack? That show had some issues.

That show was great! Messed up though, I wish it was still on air

I think shows like Flapjack were just experiments on how weird you could be on TV and get away with it. Then Adventure Time hit a good balance.

Yeah, a common problem with cartoons nowadays is that their so unbelievably stupid that you can' t even bare it like that damn Bread Winners show or Fanboy & Chum Chum, Main characters are doing horrible things to each other with nearly no repercussions like in Modern Day SpongeBob.


And then there's the common problem with long running shows, losing their luster and succumbing to common formulaic tropes that combine the other issues and bring up even more new ones. Though SpongeBob now falls under that category, its not the main problem with the current show. No, this effects other classics we all new and loved like Fairly Oddparents and even Dexter's Laboratory. Both these shows were great until they began wearing out in their later seasons. Thankfully Dexter's was stopped before it could reach Modern Day SpongeBob levels, but Fairly Oddparents.... Oh my god...

Uncle Grandpa is pretty cringy. I saw one episode and pretty much gave up on paying for cable.

If Cartoon Network didn't have Adventure Time and Steven Universe backing them, that show would've poisoned them.


Just, my god.


And we haven't even gotten to the terrible adult shows out there, I don't think this site could handle that particular can of worms.

There are some pretty bad adult shows out there. South Park is decent if you like semi-topical offensive sarcasm. Family Guy is ok. American Dad is OK. Robot Chicken is hit and miss sometimes, but their hits are great.

South Park is great if you like dark or completely inappropriate humor

Oh, but then we get stuff like Allen Gregory and Mr. Pickles, then we show some definitive concern.

Mr. Pickles is pretty unwatchable. I'll agree to that. South Park's newer episodes have leaned more toward satire with dark humor mixed in. Personally, I think it's a good mix.
