KEENAN

Keenan wasn’t surprised in the slightest as something akin to suspicion flickered across Atara’s face at the archer’s words, emerald depths staring at him questioningly for a hot second before turning to examine the unconscious teen. No doubt she wanted to interrogate him on Saran’s condition, but at least she had the decency not to approach the subject in front of everyone else. It meant he could relax for the time being to hopefully get rid of the nasty headache, a brief respite from his past continuing to haunt him in one way or another, and he’d be damned if he wouldn’t make use of it.

At the mention of needing a healer, Keenan automatically went to rummaging through his pouch for the healing potion he had bought while passing through a small village on the way to Kakariko, only for his hand to come up empty. Somehow he must have dropped it along the way. Before he could say anything however, Aisha had pulled out an old hyrule herb.

While Atara started making the paste Nessa took that moment to rush in, gathering her sibling in her arms. In the light of the flames it was obvious they were twins, but more importantly, just how young the both of them were. The ex-Yiga felt a pang of sympathy, no one, especially children at that, should have to carry the burden of the sins of their ancestor, Ganon. He wondered if he had looked that vulnerable after his ritual, unconscious even as the malice seeped into his veins. Whatever the case, his life was never the same, and until now he thought he’d be the only one to have Ganon’s curse. It had been hell dealing with the after effects, would it be even worse for Saran considering he was an actual Gerudo?

Much as he wanted to answer Nessa’s question, he knew he couldn’t. So he lied.

Lightly squeezing the girl’s shoulder, he said, “I don’t know kid, but I imagine it was incredibly painful. Whatever the future will bring, he’s going to need you more now than ever.”

Keenan could only hope she stayed at his side no matter what, and not let the fear of what was happening to her sibling ruin their bond. He could still remember the looks of his fellow Yiga after he woke up. Some looked at him in awe, others with reverence, but the majority with poorly hidden terror in their eyes.

He was thinking way too deeply again, running the same questions in his head over and over. Pulling the bandaging tape from his bag, he put it in one of Nessa’s hands and stood.

He faked yawned before clearing his throat. “Well I hate to say it but I think I need to go take a nap before watch duty. See ya kiddos, let me know if you need anything.” He hoped not.

Once again he knew he had no chance of falling asleep, but he had perfected the art of faking it. He walked over to his bed roll and closed his eyes. Once things had calmed down he would definitely make some herbal tea for his headache.

Saran's nightmare caused him to gently toss while asleep, beads of sweat dotting his head for each unfamiliar and foreboding image that flashed in his mind. As he came to all his memories were hazy, and Saran could still hear that last horrific screech from his dream. His body tensed up tightly in response, but almost immediately after, those tense feelings were met with another force he could begin to make from the outside. It felt like an embrace, reassuringly tight, and with a nostalgic warmth to it.

He had no idea where this feeling was coming from but found himself holding onto it nonetheless, squeezing it with what strength he had left and burying himself into its arms for support. When he could, he opened his eyes to see a haze of red hair dangling above his head. There was something pink near it, and then two pure green eyes that cut directly through his cloudiness. He knew exactly who they belonged to, and he could barely believe it. After all that-was she really here? was this her?

His eyes opened even further in sorrow, and with a groggy voice he spoke out "Nessa?"

How was this possible? Was this real? How was she here? And where even was here, to begin with? He didn't care, all that mattered is that she was finally with him. Saran wasted no time in hugging his sister back even tighter than before, burying his face in her red hair as if she might disappear again within an instant. Silent tears began to leak from his eyes, dripping onto the grass beneath them as he whispered "You're here..you're here..you're here, thank the gods you're here." over and over again. Dreary images of what had happened prior slowly crept back into his mind, and with that, his tears became more audible-and slowly he began to crack.

A mess of words rolled out of his mouth. "They took me-and then-they you weren't-and- there was these eyes, eyes everywhere and." a dull pinching began to wring itself back into Saran's chest, but he ignored it- and wanted nothing more than to pretend it wasn't there, that whatever happened didn't happen.

Yet after that pain increased, it was obvious he couldn't. He began weeping loudly in his sister's arms, clinging to her and taking in everything about her that screamed comfort-as his chest wept even louder. He spent as much time embracing her as he could until he leaned back and looked down at his chest.

A horrible scar, yet less horrible than what his fuzzy memory recalled. He touched where his scar was in confusion- had he just imagined something happened to him that really didn't? Then, he realized just how hot he was-sweat pouring down from his head. His veins felt incredibly sore, and he had a horrible headache unlike any other. He backed up even further and his vision cleared up.

It was night- they were sitting in some-stringy green earth-and what was more was they weren't alone. There were people in front of them this whole time, and while he couldn't make out their details just yet-it was obvious they were there,

He neared his sister once again, clutching to her hand in fear "Nessa..what's going on? Where are we?"

  • Grima and Uriah

"See just as I thought your brother has been found." B-206 said pointing over to where the sleeping boy was.

"I don't think we will be leaving anytime soon, how about we three go and hunt those frogs." B-206 said figuring that the two girls weren't needed here and that they should be off doing kid stuff.

After having helped Saran detangle his hair, at least once, Nessa was certain anyone with curly hair had a tough time. The curls knotted together in just the right way, it seemed, and, yet, it was beautiful all the same. Through the mess, she adored them.

From Uriah’s point of view, frogs sounded amazing. B made them sound less enticing, but still didn’t sway Nessa from wanting to catch them with the other girl. She nodded, “they sound remarkable, I’d be happy to learn more about them and how to catch them.”

At the comment about the Yiga, she peered up at B’s floating form, “you think so?” She didn’t say much more about it, if the Yiga were dumb; what did that make her and Saran? Frowning at the thought, she looked back over to Uriah. It wasn’t until the comment about Saran that she perked back up, he was here? They had found him? The thought made her so ecstatic, so excited, that before B could say another work she was sprinting towards the other group.

"Maybe not right at this moment, B. Plus, it's still a bit too dark out to see them well." Uriah replied, watching as Nessa all but rushed to see her brother once the sword spirit confirmed he had been found. She followed at a slower pace, beelining to Grima and Valen the horse as the others looked over the boy, though Aisha went to take her leave and Keenan went to sleep.

