(All aboard, friends! It's another hyperactive rant! The "ADHD Dann wagon" is in full effect! Woo-wooo! Ha ha! 8D)

Between the Twins in Far Cry, Mickey is the thinker and Lou is the bruiser. Both are comfortable and wise-cracking even in life or death situations, make good teammates, and they look out for those they care about.

They are also tough, cunning, relentless, and absolutely ruthless to their foes. Mercy is not in their creed. Like her sister, Mickey is syrong-willed and impatient, but she especially has a "think first" take-charge personality. She's a deep character.

On the surface, Malice strikes me as having many of Mickey's qualities. Of course, I could be wrong, because she's your character and not mine.

Also, at this stage, I'm not convinced Malice is evil. She seemed appreciative to Eric Foss and his buddies when they broke her out and armed her. From my point of view, the vast majority of evil people in the world lack that special quality. They also lack compassion.

While Malice was being freed, I think a demon-hearted character might have instead thought, "Yeah, that's right! You motherfuckas better free me or you're going to wind up on the same pile of corpses as those bitches who tried to sell me into slavery!"

Malice also seems to trust her liberators. I haven't seen any signs of her watching Eric Foss and company as closely as our enemies, say.

In my world, people under stress often say the most outlandish things. Sometimes they mean them, sometimes they don't.

In Malice's situation, I think one might be so upset as to say, "When I find these motherfuckers, I'm going to cram a flamethrower straight up the hole in their asses and laugh as I hold down the trigger!"

I believe someone can be a wonderful badass and talk like that, but sadly, I think a character is evil if they actually do it.

Personally, I hope Malice turns out to be just the wonderful badass! =)

What do you think?

Honor and fun,
Dann =)

Malice is evil.. to an extent. But she also has a small very small side of decency and humanity hid somewhere inside lol. But Evil does not mean She can not do an act of evil or 20 for the cause of good. So it sort of contradicting... lol. She has her moments though! lol. I think of my alignment with Malice like the alignment of my Drow Cleric of Lolth in D&D. She may be evil and will do anything no matter what to assure self preservation but that does not mean she does not have good intentions behind alot of her evil acts. Because Generally speaking Evil is opposition of the lawful types.. and there is times when doing a legitimate act is still inherently evil in nature. So alignments not only are they subjective they are also opinionated and vary from locale to locale so In honesty a lawful good character who commits what in his eyes as a bad or evil act though the laws of what ever land he is in currently deemed it a lawful act.. does that still mean he's a vile villain? No because he followed the laws of the land! I chose my alignment because her actions would deem her evil by most locales laws but where she came from all of her acts others would see as evil are considered acts of goodness. I hope i dont lose noone and everyone can follow lol

Hmm. By the definition you've provided, it sounds to me like Malice is (overall) of one of the Selfish alignments (as I see them). Not truly evil, not truly good, but right in between. But that's my subjective definition and I think you're right, Donna - alignments are subjective! That's an important thing to remember!

My definition of evil is one I've thought about long and hard over the years GMing, DMing, and Storytelling. When a good buddy of mine invited me to an evil-alignment-only game, I had to turn him down. While I loved the idea of playing alongside him and his buddies, I can't stand my evil NPCs any longer than I have to. I didn't even consider creating an evil PC for another campaign. Sometimes, my evil monsters are willing to do things that turn my stomach as a human being (like how my Chaotic Evil ogres like to pull the limbs off of people just to see how they'll react). Some PCs think evil is cool, but in my personal world, evil can be nightmarishly scary. Mainly because, in my head, my truly evil characters and creatures have no love for anything, even themselves. They are thoughtless and cruel and oh, can they hate! And they act on that hate. Can't say I miss them long whenever my PCs take one down. Sometimes, I feel relief that I don't have to play that bad guy any longer. =)

From my point of view, I have always tried to view alignment as a tool, not as a crutch or an excuse. When folks say, "My character is so-and-so alignment!" my first reaction is, "O.K.! Prove it!" What follows usually is very telling and leads to good times. =)

I think a Lawful Good character who commits an evil act in the name of another land's laws, is quite lawful! But he or she probably won't feel good about the evil act in question. That was like the old D&D 1st Edition arguments around playing a Paladin. Those got rough sometimes. I don't miss those either.

As for our team, I believe teams (both players and characters) succeed because they accept each other. I'm accepting of you. You seem accepting of me. That makes me feel good! As for our characters, I hope they learn about one another and, without surrender, are able to form a good relationship. Going back to something good Silanon said, I just think folks don't want another reenactment of the Selfish vs. Good problems we had earlier in this game. We're all here for the same reason - fun and togetherness! That's what matters to me. =)

Hey SexyStonerRoleplaygal SexyStonerRoleplaygal We now have a couple extra Mystic Talismans of Protection from the Warrior Women that you can get one of if you'd like. They give you 100 MDC protection for ten minutes at a time up to three times a day. One size fits all!

