Realistic or Modern Rin, La Reine Prochaine: Sweeney

A passable queen.

Of course Rin didn't say this aloud, and she even had to pause before answering out of fear that she would blurt it out. But she didn't want to lie to him, either. Rin took a short moment to toss around the situation in her head. She tried to think of an answer that wasn't a lie, but wasn't a stretch of reality. She didn't want to be too vague either.

"To become good enough in my parents' eyes." Rin took a long sip of her drink, wiping her mouth before finishing the drink off. "I just want to be good enough and not let everyone down. But lately, I haven't seen myself as much else."

The fire was warm and comfortable, filling the room with a pleasant smell. Homey. Welcoming. But, of course her guilt was still panging in the back of her head. Rin would have to figure out if she was going to assume the throne or step down to allow a different family to rule Gellenvale.

"What have you always wanted to be, Finn? You seem quite....out of place, here. I think I remember a...sketch book? Have you thought about going to the art school in Gellenvale?"

He hummed in agreement, taking a drink while formulating his answer. She had hit the topic he was running from.

"There's nothing I want more." Finn said wistfully, daydreaming about the school he had read and heard about. "But with my situation, it's hard to be acceptable in other's eyes and actually get what I want in life." He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "What can you do?"

The sky was pitch black and he knew it was very late. "Do you have somewhere to be, Rin? It's pretty late." He changed the subject, not wanting to go further into that sob story just yet.

(I'm sooooo sorry. I typed a response ages and just had to copy and paste but convinced myself I already had, somehow lol but i could have sworn i was in this thread and pasting my text into here. maybe i just didn't post it? or the site glitched or something? typing in this field after that post feels like deja vu, right now.... Then I couldn't find the link for ages because our content wasn't coming up in my files and I had to find it manually. but here I am! so sorry!!!)

"Probably." She murmured softly, adjusting in her seat. "I'm probably horribly naive, and still probably the worst person to offer you any kind of assurance, but you're lucky. Luckier than me. For years, I've done everything but what I wanted to do. As a result, I have no desires, dreams, or skill set that isn't apart of what ties me to Gellenvale. Soon I will have to go back, but I'm not ready yet. I know I'll have to sacrifice much more than I already have in order to fulfill my responsibilities. But you are more than capable of getting what you want in life. I mean, who cares if you're from a small town? The school is a bit pricey, and it would be best to move to Gellenvale since it's really tiring to have to travel back and forth from here to there."

Her eyes then flickered out and over the open land around them. Her eyes settled on Gellenvale. It was funny how she'd all but forgotten she'd ranged so far. The mountains obscured the view of Gellenvale from here. But then a thought came to her mind. "Can you do portraits?"

(Okay. Glad you're back!)

Finn wanted to ask why she had such demanding ties to Gellenvale. If she had demanding parents as he had, then she would be able to do whatever she wanted as well. At least, that's what she said he could do. But what was it that was so inescapable in her life? He didn't ask, because it seemed like it was distressing. He'd leave it be for now.

She was right. The school was pricey, and he'd need to move. All of these things were such huge obstacles. He had saved little by little, and could surely afford the first year at least - but he didn't count moving costs. And his parents demanded that he help out on the farm for all of eternity. He could never imagine convincing them to give up their reins on his life.

Her sudden question startled him. "Yes." It was his first word in a while, and it was simple and confident. He smiled a little. "Why?"
