Red Is The Color Of Love

Cassie-Roll

Stuck in a Solo Adventure in the Trash Bin
Hikaru was a stoic guy, nineteen years old and numb to most of his life already. He didn't talk much, preferring silence over mindless chatter. He never really got surprised by anything, his emotions were locked away, that was until one night when he was pulled into an alley way. Rumors went around about there being such a thing as vampires, but no one really listened, blaming the rumors on some goth teens. But when sharp fangs dug into Hikaru's neck the truth revealed himself, and Hikaru felt fear for the first time in a while. He thought he may die that night, but by some stroke of luck the vampire left him with some blood in tact. Though at first it seemed great, Hikaru quickly realized the consequence of being left alive as the transformation began.

A group of vampires had found him passed out, they were the kinder type who lived in a group together hidden away from the city. He was taken to their refuge, since now he was one of them, and it was being debated on whether or not the secret group would let him stay or not.

Hikaru woke up with a small whine, his bright blue eyes opened wide, and his medium length black hair fell into his face. He knew from the instant he woke up he was different and something was wrong, he just didn't realize how different things were.

It was strange, this small camp of outcasts. As Vampyre King, it was required of him to go to places such as these and expose himself to the harsh realities some of his people were facing. Only then, they believed, he’d understand their struggle and know how to truly help them. He had his own hardships in life, sure, he’d spent most of it running from Hunters—as most Vampyres did—though what many didn’t know, was what started the “new” generation of super Hunters. The ones that seem to know all their secrets, and the most effective ways to kill, repel and attract them that didn’t always include wooden steaks, the sun, garlic and the fresh scent of blood. It was his very own brother who was stripped of his vampyrism and deemed a traitor, sent to suffer powerless and alone after he made the mistake of bedding a human woman. Harushi’s life was filled with chaos like that, and something like living in small packs for protection and power in numbers like a pack of wolves was nothing compared to what he had to endure, and yet his people were still convinced he did not know hardship. Most of them assumed he grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth due to the fact that he is the Vampyre Goddess’ “son”. Sigh. Whatever, he supposed. He’ll do what pleases them, if it grants him peace.

He’d volunteered to look after their new recruit while they went hunting, for they worried he’d wake while they were gone. Haru did not need to feed as often as younger vampyres—though he was still young himself, a mere thousand years old—so he didn’t need to attend the hunt. Besides, he preferred to be somewhat alone. Their company was overwhelming him, and if this is what he had to do to earn peace and quiet, so be it.

A soft whine rang through the quiet of the room, and Haru frowned, displeased. So much for silence. He looked to the once unconscious youth and sighed.

“Welcome to the world of the living,” He smiled, the only indication that he was joking. The boy was far from what humans would deem “alive”.

//lol your character goes by the same nickname as my favorite fandom character XD//

Hikaru looked at Harushi and jumped, his eyes wide as he seemed more scared seeing the unknown man.

"Who are you??" He asked, trying to keep his voice level, but still a crack could be heard in it. He felt like his head was pounding and all he could remember was being bitten last night, he didn't know where he was or what else happened, and the fact he felt so out of control terrified him.

He could tell the man in front of him was another vampire, the fact they really actually existed made him feel sick to his stomach and wonder what else he didn't know. Hikaru still hadn't come to the realization he was one of them.

((Lol, from “Free!”, right? When that anime came out I was excited! I was like “OH HEY, I HAVE A HARU TOO!” I made this guy back in 07 haha :D ))

Harushi lost his smile and he stared at the obviously startled little fledgling. Poor thing, he probably wasn’t going to survive long without a mentor, and he doubted something as disorganized as a group of vampyres would suit well. Vamps were proud creatures, and despite the fact that they respected rules and customs, each and every last one of them had their own personal agenda that usually got in the way of things. Himself included. Only his agenda landed him with the simultaneous title Vampyre Lord AND Vampyre King. The former granted through winning a brutal competition, the latter through birth. But long story short, they may be able to get along as some sort of family, but they’ll more likely than not disagree on how to raise him. So… he guessed he’d take on the task. The thought irritated him, the last time he dealt so closely with one of his own it ended in tragedy, but maybe this time will be different.