Sweet! i just want one of those bastards left alive... I need answers... and I will get them even if it means I have to cut body piece at a time off until they cooperate and decide they have an urge to divulge information lmmfao

BTW if we are comandeering their ship then bring that motherfucker onboard and lock his ass up in those cozy little cells until we have time and the safety to begin the interrogation process!

Whoa, whoa, whoa. And now it seems here's where alignment and party cohesion is going to be put to the test.

Psychie? Our characters just ran into each other. They risked their lives for those talismans (and other gear). Why in the world would we just toss items worth 5,000,000 credits to complete strangers? Plus, shouldn't other people in our group have a say about treasure our core group earned? We don't have a party leader.

That your character needs answers is fine, but I don't see my (Scrupulous with Unprincipled tendencies) character hanging around with a character whose willing to torture another.

My character will have a serious problem with both of these actions.

Out of sight out of mind! LMAO. Malice will adhere to normal means of interrogation. and torture is not against a good alignment! lol if it were then the world IRL would be a pretty bad place considering torture is a valid and common tactic in war times! and well being kidnapped and imprisoned for nothing seems like more than a valid reason to pull out all the stops and resort to war time protocol! lol And it is not like Malice is going to ask anyone to assist in her interrogation, not at all that would take away some of her sense of accomplishment if she were to have help. this will be a solo escapade!

Malice will adhere to normal means of interrogation. and torture is not against a good alignment!

Offering to tone it back is welcome, but per Palladium, Principled (Good) characters will "never torture for any reason" while Scrupulous (Good) characters (mine) will "never torture for pleasure, but may use muscle to extract information from criminals or evil characters." (Italics mine) Then again, they may not. My character was a slave on Atlantis for 10 years of his life. Making someone scream in agony, especially Blind Warrior Woman who is herself a slave, is against what my character would do.

Donna, I don't mean to change your character's intents or actions (I'm trying to respect); I just want to make everyone here aware of mine.

You're fine doll! But that is why i said the interrogation will be a solo task! lol. Might keep him alive until we reach a place to research more spells. OOC knows the spells I need to make this a much smoother endeavor but needs to find a place IC to make an acquisition of said spells to accomplish! and the torture of course is a last ditch effort to extract the information! Will first resort to persuasion and the like. That is partially why Malice was built to be a Roleplay heavy character! lol

That was more a player-to-player offer, not a character-to-character offer. I understand that Malice is a newcomer to our little group, and it will take some time to get to know one another before any character will be willing to pass on one of those cool talismans.

Besides, there were a total of six of the Altarians there, so if anyone else wants to snag a talisman, please do so! We sure could use them!

Like I said, it will just take us a little bit to get to know you before we can fully accept you into the party. Plenty of time to do that!

Yes. That is how it seemed. Handing out loot to friends and folks out-of-character may be nice, but I feel it makes for poor roleplaying. Instead, if everyone in the core group is satisfied, perhaps we can keep one aside and should our team meld well with Malice, then provide her one?

Gradicus snagged the rest in my last post to distribute to our core group. Gradicus, for one, would take one of them and return Elder Brazamal's to him. That way, my character does not owe our noble dragon his 5,000,000 credits from the loan. You might consider it for Terra, too?

Sherwood Sherwood I don't know if it is over, but that was a terrific adventure on the fabled island of Atlantis! Thanks for making it happen! To think this all started last October! =)

What are the statistics on the K-4 rifles and how many E-clips came with them, please?

Just an RP note to share - Gradicus made it out of all that with only 1 M.D. remaining on his Blazing Comet force field! Anything after that would have made it through to him. He only has enough P.P.E. for one last armor spell. How did your characters make out? =)

Psychie Psychie I just edited my last post for a bit of Gradicus/Terra chat. I remembered that Gradicus has faced the Blind Warrior Women, but this is Terra's first time.

Yay, xp! Also: Those guns look neat.

About the alignment thingies mentioned: My character has "never torture anyone if not absolutely necessary" in the alignment description, and it's one of those things I intend to follow - and for me, that also means to not watch while someone else does the dirty work, or ignore such actions if they ever come up at any given point. That's just meant as a remark that our slayer is not the only one who'd have a serious problem with ill-advised actions in regards to the prisoner; I can see where you're coming from, but Shaona would likely not. The fact that we travelled alongside a freed warrior woman for some time does not help the cause, either, so I'd certainly appreciate it if you find a way to get your information in a more acceptable way later on.

Philosophical thought: In war times, "goodness" is often disregarded; torture is part of that. It's still an evil act in my book - and yes, we're in a really bad place when we have war and torture is 'needed'.

... the more people protest my character and/or her intentions as well as trying to justify opinion based off of what the books even state as merely a "Guideline" the more I feel My presence here is not wanted on more than an IC level. if that is the case please by all means do not hint or beat around the bush just say what you're really feeling cause if that is the case I'll gladly and happily bow out and depart. definitely not intended to stay some place I'm not really wanted.

