Rift Jumper

David stumbled back, completely freaked out by what was going on. Who the hell was this chick? He back was pressed up against the door of the boys cell, not releasing that the power was out that that meant all the electromagnetic pulses that were being sent into the room to keep him from rifting was off. Turning his head, he saw the boy standing by the door and looking out the window. He had a wicked grin across his face and a dark glint in his eye. He knew he was free.

"Everyone back!" David dashed away from the door and pass the girl. The guard that were next to him were not as quick and a rift opened under their feet and they dropped into blackness.

David landed against the fall wall of the hall and turned to face the girl and the boy behind the door.

"I was going to stay for a bit but since you made such a grand entrance, I can't help but want to take the opportunity." The boy walked through the door, as if there was a rift there. He vanished for a second and appeared before the door. David was scared stiff and could only watch. The boy walked up to the girl and ran his fingers through her hair.

"Thanks blondie." He gave her wink and then moved past her. Right as he was behind her, 3 guards cam running into the hall. The stood in front of David, protecting him. Lifting his hand to his hand and the other to her stomach, palms out, a rift opened between them. Bullets rang through the air but each disappeared into the rift. Quickly switching his hands to the other position, the rift reversed and the bullets shot back out and into the guards bodies.

"Now..." The boy walked up to David crouched down to him, leaning in real close. "I'm about to ask a question, you know...between you and me. Between men. And the answer you give me will decided if you live or die." He leaned in really close and brought his mouth close to his hear, whispering "Where...is...my...sister?" He almost spoke in a hiss. When he leaned away, waiting for the answer, the smile he wore before was gone. Only anger masked his face.

"I don't know. Honestly. We tried to get her but we were attacked by another rifter." Davids voice was almost a stutter.

"Wrong answer." The boy snapped. He lifted his hand in the air and David lifted his own to protect his face.

"WAIT!" The boy stopped. "I do know she will be entering a major race. You will find her there."

The boy dropped his hand, smiling large again.

"Oh, she races. Good answer. What her name?"

David looked at him, almost dumbfounded.

"What is her name? I won't ask again."

"Jewel, her name is Jewel..."

"Jewel....and who is the other rifter she was with?"

"A girl name Lavender. She saved her."

"Lavender and Jewel...I like it." The boy stood and stretched. "One more thing, you guys have been calling me Patient XYZ. Whats my real name?"

"You were never given one..."

"Oh...well thats okay. I can name myself. How about Chase? No...to common." Pulling out a playing card from his pocket, he held up a Ace of Hearts. "Ace...I like that. Ace." He pocketed the card and turned to the blonde girl.

"Hey blonde, love to stay and chat but I have a sister to find. Thanks again. If you ever want to hang, find me." He gave her a wink and the vanished.

~~

"I wouldn't be surprise if that was the case. She was one of the kids that were actually experimented on when she was born. David broke them out apparently and he gave them to me. There are a lot of people who can do more things now. Their bodies and abilities are expanding. More people can rift now too...maybe humans are finally evolving?" Jewels last comment was almost a joke but she really did wonder.

"Mama..." Sue's voice came from behind them. Jewel turned and stood up.

"Hey sweetie, did the other wake you." Jewel asked. Her voice soft.

The girl shook her head and lifted her hand. In her hand was a playing card.

"For you." The card was Ace of Hearts card.

"Where did you get this?" Jewel asked, trying to amuse the child. She smiled and took the card. "You didn't go into Lavenders stuff and take this did you?"

Sue shook her head and smiled.

"Ace."

"Yes, It's an Ace card but where did you get it."

"No, its Ace. He gave it to me."

Jewel froze. "Who's ace?"

"Your brother."

"Hun, I don't have a brother. I was born an only child. You know that."

Sue shrugged and ran off, going to play with the other kids.

Jewel turned to Lavender and held up the card.

"Do you have a pack of cards?" Her voice was filled with worry. "Or know anyone named Ace?"

The girl looked from the spot where Ace had stood, before looking up a David. The man was against the wall, huddled down with his knees to his chest; still recovering from his interaction with Ace. The guards had long since vanished, making their own escape. Her eyes settled on David, and as he looked around in panic his locked with hers, and he seemed stuck. She cocked her head to the side ever so slightly and kept her eyes locked on his as she spoke.

"Who was he?" She asked.

"A patient. A dangerous one, we need to sto-"

"Liar."

"What? No!"

"We don't need to do anything. You do." She said; quite... carelessly. Her eyes had wandered and she was looking around the corridor. Her eyes drifted to the large window nearby and she stepped towards it, placing her palms against the glass. She felt the dampness, and the cold of the glass on her skin and let out a soft sigh.

"So this is the world...huh, feels different to what I imagined, or remember. It's hard to keep track."

"Why did you come here? How did you even get in here?!" David asked, half shouting.

"Oh, I followed you."

"H-how?"

"Water is a fantastic conductor you know. Rift energy, electricity... very good things to just flow through water currents, as if there was nothing there at all."

"I don't.."

"This place is the same. Lovely and conductive and...invigorating. Is that the right word? It feels right. It is so weird... this... gosh what is it? Breathing, that's it. My lungs are moving and my heart is beating and my blood flowing and... I'm actually alive." She said. She sounded mesmerised by her own words, as if she was confirming all the things she was feeling, to herself.

The lights began to flicker again, quicker this time. The woman stepped back from the window and raised her arms, tilting her head back and smiled. It was the smile of someone pleased; like the warm comfort of a hot shower, or slipping into your favourite pyjamas. Her fingers stretched apart and tiny flickers, then small streams of electricity jumped between them. After a few seconds, the lights along the ceiling of the hallway began to pop, one after another in rapid succession. Bolts of white-blue electricity stretched and joined to the girls fingers. Alarms went off elsewhere in the building; power failure, critical. Failure in all cell doors.

The light flashed then vanished, fading to pitch blackness. The girl melted away into the shadows of that room, as she made her way into her lovely, comofrting, dark portal she asked David something.

"How many rifters have you got locked up in here? Well, 'did' being the better word."

The lights started to off and on and David heart started to race.

"We got enough to learn more about them. Some of them are dangerous and some are not." He wasn't entirely lying. There were some very dangerous rifters living within the building who hated mankind. They were captured over time for killing sprees during the time rifter were not very well known. They believed themselves to be the higher beings. The government did their best to put a cap on them.

"Wait, did?" David pulled himself up. "Are you stupid or something! This was not only a research platform but also a prison. Over 100's of people here are known killers who used their powers to kill humans. Now they are free to kill both our kind and humans!"

Looking at the guard, David pointed out of the hall. "Go to each of there cells. See if they are free. Keep them locked up with the electro guns and if they are free, be careful and take them down! And where the hell did that woman go?!" David looked around for the woman who saved him before but she was gone. He noticed she had been gone since the boy who called himself Ace got out.