“I am your new mentor, young one. My name is Harushi Anghel Hasagi. You may address me as Haru.” He looked away from the child of the night and focused on his perfectly sharpened claws. “You are a vampyre now, in case The Change has not caused you to figure it out on your own yet. I myself have no idea how that works, for I was not turned, but born into this fate. ” Does The Change alert one of their new abilities? Make them crave blood immediately? What about flesh, can the Turned eat? So many questions he had that he should have asked the first Turned vampyre he took under his wing… but he did not. Missed opportunities and all that jazz.

//XD I love Free! Sooooo much! my profile pic is a demon Haru picture I drew!! I'm a MakoHaru shipping freak//

Hikaru's tensed hearing what Haru had said and he chewed his lip. That couldn't be true... but at the same time, a lot of movies he had seen depicted how if a person was bit they would turn into a vampire... Hikaru didn't know how accurate the movies were, but he did remember passing out due to extreme pain after being bit... As if to figure out if Haru was lying, Hikaru ran a tongue over his teeth and jumped when he felt the newly formed fangs there. He let out a shaky breath as he stared at Haru, looking for some sort of explanation on how this could've happened to him.

"...This... This can't be happening... It wouldn't be fair.. I was just walking home from work when I was attacked..! I can't be a vampyre.." He said, his face stoic, though his eyes showed the terror he was trying so hard to conceal. He didn't want to accept this as true, if he did then his whole life as he knew it was over and now he would have to learn to survive a different way... On the blood of others...

((Omg you drew that?! That’s so cool! I wish I was as detailic, I can’t really draw clothing or anything, or barely color, haha. I’m a sad excuse for an artist. My work is my profile pic, too! It’s my OC Neeko!))

Harushi watched as the emotions played over the other’s face. As the denial, fear and surprise set in, he couldn’t help but feel bad for the boy. He knew exactly how he felt. There was a time where he wasn’t a full vampyre. He’d fed from the wrong person and their blood ended up changing his, turning him into both a day and night walker. The lack of sleep drove him insane. Ah, but that blood was long sense purged from his system by his beloved goddess, so he could forget all about that now. But this kid… there’s no purging the venom from
his body. There’s no turning him back into a human without killing him. He was damned. Haru should probably tell him that, but he couldn’t find the proper words so instead he stayed silent for a while, ignoring the boy while he fought to find the proper thing to say to him. Failing to find some sort of magic words, he shrugged it off and stood up from his place on the flood beside him and brushed his legs off.

“Let us go, before the others return. If you wish to live, that is.” He walked off, leaving the shelter and stepping out into the night.

//I like your profile pic though, it has very nice line work//

Hikaru frowned as he watched Haru, he felt confused and unsure what to do. He quickly got up, though he felt a bit shaky and his stomach was growling. He made a small whine and followed Haru. The cold air that hit his face was a bit refreshing, though he was feeling a bit sick knowing what he had just recently become. He didn't know the first thing about being a vampire, and if he had to kill people to eat... He wasn't sure how he'd survive.

"W-What do I do?? How can I live like this?" He asks Haru as he tried to follow along.

((Thank you very much!))

Harushi made sure to go in the opposite direction the others travelled. He didn’t bother speed-walking or running, because they hadn’t been gone long and he expected them to be out until sunset. They had plenty of time to escape. When the younger male spoke, Haru sighed and prepared himself for the barrage of questions to come. He reminded himself to be nice. The kid was new at this and very scared, as would he be if he suddenly woke up and found himself anything but Vampyre one day. Hell, he’d panic and rage and kill anyone he felt was even
remotely responsible, and right now Harushi was standing on the suspicious end were he in the place of this kid.

“You do as I say. You will not question my authority, or I will kill you or leave you to the wolves. Figuratively or literally, your choice,” He glanced back at the youth, “We are going to start by feeding you, otherwise you will not live at all.” That might be a little sudden, sending him to hunt someone out of the blue like that… he thought over his options and concluded that he had no choice but to head to a special place that served their kind and the likes. It would be extremely expensive, but one does not simply live this long as a poor man. He’ll be able to handle it. Once the fledgling is fed, they’ll make their journey to his kingdom. The environment would be easier to control. He’ll be easier to raise. And when they were ready, they can venture out to the wilds again. But right now, this area and areas like it was far too infested with Hunters to properly raise a young vampyre. The war against Hunters and Vampyres may be over—Haru made sure of that—but that does not mean the survivors were no longer a threat.

