Fantasy {Reboot} Aether: The Dark Age - Interest Check

Any particular types of people you need more than another? I'm gonna start thinking about my own character :)

Cainhurst is maxed I think, we have one for Hinokah and one for the Church. A Elf or another Dwarf would be nice.

Also some general neutral characters wouldn't hurt!

I might make two depending on how well I feel about it.
In which case I think I'd love a dwarf and a Hinokah.... Two is so much effort :deadopenmouth: but it would probably be worth it :grinningteeth:

Well a lot of Dwarves live within Hinokah territory so you could just roll those two into one haha

RP'ers love edgelords

Dwarf love.... much have an affinity for 'em because I too am short ;D
Keidivh Keidivh will be ecstatic
Stunties are numbah one!!

I wonder if there's a dwarf mod on skyrim. It would be awesome to make my own "3D character model".... In theory

I'll have proper lore soon, but basically - any reasonably capable Smith can make an enchanted weapon, they just need a mage willing to pump out some mana.

This weapons are... Kinda crap tho. Since the magic fizzles out over time to the point where it's just a normal weapon again. If not completely useless.

To make a true enchanted weapon requires a certain metal known as (name in progress) that is exceptionally rare and precious (Magruhdul was the only source). Can realistically only be found in small quantities in ruins and such and it takes a lot to make a enchanted weapon - along with a very talented Smith and powerful mage.

There are some legendary weapons in the wild however -

Cainhurst and Hinokah have one each.
Church has a few.
Meyneth wielded a sacred blade that's still around somewhere.
Erebor had his enchanted hammer Orinmier.
Mipha had a special staff.

Etc etc.

1) How long would generic magical weapons last? Would they drain over time or would they stop working only after a certain number of uses?

2) Presumably the quality of the generic weapon could be increased depending on the quality of the smith and the power level of the mage used to create it? My suggestion would be the quality of the smith determines how long the weapon lasts and the quality of the mage determines the potency of the enchanted weapon's effect.

3) I would guess the cost of these weapons would be substantially more than a typical weapon, considering you would need to pay both the mage and the smith for their services.

4) Is there a special sort of ritual to make the magic weapon or do you just need any typical object to be pumped full of magic? Would you necessarily even need a smith present or could you just take any old sword to any old mage and have them inject the magic? Or do the mages NEED to be present during the weapon's forging?

5) What is it that makes this special metal (Orichalcum?) particularly effective for enchanted weapons?

6) Once a generic weapon runs out of mana, could it be repaired for a lower cost? Just pump more magic into it or what have you?

Lastly 7) What kinds of effects can enchanted weapons possess?

Weapons created with abjurationist magic might be able to create barriers or might be especially effective against mages because they can negate the magical powers of foes or increase the wielder's resistance to magical attack. The strength of the mage used to create the weapon might determine how strong a magical attack the weapon is able to negate.

Weapons created with healing magic might simply automatically heal the injuries of its wielder, provided the injuries are not fatal. More powerful magic can heal more serious injuries or could heal any injury much more quickly.

Weapons created with destructive magic can have elemental effects. Lightning swords that call down thunderbolts on enemies or fire swords that set them ablaze or cause sudden explosions. Ice swords that freeze, or light swords that deal more damage to unholy or undead foes. Dark swords that can deal more damage to church-affiliated foes? Water swords that can change shape at will or fire high pressure jetstreams at foes? The strength of the mages used to make these weapons could determine how much damage the elemental effect inflicts.

Enchantment and illusion are the tricky ones. What kinds of weapons would they create?

Would enchantment magic create a sword that could control the minds of others? Or maybe instead it would imbue the weapon with a mind of its own based on the mind of the mage used to create it?

Illusion magic could cause opponents to hallucinate if they see the weapon?

Could you have a weapon made with multiple types of magic that could do many of these things? Like a healing lightning sword?

Seems like a cool system with a lot of potential for creativity. If a person had the right weapon with the right combination of effects, they could cause quite a lot of trouble. I'm imagining an archer with arrows that have elemental arrowheads. He could use the arrows multiple times, provided he could find them again after he uses them. Lots of destructive potential there. Maybe on the Hinokah side, a ninja with magical throwing stars/knives.

Oh lord

1) Don't know, probably not a majorly long time. Depends on the quality of the craft and the quality of metal - but the magic just basically starts to seep regardless if it's been used or not. I'd say maybe a month or two. Weeks or even days with heavy use.

2) yee

3) yee. More a Trump card than regular weapon.

4) Mage has to be present at forging. , process can take days depending on the magic.

5) The metal only accepts that which makes it stronger. It's basically indestructible and only gets more powerful as time goes on. Naturally there's probably a special process in place to melt the stuff - known to a select few.

6) For the sake of simplicity, let's just say the weapon melts. Or explodes. Or turns to dust.

7) The only limit is imaginatioooooonnnnn.

Alcamoth? Ye!
We even had a Zanza in the first run haha

Awesome! I loved that game. Always nice to find other fans! :)

Hmm...can't decide if I want to make a human or elf for a character. What's the limit on the number of mages? I was thinking of maybe creating a destructive mage, but do they have to be Cainhurst? Just curious. I'm just trying to sort through character ideas at the moment.

Cainhurst have a monopoly on that particular school, but all the schools have some manner of destructive ability if you're imaginative. You could be ex-cainhurst if you wanted to. Maybe moved away after the war or something. Elf is nice!

I've got a limit on 4 mages - I think you'd have space.

So, I think the weapon should be re-makable once it runs out rather than just exploded or turned to dust. Re-makeable only with the type of magic that was originally used to create it, of course. Maybe it could explode or turn to dust only after many times of being re-magicked and the magic finally destroys the metal (like, it can be done 5 or 6 times or something so you get about a year total out of each enchanted weapon?) That way these weapons can stick around for a little bit longer. I mean, or we could just increase the time limit to a year or something. It just seems unfortunate that you spend all that time and effort on a thing that you can only use for a couple days or weeks or months at most.

Ahh but it'll make the proper ones or the more special, no?

Grrrr. My computer crashed on my while I was trying to screenshot Skyrim. I made an awesome dwarf. I was going to tweak the armor and whatnot but dammit it looked so nice!

The proper ones will be super special in any case since they'll basically be infinite. You won't have to limit yourself to prevent them from being used up more quickly or worry about the added cost of re-making the weapon every time it runs out of juice. That's to say nothing of whether their effects are generally more powerful than a generic enchanted weapon.

They need to explode/dust it up because half the characters this time around are going to be nobles or work directly for nobles. Money is not gonna be a factor for most.

I would like enchantment weapons to be very temporary. Sort of things that would last for one quest and such. Special back up. They'll be handed out/crafted as necessary.
