Return of the Shogun

I was wondering if anybody has used this theme in their games.  I was rereading the chapter of Lookshy in the Scavenger Lands book.  Does anybody have plans to use it or have used it?

do you mean the last shogun having survived up until now? Or someone returning who can PROVE he is of the right lineage.

(though lookshy MIGHT be willing, practicaly, to recognize someone who is both a skilled general and politician)

Well I've thought of it a bit.

but my current game :(A half caste one) Is relatively low scale...

the new shogun, would likely... once their lineage was conclusively proven (WITH Magic of course) likely be accepted with open arms by lookshy.

the rest of the threshold, though would be rather nervous the realm might immediatly decide to assasinate him

I had the idea for a Sidereal character who has eschewed both factions' goals, and instead wants to restore the Shogunate.

Tricky thing is, the game's plot would kind of have to be custom tailored around this guy, and my opportunities to actually play a PC are few and far between, so it hasn't come to pass yet.

I could, yes, but I find playing out such characters vicariously as NPCs to be wholly unsatisfying.

Why don't you just ask, instead of asking for permission to ask?

How do you think you avoid avatarism in situations where it seems easy for it to happen,  (for example, in a god blooded game, or any other game involving charachters being emplyed on a permanent or semiparment basis by some supernatural entity

To answer alohahaha's original question, yes, I have used this theme. The Shogun and several of his advisors had been frozen much like the DKs had been. Freeze dried if you will, and thawed out from the North. All hell broke loose shortly thereafter.

I've also touched off it slightly (though only slightly) in my current DB game. I've got a Hard-on for all things Lookshy and so, the re-establishment of the Shogunate seems like the natural order asserting itself to me.

Hmm, we do have a board full of gamers here and we're all online...  Anyone else out there who doesn't mind playing a game where one character's plot was the central one?

PS - Was the plot that this guy IS of the Shogun lineage or that he knew were a proper one was and he wanted to bring that person into power?

That's neat.  Reminds me a lot of the legend of King Arthur and his return from Avalon.

Good eye   :D

I based it on such. But it was interesting nonetheless. "Oh shit, guys! The man from our history lessons is here!!"

Y'all are welcome to run w/ the idea, but I'm not really into online gaming. At least, not right now.

The idea was that he spent a few years digging through the Bureau of Humanity's records, and found the name of someone of the appropriate lineage. However, he doesn't know where this guy is. Furthermore, he doesn't want to put this guy in power.

What he plans to do once he's found this guy is breed him with the Empress' lineage, then take the resulting kid away and mold him into an appropriate puppet.

He'll then have the man rise to power in Lookshy as Shogun, while also claiming himself as an heir to the Scarlet Throne. He would then mobilize Lookshy against the weakened and headless Realm, take over, and re-establish the Shogunate.

That's the plan, at least.

Actually another good conspiracy plot, in the new Scavenger Lands book. Lookshy executed the direct descendant of the Shogun after the Contagion when he rose up claiming his authority and had evidence to back it up...

That was Kejak's doing, all the way.

The closing comic of the new DB book features The Roseblack contemplating becoming shogun. (Looks like she's being sent against either the Mask of Winters or the Bull of the North, though.)

I got an idea about a Sidereal who was able to create extremely minor changes to Fate without any of his colleagues realizing it that caused the bloodline to scatter during the Great Contaigion and the Fair Folk invasion, the better for it to survive.  Then, just as the Scarlet Empress was establishing herself, he worked to bring it back together until one was of strong enough blood to Exalt.  I had an idea where those of he bloodline had a special birthmark, but one that only showed up on the Dragon-Blooded.  This showed up on a Terrestrial of the River Province and that Sidereal has made moves for him to confront his Fate.

And then I thought of what a crapstorm that would make.  Lookshy is the obvious place to accept him but then again the Gentes and the General Staff wouldn't give up all of their power right away so the heir would have to fight militarily and politically to truly gain control of the city.  He would have to duke it out with those most likely to follow him first.

If the heir would take control of Lookshy, then the city would probably be in a frenzy to rebuild the Shogunate, which would make the other nations of the Confederation of Rivers very wary because Lookshy, the city that tries to maintain stability in the region, would be instable.  Not only that  but they'd most likely be out to conquer them and establish the Shogunate throughout the River Province.  Also, since most of the officers of the other cities are trained by Lookshyans, most of their militaries would be compromised.

Another thing is that the heir would have a claim to the rule of the Blessed Isle that comes before the Scarlet Empress.  This would give the heir a possibility to supplant the entire Dynasty, especially now that it's in such turmoil in the battle of succession.  While the Dynasty ignores its satrapies in the Threshold, the legions under the heir could sweep through and conquer the holdings for himself, rebuilding the Shogunate in the Threshold and choking the Blessed Isle of resources before taking the fight to the Blessed Isle itself.  One thing that could potentially happen is that Memnon would seek a marriage to the heir, so she could legitimize herself for the Threshold and so he could legitimize himself to the Blessed Isle.  Of course, the other Houses might not be for this, and would rather he marry the Roseblack instead.

(Stealing from CW) the heir would hear about an ancient manse in the North that was a bunker for the Shogun to go to in case of an emergency.  Imagining powerful artifacts from that era, they break in and go against the traps inside.  One of the powerful artifacts they find is the stasis chamber that the Shogun resides in.  This adds another hurdle to the heir, as the Shogun himself seeks to take the heir's army and territory for himself, despite the fact that he knows little of Creation at the moment.  Will they fight against each other or join forces to build a Shogunate and then after it's been reestablished struggle with each other to control it?

And all of this goes on while the Chosen of the Unconquered Sun seek to recreate the Solar Deliberative...

Yeah, I was gonna mention this too. Could be a neat way to run the storyline. Plus it would add a new legion to Lookshy's arsenal, as the Vermillion Legion seems fanatically loyal to Ejava.

What makes you say MoW? I can kinda see BotN given its what ruined her grandfather's career, so that could be what they are hoping for with her too.

Consider this yoinked my good man' date=' to make with my own means ;D[/quote']
If you want to yoink another idea going with this, why don't you say that the Shogun who was found in the stasis chamber isn't really the Shogun but rather a Lunar of the Silver Pact who managed to get his heart's blood and just started to impersonate him when he was taken to the stasis chamber.
