pick a planet
Mars, Venus, or mercury. There are five generals for the Terran empire. Earth and the asteroid belt are off limits because I have plans for them. The Terran military doesn't have branches like the modern military. They are one large unit with a wide range of specialists
Damn man, you should have told me about this earlier. Eh, it's no big deal so I'll adjust quickly.
sorry bro the answers come as the questions do, I live your post btw you really captured the Terran empire moral values well.
Thanks, I really worked my ass off for that post. It takes me hours to come up with a good one, and I was afraid that I wasn't good enough.
Anyway, Captain George and his buddies think the Empire is corrupt and flawed just like every other government. The thing is that they accept the Empire for what it is instead of trying to change it. If the empire does need change, it needs to change its leadership. George has seen what the Empire can do under a good leader, they can be a powerful force that unites the scattered tribes of humanity. But since their current leader is a weak and corrupt scumbag, the Empire is starting to decline. Hopefully, by changing the leaders and not the government itself, the Empire can be a force that will bring law and order to the galaxy.
They are not trying to be the good guys, they're just trying to make sure you follow the law. Not everyone understands that. People believe the Empire is evil incarnate when all it is trying to do is bring order to all peoples.
But why, you might ask, why are there so many riots ruthlessly suppressed by the Empire? Why is freedom of speech limited if not totally banned? Why does the Empire make the world so angry? Why does it manage to inspire hatred instead of inspiring a sense of understanding? Where is the unity now? Where is the law and order it says it will bring?
People are flawed, even the people within the Empire. If there are angry young men in the Plutonian Coalition that want to bring the Empire down there are also angry young men in the Terran Empire that want to bring order to the galaxy by any means necessary. The anger inside them makes them immune to reason. They do not want people to understand. They want people to follow their dreams, they want people to do what's right, at least in their perspective. But in doing so they destroy people's lives and their livelihoods. Instead of inspiring people to do what they think is right, they spread their own hatred and anger to the people.
If you can get past their anger and hatred in their hearts. If you make them understand that you are fighting a battle inside their own souls just like them, then they will understand you. Then hopefully we can find a true sense of understanding and a true sense of unity. Then there will be no more hatred between peoples, no more anger, there will be peace... there will be order... and maybe people can love each other again and love the universe.
So instead of just keeping the peace in the universe, the Empire can get something much more than what they asked for. They can achieve universal love.
This is what I see in the Empire. Don't think they're the bad guys. They're people just like you and me. The biggest mistake you can ever make is to judge people without even knowing who they are.
Eyyy not all the leadership is bad. Look at Lucius, hes one of the 5 Generals and he is probably the most reasonable and understanding guy there. He sees the corruption in the hearts of the colleagues and is trying to change it. Worst comes to worse he will lead a rebellion with his armies and his fleet.
Tha Martian Fleet doesnt need to intercept. The planetary defense systems would destroy his ship if thenorder was given. Lucius has command over 200,000,000 troops and the Martian fleet. Hes not gonna have rebel ships and weapons he will have Terran weapons seeming how he will desert with his armies. Lucius is pretty much destined to be the leader of the rebellion and the main force to contest the Empire
Hmm, I know humanity has a hundred billion people in the solar system, but a single general controlling two hundred million troops at once seems a bit ludicrous.
There should be a chain of command. Maybe a system of 1-star generals to 10-star generals because the number of troops available are just so FUCKING large.
Chain of Command
It would make more sense if we create a rank called the High General of (Insert Planet Here) which would be the equivalent of a 10-star general rank.
The rest of the lower generals are called 9-star generals, 8-star generals, 7-star generals and so on until we reach 1-star generals.
If there are 200,000,000 million troops... command responsibility for these should at least be divided by five 9-star generals who will act as the 10-star general's staff.
So each of these 9-star generals will control 40,000,000 troops. 8-star generals control a fifth of that, 8,000,000 troops. 7-stars control 1,600,000. 6-stars control 320,000 troops.
5-star generals control around 150,000 troops. 4-star generals control 80,000 troops. 3-star generals control 40,000 troops. 2-star generals control 15,000 troops.
1-star generals control 4,000 troops.