--

Jewel sat down in her chair and took a deep breath. In her hand was a slightly dirty Ace of Hearts card.

"Ace..." Why did Sue say it was her brother. Everyone know that Jewel was born a only child. Her parents adopted her the moment she was born from a woman who did not want her. Then when they learned what she was...they abounded her. If she had a brother, she would remember it or know. Maybe for once Sue was just dreaming. Jewel only told herself that because it was impossible to believe Sue.

Setting the card down, Jewel opened her mouth to say something to Lavender but her phone went off. Picking it up, she opened her racing application. It was a notification about the race. Sign up's were finished and it was showing the list of contestants. This was how the government set it so people could place bets on the race. The list was in rankings, so like always, hers was first. A frontal profile picture of Jewel sat next to sats and statistics. Under that was the number of people who were placed votes on her win.

All together, there was 200 racers. It was a large amount but by the time the race started, it would be about 150. Most couldn't stand the pressure and drop out. There was also the preliminary races to help cut people before the final race. The first one was tonight in New York. She was listed for this one.

"They got me in the first race. This will be to easy." Jewel smirk and straitened her back with pride, but the moment she did...she winces from the pain in her shoulder. "Gonna have to make sure my arm is wrapped good, so it won't cause me problems...and my energy.."

Looking up at Lavender, Jewel smiled.

"Want to partner with me? You can ride with me and we can combine energy?" Jewel wiggled her eye brows at the girl, hoping to make her smile since she hasn't since they met.

--

Ace walked down the street, hand in his pockets and a smile wide on his face. Her black hair bounces with each free step he took and his eyes darted from every object. He wanted to take in everything. This was the first time in a long time that he had been out and truly free. Last time he got out, a few bad things happened and he was put right back in.

"Jewel, oh my sparkling sister...where could you be?" He was walking down a busy street in New York, scanning for the energy of his sister. He had to find her. Of course he could always find the one girl who got him out. She seemed fun. And who was this Lavender girl? She seemed even funner. The way David reacted to her name only made Ace want to meet her more.

Laughing out loud, Ace came to a quite street and walked in the darkness. He could feel the her energy building. He knew it was her. Walking up to her old door, he walked through it and looked around. Empty.

The smile on his face started to vanish. Her energy was so strong here. Along with others. Along with David. He could feel sickening energy of the essences combined of Jewel and David. His smile was now gone. That horrible man touched his sister? He would have to pay another visit to David.

Walking up the stair, he followed where her energy was most powerful. In the second, smaller, bedroom, there was a old queen bed with messy covers sitting in the corner of the room. Books scatter the place along with racing gear and junk.

He grab a shirt of hers hanging on the bed post and brought it to his chest, feeling her energy waving off of it.

Holding onto the shirt, Ace then went into the bathroom attached to the room. A medium sized mirror hanged tilted above a sink. There were a few rings on the side, a handful of tooth brushes and and a bottle of sleeping pills. Ace smiled at the humanness of everything. His sister, living like one of the people who walked the streets. She could be so much more.

Lifting his hand, his finger grazed the mirror. Under his touch, the mirror rippled like water. The image in the mirror changed, reveling Jewel standing in the mirror. The mirror showed him the past of her, like he wanted. This was her...

The past Jewel had a towel around her shoulders and was wearing a sleeping shirt and shorts. Her hair was damp around her face, sending droplets down her cheek and chest.

"So this is my sister..." He could see how they were twins. There hair was almost the same length tho his was more featured and shorter but her face. He felt as if he were looking at himself in a way. In the background of the mirror, a little girl stepped up. Ace tilted his head and studied the girl. He knew her from when he sent the card to her. She was looking at him in the mirror. He waved his hand at her and she waved back and giggled. Jewel turned to face the girl.

"Who are you waving at?" Jewel asked as she picked the girl up.

"The man in the mirror." Jewel spun around and looked into the mirror. He knew she couldn't see him but Sue could. She was like him in a way. Waving his hand, the image in the mirror changed. Now it showed what happened only a few days prior. It was when Lavender came into the house and explored. He watched thought the mirror the episode with David and the kids leaving.

"So this is the beautiful flower David speaks of...This is who saved my sister." He froze the image of when she passed by the door and smiled. He liked her.

Shutting the mirror down, Ace taped a Ace of Spades card on the mirror and left the house. It was time to go shopping. He had a date with his sister.

Something very odd had happened in that compound. One by one, the prisoners had lost their rifting ability, as had many of the guards. The building was dark; the only light lighting the building was from the moon outside, which drifted to and from being hidden by the clouds. The various inhabitants of the prison looked around, taking in their surroundings as if it were a completely new place.

From deep within that darkened building came the sound of something none of them could ever ignore, the wet splitting noise as a rifter was torn in two by a portal. An escape attempt, cut short by the body's loss of energy.

More noise; the deafening sound of water crashing against rocks, and the loud buzzing of something electric. Much like a regular prison, the building was constructed as multiple levels, with cells lining each wall. The middle of the large building was empty, bare a few walkways connecting each wall. Prisoners and guards made their way to the rails of the walkways and looked up at the usually empty ceiling. This time, the large ceiling was instead the home to a large rift. It flickered in and out of power before becoming solid with a powerful clap. The deafening sound of crashing water doubled as the rift opened. The sound seemed to pour from the rift, much like the water that fell from it like light rain; thunder roared alongside the water, with what seemed like lightning cracking out of the seemingly angry rift.

One of the guards, a young man with pale blonde hair and a deep scar on his right cheek leaned over the railing and looked down. The bottom of the building was a shallow pool, where thin black shadows seemed to swim in the water. Without realising he was speaking outside, he began to recite childhood story to himself.

"Floating, twirling and gliding,

In a world deep underneath,

Dark and cold, though a brilliant place,

Caused by the strangeness beneath,

Electric snakes and strange noises,

Something clamors out of the darkness."

Before he could finish, a voice came from somewhere in the building. Someone was standing in the water beneath them, amongst the swirling snakes in the water. The voice was soft and sweet, and flowed like syrup through everyone's heads.

"Childish and lost,

Dark and slippery,

Dancing amongst the light,

Childish and free,

Locked away underneath,

Drowned to keep us safe,

To keep us in the light."

The voice stopped, and the noise from the rift seemed to stop for a moment, before it raged even louder than before. The water fell in torrents, and the thunder shook the building. The woman was in the water, than on a walkway, then the next walkway higher. She seemed to move between the flashes of lightning. She was now on the same walkway as the others, leaning over the edge like the rest of them.

"They never do get the end of that right."