They weren’t that far, causing her to come to an abrupt stop once she made it around the tent. Staring wide eyed at the familiar boy laying on the blanket. “Saran..” she whispered, little droplets starting to fall down her cheeks, “you really found him.” She was almost too cheerful to notice the prominent wound across his chest. Scrunching her face up in disgust when she did, disgust at the knowledge that they hurt her brother. “What did they do to him?” It was an angered question, collapsing to a sitting position on the blanket beside his sleeping figure. She then pulled him into a gentle hug, hoping that even asleep the proximity, knowing they were back together, would calm his nerves.

Leaving for a second to scavenge an unused wooden bowl from beside the campfire, she quickly made her way back and took a seat away from the siblings. She retrieved her knife from its sheath on her thigh, taking the handle and gently mixing the herb into the bowl. She would need some water to make it into a paste, so it was easier to spread. The herb itself was enough of a remedy without anything additional.

“Grima, you have some fresh water, yeah?” If not, at least Zelo pond was right around the corner

"Yeah, and I have a bit of fresh Hyrule Herb too in case you need it." He answered, taking two pouches from the saddle and going over to hand them to Atara.

Uriah, not liking that Nessa was crying, sat nearby. Not too close so as to not crowd Saran but close enough that the other girl would know she was there. Then Saran woke up and broke down immediately, causing Uriah to scoot a bit further away to give them space.

Even in the dim light, unnoticeably, Atara rolled her eyes. Both at the ideology of him not knowing and at needing a nap. If she hadn’t spent her whole life observing, due to the fear of actually speaking up, maybe she wouldn’t have noticed the fact that Keenan didn’t sleep. She didn’t know how the man lived, not to mention how he hadn’t so much as passed out once. At this point, not knowing what he was hiding had started to bother her.

Nessa, on the other hand, believed the entirety of his words. Hugging Saran tighter at the mention of him needing her. She didn’t say a word as Keenan excused himself, instead nodding in understanding. Words wouldn’t seem to form, being much too focused on what had happened to Saran. She realized she hadn’t even thanked Keenan or Aisha for rescuing him, she’d have to do so later.

The twin knew something was happening to Saran, the almost feverish feeling of his skin and the way he shifted in his sleep stating such. She just couldn’t pinpoint exactly what was happening. Running small fingers through his hair in a soothing manner. “It’s okay,” she whispered, “you’re safe.” Even if the words fell on deaf ears, it made her feel better to let him know, to try to comfort him.

It seemed, slowly, he found consciousness. His grip tightening around her, returning the hug she had been giving him. When dull, emerald green met hers, she mustered a, “yes, I’m right here.”

Mature, Atara noted, a faint smile gracing her features. More mature than she felt she would have been, at Nessa’s age, in the same situation.

It was in that moment Saran embraced Nessa, words spilling from his lips. Things the other twin couldn’t quite understand, but she listened. She knew he was happy to see her, happy that they were back together. The rest, however, escaped her, coming out as a jumbled mess from her brother.

“It’s okay,” she repeated, “you’re safe.” Even as the tears fell, Nessa tried to remain calm. She figured one of them had to be, for the other. Patting his back gently, his embrace only grew tighter. He needed time, that much was obvious. Time to heal, time to come to terms. She would be with him every step of the way. That was the bond the two of them shared.

Eventually, Saran seemed to settle some, which in turn allowed Nessa to relax. Watching him go through so many emotions pulled at her heartstrings, it felt horrible. As he seemed to take in his wound, she tilted her head sympathetically. “They’re making you a salve, so they can wrap it and-“ she was cut off by his words, almost having forgotten he didn’t know these people. Not even she knew them, in reality.

Allowing him to hold onto her hand, she peered around at the others, “well.. we’re.. where are we, exactly?”

“Trilby Valley.. if we went back a ways there’s Trilby Plain and to the South is Zelo Pond,”
came Atara’s voice, stopping her mixing to point in the direction of the pond. She realized fairly quickly that, that probably meant a bunch of nothing. Allowing herself to go back to grinding the herb, she continued, “you’re still in Hyrule, but you’re a long way from Gerudo.”

Nessa, with the knowledge that, that would probably freak Saran out more, waved her hands. “It’s no big deal, though! We’ll get back to Gerudo and make lots of friends along the way. The people here are really nice, like Uriah, over there,” she paused to point, “she’s offered to take us frog catching!”

At Grima’s response, Atara beamed, “this will do! We can collect more on the road, but for now I think we’ll have enough.” Gratefully taking the extra Hyrule Herb from him, as well as the water, she nodded in thanks. She made sure to be careful with the pouch carrying the water, opening it before gently tilting it over to add just enough of the liquid. Once she was done, she lifted it back to Grima, certain he had other uses for it.

She made sure the ointment was at the right consistency after mixing the water in, pushing herself off of the ground in a swift motion. “Okay, it’s done,” it was a brief announcement, eyes locking in on Saran “Nessa can hold your hand if you want, it’ll probably burn.” She didn’t mention how often she had used it, younger than them too, enough times that it was hard to forget. While she didn’t want to scare Saran, she didn’t want him going into it uninformed either. It would sting. It always did.

Well so much for her trying to help there. People really were dramatic these days a boy gets a malice boo boo and everyone acts like he is dead already. Really if the kid was dead they might be more bearable. This all did help get B-206's mind out of her past and back on the present. She wpuld have more time to wonder on what had been burned away in a forge and faded in the dark latter. Really she could do it while everyone else slept as B-206 didn't sleep and could think alone when the others slept.

Really B-206 was already tired of the scene before her and oddly she was also angry. Well more angry than her baseline anger that she wanted to never let go of. Seeing siblings reunited just irked B-206 and seeing everyone show such sympathy was almost disgusting. This whole scene was just to mushy for B-206 she hadn't been shown any of this so why should anyone get it.

B-206 decided to put an end to the scene and hopefully bring everyone back to there senses. Moving into the ground with her incorporeal form B-206 allowed the new boy to see and hear her as she rose from the ground beside the siblings.