Hikaru tensed at that. Feeding only meant drinking blood, and whether or not he was actually killing a person, the idea was morally wrong. The thought of him being a vampyre still hadn't sunk in, and to him drinking blood from someone would be cannibalism in his mind.

Part of him wanted to ask Haru what he was thinking, but at the same time he didn't want to test the vampyre on his words. Hikaru didn't want to be ruled by someone either, and he didn't know if he could trust Harushi at all. For all Hikaru knew, Haru could be planning to kill him, or he could be part of some evil clan of vampyres... It wouldn't be the craziest thing that's happened today. Hikaru idly wondered if bein killed would be better than living a life like this, he knew nothing about being a vampyre... And the transition to getting used to this life probably wouldn't be the best. Hikaru also didn't know what threats there were to being a vampyre, he knew he wouldn't be able to see anyone he knew before... He'd disappear from existence to all his all his family and coworkers...

Hikaru hesitantly continued following Haru, chewing his lip as he did and his eyes downcast towards the ground. He doubted he'd even be able to eat... Not now knowing what he would be consuming... And he wasn't sure how Haru would take him refusing food..

((Continuing, my dads funeral is today so days leading up to it was busy! I was going to reply again when I had time, I'm sorry!))

//aww okay I'm sorry! That's fine, I just wasn't sure if you lost interest. Don't be sorry!"

Harushi stayed silent as he lead the younger male to the city, and when they arrived, he made sure he stayed in the shadows, occasionally glancing to make sure the fledgling followed close behind him. Whenever and if he ever faltered out of line, Harushi would hiss sharply and command he get closer or else he’ll get caught and killed. He’d let him know they were not welcome in this area, but it was the fastest way to get where they needed to go. It only took a few minutes, but when they arrived to a run down old bar, the elder Vampyre checked their surroundings to make sure they weren’t followed, then pushed the smaller vamp inside. Harushi was immediately greeted with a friendly voice.

“Haru! It’s been ages, how’ve you been? Is that your son?” The bartender called, a friendly fellow vamp who carried a thick Russian accent unlike Harushi, who bore a Romanian one. “And I see you’re as feminine as ever. Ever thought of growing some hair on your chest?” The man found his joke hilarious and laughed. Haru sighed.

“I am not feminine.” The only feminine thing about him was his soft, waist-length hair, slender form, delicate pianist hands and somewhat short stature. Being Japanese, he wasn’t destined to be too tall, and taking from his mother’s side of the family, he couldn’t even reach an average height of six feet. He was only five foot ten… okay so maybe that was quite a few things, he most definitely wasn’t on Russian or an American’s standards for Masculinity, but he wasn’t here to impress the likes of this man, anyway. “And I have no living children. Although… I am responsible for him now and…” Haru glanced around and checked to make sure the place was empty. It was. There were always immortals here, mostly vampyres, but occasionally a human would wander in, confused and already drunk after getting kicked out of another nearby bar. “He is supposed to eat.” Soundlessly, he stepped behind the boy and gently pushed him toward the bar.

“Alright, I can whip something up for him. Want it warm or cold? And what’s your name, anyway?” The bartender asked the recently turned vampyre.

Hikaru followed Haru closely, he seemed nervous and unsure what to do. He almost strayed a little but quickly got close to Haru again. When they got in the bar Hikaru looked around quietly, listening only slightly to the conversation between the two. Hikaru heard them talking about looking feminine and knew not to chime in, knowing he looked a lot like a girl with short hair, his face looked way too feminine, he was short and skinny, and had a slim waist and petite figure. When he heard about feeding he tensed. He didn't want to drink blood, he was human only a day ago...

He decided not to answer on what way he wanted his 'food' but he could give him an answer for his name. "Hikaru.." He mumbled quietly, he didn't like meeting new people and wasn't good at talking to them anyways..