Lavender was looking out at the city, cigarette perched between her lips. She breathed out a long draw of smoke into the air and looked over at Jewel. "Won't be so much combining when it will be mostly mine, will it?" There was no smile, but there was the slightest sparkle in her eyes as she spoke. "As long as we get in front of someone with each race, I can disperse them to the wrong location. I imagine they might have some different method with their rifts after... last time. You can race, and I can take them out. You're not in the condition to take a physical beating." Lavender stood up and stretched, she had heard something in the apartment hallway but didn't want to startle Jewel. She flicked out her metal rod and made her way inside. "Oh, and I want half of the winnings." She said backwards to Jewel as she made her way into the hallway of her apartment floor.

The floor was always well lit and immaculately clean, but today it was damp and muddy. Lavender stood solid in the hallway and called out. "I can tell by the rift energy you came from a compound. I will tell you to trust me when I say that, I will cause you a lot more pain than they did." She had a skill she hadn't told Jewel about, one she tried to ignore. She hoped she wouldn't have to use it now.

Jewel sat for a second and tried to think about the deal. If Lavender did help her, it was only fair to give her half. But she wanted to be able to get the kids and house and nice thing. Would she be able to do that with 5000? She could also use it to start off. Maybe find a small farm house and take care of them there. If she went back to America, sooner or later they would be taken from her but here, she had more of a chance of keeping them. More of a chance from hiding from the dangers of the government and those who wish to use their power.

But in the end, Jewel didn't have a choice. She didn't have the energy to race properly and Lavender was powerful. Jewel needed her.

"Deal!" Jewel took Lavenders hand with both of hers and shook it. "We will make a great team. I'm already the best racer in the world and your the best rifter! We will be unstoppable!"

Looking at her watch, she sighed and ran her fingers through her hair.

"Go and clean yourself up. Relax for a bit. I need to talk to the kids about the situation. They don't like me racing but they know its how I get money."

That was not the only reason she wanted to get away for a bit. She needed to make a few phone calls and get a few favors in. She wanted to be sure that they were safe in this race and if her bike was okay. When she left it in Germany, she knew a friend took it back to the racing shop but if she was going t be ready for the race in New York at midnight, she would have to make sure she could still do everything with two people sitting on the bike. Weight distribution was very important and in a race like this, it could mean life or death. She had to make sure it could go as face, turn as good and jump as high to get through all the rifts before they closed or before someone attacked. She was always speedy because she was smaller then most the racers and her bike was slim.

Sitting on top of one of the large buildings in New York, Ace watched the people down below. He found it interesting on how life always seemed to continue on for most while others were always trapped. The world was about to change. Most still didn't know of their kind and they blocked out the knowledge out of fear, jealousy, or plain ignorance. Everything would change soon. Now that he was finally free, he could feel the change. Something was coming and came on the wind of change. Soon most the people here will be fighting for their lives. Not because of what was coming, even though that was still a possibly but soon there would be war between the two. Humans did not want them there and the rifters were getting tired of the mistreatment. As they should be.

Ace remember a few years ago, one of the times he almost got out completely, the races started to get big. More people were learning of rifters and their ability to entertain the masses. But one day, one person showed the world that rifters were also being captures, tortured and used for experiments...the world turned their backs. They only cared about the entertainment they got or the money. No one wanted to raise awareness or help stop the abuse, they didn't care enough. Well, now the were going to pay. When the power went out, several dangerous leaders broke out as well. Leaders of human deaths. Leaders of human haters. The moment they power shut down, they were gone with out a trace.

Ace smiled at the thought. Good for them.

Ace stood up and started walking along the edge. He kept his steps close to the very edge, hoping to fall but at the same time not bothering himself with it. He would never fall and die. He would just disappear and reappear like normal. When he got to the end of the building, he walked forward like normal but his body vanished for a moment and then reappeared on the next building, still walking. He know wore a black button up he took from a store, jacket vest with pocket watch included from a man coming from a party and a pair of black leg fitting pants. In one hand, he held onto a top hat and in the other hand was a pack of playing cards. He had a look of danger, mystery and also enchanting beauty. While he walked the streets before, several human girls had stopped him to see if they would take a picture with them. He agreed happily, stealing out of their pockets while they did, and went on his way.

He like this world but...he couldn't wait to see it burn.

Lavender stepped along quietly, her feet barely touching the ground before she took her next step. She began to move quicker, before finally making her way down the street through a number of small rifts. She hopped from rift to rift, following a trail of non-rifters, with an odd air of rift energy around them. The air buzzed with the electricity that rifts generated, and Lavender always enjoyed that feeling. It was part of why she used her metal rod as her weapon, that and it always was fun seeing how rifters reacted to a fellow rifter using a hunter style weapon. Lavender was never bothered by electricity, and rather enjoyed how her body felt after it had been shocked. It didn't hurt her physically, but something inside rifters always seemed to tear apart when they were shocked. That was the feeling they tried to avoid.

Lavender stopped outside of a diner, and through the large windows she noticed someone slip out a side door. Even just with those few seconds, she could see that he was the spitting image of Jewel. Lavender zapped her way after them, and dropped down into the alley they had walked in to. She could feel an angry, familiar energy.

Wind blew into the alleyway, as a storm brewed above the city. Lightning flashed in the distance, and rain began to pelt down from the sky. Heavy drops of rain crashed against Lavender's arms and face. She looked down the alleyway, she was near the entrance from the street. Down the other end was the side door of the diner, where the young man was walking from. Her metal rod slipped down from it's place in her sleeve and landed in her hand. Lavender stood in the middle of the alley and breathed in, then out slowly. She held herself steady for a moment before closing her eyes. A rift opened up above her, a small one that seemed to slip in and out of existence, it shook where it was in the sky before it expanded with a cracking noise, and a flash of purple light. The rift spread out above the alleyway, eventually forming a dome over the alley. The previously dark area was now lit and the two people were able to see each other. The rift crackled angrily with the electricity that ran through it.

She hadn't used this rift for some time, as last time it killed someone. Prison rifts were painful, for everyone involved. They made it difficult for rifters to escape, as the electricity would make any other rifts opened nearby close. They could also branch out and shock anyone who became... unpleasant.

"And I thought your sister was the attractive one, hello there."

Ace could feel the energy building up behind him as he walked, so he slowed his step and waited to see what would happen. It was exciting, finally meeting another rifter outside him old home. He turned to face her and noticed it was the girl in the mirror. His smile grew and his eye lit up. He didn't even need to find her, she came to him.

"You are a powerful one. I could tell when I watched you the other day." He walked in a circle around her, his hands in his pocket and his hat on his head. He was feeding slowly on her energy and it tasted amazing...like lavender and spring time.

"So what do I owe the pleasure, my lady?" He stopped in front of her and bowed. His looked up at her as he did, with a tilted smile.