" Gods you guys really do like this one a lot more than the girl" B-206 said sarcastically " I don't think I have ever seen something so mushy" her voice going from sarcastic to like she had stepped in something beyond disgusting " So how long are we going to fawn and fuss over the boy's boo boo? " She asked again becoming sarcastic.

KEENAN
Keenan had only had his eyes closed for a few moments when, unsurprisingly, lady luck denied him the luxury of not having to worry about anything for the rest of the night. Like a infant wailing the second a tired parent’s head hit the pillow, the unconscious Gerudo teen stirred in his twin’s arms. The ex-Yiga gritted his teeth (for the love of Ganon is it too much to ask for some peace and quiet for once?), his rising level of irritation making him consider teleporting elsewhere. It only became stronger as Saran began to cry, clearly having suffered from a terrible nightmare, a senseless babble of the hell he had been through escaping from his lips.

As he opened his eyes once more he was once again reminded of just how young Saran was, looking small as the boy clung to Nessa like a lifeline. Small and helpless, unable to bear the weight of what was to come. As sympathetic as Keenan was however, he felt a familiar sense of panic finally beginning to squirm in his gut. Why he hadn’t have felt it before now he didn’t know, maybe it was the shock of seeing another soul clearly suffering with what he’d been attempting to avoid for so long coming to haunt him again. It was one thing to find a unconscious victim but seeing them wake up like the world collapsing around them was another.

No wonder he couldn’t handle being in the Yiga clan anymore, he had been masking his weakness for so long the “Infallible assassin” disguise could no longer hold.

Eventually, Saran’s cries became quieter as he finally relaxed some enough to start asking questions and take everything in.

“Nessa…what’s going on? Where are we?”

Congrats kiddo, you’re just beginning your journey to hell. Here’s your consolation prize in the form of a life time supply of bananas and night terrors you poor bastard.

Nessa and Atara were quick to respond to the Gerudo’s inquiries. As Atara prepared the ointment using the extra herb from Grima, B decided to make herself known seemingly to pick on the poor boy.

Keenan rolled his eyes as he sat up, muttering, “Your ‘wonderful’ personality is truly something to behold my dear B, but perhaps save your typical performance for later? That poor kid hasn’t been awake for more than 10 minutes.” He stood, barely able to hide the panic he was beginning to feel, adding, “Seeing as sleep is going to continue to be hard to come by, I think I’m going to do some patrolling. Thought I heard a few bokoblins making a racket earlier. Don’t worry, I don’t plan on going too far.” A pause. “Good to see you open your eyes, kid. Your sister was worried sick.” He stated, a half hearted smile forming on his lips. Gesturing a goodbye to the others, he entered the woods again, this time in the opposite direction from where Saran was found.

Walking until no one could see or hear him Keenan leaned against a tree and ran his slightly shaking hands down his face. He cursed. He despised showing weakness of any kind, especially around a group of people he barely knew, and his headache wasn’t going anywhere.

“Ok you idiot, pull yourself together. You knew this wasn’t going to be a picnic, right?” He said aloud. He took several deep breaths, pushing aside the images of blood red moons and bodies of water poisoned by malice that threatened to take over his brain. Once he no longer felt his body trembling, he reached in his bag for the herbs and the cup he would use to make tea. Just as he was beginning to add some water from his drinking pouch however, he heard something rustling in the bushes in front of him. Within moments a bokoblin popped out ready to fight with club in hand. A brief moment of confusion crossed the beast’s features before it charged ahead to make a killing blow.

“Oh for the love of---” Keenan hissed, pulling out a kunai. “Take a dirt nap pig face.” Throwing the weapon with practiced ease, not even a second had passed before the monster was gurgling as blood left its now punctured throat. Once it was clear that it was dead and that none of its buddies would be showing up the ex-Yiga returned to his tea making as if nothing had happened in the first place.

Aisha didn’t stick around long enough know for certain that Saran woke up, but based upon the commotion from the direction of the camp, she was fairly certain that he had.

Finding a quiet spot at the edge of the camp wasn’t that hard, making her possible to find it someone came looking, and if they didn’t, disturbances were unlikely. Finding a clean bit of dirt, Aisha took a deep breath. Too much had happened in one day, to many things that did not sit well with her, to many memories.

Rhythmically she drew a circle around herself on the ground, settling down in the middle cross legged. Drawing a deep breath, Aisha let her head tilt back, and her eyes slide out of focus. Finding time to meditate and focus was a rarity in Hyrule, but after the day she had, Aisha desperately needed it. Cloaked largely by shadows, things were more comfortable, and her racing heart started to slow. Reciting her family magics, those illusions and tricks of mind that she used on a day to day basis served as a good mental focusing measure, and helped to push away the more insidious desires to draw the shadows around her like a cloak, and do unspeakable things. Years of life meant that she knew better now that the powers she’d played with as a teenager and Aisha went to great lengths to not tap into them. Quite how long she sat, Aisha couldn’t say, but eventually, she brought her focus back again.

Extending a hand, and placing it against the circle she’d drawn, Aisha murmured a quick spell, just to reinforce her façade, then ran a finger through the circle, causing the area around herself to visibly dim slightly, in what she knew would be a vain attempt to keep anyone from actually bothering her if they wished.

It had been a few minutes, long enough for Atara to apply the salve and wrap Saran’s wound for him. Examining her work one more time before nodding, “well, that’ll do.” Finding something to cover up the bowl that held the ointment, so it wouldn’t ruin, she glanced towards the twins. “I would recommend you get some rest, Saran. We have a long journey ahead of us.”

She neatly placed the bowl next to her things, along with arranging the leftover Hyrule Herb into her own pouch for later. She wasn’t sure how much treatment the boys’ wound would need, but hoped for his sake it healed quickly. His and his sisters.

On another note, she couldn’t decipher what exactly had gotten into Keenan, but she was going to find out. B didn’t faze her, the sword spirit had always been that way. Constantly obnoxious, cruel, and while Atara was certain she had quite the past, it didn’t make up for her actions. Keenan, however, normally just didn’t interact. On the occasions he did pitch into a conversation, he seemed friendly.

The sudden aggravation concerned her. She already had suspicions from the separation between him and Aisha. Now, this pushed the matter further. Furrowing her eyebrows and crossing her arms, she let out a huff of air. “I’ll be going, I think I should check on our fellow traveler.” Traveler, she supposed it wasn’t far from the truth.