God, so many generals controlling the army at this point. There must be thousands of generals commanding the army with the 10-star general on the top.
How to become a general 101
There are four known ways to become a general:
1. You buy your generalship. This way you can supply your own troops with your vast quantities of money available. You can be your own private warlord this way, getting trained soldiers from the empire while pursuing your own interests at your own price.
2. Politics. If you are a Count or Duke or a high-ranking official within your community, you automatically become a general. It does not matter if you are a democratically-elected official like a president or a mayor or whatever. If your city has a population of 300,000 people then you become a 6-star general because the Empire expects everyone to be able to join the military and protect the interests of the Empire.
This is part of the reason why the quality of soldiers can range from downright terrible to insanely superhuman. Sometimes, they are just sending out waves of poorly trained civilians to attack the enemy while at other times they are sending in genetically-modified super soldiers to tear you guys a new asshole.
3. Political favors. Several generals elect you to this position because they owe you something.
4. You're just that damn good. You're appointed to this generalship by most of the generals in this system or by the Emperor himself.
I didnt choose the number of troops. @Jefferson did, There are also only 5 generals in all of the Empire. Each one tasked with defending a area of the territory controlled by the Terrans. Thats not what I decided thats what Jefferson told me. Theres of course other officers but they all directly report to Lucius and the other 5 generals depending on what sector the soldiers are stationed in. For mars they are tasked with the defense of the planet and the safety of its people.
well the plutonians are the main force contesting the empire, but @ThatOneLunatic is right he is the general/governor of mars, he is outfitted with the same technology as the empire, and since he runs mars his disbanding would remove the Terran empires secondary defense against the plutonian coalition. Seeing as how mars is second in power only to the planet earth itself many in the asteroid belt would follow suit, which would turn it into a three way civil war. Granted the terrans could likely handle the Martian uprising it wouldn't be easy, and with them diverting the resources from deep space it would allow the plutonians a reprieve and weaken the empire simultaneously. Either way bad news for the emperor.
All the ships you mentioned are in use with the exception of mining ships, your creeping into plutonian territory there. The carried ships also don't often use driods as emp and hacking have become very prominent since the binarian uprising. Instead they use fighter pilots augmented for better performance. Thats the real clinchpin of the Terran military, they augment their soldiers to fit the role needed, making the Terran empires technology, troops, and overall military might vastly superior to the plutonians, the only reason they havent utterly destroyed the plutonian coalition is because killing 41 billion people doesn't sit well with anyone and that course of action would guarantee a revolt bigger than what is already being done, also they can't exactly start hurling antimatter shots at their gas giant fuel stations that they hope to recapture. All in all the plutonians are only able to fight because the Terran empire isnt trying to crush them they are trying to get them back, if that changes the war ends in a year tops.
good points both of you.
Generals don't actually command all 200,000,000 of their soldiers. (each general has the same number the Terran army consists of a billion soldiers.) most are born to it similar to the caste system but its not as heavily enforced as it used to be, more of a suggestion.
the officers are each in command of a specific unit, then comes the commanders who lead large ships with a crew of anywhere from 1200-10,000.
the chain of command is pretty simple actually each soldier answers to his direct superior, all the way up to the emperor (who I will be posting soon.)
the "bureaucrats" you mentioned are actually supercomputers whose sole purpose is to organize the orders and get them to each officer.
The ranking system is similar to the current military but they have only five generals, one for mercury, one for Venus, one for earth, one for mars, and one for the asteroid belt (kinda the least desirable of the five.) after that its admirals who command a fleet each, ship commanders, then officers, then common soldiers.
As for missiles ohhh boy are you gonna like this. Most missiles are sheilded, the larger ones have Freakin warp drives, so you can warp a nuke to your opponents vessel if you can get a lock. Missiles are some of humanities best weapons still. But the most powerful weapon we have is the Zeus cannon in orbit around earth, its basically a railgun that shoots planet busting antimatter shells at incredible distances.
also the Terran empire totes has the best ships in the galaxy (with the exception of the 700 mile long Tyranex that Igneel has visions about.)
So...is it combined arms? It's more like specialists, I think. There are people running about in ships but they are still individual characters