"You mentioned my sister, yes? Are you her lover? Did you replace that piece of dirt David?" When his name passed Ace's lips, it came out almost like a sneer.

--

Half the kids were asleep or occupying themselves with something. Jewel had a moment to unwind and take a hot bath herself. When she knew Lavender was done and gone, she slipped into the bathroom and started the hot water. The bathroom was beyond beautiful and Jewel never thought she would be able to relax in such a beautiful place. Finding a few candles, she lit them and scattered them safely around the bathroom. Adding bubble to the water, she slipped in and allowed the hot water to mend her aching battle wounds.

Slowly she lowered herself and felt her stress melt away. She could hear the kids softly playing in the background and knew they were fine. if they needed something, they would come and get her.

Closing her eyes and slipping further into the hot water, Jewel looked up at the dark ceiling that was being kissed by the flickering light of the candles. In her hand, hovering over the rim of the tub was the little glass bottle with the Lavander flower. She held it up and twirled it around in her hand, watching the little flower move. Where did that girl go? She was so secretive but she had every right to be. They had only just met and the girl still opened her home to both her and the kids. Maybe she was lonely? Maybe she had other plans?

Resting her hand back down to the edge, she continues to twirl the little bottle around and around. Her eyes closed and she allowed herself to relax. For now.

Lavender stopped where she was and smiled, then the wall fell, and so did her energy. The slow feed of energy came to a halt. Lavender dropped, and came up the other side of Ace, behind him.

"Lover? Certainly not, too many kids. I'm not used to more than one person in my bed but... oohh I might make an exception for you. " Lavender spoke slowly, with this tiny hint of playfulness to her words. She danced around Ace, dropping and reappearing behind him. Finally she sat on a bench, and patted the spot next to her.

"Now... Ace? As much as I'd love to stay and chat, and play in a sense, I'm curious about something." Sh rested her hands on her knees and leant forward, watching him. "Why do you have almost 200 year old rift energy on your body?'

Lavender popped up behind him hands on his shoulders and just loud to hear asked him, 'when I'm not on it?'

Back on the bench and she watched him, her smile had faded somewhat and now she looked more cross than anything. It was an old energy, far older than she thought possible. An angry, powerful energy that felt as if it would kill a person to use. The feel of it hurt her enough, let alone ever using it.

"Anywho, I need a shower, been a long day.' So she faded off again, and found herself back in her apartment. The kids had fallen asleep in her lounge, and popcorn and chips had found it's way on to the carpet. Lavender let out a sigh and made her way to the balcony, where she curled up on her outdoor bench and looked at the sky. It was raining softly over the city, with lightning off in the distance.

Did she want company? Was she sick of the kids and Jewel? She was sore, dirty and exhausted. She would spend the next day cleaning the apartment, and doing some grocery shopping.

As she planned her day, she fell into a half sleep. The sounds around her were relaxing, and blocked out her thoughts.

"Why? What a perfect question." Ace watched Lavender as she fluttered around him and flirted. He knew what her game was but her energy was intoxicating and he didn't mind playing.

As she drew close to him the few times, he was able to pick up more than one energy. Davids for a moment, the little girl...and Jewel. He hadn't been able to pinpoint her location just yet. But now he could.

He was able to contact the child but her energy was most blocked due to her age and it would hurt her if he used her. He didn't like hurting other rifters unless they were there to hurt him first. Rifters would soon need to join together to wipe the humans off the map finally and the children were the most important. But that wasn't his job. He would not partake in this portion of history. He planned on watching this new world burn. Too many times did he play his role and he was tired of it.

Before she disappeared, Ace took her hand and planted a kiss on her knuckles. A second later she was gone but his smile stayed.

The rain started to trickle down into the alleyway as Ace strolled away from the meeting place. His hands were in his pockets again and he looked up into the night sky, clustered with storm clouds and flashes of lightning here and there.

--

Sitting on the dam wall that overlooked a city in the mountains, a young woman with the left side of her head shaved and the rest flipped over to cascade over her shoulder. The side that was shaved also had scars that marked her face and blinded her left eye. Her right eye could see everything and more but she didn't need her sight to see. She only needed the energy around her. Sitting next to her, on her left, was a little girl with bouncy blonde curls, a bow, and blue eyes. Clutched in her hand was a small teddy bear with a pink bow that matched her own. On the woman's right sat a young man with green hair and several piercings. All three watched the town in silence. The night had unfolded before them and allowed the small town to light their street lamps and safely tuck themselves in their beds.

The woman, Fina, was one of the first to escape the compound when the power went out. The little girl, Mirial, was at her side like always. Grim was the last one to leave but the first to find them. All of them use to be well known but the world decided to put their acts against humanity behind them the moment they got locked up.

"Where's Ace?" The little girls voice was sweet but her eyes were almost dead and cold.

"Why does it matter where he is?" Grim replied hastily. Ace and Grim never got along. Could be from all the times Ace almost killed him.

"Quiet, both of you." Fina spoke but her eyes didn't leave the city, "I'm trying to concentrate."

"Why? We know what we need to do...so why not get it over with so we can do something more fun." Grim laid back on the all and looked up at the sky.

"I'm waiting for the perfect moment."

"For?"

"When all the humans are tucked into bed. These are the creators of our jail and the monitors of our power. They are the little annoying seeds that helped those people hurt us. How do you stop a seed from taking root?"

Grim smiled and sat up, watching Fina in the night sky. "You drown it."

Both Grim and Mirial stood and stepped off the edge. They raised their hands into the air and Fina could feel the electricity surge around them. Down below, the town lights went out. A complete blackout. By now, people would be up and flipping breakers or out on the streets. It was perfect.

A large rift, almost the size of the damn, opened below the three and water came pouring out. A tidal wave crashed towards the city as the people screams in fear. They knew their end was near and when people came in the morning to see how the dam broke, they won't see a crack and everything will be as it should. The town bellow would be wiped out and become a memory of fear to the humans.

"Time to go." Fina stood with the other and one by one they dropped into a new rift as the large one closed with the last of the water. Mirial was the last one left. As she closed the rift, she took the energy with her. No one would be able to follow their footsteps into their pocket between rifts.

--

Stepping out of the bath, clean and relaxed, Jewel dressed in a tank and shorts she had stuffed into her backpack. She would need to go out tonight to get the kids clothes and food. When she found the kids, she noticed the mess they made and shook her head. She would need to get them in their proper places for sleep before she could leave.

Stepping out onto the balcony Jewel, at first, didn't notice Lavender curled up and asleep. When she turned and saw her, she almost jumped out of her skin. She had no clue that she was back. Quietly, Jewel stepped to her and lifted her into her arms. She was easy to carry since Jewel had strength in her arms due to her racing and other things. Making sure not to move her much or wake her, Jewel carried Lavender into her room and placed her into bed. She pulled the covers up around her and sighed. Even though Lavender did not show it much to her, she was the only kindness that Jewel had ever seen in the harsh world.