Giving the group that was still together a gentle wave, she set off on the same path Keenan had taken. She hadn’t expected him to go so far, nor had she expected it to take her a generous amount of time to find him. The scent of herbs was the first giveaway of his location, fresh; tea. Moving a branch out of her way to step into the clearing, she took in the sight of the dead bokoblin a foot or so from him.

“Rough day?” Her tone wasn’t sarcastic, there was a sincerity to it. Emerald orbs finally taking in his form, leaning against a tree with a cup of tea held carefully in his hands. The pot of water he used to make it with sitting precariously near the fire. She thought, maybe, it would be best to not get straight into it. Yet, after a moment, she had an inkling Keenan was observant enough he already knew why she came out here.

“You know something about the boy,” well, if that wasn’t awkward, “don’t you?” She picked her own little spot, on a fallen log not too far off from the side of him. “I could go down the list of reasons why; you and Aisha, needing sleep, your overall anger,” she paused, tapping her fingernails against the wood gently, “but I assume you don’t need me to.”

Emotional scenes like the reuniting of family were a tough one to help in, and frankly his input wasn’t needed so Adagio merely sat back as the boy returned and his sister joined him. He was happy to see the boy alright though. They’d have to find a way to get the two home. He didn’t necessarily have the directions to get them to wherever they came from but he’d be happy to help how he could.

Atara seemed to have medicine covered and the shifts for watch were officially swapped as a number of their members made their way away from the camp. So all that was left was taking care of who was left.

Best he could do was hope to draw B’s ire away from the injured boy and hopefully make Grima’s handling of the children earlier.

“B could you come over here, I need your assistance.”

Reprimanding rarely seemed to work against B-206. While normally ill advised giving her the attention she sought did seem to do the trick though. And there were things he’d like to discuss with her.

It seemed that everyone was filing away from the mushy scene, that did please B-206 some. She just had hated withe everyone fawning over the kid and well she guessed the girl hugging her bother was fine not that annoying. Still B-206 would have rather they done it somewhere else, if any of her family, if she had one, cane back then wouldn't find her getting all weepy. Really B-206 would just pitty her fellow survivor as another kid forced to continue to exist. That however was impossible, B-206 had seen them all die released from their suffering.

The boy seemed shocked enough to not seem that terrified by her and if he was like his sister he would be fine. Yeah she might have scared him some but really B-206 doubted she had really hurt him. B-206 was thinking of returning to Uriah as well what had bugged her was over no more super mushy scene and she had nothing else to do. That was the plan till the masked man called out to her, was he just trying to get her away from the new kids? Really people just didn't get her, and we'll that was good if they did who knew what they would say. One thing was sure they would pity her and things would be far more mushy and B-206 didn't want any of that. They might see her as acting out, but these peopke had no clue what they had dodged.

B-206 soon floated over to the masked man already looking half annoyed half bored " what is it you want? " She asked crossing her arms not exactly happy about what she assumed he thought she was doing " The kids will be fine you saw how the girl reacted " she sighed again thinking that her hurting the boy somehow was the only reason somone would want her away from them.

Adagio sat looking at B’s incorporeal form. Unsurprisingly his addressing her had already elicited a scowl, or perhaps it was already there beforehand. It was hard to say when it came to B-206 but either way he ignored it in favor of responding.

“I imagine you’re right. They’ll be mostly recovered in no time, though perhaps full emotional recovery will take far longer. But either way I think they should have some space for now don’t you?”

He in fact thought it was good for B to be pestering the children to an extent, meant she was at least out of her shell. But they’d likely need a minute to enjoy being reunited before they’d be ready for that level of pestering. On the other hand he did in fact have things he wanted to discuss with B.

“But as for the reason I called you over here there’s something I’ve been thinking about making and I need your help. If you wouldn’t mind telling me a bit about yourself that would be great. We can start with favorite colors if that’s not too personal.”

B-206 eyed Adagio as if he had said the most stupid thing as he mentioned the kids having some space, and about emotional recovery. Yeah she had been a bit disruptive, but she had destroyed the mushy mood that kept people there. Well that was what B-206 would argue she had done if she wanted to explain herself and needed a better reason than mushy stuff is annoying. What he asked next B-206 got then impression that he thought she was the one not giving those kids space, she had made space and had planned to leave them. She had one child and that was more than enough for her to deal with. Also her kid wasn't likely to get broken like those two as who knew what baggage they had, she would happily take the overly optimistic Uriah over them.

The question of her favorite color should be an easy answer, but thinking back again B-206 could find nothing concrete in her past, it was foggy like a carving with moss grown over it that you couldn't wipe away. B-206 could feel it was there, she knew it was, but she couldn't see the color. The past was of no help for her favorite things, just what she hated. The present was well, B-206 had never thought about it much. After being released she had not thought of the world and her place in it. She was a sword and a relic of a forgotten past what place could she have? She had uraih or well Uriah had her, but if the past was any indication then B-206 knew she would outlive the girl. What color did she even like? B-206 really didn't know she had one point in her life that everything revolved around and she couldn't move past or travel behind. She was forever stuck at the moment she had been reborn.

" Tell you about myself?" B-206 asked rhetorically " Well how about I am not some artificial spirit, but a ghost of a kid throne into a forge?" She continued before realizing what she said. B-206 really didn't want to tell anyone about that, least of all the masked weird that thought a sword knew what to give people. The words lingered for a second before B-206 started to laugh " Did you believe that? Really I that was just a lie " She continued before letting out a sigh " I guess blue" She finally answered the question hoping that would erase her accidental reveal of what she was.

The storied history of the Master Sword was not one commonly passed down among Adagio’s people. He knew of the blade and its fabled power to “defeat the darkness” but he knew very little of its origin and feats. As far as he was concerned it was just another symbol of the gods.

Never would he had assumed B-206 to be some sort of artificial sword spirit, and frankly given the mystical nature of their world her slip up made an explanation of the will of the dead make more sense. Regardless she was clearly unhappy with her situation but if she didn’t want to push it then he wouldn’t.

“Well it’s an awfully sad lie. But very well. Blue huh? Good to know.”