Well, crap - it appears that I phrased my concerns quite poorly, perhaps it'd been better to not write them down at all - think Dann did a much better job at formulating what I mostly have in mind. Sorry that the post apparently reads in a manner that makes you feel unwelcome, it was not intended that way. Let me give it another try:

I'm concerned about your future plans in regards to the prisoner. Maybe I'm wrong with that and everything will work out fine - I do, however, see the potential that it won't, and that's why Dann assumedly wrote his posts and why I added my own thoughts as well. You are new in this rp, and so noone can expect you to know how our characters would act in certain situations; heck, even those who have been here right from the beginning likely couldn't tell with certainty what the other characters would do. That's why I thought it'd be a decent idea to let you know that torture is a no-go for Shaona, and that I intend to follow the "guidelines" in the rulebook in that regard - not because it's in the book, but because it's something that goes against what I imagine Shaona to be.

The reason why I thought it'd be good to know from your perspective is that it's a damn serious difference in thinking between the characters (possibly, at least) - a difference that could mean that, at some point when it comes up, our characters might think too differently about it to continue their journey alongside each other. As Dann wrote, torture is against what Gradicus stands for at this point; as I wrote, he's not the only one in that particular position. And I don't want that to become an issue somewhere along the line, thus my post (and likely Dann's posts as well, just don't want to speak in his name here - already did too much harm).

It's not that I don't want you to be a part of this rp - rather the opposite, in fact. I don't want you to come to a point where there's no way to continue, just like one of our fellow, previous rpers; or at least, I wouldn't want you to reach that point without knowing beforehand. We're all here to have fun, and we all have different characters in mind; that's great, that's what makes rping an awesome hobby. You've got an interesting character concept in mind, one that I'd like to see work out; it might, however, be in conflict with the core values of other characters, and that's something that needed to be adressed from my point of view. Doesn't mean it can't work out, just means that we all need to be careful so that we don't blindly reach a point where stuff blows up beyond repair.

I'll happily admit that I'm sceptical, and I mentioned that right at the beginning if I'm not mistaken (I hope I did). I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though.

This is probably even worse, isn't it?

For what it's worth, Silanon, I think we're both thinking the same thing (again) - we want everyone, Donna included, to have fun here, but it seems sooner or later, our characters are going to clash. We've seen this happen before (it's still there in the early OOC pages) and we're not looking forward to it. However, there is hope!

I've been roleplaying far too long to have not seen this before, especially in tabletop and Live Action Role Play games; this is an old road to me. From my point of view, it works like this:

1. The Game Master and players have the best of intentions toward each other and are playing a game with a team of compatible-hearted characters.
2. A new player enters the fold. Hooray! The team welcomes said player with sincere and open arms.
3. Then everyone finds out the character of the new player is not compatible with the characters in some way or another (usually alignment, but sometimes its a power or story-related issue).
4. Talks begin. Feelings may get hurt, especially among those new to roleplaying (who sometimes confuse the team's problems against the character as being problems against the player, when they're not!). I feel it is always important to keep the distinction between player and character clear! The player is fine! The character is the problem! This is the stage we are in now.
5. Eventually, one of three actions take place:
5a. Not feeling like they belong, the new player leaves (an action no one wants and everyone feels bad about). (I have been this person before! I didn't like it. I hope Donna stays!)
5b. Some (or all) of the old team leaves (this usually means the entire game falls apart, and while it's the least common situation, it's definitely the worst). Players of like minds form new games elsewhere or try to continue on in the old game. Players of unlike mind drift away. (This sucks! Plain and simple. But sometimes it's the best solution).
5c. A compromise is met (usually from the new player, but not always). The game continues and everyone has fun together (the best possible solution)!

This is one HUGE reason I tell players interested in my own games what to expect in terms of party alignment. That way, everyone, new and old, has a strong idea of what to expect and we don't run into this situation. Roleplaying is a safe haven, a fun and creative hobby for all involved to share and take one's mind off of the stresses of Real Life. Clear communication and compassion between players (and preferably characters) is key. At least for me. =)

SexyStonerRoleplaygal SexyStonerRoleplaygal Donna, you want straight up, right? I respect you, so here it comes - I hope you stay with us. You seem to have a fun-loving personality, you post often, and your posts are fun to read. Would you consider Malice's alignment to Selfish? If that's not possible (and if it isn't, I can totally relate! I have my fair share of characters who roll one way and one way only), then I hope you will consider playing a different character entirely (again one with non-evil alignment) and starting anew.

We have a Cyber-Knight and a Tattooed Undead Slayer in here that are sworn to combat evil. It's what they do. Not to mention the other characters who are strictly non-evil. We want you to be part of our group! If we didn't, why would we be putting so much time and effort typing and talking about it in OOC. Right? =) If we didn't care, we would just be playing the game instead and letting this fall by the wayside, wouldn't we? I believe most of us players in here are the caring type (I know I am), so we care about you too. And I am O.K. with that. There it is. =)

That said, I have a serious request for Sherwood Sherwood . Hey bud? From here on out, are you comfortable making this game open to Good or Selfish characters only? This is the second time we're going through this and I'd like to see all of us playing together in harmony (because that is the way I roll!). =)

Honor and fun,
Dann =)