Reaching forward, Jewel brushed a piece of hair away from her face and lingered her fingers there for only a moment.

She stepped back and left the room.

Knowing the kids were heavy sleepers, she was able to create pallets for each of them and lay them side by side. Two were on the sofa, while the others on the floor. She made herself a pallet with what was left but she knew she wouldn't sleep with them yet. Next, she cleaned everything to the best of her ability. She made as little noise as possible but it look much nicer than before. She would have to get onto the kids about personal space in the morning. This was not a house they could mess up. They would need to take responsibility for their actions.

Once everything was done, Jewel threw on a pair of pants over her shorts and a leather jacket.

During the night, she would jump from different stores and take only what she needed for the kids. Each place she tried to leave what ever money she could but in the end had to make a promise to come back one night and repay them when the race was over.

When she returned back to the apartment, she laid out the new clothes for each one and smiled. They were going to love their new and clean things.

Finally, she was able to nest herself on the floor. She didnt sleep but instead watched the dark sky through the windows.

"Oh nurse, finally, I've been buzzing for an age." An elderly woman moaned. She was tucked into her hospital bed, with the back upright to allow her to sit and read her book. A young woman came into the room, followed by another. The two girls were exactly the same in height, appearance, weight, colour and mannerisms. They had matching clothes, right down to the buttons on their dresses. The dresses were rather outstanding, ruffles and rich fabrics, small crystal skullls added as embellishments. Knee high lacey boots, with ruffled socks peeking out the top. The girls stood at the end of the bed with their hands together, hanging in front of them.

"Mallory June Smith." The one on the left said.

"You have been judged, and sentenced." Said the right girl.

"5 counts of murder of children, buried beneath the pond at your house.

"Sentence; death."

The woman, Mallory, sat back in her bed frightened as both girls stepped forward, suddenly with long staffs in their hand.

You choose. Right or left, choose correctly and you live." Said the two girls in unision.

The woman shook in her bed and with her trembling hand, pointed to the left hand girl.

"Incorrect." The girl said, a single word before stepping forward, raising her staff and plunging it down. It sank into the body of the elderly woman, who let out an otherworldly scream as her body was absorbed into the staff. The room was flooded with purple light, giving off a strong signal of rift like energy, before vanishing just as quickly.

The girls stood side by side once again, no staffs in sight. The girls held hands and with a quick nod, disappeared into thin air. No rift in sight.

--

The white haired woman was in the streets of paris, wandering about. She was still damp, an effect of her...symptoms, she guessed. A blast of energy somewhere int he city crashed through her body, then vanished. An energy she wasn not happy by, an energy older than her, older than the city and everyone in it.

Jewel woke gasping for air. It was still dark out and the sun was just starting to rise in the distance. She felt like someone had punched her in the stomach and made her sick. Each of the kids was still asleep and curled up around her. Sue was sitting up and looking out the window as well.

"Sue, what's wrong?" Jewel whispered and crawled over to her.

"The bad people are out." Her voice was thin. Jewel pulled Sue into her lap and rocked her.

"It's okay. The bad people won't get you anymore. David is a long way away."

"Not him. The bad people. Like us."

Jewel said nothing, a bit confused but also a bit concerned. She didn't know what to say about the fact, so instead she rocked Sue back and forth until she was asleep.

Time was ticking before the race and she was, for once, nervous.

The sun crawled up into the morning sky as Jewel sat there with Sue. Little did she know what was showing on the news. A murder in a hospital, a town flooded, and several other incidents. Humans giving minor outcries for justice and blaming the rifters. Nothing is official but tension starts to rise.

Now that it was morning, it would be almost time for the race across the world. A gut feeling told her to drop but she couldn't. She had to do this for this kids.

Laying Sue down, Jewel went out onto the balcony and pulled out her phone. She checked her stats and noticed that they had gone up higher then ever. Several races around the world have already taken place. The list of races showed the faces and stats on her phone. Anyone with a red x over their face meant they lost. Those who were grayed out meant they died. There were a lot of grays this time.

They would need to get to the shop in New York soon to get the bike set up and everything ready. She needed Lavender up.

Walking to her door, she knocked softly and cracked it open. Jewel poked her head in to see if the girl was already awake or if she needed to wake her.

--

Ace walked back and forth through the shop, taking in all the bikes and their riders. He didn't have a bike before but he was able to get a nice one from a rider in Canada. He didn't kill her for it, since he didn't believe in killing rifters, but he did leave her there. Hopefully she was smart enough to jump home before freezing to death.

At the end of the row, a bike sat unattended. He would feel Jewel's energy on it and smiled. Taking out an Ace of Spades card, he placed it on the bike and left.

Lavender had already been awake for some time. She was sitting at an of white vanity in her room, doing the last few finishing coats of mascara. A half finished cup of coffee sat next to her, as well as a croissant with a few bites taken out of it. "Race stats are funny this time, you're worth a damn lot to bet on dear." She said, looking at Jewel peeking in through the mirror. Lavender stood up and waked over. "Oh and dear? Keep the stealing for when you're not with me." And with that, Lavender reached out, and as she grabbed Jewel's wrist the two of them dropped. The drop felt longer than normal this time but they came up in the mechanics bay, as it began to bustle with other racers. Racers, mechanics and news reporters bustled together, some mingling and some trying to avoid the cameras and microphones.

Everyone seemed on edge, more so than usual, something had obviously happened to make everyone so nervous.

A camera flashed behind the two girls, and they turned to find a number of cameras in their face.

"Jewel!" A middle aged woman said excitedly as she held a microphone out to Jewel's face. "Obviously a very, very exciting day for you! Any post race jitters? Any tactics for this race? And whoooooo is this! A new race partner or, life partner perhaps? Hmm? We don't judge here!" The lady just kept going, question after question. "Of course we're all interested in your thoughts on the last race! 6 racers, just gone! In one portal, but no one came out at the end. A very lucky win for Miss Casey who was in last place up until that point."

Lavender was bored of this now, they had to get ready. With Jewel's wrist in hand, she pushed the woman aside and made her way over t the bike she figured was Jewel's, as it was on it's own. "You get your bike ready, and I'll meet you at the race start." She said, before making her way off through the crowd. She wanted to scope out the other racers.

Jewel followed along past the reporters and knew she would give them what they wanted after the race. When they passed one camera, she was able to steal a wink into it and made some of the reporters go wild. She couldn't help but laugh at them.

Seeing her bike, all cleaned from the last race, Jewel couldn't help but smile. This was her baby. She loved this bike and it took her a long time to get one as good as this.

