So I’ve been kicking around the idea of opening up a tutoring service in January for my fellow roleplayers and I just wanted to poll some people to see if it would be something anyone would be interested in participating in.

I got the idea from several other sites that I’ve roleplayed on that offered “Roleplay Schools” to their users.

Now for those unfamiliar with the concepts I’ll give you a brief overview of what I mean.

Roleplay tutoring is basically where an experienced roleplayer offers either one on one or group help to less experienced roleplayers in improving certain aspects of their skill sets.

To be more precise :

Private ( 1x1 ) Tutoring

is where an experienced roleplayer will work with someone else to help them improve specific issues that they may be struggling with. This can be helping them by proof reading their posts, showing them how to code, helping them flesh out plots/characters/world building for specific roleplays, etc.

Group ( Public ) Tutoring

is where an experienced roleplayer will show a group of less experienced rpers how to improve their skills to the next level of roleplaying. For instance showing someone how to go from Simple to Casual or Casual to Detailed. This usually takes the form of a practice roleplay where the tutor will go through each players post and show them ways to improve. While also offering tips on character development as needed.

Now my hope is to gather a group of roleplayers together who would be willing/able to do group or onexone tutoring for others. But as I said I wasn’t sure if there would be any great demand for the service so I thought I’d put this in the discussion to see if anyone would be interested.

I'd be up to help out with this. It seems like an amazing idea.

There is an objection, though, that while isn't one I'd pose is one this project is likely to face: What about people who may simply have different styles from the ones tutoring?

Fair point I was thinking of maybe putting up sample of each tutors work to help with that? I mean depending on what kind of tutoring they're doing it might not be a sample of everything the tutor can do but enough that you'll get some idea of what they bring.

Lol in the process of getting set up, as it says in my signature I'll be leaving on Sunday for nine days but when I get back I hope to have the thread ready for applications

Are these samples based only on pratical rping or also on theory? My own rping ranges in many directions, especially given I am often writing in a bit of hurry (I work for some...let's say, "moody" people.). However, I do have my understanding of how things work (or fail to work), and am often presenting them in either comments or on my tutorials.

Fair enough! Hope you enjoy your time...as a teacher, I know I will xD
Well we're currently in the run around crazy pack last minute faze of prep but I'm probably going to be super stoked when we actually get there. We're heading to Disney World which is supposed to be pretty neat for the Holidays.

Either or is fine as long as they related to the services you'll be offering. So say you're offering help with character development - you can either link your own characters or a tutorial you've created on how to create a well rounded character. Whichever one you have available/are most comfortable sharing.

The only time I will ask for a specific example is if you are doing group tutoring - I will ask for at least one sample roleplay you have hosted in the past. Just so I know you can juggle the responsibility properly.

alright with me. I'll send you a link later that I hope will suffice for the latter request.

Sure thing, take your time. I'll be available off and on throughout the day as I work.

Ok, enjoy your vacations when you go!
Thanks! I'm hoping to get some nice pics of Pooh and Tiger all dolled up for christmas. ( my favorite Disney characters ). And I know the Star Wars thing is coming out soon so I was looking forward to seeing if they had anything at the Park.

They do have a few star wars attractions, next to space mountain (great ride by the way). I don't anything new is up. And I think those characters you mentioned haven't been going about lately. Only new franchises, like frozen, plus the classics (Mickey Mouse and that crew of his)

True enough I don't think I've ever seen Pooh wandering around. I do know we're having Breakfast with him our last day so I'll try to get some pictures then.

I know my little sis is psyched about Elsa. I might stalk Tink if I see her wandering about but I'm not sure if she's a photo-op character. ( lol I like all the obscure characters ). Well okay Tink is far from obscure but I don't think I've ever seen anyone in a Tink costume regardless.

I wouldn't know. Personally, I've stopped paying much attention a while ago, but I couldn't help going, I'm the oldest sibling And even if we don't get along too well, it'd still be a jackass move to refuse to go along.

Still, this is not quite the topic of the thread, I think we should cut it here.

I'd definitely be up for helping, as well - I wouldn't be able to do more than one or two 1x1s, given the heft of my other projects, but provided that isn't an issue, I think it could be a good thing :)

Absolutely you could simply offer private tutoring if that was more your style or you didn't have time for a larger group.

This is a great idea and I'd like to be involved! If anyone has been roleplaying for a while and would like to show me what they've got, I'd be happy to be taught. :)

I'd (we'd, actually, I assume) be happy to offer a hand and teach you!

It'd be weirder if I didn't help.
Seeing how you're a staff member member a have made several great tutorials on various topics, I don't think that statement is necessarily true. After all, even without joining this, you still help.

So what are some rules that you generally follow when roleplaying? And give examples please. :D

I would like a tutor please for 1x1.
I'm away on vacation at the moment but I'll be opening up the service sometime Jan 1st. Until then your welcome to ask the people who have posted in the thread interested in tutoring for help.

I'll be sure to tag you both when the thread is officially open.