He dug through his bag picking out different blue colored paints as he continued.

“Well favorite person seems a given so I guess we’ll move past that. You seem to be well travelled. Do you have a favorite place you’ve been?”

KEENAN

Within minutes of drinking his tea already Keenan could feel his headache ebbing away, allowing him to relax to a certain degree. Though he couldn’t taste the brew he made, it nonetheless brought back pleasant memories of his mother busying about the kitchen, the familiar whistle of the kettle and smell of fresh herbs breaking the sleepy silence of the early morning. The mint and fruity notes brought forth a refreshing taste designed to calm the nerves and clear the mind for whatever the day would bring. Whenever Keenan had asked her about where the recipe had come from his mother would always bear a grin, a twinkle in her eye as she said, “To help win over your father and drive the hags away. This tea and my supper meat pies are what made you possible.” At the time it had made him roll his eyes, yet now he would have given anything to see her and his father’s faces again. Funny how a simple tea recipe made him feel so bittersweet.

He sighed, looking up at the moon managing to occasionally peek through the forest canopy. He had been gone awhile and no doubt he should head back before someone came looking for him. That said, he still didn’t feel like dealing with B’s attitude or another victim to the Yiga clan’s machinations.

As if somehow reading his thoughts, the sound of breaking twigs nearby reached his ears. Speak of the devil.

It was Atara who came into the clearing, glancing at the dead bokoblin before an eyebrow raised as she asked, “Rough Day?” There was no sarcasm or judgement in her tone, merely a hint of concern.

“Well if it isn’t my baby sitter.” The harsh words escaped his lips before he could stop them. He winced, apologizing before he replied, “I’m fine, it’s just taking a bit for me to adjust to traveling with other people again. I was planning on heading back before you showed up.”

There was a brief moment of silence as the Sheikah sat on a nearby log, almost as if she trying to choose her words carefully. “You know something about the boy, don’t you?”

Ah that classic Sheikah wit. No use beating around the bush apparently.

“I could go down a list of reasons why; you and Aisha, needing sleep, your overall anger…but I assume you don’t need me to.”

His fingers absentmindedly wrapped around his new necklace. The surface was smooth, probably cold to the touch as well. Taking a sip of his tea, the ex Yiga hummed. “You could say that. At the very least I might have an inkling of what he probably went through.” He put the cup down, crossing his arms and briefly closing his eyes. “I never participated in my clan’s cult nonsense if I could help it, but based on what I’ve heard that poor kid has unwillingly become a disaster in the making.” Standing, he made his way over to the fire and began the process of dismantling the makeshift camp spot. After the fire had been buried he finally added, “If we don’t find a solution soon we might have to, eventually, kill Saran before he becomes a problem.” Or rather it’d be Keenan himself who would need to kick the bucket, but he wasn’t ready to tell the girl that. “And since the Hero has gone AWOL I’m afraid that all we can do is hope we find some answers on this journey. Ganon knows Saran will need all the help he can get.” Another pause. “I’d rather not resort to killing anyone, let alone an innocent child, though.”

He blinked, realizing the kettle was not quite empty yet. “Oh yeah, would you like some tea?”

B-206 couldn't tell if the masked boy bought what she said, he hadn't really seemed shocked by what she had said and seemed to just take the lie with the same attitude. Was he just used to crazy stuff? Was B-206 more common than she might know of? she really hoped the latter wasn't true what had happened to the kids back then had been bad enough, if anything it was something that deserved to be lost. B-206 didn't really see the point in the questions, the idea he was making something for her was silly as she was just a sword now she couldn't hold anything. Likely he was just making excuses to keep her away from the kids, it was annoying that he would think she would bug them more than was needed. She had caused a scene, but she always did and besides it made space for the two of them. She was going to leave them alone right after that, but others might not see that. Well she would humor Adagio for a little bit at least a lot had happened and she needed to think about the past.

B-206 was not as well traveled as the masked boy thought, she had seen a few markets, but really she had not seen much of the world of now. Had she gone anywhere before all this happened? B-206 sought to remember to clear the fog away. She closed her eyes and thought deeply actually looking for something as she tried to remember the past for more than just the pain it brought her. It was foggy like someone had drawn something and erased it only to draw over it without fully getting rid of the original work. B-206 sought some memory of her own and she knew they were there but how many layers of memories had piled one on top of the other? How could she not remember even her own name from the past? The forge had stolen so much from her and all the wanted was freedom from her bindings.

Then it happened as B-206 thought about, her freedom from the world an old memory became clear. She couldn't honestly tell if it was real or something put in her head in the forge but it was mostly clear. B-206 saw the sky looking up it was without clouds. She looked around feeling like she was trapped on rails as she didn't take in her surrounds well. Everything was yellow. The grasses and the tress all a fall like yellow. There were buildings made of green stone and things that moved made of the same green stone. B-206 realized in the memory she wasn't alone, there were others there, but she couldn't really see them. They were almost like shadows of people, but they were tall to tall and they didn't feel normal. They spoke or so B-206 assumed and she couldn't understand them it was like multiple people speaking at the same time and all their words were different. The words stopped and B-206 looked once more to the sky then down to the clouds? B-206 looked and saw no just clouds and a ground far below but at her own body and saw, she was just as she was now what form she took back then was gone. B-206 looked back up from the earth and turned heading towards the figure then the memory ended as B-206 almost felt ejected from her own mind yet she had soem new words and some lost understanding of how the world used to be.

" The Zonai Islands B-206 said " The ones in the sky. I don't remember much but I remember being at the edge of one and looking down to the ground" B-206 explained syoping herself from saying she remembered standing there. Yet the nagging idea that this memory wasn't real remained in the back of her head. Just what had been done to her?

Atara would be lying if she said she hadn’t expected him to react poorly, at least at first. Her presence seemed to aggravate him on a regular basis: whether it was because she knew his secret or he simply didn’t like her, she wasn’t certain. “I’m surprised you think I’d babysit you for free,” she mused, “I don’t find you that endearing.”

An apology was voiced and answered with a small hum, “is it the people that bother you? Or something else?” Adapting was hard, she had learned that over the course of a few days, however, the freedom brought her an unfamiliar sense of peace. She knew it couldn’t be the same for everyone.