"Be careful. I'm going to make sure there was not foul play done to my baby." She said before Lavender could disappear.

After a few minutes, since she knew her bike so well, she noticed a playing card attached to it.

"Looking good." A voice came from behind her. Jewel whirled around and placed a hand over her heart.

"Jesus, don't sneak up on people." It was Baker. One of her long time race buddies. He had been racing for as long as she had but he didn't do it for the money and he wasn't that good at it to begin with.

"Sorry, just wanted to wish you luck before you start." He gave her a quick hug.

"Wait, are you not racing? I saw you on the Stat board."

"I dropped out an hour ago. Too many deaths, this time, around. I can't afford to lose my life when I have such good looks to carry on to a son or something."

Jewel rolled her eyes and gave him another hug.

"Win for me, though. Lots of asses in the race tonight. Even Juno is racing." He stepped back and was about to turn.

"Shit, Juno? I thought he quit after he kissed my ass last time." Jewel laughed.

"Nope, and I heard he's aiming for your head. I also heard you got a budy this time. Is that wise?"

"Shes powerful and can help me concentrate on not getting shot or killed by a rift."

"Well, good luck. Watch out for that ass."

Baker walked away and into the crowd outside the bike shop. Not long after, Jewel came out with her bike, leather riding suit and black helmet. She also had a second one hanging on the seat for Lavender.

It took her a moment to get through the crowd but she was able to make it to her spot with Lavender.

"Excited?" As she spoke, she looked around to see who all had shown. Baker was right about Juno. He was sitting on his bike watching her.

She blew him a kiss and he flipped her off and looked away.

"Watch for that one. He may try to kill us. Speaking of, when your not opening rifts for me, give me warnings of anyone who may attack. We are not allowed to open a rift sooner then rift point, so not dumping people into the sea but if we make it through and you want to change the rift...be my guest."

Lavender climbed onto the bike behind Jewel and looked over at Juno. She felt the energy. She leant forward and whispered to Jewel. "Quick at opening and closing rifts, but not very accurate with where they open. Today may be different, they're left hand is injured, their dominant hand." She looked around, scanning and figuring out the other racers. A young girl sat at the front of the group; sixteen, the youngest allowed to race. Bright red hair, green eyes and a large burn mark on their neck.

A siren buzzed and the racers moved to the start line.

"Ladies and gentleman! I know what you're all here for, and I know you want it right now!" A voice echoed out over the stadium. A male voice, young and excited. A good salesman voice. "First, a few housekeeping rules! Weapons allowed, this race is all for nothing! You die? You're oouuuut! Racers please remember, you can not use affect or alter any new or existing portals until you have passed each set of yellow rift markers! Rifts are already set up but you have to open them yourself, location will always be correct. We've taken extra care this time to avoid any incidetns so please, everyone play nice and fair, but not necessarily safe! Racers, are you ready?!" The crowd cheered as a loud buzzer went off, followed by a gunshot. The racers took off, all in a neat pack until a few started to move ahead or fall behind.

"Keep whoever you want gone, nice and close lovely!" Lavender called to jewel as she stood up on the back of the bike, ready.

Jewel could feel her body spark with excitement. Once she won this one, she would be able to take part in the largest one and win that beautiful money. Then she could be out of Lavenders hair and give the kids what they needed.

When the buzzer went off, Jewel went for it.

She leaned her body down for better air flow and zipped through the different races in front of her. Somewhere easy to get past but others she knew would take a few jumps to get in first place. She estimated about the third jump would do it.

The course turned and all the bikers were now one a main street with very little in their way. It was too easy but typically the first jump was.

A sound of a motor came up from behind her and a racer tried to get close. He had a bat with a large nail sticking out the end and he was swinging it, ready to take her out. Ahead of her was a large ramp and a huge rift that opened into another part of the city.

"Take the fucker out and hold on!" Jewel upped her speed right before she hit the ramp. They flew through the air and into the first rift. Jewel yelled with excitement as they flew but it was soon cut off my a large truck honking at her.

They had ended up in a large busy street that had oncoming traffic. Not the first time they placed the rifters into traffic but this was the largest one they had ever seen. Jewel did her best to dodge every car and keep Lavender safe behind her.

Lavender, was up and ready to go, without warning she had jumped forward over Jewel. She jumped between trucks and cars, leaping from small rift to small rift. Horns honked as people knew something had nearly hit them but couldn't quite tell what. At last she found the one with the bat and with just the right amount of luck, managed to grab a hold of the bike. The bike was heavier than Jewel's, making it easier for Lavender to hold tight to it. The racer was obviously not expecting this, as he kept looking back to Lavender he tried his best to avoid the trucks and cars speeding around them.

He swung and brought the bat down towards Lavender, who was now already on the opposite side of the bike, which was swerving some what now. The bike raced forward, accelerating and disappeared into a rift just large enough for the bike and riders. The rift opened up over a very open, empty far field, which the bike and racer fell towards. Lavender had already let go and fallen into her own new rift, which disappeared in a flash.

Lavender was back on the bike, as they were coming up to the next rift. She could feel it.

She felt herself pull forward as she looked through the rift to see where they were headed. "Shit, Jewel! False rift, skip it, skip it completely!"

Going full speed, Jewel swerved around and saw the rift she was talking about. It was coming right up on them.

"Fuck!" Jewel turned her bike and skidded around it. She barely made it past and she could feel the heat from the edges as she went around it. Several others jumped in behind her while others took her lead and followed her path.

"I need you to locate the correct rift before our time is up. We can't be stuck out here too long or we lose our place."

Jewel took the back alleyways and did everything she could to cut through the course and get ahead.

Someone behind her started to shoot at them. She hoped Lavender would help them avoid the bullets but she didn't know if she could locate and protect them at the same time and Jewel still didn't have enough energy needed for the race. Turning her head for a small second, she could see that it was Juno chasing her with four others. They all had guns and they all were headed for head. One came up beside them and tried to pistol whip her. Jewel dunked quickly and kicked at his bike, making him swerve into a trash dumpster.

A few bullets rang past her but she did her best to keep low and pray that Lavender wasn't hit. They needed to get back into open space but it was against the rules to rift to the next rift. They needed to find it. Jewel was positive that it opened to Tokyo.

Lavender was standing, with her hands on Jewel's shoulders as she looked ahead. The bullets whizzing past didn't bother me until one grazed past her shoulder, slicing her skin ever so slightly. Lavender's grip tightened, her nails digging into jewel's shoulders, then she turned around.

"I think I have it, give me a moment."

