Royal Captive

Annabeth sat and listened to what he had to say, pulling her knees to her chest from under the covers. "So," she said after he was seemingly finished, "he was taken by the local militia. Locked away." For me, she thought to herself, before shaking the said thought away. Despite whether he had taken a liking to her, he wasn't exactly good news, as Caius had said. Yet, she couldn't help but feeling an immediate longing to see him again. She didn't exactly like the idea, but she wondered that perhaps she had also taken a liking to him.

"No matter what I've been through or what you think of him," she began, "you have to help me. You have to get him back, set him free. I don't care how...also..." She paused, holding her shaky breath. "I would like for you to take me to the kingdom of Merrida. Please. It's where I live, and I would like to go back; it's where I'll be safe...well, safe enough." Annabeth figured that this was the wisest option her kingdom. She was, after all, still a princess. She didn't know the name of the man who had chosen to have her taken prisoner, but the king definitely had to have known by now. With her back to the castle and safe, her father would then be able to fight back. All of it was an impulse decision really, but she abruptly decided that this was the best course of action for both her and Garret.

"Please," she continued, "I truly am begging you. I'll give you...I'll give you anything you want."

Caius

"Wait, what? Right now?" He answered in a surprised tone. "And Merrida? That's not a short distance you're asking for. I couldn't ensure your safety for such a journey." He extended his arms and looked at Annabeth. "I think it would just be much easier if we got Garret first. With him you'll at least be safe to Merrida. Who knows, he might even have one of his convenient one-way portals lying around." He gave her a warm smile. "And don't worry, I'll make sure he's fine. You don't have to give me anything. Garret, on the other hand..."

Annabeth felt her stomach pit in disappointment. She knew that she needed to be back in her kingdom, but he wasn't wrong; she guessed the distance between here and Merrida wasn't short; all the same, she wondered if there was some small, bleak chance that she would stumble on a way home.

She also happened to not feel comfortable with the way Caius spoke of Garret. "What does he owe you? What has he done?" She timidly asked.

"He's the one who sent you, is he not?" Caius said, and sat down on his chair again. "It's not the first time he's been in trouble, and not the first time I've had to bail him out. This is going to cost me favours, and I also think he has something that I want back." Caius got a distant look in his eyes for a moment, then snapped back to reality. "Oh, but that's nothing you have to worry about." He stood up from the chair again and walked up to her. He leaned forward and smiled at her again, "Oh, and don't worry. I'll make sure Garret is safe. Everything will be fine." And with that he walked off. He stopped in the doorway and turned his head around to her. "If you get bored you can go out into the garden. It's the part of this estate that I am most proud of, if I can say so myself."

(I can do things so you can react, but I'm feeling more than a little under the weather atm ;-; It'll probably get better later, so I'll try to post, but right now I feel like someone dropped a safe on my face.)