Atara examined the amulet hanging loosely against his neck, the way his fingers clung to it. It was something she noticed appear shortly after his conversation with Lady Impa. She hadn’t felt the need to pry, even now, it seemed he kept it close.

His revelation did little to astonish her, having had a hunch he knew from the beginning. She made sure to let him finish, staying silent even as he discarded the remains of the campfire he’d created. While killing was a simple task carried out within the Yiga tribe, in Keenans life, the thought of doing such a thing to a child had a chill running down her spine.

“I don’t think that will be necessary,” she replied, “I’m sure there’s a solution.” There was an answer to everything, even the most complicated problems. Ganon knows she had to stop herself from correcting him. After being around the Yiga clan for so many years it must come naturally.

At the mention of tea, she finally peered up at him, “you have horrible timing.” Tea, like they were having a regular conversation about their days. She gave a thoughtful nod, “but yes, I suppose, I’ll take a cup.”

Her thoughts trailed back to Saran and Keenans take on the situation. Murder, it just didn’t sit right with her. The Yiga were accustomed to such deeds from the time they were young, she had heard. The Yiga; reminiscent on a familiar red haired women she tried not to think on too often. It had her face scrunching up into something akin to hate.

They wouldn’t harm the boy, that was final.

Nessa’s words “It’s okay” and “You’re safe” were like a heavenly remedy sung down from the gods. It relieved him of his pain, and as she strung her hands through his fizzed hair, he became grounded in where he was and who he was with.

It didn’t take him long to realize that tears were falling from her eyes as well. She had been put through hell too no doubt, so after he relaxed, he used what strength he had to reach up and wipe her tears from her eyes as best he could. The sudden movement surged another wave of pain from his chest, which made him grimace and set his hand down soon after.

“They’re making you a salve, so they can wrap it and-well.. we’re.. where are we, exactly?”

Another pair of green eyes cut through the boy’s fog, only this time they weren’t his sisters. They belonged to a younger woman, with pale skin and cloud white hair. Her appearance confused him a bit..those emerald eyes didn’t line up with the rest of her body. Was she a gerudo like the eyes were telling him or something else? There seemed to be an elegancy about her along with a deep exhaustion indicated by the bags under her eyes. She promptly gave an answer to Nessa’s question.

“Trilby Valley.. if we went back a ways there’s Trilby Plain and to the South is Zelo Pond.” Her words were a mesh of nonsense to the young gerudo, but the woman seemed to anticipate that, and she followed with “you’re still in Hyrule, but you’re a long way from Gerudo.”

Saran nodded to the woman slowly and looked down, becoming lost in thought. More mysteries to add to the pile of questions in his head. How could he have gotten here? Was he saved from the yiga? And if so by who? His head seemed to spin even more as he tried to think about it, but thankfully his sister interrupted him.

“It’s no big deal, though! We’ll get back to Gerudo and make lots of friends along the way. The people here are really nice, like Uriah, over there, she’s offered to take us frog catching!”

Saran slowly followed his sisters point to see another girl amidst this crowd of strangers. They had all gradually started to appear to him and his impaired vision as the minutes passed. This one particular girl had black lofty curls that framed her face, and an soft gaze directed towards him and his sister. She sat a bit away, and he gave her a little awkward wave when he came into contact with her shimmery hazel eyes.

“Wait..” Saran said without thinking. “What the heck is a frog?” There was still so much about this place that he didn’t understand. There was no sand, and so many plants everywhere. He wasn’t sure if he liked it or not, all he knew was that he wanted to get home.

The woman’s voice interrupted his thoughts again “Ok, it’s done. Nessa can hold your hand if you want, it’ll probably burn.”

Right..the wound. There was so much going on it was even difficult to process the pain. But if Nessa trusted these people, then he did too. So he nodded to the woman, grabbed nessas hand, and let her apply the watery medicine to his cut. He squeezed her hand tightly as surely enough, the stinging sensation joined in the party of pain across his body. It squeezed a few more tears out of his eyes, but it was over fast, and the woman went to work quickly wrapping his wound. He thanked her, still hanging tight onto his sister’s hand, knowing she’d be with him thick and thin.

Just then, a corporeal ghost floated out of the ground infront of him. He jumped back in shock, interrupting the woman’s treating of his wound. Her insulting words flew by his head as he took it’s figure in. “Um..does anyone else see the-flying blue ghost?”

She was a marvel. Bits of metal within her insides, and bright big blue eyes. Another stranger farther back addressed her, which made him ease up at the confirmation that he wasn’t the only person who could see her, and relax back in a manner that the other woman could continue her mending

“Your ‘wonderful’ personality is truly something to behold my dear B, but perhaps save your typical performance for later? That poor kid hasn’t been awake for more than 10 minutes.”

“B..?” He repeated. He couldn’t give her anymore of a response than that, still shocked at her presence and observing her body up and down.

The man in the back was a person unto hismelf. A Man who also had white hair, and was dressed in a rather extravagant white and red cape(maybe him and the woman were related-or part of the same tribe?) When he leaned to the side past B’s form to try and see this mystery man, his head cried out in pain again. He set his hand on his pounding temple, as the world around him rived once again. Something about him was familiar..it irritated him-had he met him before?

Saran didn’t know and quite frankly Saran didn’t care. It was all too confusing. He turned his head away from the crowd and leaned further back into his sisters arms, not saying a word more.

From ahead of him he could hear the mystery man say “Good to see you open your eyes, kid. Your sister was worried sick.”. Which sent another wave of agony through his skull.

He groaned a response..and at that the woman had finished up patching his chest.

“Well, that’ll do. I would recommend you get some rest, Saran. We have a long journey ahead of us.”

“Ok..Thank you.” And with that she, and a large majority of the other people dwindling about the camp left.

Slowly saran re-adjusted himself in his sisters arms and took in her familiar face again, soothing every pain he was in. While his body may be hot and his head scrambled, seeing her in the midst of this stress still gave him comfort, and he was forever grateful for it.

“Thank you too..for being here. I’m so sorry all of this happened. I wish it never had.”

Saran began to tear up at it all again, but he quieted himself down before he got too carried away.