Lavender raised one hand, her hand open wide. The bullets kept coming, and Lavender was able to open a rift just quick enough to catch one. The rift closed, and he bullet vanished into thin air, well that is, until the rift reopened behind the person who had fired it. The bullet rocketed forward into the wrist of the person that had shot. The racer grabbed their injured wrist out of reflex and swerved to bike, hitting another racer in the process.

"Jewel I know where it is." Lavender said as she turned back around and sat down. "Keep going this direction until there's a huge red brick building, then go left as sharp as possible. It's down that street underneath a bridge. Tokyo, downtown. We'll be heading out into some train tunnels it looks like, so keep headlights dim."

The racers kept speed, focused on the two girls now. Lavender pulled her little metal rod out, ready for the next rift.

Jewel nodded but she didn't know if Lavender could even see her motion. She trusted her enough to not get them killed so she followed her directions while avoiding bullets. Knowing these streets better than she knew herself, she was able to find the best shortcut that would loose their chasers. It adds a few seconds to their time but that was better than being shot by the crazies after them.

Turning the corner quickly, Jewel saw the bridge and upped the gas. Her body leaned close to her bike, allowing air to flow past her easily. They were behind in the race thanks to the little back alley adventure but she had a feeling that was one of the reasons they went after her. If they can keep her behind, that can be just as deadly as the race. At the same time, since there was a false opening...it could mean she may be ahead due to others taking the wrong jump. She knew some pretty powerful rifters in the race that would feel it but there were a lot who didn't know how to tie their damn shoe, let alone call out a false rift.

The opening was close by and Jewel could see through it and see above the sky scrappers in Tokyo. This was a double jump. She didn't expect one so soon in the race. Guess they were looking to get as many people out as possible.

"Hold on! We are going to jump into the air and we need more speed to make it."

Jewel worried that their alley riding may have caused them to loose speed. Hitting the gas as hard as she could, Jewel shot through the rift and they were now flying through the night sky. Ahead and just below them was another rift open that lead to the streets rooftops of the buildings scattered around the city. This was going to be difficult but typically if you kept in a straight line, you could go through each rift safely without haveing to jump again or fall off a building to your death. The rifts were smaller, so they only allowed one or two bikes through at a time.

But first, they needed to make it through the first one and not die.

Jewel took a small look at the streets below and imagined the horror of falling. Her heart picked up once she looked back to the rift and noticed that they would make it though.

They hit a roof but behind her she could hear the screams of one of the bikers from before missing and falling to their death.

Using the bit of her energy left, she opened a rift under the man and allowed him to safely hit the ground below before closing it again. Other may want to kill and turn their head in this game, she could.

Hearing more bikes approaching, Jewel speed through the rifts while jumping from roof to roof waiting for the rift that would take them to their third location. Berlin.

Lavender cricked her neck and with a stern face, stood behind Jewel. It was the evening in Tokyo, and the bright lights of the city buildings blurred as they rushed past. With one last quick breath in, she let go of Jewel's shoulders and was thrown back off the bike by the force of their bike rushing forward.

Don't get killed, don't lose track of where they are. She thought to herself, as she fell back through the sky, over the edge of a building and straight into the rift of another racer. The rift was exactly where she had felt it as they flew overhead. It was small, but sloppy and obviously done in a hurry. Lavender held herself still, and stopped in the middle of the rift's tunnel. She hung there in the air, surrounded by a buzz of rift energy. It was warm and shocked her skin with small touches, like pin pricks. She found it just in time, the exit portal and with a smile and rather elaborate hand gesture, pulled it closed. She heard a shocked scream in the distance as she felt herself fling upwards out of the rift, flying upwards into a rift of her own, coming out behind Jewel's bike, landing on the backseat of another racer's bike.

Lavender raised the metal rod in her hand, which made the racer smirk in the mirror. A small rod? How useless.

The rod extended in a single movement, just before Lavender's hands spun it around and straight into the back of the racer. The racer's body shook as the rod sent electricity through their body; once they had gone limp Lavender threw the body off of the bike and took the racer's place. She held her hands firmly on the handles as she followed after Jewel.

She watched Jewel and noticed something; a huge problem. Lavender stood, and waved at the camera's that were broadcasting the race. With a small tilt and wave of her hand, she threw her rod at the camera, hitting it right through the lens.

Lavender leaped forward as Jewel's bike began to weave on it's own, the wheels locking into a skid. Lavender grabbed Jewel by the collar, and pulled the two of them through a rift.

Far off now, on the race path Jewel's bike exploded into a small, very impressive fireball.

When Lavender fell back from the bike, Jewel didn't bother looking back to see if she was okay. She knew she was doing something to help with the racing odd and saving their asses, so she continued forward. She had landed on one large roof building and was about to speed across but something felt off. Her bike was not doing what it was supposed to and it felt out of her control. The brakes stopped working and it started to move out of control.

At first, she didn't know what to do but then Jewel let out a small scream as she got pulled back off her bike and watched as it exploded. Her face was white with horror as she watched but her helmet hid her face from Lavender. This was her bike for the longest time. Lost's of bikers in the races would lose their bikes but she had always been lucky and have taken care of hers. Now it was gone in a fire.

Turning and clutching onto Lavender, Jewel held back a scream of frustration and anger. She didn't care how it happened but someone was going to pay for doing that to her bike and now she was further behind. If she lost this race, she lost her chance of the finals and getting that money for the kids.

"We cannot lose this race..." Jewel held onto Lavender for a second and then turned around to get ready to ride again. Who's ever this bike belong to, didn't need it. It was hers now till she could get a new one.

The rift to Berlin was in front of them but if they didn't hurry, it would close and they would miss their chance for good.

Sitting in front of Lavender quickly and taking control of the bike, Jewel hit the gas and speed forward.

While fire filled her veins, Jewel took them through the rfit. She was done playing with these fools.

The area they landed had them in the middle of a blocked off but use to be a public street. Normally she would speed forward but they had to stop the moment they landed. Five men with guns surrounded them with guns, all pointed at them. They were other racers. Jewel guessed an order had been put out to kill her to everyone, so she couldn't win the race. She was about ready to allow Lavender to take care of them but the sound of a motor came from the closing rift behind her. Jewel turned her head and saw a black red bike jump out and landed in front of them. Jewel wondered if this was their leader but the guy landed with his back turn to them. The men surrounding them took a step back but raced their guns.

"Who the fuck is this?" Jewel said out loud.

The man turned his head and looked straight at Lavender. He wore a black helmet that hid his features but he figured Lavender would be able to feel him.

Ace turned back to the men and clapped his hands. The men started to look scared, so Jewel took the opportunity to get past them and let this man have his fun with them. She didn't know if Lavender would stay but Jewel had to keep going or she wouldn't make the race.

