I'm in. I'd be glad to do either private or group sessions, though I feel as though I work more effectively in a group environment.

So what are some rules that you generally follow when roleplaying? And give examples please. :D
sorry for the delayed response.

So, rules...Well, while in truth there are dozens, no, hundreds of rules to follow to achieve quality roleplay (many if which maybe even I am not following), they can be summed up to two small things that you need to remember:

1. You're IC (in character)-

"no need to fix what isn't broken" I always say. And so, until there is a problem, thing swill go great. And it's when people "forget" roleplaying litterally consists of "incarnating" your characters, that most issues in roleplay arise. Metagaming would be the most obvious example of this: it consists of using OOC information that your character shouldn't have, but IC. It is one of the great shuns in roleplaying, and for very good reasons. Of course, there are also more subtle nuances, such as what is known as a deus ex machina. It consists on solving a problem with a previously unexistant, unexplained or unmentioned thing.

2-You can't roleplay alone-

The second rule is to correct the mistake in thought that you to so YOU can have fun, and that implies you can do anything and have the right to di anything that you'd like. That's not true, not even if you're just writing fanafiction. The result of not thinking through the fact of what or may not be good for others as well is making crap, always. Likewise, in an RP you must be willing to make some commitements to keep things running smoothly.

If you always have in mind and follow to the letter these two aspects, then I guarantee your rolepakying will be amazing. If your partner does too, the roleplay will be unforgetable.

I could go in more detail about the two aspects, but I'll do so in the actual tutoring.

I would tutor, but only publicly and/or in a group. That way there's can be debate or consensus on what is just my opinion (for e.g. DON'T USE A DIFFERENT TENSE FROM EVERYONE ELSE) vs. what's a universal rule (DON'T GODMOD). Also, I've had requests for private "rp tutoring" before, and they were basically someone who didn't really want to change at all trying to lure someone into roleplaying with them (their grammar and writing were very bad, and they had a hard time getting partners).

I'd also happily tutor in both environments - if anyone wants to throw me a PM please do.

Hello my dear! It's me! (Again!) if you need some help with your tutoring just tag me and I'm be here with my teaching gear ^_^

I'm at the airport now but I hope to have the thread up in tutorials tomorrow. You are welcome to do whichever form of tutoring you are most comfortable with. So public and private only is fine as is a combination. I will ask everyone to send me a "intro" going over their experience and the services they wish to offer as well as the number of students they wish to take on.

Fair warning the group classes might be opened on Saturday as they will require a bit more set up than the simpler private tutoring

But as a side note private tutoring doesn't mean you have to only use a private meThod of instruction. It simply means you will be instructing one person at a time on a specific issue or issues they are personally having problem with.

Group tutoring is more like mini classes teaching a group how to improve their skills to fit the requirements of the levels of roleplay set down by RPNtion.

So if your teaching a group course I will be giving you a syllabus of items taken from the official definition for casual and detailed roleplays so that you know what items to "grade" on

Firstly welcome back! Hope you enjoyed your trip!

Second, is it possible to have a sheet or skeleton for the structure of this "intro", or are you requesting a sample?

Third, I tend to use personalized vocabulary that is based on my own experience and research. As such, these "itms to "grade" them on" would be an unfair imposition on both myself and the people I tutored. However, I have not seen them yet, so I might be wrong, but it is the sort of thing I suspect.

Sorry about that, I didn't realize "public" meant I'd be teaching a class. I don't have time to commit to something like that, and I apologize for giving a mistaken impression.

I'm going to leave this here: Journal - Grey's Learning Annex

On the basis it may provide a gentle introduction for anyone looking for tutoring; give a sense of good questions to ask or topics to pursue.

Especially since anyone looking to me for help is getting dropped in at the deep end.

Hello!

I would be interested in tutoring, definitely. I'd consider myself at an advanced level in writing when I sit down and focus, and I've been RPing for six or seven years now and would love to help people just starting out. I also have extensive experience actually tutoring people, both on one one and in groups and I loved doing it. Though I primarily worked on science and math I thoroughly enjoyed the one English class I was able to teach. However, I am very opposed to standardized grading, which you seemed to have alluded to, and instead believe in holistic portfolio based learning. Would that be an issue? I could provide you with a sample syllabus of my own and explain my views on evaluations if you would like. I'm new to this site so I understand any hesitations you may have about me, but I can assure you that I love to teach. I would love to run a class and tutor some eager pupils!

@Grey

Thanks! I'm sort of surprised I didn't have this idea myself. It's awesome someone did! I think a lot of people could benefit from this. Heck, even I could probably use some one-on-one criticism.

I would gladly take the tutoring if you have the time miss?

@Idea , @Demense

Actually since you both submitted some fair concerns ( and the syllabi were unnecessarily complicated even for me to come up with much less to keep track of ) I've decided to make this simpler for everyone by simply submitting the definition of both the Casual and Detailed prefixes to the former Syllabus post.

Now then in group roleplays your goals will simply be to ensure that your students fit the criteria set out by the prefixes by the end of your teaching roleplay.

How you choose to do this is entirely up to you.

Now for Advanced classes you will have even more free-reign. As these will be classes where the students will submit areas in which they wish to improve. You also have the option of giving general advice on the areas listed in the advanced section.

But again how you choose to instruct your students is going to be largely up to you.

I will be going through and keeping an eye on things - but more to ensure you don't need any additional assistance or to help with any disciplinary issues you might run into.

Hopefully this clarifies some issues for you both. But feel free to quote or pm me if you have further questions.

I enjoy feedback as it helps me keep this service as efficient as possible.

Is this tutoring thing for brand new RPers only or can somewhat experienced RPers attend? I have a history of Rp but i never really been taught how to RP..Just went with the flow so i could use some expert help straightening my style out which is VERY sloppy imo

@readingraebow , I hope you don`t mind me answering for you.

Of course, more experienced rpers can attend. In fact, if you go to the actual tutoring page, you will find the several levels. More experienced roleplayers may want classes in the advanced level or if you`re not confident enough for that one, intermediate.

If you need a link for that page, it`s in my signature.

I am, both private and public
Trying to figure out which one would benefit me the most

I'm not a fan of 1x1 roleplay but the private one seems to offer more to assist me but since i prefer group RPs it would be better to be trained in that field to improve what i life doing

Private with me doesn`t involve roleplaying. Well, not unless you ask for it directly. For the most part, in private I stick to what I mentioned: theory aided by exercises.