“I guess..we’re going to be staying like this for awhile huh.. How did you end up here anyway?”

While Adagio had appeared at most surprised at B-206’s mention of what she was his draw seemed to drop as he stared silently at her at the mention of the Zonai Islands. It took him a few seconds for him to form a proper sentence as he stuttered before her.

“Y-You mean you’ve been them?!”

He had a million questions he wanted to ask but he understood when she said she didn’t remember much more. All he could do was puzzle things out in his head his thoughts clearly visible on his face. He was hoping to gather resources from any places she could come up with but after thousands of years there wasn’t a single member of his tribe that knew of the way back to the islands of the Zonai. Many hardly knew they were islands at all only that they descended from the heavens. It would be a monumental feat to achieve returning to the sky like that.

“I know it’s a big ask, but if you end up remembering anything more about them I’d love to hear it. I’d love to go there with you some day.”

That was the most he could ask for. Anything else seemed unreasonable what with her memory loss.

B-206 really didn't fully absorb the full impact of the words she had said. She still was rather confused and was starting to think Adagio really didn't buy what she had said was a lie. B-206 didn't really know what the masked boy might know about the Zonai as she just remembered the island and not the people. What had they even looked like? B-206 felt the idea that they were just normal was wrong but she couldn't really put her finger on why. Thought why should she care? It didn't really matter the islands were gone looking up to the sky no one would see any , maybe they had enough sense to leave this land for the cursed place it was. B-206 did feel the way to them had been obvious it had been something that took one up, but she couldn't remember what creature it was. She wasn't even sure it had been a creature. Wait how had she even gotten there , she didn't even think she had flown up? B-206 wanted to laugh as the masked boy to tell him it was a lie and try to play it down, to do what she had done before and yet he seemed to just believe everything except that she was telling lies.

B-206 shrugged and let out a sigh despite not breathing " I guess, just don't tell anyone what i said today" She said her tone a bit defeated instead of angry that she had slipped up and revealed so much. " So what are you even making, i am a sword now so i can't really use anything?" She asked trying to switch topics again.

KEENAN

Atara visibly squirmed at the mention of murder, a flash of thinly veiled fear (disgust?) present in her eyes appearing and disappearing as quickly as it had come. Though it had occurred in less than a millisecond, Keenan suddenly felt a tad like a fish out of water. He kept forgetting that outside of his clan murder wasn’t exactly the norm, further ostracizing how disconnected it was from the rest of Hyrule. That was only to be expected however considering a majority of the clan worshiped a violent deity he supposed.

As it was Atara thankfully kept herself composed, voice soft as she said, “I don’t think that will be necessary. I’m sure there’s a solution.”

Though the words were sensible, a sardonic smile formed on his lips. Hoping for anything, let a lone a miracle was a rather foreign emotion to him since his own ritual. He had already mostly accepted that his fate was unavoidable, that searching for answers would in the end yield nothing, yet seeing Saran dealing with the same thing shook that belief. He didn’t know that boy from Adam but seeing another innocent child traumatized and bearing the weight of a terrible burden was a blast from the past that made his blood boil. Even if it was too late for him, the ex-Yiga felt in his bones that giving up entirely wasn’t an option as far as far as the kid was concerned.

Then again, perhaps Keenan was finally beginning to lose his mind from lack of sleep. It wasn’t like him to be soft for someone he had just met, especially if they gave him headaches.

“Hope you’re right little Sheikah. That boy is too young for his life to be cut short so soon.” Keenan replied. Surprisingly, Atara accepted his offer for tea with little fuss. Resisting the urge to raise an eyebrow, the ex Yiga quickly filled her a cup.

Whether it was because she was having second thoughts or something else, seeing the girl’s face scrunch up made him chuckle. “Careful now. Keep that up and you’ll get wrinkles.”

Adagio seemed to want to say more as B-206 told him to keep it secret but instead merely kept quiet on the matter. He has so much he wanted to say about the matter but it was a small clue anyhow, it’d be fine if he simply stewed on it anyhow. Instead he thought of how to address B’s question.

It was difficult to describe the process he had in mind but he had faith in his magic and its power to interact with more than the physical form. Though if her origins and feelings truly were tied to the original Zonai it’d be a much more difficult endeavor than he’d thought.

“My specialty is in making masks, though that is not all I’m capable of. And in your case it’s not the shape of the object that’s of importance but rather the nature of the magic I wield. I don’t believe I currently have the ability to return whatever form you may have had prior, but I may be able to at least let return your senses to you in a manner. Granted without the proper resources my capabilities are limited.”

There was only one place he currently knew of that he’d be able to obtain anything related to the original Zonai and he was not keen on returning home so soon. Not to mention they had other matters at hand. Regardless he steeled himself to at least searching for ways to return skywards as they continued onwards.

As Keenan smiled, presumably towards her words, Atara frowned. She hadn’t said it to be amusing. Her glower only worsened at his words, “I’m not little,” she stated. “I’m likely only a couple years younger than you, if that, and can’t you call me by my name?” Even as the tea was carefully poured into a cup for her, her mood only seemed to sour more.

“I won’t let anything like that happen to him, he’s a child.”

She must have not taken into account that Keenan was once a Yiga. That while he seemed to have different morals, different views, he was still raised there. She, nor anyone else, could change that about him.

His chortle caught her attention, switching her focus, eyes widening ever so slightly at the noise. She could count on one hand how often she’d heard him laugh. It was cute, she thought. Ruined, however, by the words that escaped his lips. “Wrinkles are the least of my concerns, I’m sure.”

Taking a sip of the tea that was now held gently in her hand, she perked up. It was enjoyable, something that was bitter, with just a hint of sweetness. While that sounded unpleasant, it didn’t bother her. She was far too used to tea sessions with Impa, a woman who didn’t add sugar to her tea in the most distasteful situations.

Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she blew on the tea gingerly, watching as the steam dissipated into the air. “The Springs, I wonder if they’d help.” Power, Courage, Wisdom, the Springs seemed the closest to the Goddesses from here. “Although, I’m sure you wouldn’t believe in such things.”