Lavender let go of the bike, falling back again as Ace was busying himself. You motherfucker. She thought to herself. Debris from the bike had managed to shoot through the rift after them, clattering onto the road. A straight cut had appeared on Lavender's cheek, from the tip of her ear down to her chin. A neat cut, but quite deep. She landed softly on her feet amongst the men, another rod falling from her sleeve into her palm.

"Good to see you again buddy, long time no see." She said out loud to Ace as the men turned to see her, shocked. Like a sudden tick, the men began to attack. Lavender had little trouble dodging around the flurry of bullets. She fell through the ground, dropping down on one the men seconds later. The rod was buried deep into his neck, which she pulled out of his twitching body that was laying on the floor.

She flipped the rod, holding it upwards in her hand, flicking the man's blood across the walls around them. She let the rod fall to it's smaller state before she quickly placed it back inside her sleeve. The men stopped, standing still. They fell to the ground, onto theirs knees as they held their ears with their hands. Like something was hurting their heads. Lavender watched them, her eyes moving from the men to Ace.

A voice boomed out over them, feeding from the race speakers. "Tobias Alexander Jones, you have been judged." The soft voice came from the speakers above them. Lavender stepped forward and grabbed Ace, as she formed a rift beneath them. The two fell gently back onto a rooftop where they could see one of the screens of the crowds. It had changed to filming two girls, matching in every way possible. The girl on the right was speaking. "Sophia Margaret Lacel, Macey Jones Appletree, Thomas Patches Smith, you have also been judged. You will make a decision as a group, right or left. Choose correctly."

Minutes later a young girl walked up to the two girls, shaking as she handed them a piece of paper. She ran as soon as it left her hand.

The girls spoke again, this time in perfect unison. "You have been judged. Numerous counts of purposeful endangerment, profiteering from the deaths of racers, and the purposeful sharing of intelligence with anti-rifter organisations. Judged and sentenced to death. You have chosen, incorrectly."

As soon as the mouths closed, bright flashes of purple light came from around the arena seating, along with the screams of those named. The arena was silent, then fell into chaos as the thousands of viewers began to leave the stadium.

Ace landed gracefully beside Lavender and watched the screen in amusement. Everything was coming along nicely and he wasn't having to play a part in it anymore. For once, he was able to sit back and watch the world fall apart. He took his helmet off and smiled at the punishment that was being displayed. The purple light only made Ace smile more. He knew that even if the viewers in the stadium left, the broadcast would continue on. Too many people had placed money into this game and into the remaining jumpers.

Grabbing a phone he had swiped from another, he pulled up the scoreboard on the screen and looked for Jewel.

"I wonder how my dear sister is doing."

--

Jewel zipped through the streets while passing a few others jumpers. A bright purple light filled the sky but Jewel did her best to ignore it and push forward. The bike she was using was not as good as her own but she was still better than the rest of the jumpers. She was now in third place and was closing in on second. She was slightly worried about how Lavender was handling herself but she knew that she would be okay.

As the second jumper came into view, she noticed that he was starting to slow down. First, Jewel believed that he was slowing down to attack her but she noticed that he was looking into the sky at the direction the purple light came from. Jewel came in close and rode beside him while she could. The man turned to her and did a I'm cutting out' signal to her.

He was quitting? While this close to the end? The top 10 racers would continue on for the next race, so why was he leaving? Was he that scared of the purple light.

Jewel only nodded and speed forward as he fell back and fell into his own rift to leave. It was a new racer, so she didnt know who it was behind the helmet but clearly he was scared enough to loose.

--

"She seems to be doing quite nice. And he bet amount has tripled in the last hour." Ace threw the phone behind him and turned to Lavender. "It's been a pleasure my dear but I have some business to attend to." He took Lavenders hand and kissed the back of it while bowing like a gentleman. The moment his lips left her hand, he was gone.

--

Jewel was getting close to the final jump. She didn't know where it was going to end up but the final jump was always the hardest.

Lavender pulled her hand into a fist, dropping down and landing on the back of Jewel's bike. Lavender leant forward and fiddled with the bike's radio before settling back into her seat. There was no one to fight now. The radio began to feed audio and the two of them were able to listen to the broadcast.

"Jewel Konstantine, Alexander James Konstantine and Lavender Mullery. You have all been judged. Alexander you are warned, you are interfering with something above you. Do not step out of line." Then the voices stopped, and all that was audible was the screams as people raced from the arena.

Lavender switched the radio off and the two rode in silence for a few moments, until a rift opened in front of them. The two girls stepped from the rift, ruffled skirts billowing in the wind. They raised two long staffs above their heads and at once spoke. "Sentence; death." Before bringing the staffs down towards Jewel and Lavender.

Lavender grabbed jewel, pulling the two of them off the bike, and onto the road. They hit the ground and rolled, to a stop at another rift. Again the staff came for them, as the girls came from this new rift.

"Jewel, you're gonna have to hold on really tight, I'm gonna do something kind of stupid."

The girl was young, but strong. Strong in a sense of witchcraft, power not fit for humans. Was she human? She had been thrown to the ocean, into the water the townspeople knew to be dangerous. The eels swarmed as the girl sank, excited for a meal. They did not want her yet so they waited for her to drown. She did not. They waited for her heart to stop, it did not. The girl sat on the bottom of the water, bound, for weeks. New eels arrived and soon the water was full, and there was little other fish for the townsfolk to eat.

The townsfolk began to die, and some moved away to safer areas for food. The eels current no longer bothered the girl, she lived on it, and grew to enjoy the feel of the electricity.

She was peaceful living underneath the water, half asleep. A splash in the water above, someone flailing to keep afloat. The eels were not welcoming, and the girl grew angry at being woken. Her bindings had long been rotted by the water. She grew restless, and began to pull at the energy around her.

Jewel cried out in pain as she hit the ground and rolled. Her arm had landed wrong and was now jammed into her should socket. The purple light would have been almost blinding to her if she hadn't been wearing her helmet during the attack.

Jewel did as she was told and trusted Lavender completely. There was no lie that she suddenly wasn't scared but she knew that if anyone could save their asses it was Lavender. Her energy was still low from the time before and the attack with Dacid had drained he almost completely. It would be days before you could build up to the same amount of energy.

As the girls came towards them and they spoke their name, one thing threw her off guard majorly. They had called out a name of someone with the same last name as her. It sounded like a boy name but she knew that had to be wrong. She was an only child.

--

Ace growled from his spot in one of the buildings over looking the scene. He normally didn't care what the girls did or what any of the other rifters did but they were not attack other rifters and also his sister and friend. Dark energy started to swirl around him as he watch. He couldn't do much due to the fact that he wanted to see how strong Lavender was and what would happen. If things got out of hand, he would step in. He wouldn't be able to help himself. Rifters stick together. Once the world was rid of humans, only rifters would exist and they would need each other.