A finger came up to wipe at tears Nessa hadn’t noticed were falling. A breath leaving her lips as relief flooded her system, noting he had been able to calm down. If he felt better, more sure of everything, she was certain she could relax. He didn’t seem to understand something about Atara, her looks, she assumed. The emerald of the Sheikah’s eyes did very little to help hide the secret she wanted to conceal.

“What the heck is a frog?”

“A small wet critter that likes to hop,”
she repeated B’s words, before adding, “but Uriah says they’re one of the cutest critters ever and that you can find them by the water.” She shrugged, thinking of her previous conversation. She would have to see them herself to describe them better, she was certain.

When Atara spoke up again, implying some sort of comfort might be appreciated in regards to Saran’s application. Nessa simply nodded and took her brother's hand. It seemed best to distract him, pain flickering across his features, but when she was able to find words B distracted the three of them.

“She’s not a ghost,” came Nessa’s quiet voice, “well, I suppose she sort of is, but she’s really just the being inside of Uriah's sword.” They hadn’t actually confirmed the sword belonged to Uriah, but she had guessed such from prior conversations. There was enough adoration from B towards Uriah to give her finality on the situation.

Lots of voices spoke up in regards to B’s performance; Adagio, Keenan, who she needed to thank, and Saran in response to hearing the entity's name. Just as quickly as B appeared, she went away. Nessa knew it was for the best, Saran had just woken and the newness of it all was still fresh. She was certain it was too much on him.

All the voices, the noises, she had taken notice that it seemed to irritate Saran. Her worry increased as he seemed to sink more into the pain. Holding her hands out, she moved to rub his temples in concern, hoping the sensation might ease his headache. It seemed the general pain came from being overwhelmed, though she was certain it was much deeper than that.

When the others left, he seemed to settle back in a little. With that, she ceased her massaging and patted his hair softly. “Why are you thanking me? It’s sort of my job, you know? I’m forever here for you.. and don’t apologize,” she chided, “wasn’t I the one who suggested everything?” She was, there was no doubt about it. The only suggestion Saran had made was fireworks, fireworks, a harmless idea.

At his question, she nodded, a faint smile pulling at her lips, “yeah, I guess we are.. but it’s not horrible, some of the people here are really great. I mean, as far as I can tell.” She wasn’t sure if she was the best judge of character, especially after such little time. “How’d I get here? Hmm.. well, I woke up in a field not too far from here. From there, some of the group you’ve met found me. Atara and Adagio brought me back here and, I suppose, B did too.” She wasn’t certain if the girl in the sword would have brought her back here with her own free will, however.

“How about you? How did you escape?” She worried the topic would bring him further pain, nevertheless, she wanted to know. Did someone save him? Did he manage to free himself?

Having more senses than just sight and hearing made B-206 rather conflicted as while she wanted them back. She did fear what getting them would do. B-206 had one goal she was putting aside for the good of Uriah right now and to have more commotion to the world made her fear losing that goal. While having senses might sound good right now what about when everyone was gone? This band of random people couldn't stay together forever and they would one day die. B-206 wouldn't she had lasted 10 thousand years already so a few more decades was nothing. She also feared that yhe pain of the forge would return. That was something she would do anything to avoid. Still the chance to feel something anything again was a temptation that even fear paled in comparison to. She also didn't know how the others would work, would ger senses be bound to her body as it was or to her spirit?

" Well take your time " B-206 said " I'm not really looking to feel more but feel nothing these days " she said hoping the meaning of her words would get through " But that's only after all this is over "

Adagio couldn’t help but sigh in defeat at her response. This girl just couldn’t help but be edgy could she? Must come with the territory of being a sword.

“Ah yes, there are more pressing matters at hand aren’t there?”

It indeed might be better to prioritize handling the calamity over other matters. Regardless who the order came from it was a pressing matter. Even if he wasn’t entirely sure what to do about it. The information he lacked did him no favors but hopefully their destination would help with that part. He’d only been to minor pockets of civilization thus far but they were now headed for a proper city.

“Well I’ll make it priority number two then, I appreciate your patience.”

Keenan
Atara’s frown only deepened at his words, her eyes giving him a glare like no other. Though she was obviously trying to remain calm Keenan knew the Shekiah’s pride had been wounded as her voice took on a sharp edge in response. He’d definitely hit a sore spot, one that made the less than pleasant Yiga side of him smirk in triumph. The girl was almost cute when she was flustered. Naïve but still cute.

“I could, but where’s the fun in that? After all, It’s not every day two former enemies have a civil conversation, no?” Now that most of the tea set was put away Keenan leaned back against the tree opposite of the girl. “However I do see your point, ‘little’ is a bit demeaning. How about…” He rubbed his chin. “Twinkletoes? Now that sounds much better don’t you think?” His lips twitched at the thought.

At the mention of Saran again however, the ex Yiga’s face turned impassive. He shook his head, sighing, “If only the rest of the world had such conviction. We’re going against a wielder of the triforce, we should all be prepared for the unpredictable…even when it comes to innocents. Nonetheless, I’ll do my best too in keeping the boy from further harm.”

He watched Atara sip the drink with ease, the concoction obviously something she was familiar with as her body relaxed slightly. He was surprised at how quickly she had accepted his tea. She should’ve tossed the cup aside. She really was too trusting for her own good. Even so Keenan had to admit seeing such a sight made him a little happy.

Atara was quick to brush the wrinkle comment aside, gazing up at the steam leaving her cup as she mused over their next move in regards to the Gerudo. Of course she’d mention the Goddesses. He had forgotten how religious the Sheikah were, always seeking divine providence from their creators who had remained silent for eons. It was almost laughable at how devoted they were, not that the Yiga were much better.

Keenan held back a snort, getting back up to toss dirt on the remaining embers. “You are correct. I’ve never been particularly religious. I’ve never once felt like praying to the divine.” His years of existence had taught him that it was best not to hope for miracles, it would only lead to disappointment. Jumping back to his feet, he popped his knuckles before turning his gaze to Atara. “But as they say, there’s different strokes for different folks. If it comes down to it, we may have to try everything to help the boy avoid his birthright, even if it comes down to throwing him in a spring.” He paused to stretch, then added, “Anyway, it’s probably best we get back to camp. Don’t want to worry the others do we, Twinkletoes?”
